Log and Transfer - Corrupt Files! please help.

I received a P2 card, however only half of it will transfer. I am able to preview the other files on the card, however when i drag them to the transfer queue they wont transfer and i get an error with the red stop symbol.
I think that the camera operator might have changed the recording setup in the camera from HD 720pn to HD 720p25 or HD 720p50 during shooting. Is there a way to save and transfer this media, and if so how?

Log and transfer MTS file and audio slip issues

I'm having 3 issues with a 30 minute project in FCE HD.
1. When I create clips in log and transfer, sometimes my footage chatters when I watch in in the viewer or place it on the timeline. It didn't chatter in camera, I checked, and it doesn't chatter in log and transfer. I can re-cut the clip in log and transfer but I'm trying to save time!
2. When creating a clip in log and transfer or just transferring a full clip, FCE trims the last 3 to 4 seconds off. I need these 3 to 4 seconds!
3. When trimming and razoring a 9 minute+ clip on the timeline, the audio begins to slip and continues to slip the longer I trim.
If anyone has answers to my three issues, please help. This project is frustrating in content and now it's frustrating in editing!

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help me.
Your first question, these clips came from my Panasonic HMC 150 camera. I filmed at 24 fps. I downloaded the files from my SD card to my laptop, then use log and transfer to bring the clips into the project.
FCE only offers 25 fps or 29.97 fps. So, there is a discrepancy there. I'm not sure how to fix that when I want to stay with 24 fps. Yes, I can film at other frame rates, I just prefer 24 for what I generally create. Is there a plugin for more frame rate choices in FCE? Or is that just available in FCP?
Your second question, I always use insert. I only use overwrite for my title cards.
And finally, your third, I am aware of the destination tabs. I understand how they work. My issue with having so many tracks is that I am working on a laptop without a mouse and sometimes when I move a clip the timeline jumps and creates the extra tracks when I place the clip. I just need to be more careful when moving clips.
Now, as to my final issue and that is the trimming of the clips through log and transfer. FCE trims off the first and last couple of seconds and will not allow me to bring them into the project. Is this a setting problem or just inherent of FCE?

For clipboard copy, I start with File > New and the size will be set to what's in the clipboard. Then once the new file is opened, Edit > Paste will place the clipboard contents as a layer in the new document.
You must remember to use the command Layer > Flatten Image of you want to save as jpeg or any other file format that doesn't support layers.
For processing multiple files,
File > Automate > Batch or
File > Scripts > Image Processor...
Check the User guide or google information for those commands if you have specific needs.

AVCHD Log and Transfer Woes. Please advise.

Folks, I am using the latest version of FInal Cut (7.02) to log and transfer AVCHD content from a Panasonic Lumix GH1. Many clips get imported but many stop with errors ( a stream error as note by a exclamation mark in a red alert icon in the status column) even though they play back in the log and transfer window, VLC, Toast 10.
I've had to resort to using Toast 10 to transcode which is disheartening that it can and FCP can't. Plus it's slow. Another strange thing is that in FCP the number of clips that are successfully transcoded outnumber the number of clips for the same reel in Log and Transfer.
Per some other message board to troubleshoot, I've updated my FxFactory plugin app, uninstalled Perian, deactivated the pulldown feature in Log and Transfer, and changed the AVCHD audio settings to plain stereo. None of these efforts has changed the stream errors I am getting.
I could use some advice on this.

L&T and Lumix GH1 footage needs the file structure in the 'PRIVATE' folder intact.
So don't delete a single thing in there from the computer - if you want to remove clips you must do it from the camera. And when doing back-ups to a harddrive, copy the entire PRIVATE folder and again, don't change anything in there once it's on the harddrive. Then L&T can still access the clips, you don't have to do it from the SDHC card.
And don't include photo captures.

Log and transfer progressive files

Hi,
When I try to log and transfer clips shot in progressive HD (AVCD) there is no image in the log and transfer screen - it is all green, although I can hear the sound of the clip, when I play it.
It also gets transferred, but as I can't see the clip before transferring it, I can't make in and out points.
Very frustrating!

