Log and transfer causes FCP to crash with long clips

Hi. I am trying to import a few 2 hour+ clips using Log and Transfer from my Sony NX5. Once the destination clip has reached approx 60GB, FCP crashes every time. There is plenty of disk space left.
I have tried trashing preferences and also changing scratch disks. I am turned off time machine. I am really worried that I wont be able to get this footage onto my machine.

In the end Clipwrap saved the day on this project.
This did happen to me again though on yet another project, where the files were around an hour long this time. In the end I got it to work, not sure the solution but tried the following:
- Selected a different easy setup (choose PAL) - this fixed the problem for a colleague of mine, even though it doesn't seem logical
- Used my internal drive as a scratch disk instead of my firewire drive (normally this is not a problem)
I haven't tried this with the really long clips, as Clipwrap saved me.

Final Cut Log and Transfer Red Exclamation Mark Error on Longer Clips

Hi Guys, I am getting the dreaded red exclamation error while importing from my Canon HF S100 into FCP 6.0.1 via Log and Transfer. I've had no problems with clips under 5 minutes they transfer over fine but clips longer than that will not transfer. Anyone else had this problem, any possible solutions?

My scratch disk is an external WD drive. I never did format it.
Is there a way for me to break the clip into 3 or 4 parts and then import it to FCP directly without log and transfer?

Log and Transfer Causes FCP to Freeze!

Quite an annoying problem.
Running FCP 6.0.6
I go to log & transfer new footage. I can select a folder. I can even see the footage and play it back in the preview window, but when I press "Add Selection to Queue" or "Add Clip to Queue" (both do this), I get the spinning beach ball and it just spins and spins (I've let it run for 45 minutes). The application stops responding, and I have to force quit it. And this happens regardless of where the source footage comes from (internal drive/external drive), what the footage is (DVCPRO/XDCAM/RED), or how long the clip is. It is very frustating. Any help?! I've un-installled and re-installed FCP Studio 2 three times now! I've remembered to update my apps every time. One time I tried to log&transfer before updating the applications. FCP added the clip to the queue, but it would just give me the red "!" and wouldn't actually do it. Any help!?

Whole clips not tranfering from log and transfer into FCP studio 2

720p 24p clips from P2 get cut short when transfered from log and transfer. I can play the whole clips in the log and transfer window to verify they are there but once they are brought into my project they play about half way through, then the sound drops out and the clip stops short of where it really ended. the clips in the canvas window or on the timeline when played all the way to the end are not the complete original clip? i have tried switching every setting i can think of but to no avail. any ideas out there? thanks a million

no, no in or out points set in log and capture. what's wierd is that clips shot at 24 fps are the ones running short and clips shot at 60 fps come in fine (the slow motion isn't happening but i think i can change that with cinema tools?) anyway, thanks for the suggestion

Refresher for log and transfer in FCP 7

I need a bit of a refresher to using log and transfer in FCP 7 what setting do I use for XDCAM ? Do I set it to AVCHD?

Have you loaded the xdcam plug in?

Otherwise, I think you have the choice of keeping it as xdcam or converting to prores when you log and transfer. xdcam are smaller file sizes, while prores is generally less taking on the system.

Device not working with Log and Transfer in FCP

I am trying to get some footage off my camera into final cut pro, but Final Cut Pro does not recognise my device when I try to use Log & Transfer

I did a little Google searching for information on your camera and it appears that it is a Standard Definition Camera that records in the MPEG-2 format.
Log and Transfer only works with High Definition material.
You will need to convert your video clips into a format that will work with FCP.
I know nothing about working in PAL, but you want to download an free application called MPEG Streamclip from

This application will convert your MPEG-2 files into a format that you can use directly in FCP.
Once you have converted the files to Apple DV-PAL, with the correct frame rate (25fps?) and field dominance you can either simply drag the converted files into FCP or import them using File > Import.

P2 files don't display in Log and Transfer VIEWER FCP 6.0

Hey,
I'm trying to log a bunch of P2 clips in the P2 viewer and, while I can see a thumbnail of the clip in the left side of the screen, it won't show up in the viewer. If I hit play it appears to be progressing in the viewer, but no picture or audio shows. However it imports fine and the picture and audio is now there, but that doesn't help me actually log.
I'm running 6.0.0 on X.4.10 with QuickTime 7.2.
Ideas?

Yes. The P2 volumes have been copied to hard drives. I'm not anywhere near the P2 cards at this point.

Sony CX-160 camcorder compatible in Log and Transfer in FCP X?

Looking at Apple FCP X compatibility list and it is not on there. I know this list is not anywhere accurate. Camera is AVCHD .mts file format.
Anyone have this camcorder to confirm this first hand either way?

Log and Transfer Process Failed for AVCHD with SD card

I shoot on SD Cards using AVCHD technology.
It creates a file called “Private”.
When I want to ingest the footage into Final Cut, I must choose log and transfer and then drop the clip into the window.
I can see and watch the clip before I start the process but if fails when I try and complete the log and transfer process.
Any ideas / trouble shooting help to get this to work???

Fails how? What exactly happens? What do you see on your computer?
Exactly what format did you shoot? What settings are you using in FCP? What OS? What version of the software? What version of QuickTime? What computer? What drives? How's everything connected? What's the scratch disk? How's it formatted? That'll be a good start.

Log and Transfer: The right half page with preview monitor disappears

The left half space and the right half space.
Normally :
On the left half space we have, from left to right
Name / Volume / Media Start / Media Duration
On the right half space we have, from up to down, we have :
- The preview monitor
- Logging Import Settings

Reel
Clip name
Scene
Shot/Take
Angle
Log note
My problem is : When I tried to make wider one colum of the left half space, the right half space included the preview monitor vanishes

How to speed up Log and Transfer in FCP 7.0 of Canon 7D footage on my Macbook

Hey there,
I'm using Final Cut Pro 7.0 and the Log and Transfer of my Canon 7D footage is taking forever.
I have both the Canon XF MPEG2 plugin and the Canon EOS Movie plugin.
Any suggestions?

Are you transferring the files directly from the camera, via a USB cable?
Try taking the card out of the camera and using a good quality card reader, or better yet, try copying the camera storage card to a hard disk (preserving the complete card file structure) and then Log and Transfer from that copy on hard disk.
See if that speeds up the L&T ingest.

Crashes with longer clips

Hi all
I'm using ST Pro 1.0.3 and I'm having problems with the longer clips that are one shots. Specically in the Cinematic genre.
The long ones don't preview and if I try to open in editor or insert into a track the program crashes. The medium and short clips work fine. It seems to be anything over 20 or 30 secs.
They open and play fine in Apple Loops Utility.
Any help would be appreciated.

For wierd stuff like this, I usually start by deleting preference files. Here's a list of the Soundtrack files I've found. I've posted them a few times for other people's issues, and it's seemed to help.
Rename the original files or make a copy of them somewhere first, just in case!

<User Folder>/Library/Application Support/Soundtrack Pro/Layouts/Default.moduleLayout
<User Folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundtrackpro.plst

Crashes with long clip

I believe this question has been asked already but I'll post again with a bit more specifics and subjectivity.
When I open a long (over 30 minute) video clip into Soundtrack Pro (Ver. 1.0.3) to fix audio problems I find the program crashes.
I know it couldn't hurt, but would adding more RAM help, or will it crash regardless. I have 1 GB DDR SDRAM already installed.

Aaron the more memory you've got the faster you can open files, larger files also. I went from what you've got to 2.5gb and it improved the speed by at least 1/4.
Check out Kingstonmemory at Ecost.com 2gb 3200 SDRAM=$215.00 if you want the best; apple's grossly overpriced and it's not the best.

Canon EOS 60D and Log and Transfer in FCP

I just got my Canon 60D and tried to transfer video from it to FCP but the Canon FCP EOS Plugin did not see the files. I had the SD card in a card reader and even tried the hack for the Rebel, but none worked.
Then I came across a forum that mentioned the Canon EOS Plugin on the Canon European website saying it worked for them. I down loaded it and it did work.

The Share option in Final Cut Pro X does not offer the possibility to transfer clip to a DVCam drive. Can some one tells how to proceed ?.