I believe the HMC151 is an AVCCAM and the PH mode you are shooting is not directly compatible with FCE. My understanding is that currently only FCPro can capture progressive from these cameras. There may be a workaround for FCE and perhaps Tom Wolsky will see your post here and can contribute an answer.
In the meantime, try shooting some 1080i50 in HA or HG mode and see if you can import that successfully using the AVCHD 1080i50 Easy Setup.

ITunes.exe - Corrupt File Please help!!!

Every time I plug my ipod into my computer iTunes will open, and in my task bar it will read iTunes.exe - Corrupt File. The File or Directory\iPod_control is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility. Every time I go to click on this it disapears, and it is impossible to restore because iTunes doesnt show it as being plugged in. What can I do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can't log & transfer mxf files from a c300 camera in FCP 7 even though I installed the xf plugin.
When I looked at canon's website this link comes up but it doesn't work.

Hello jameskendi,
The most obvious reason we can tell as to why this may not work properly is the version of FCP you are using. You mention using FCP 7, although the plugin is specifically for FCP X. This is why you're having such difficulty. If possible, we'd recommend using an updated computer and or software to process these files.

Fireworks 2004 Corrupt file please help

I've spent allot of hours on a particular png document. when
I came to open the file in Fireworks the next day, I go the dreaded
"Could not open the file Unknown file type" message. Huh! Please
help! really not wanting to re-create this file from scratch!.
I have also tried opening the file in other programs that can
open pngs (photoshop, illustrator, freehand etc ) with no avail.

Try deleting the Fireworks Preferences.txt. That will restore
all
program defaults the next time you load FW. If that doesn't
do it, check
for missing or corrupted fonts.

Log and transfer tragedy. PLEASE ADVISE!

Two days ago I started importing HD footage into my FC2 so I am new to the knowledge.
Today I imported around 160 clips from cam 1, I have 2 more cams to import.
By the time I hit 160 clip imports FC2 started crashing on my next thumbnail selected.
Each import from this cam is around 15 megs and some are around 1 to 2 gigs.
Does each sequence have a top out file size? Currently I hope to place cam 1 on one sequence
and so on but I can not do my job under these circumstances. I have a Macpro 2.66 GHZ Dual Quad
with Xeon processors with 10.5.6 OS. FC@ is 6.0.5 all updates are current. I have submitted these failures to Apple if it helps in I.T. Is their a max import size by the project or by the sequence?
Are their known issues to this problem? Please Help, I have a show to put together which is ironically titled Tales From The Harddrive LOL http://www.talesfromtheharddrive.com. Should I tell this Tale?

I think I figured it out thanks to other forums on this site. I think it has to do with USB vs FIREWIRE. A column on this site says USB delivers data in bursts where as FIREWIRE is continuous. By slowing down my desktop activities the problem sees to be manageable. KEEP A STEADY PACE when accessing SR11's content. Maybe SONY will go firewire?

Corrupt files please help

whenever i connect my ipod to update the music i recieve a message saying that my ipod has corrupt files and that i need to restore my ipod. i have restored many times but still does not work. can someone help me fix this

I would suggest Restoring the iPod in iTunes, even if you have already done so, try again.
Next, go into My Computer, right-click the iPod and click Properties.
Is it possible that something like a Read Only box got checked? Or something like that?
I am sorry, but that's kinda all the help I can be, as I have never seen that problem before (although I am sure it is not just you). However, if you post back, I might be able to explain more, or maybe there is something you will notice that I do not know right now that will help.

Downloading music to itunes problem/corrupt files please help!

I'm having problems with my music as most of the files I download from cd's onto itunes & ipod are corrupt. Through most songs a horrible screeching sound will occur on many occasions.
Not sure if this is my laptop or itunes causing this problem.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Log and Transfer .VOB Files and NO audio??

I am trying to edit some footage that I did not shoot... The client gave me .vob files. I am able to look at them in FC, but there is no audio attached. The files do play with audio on Windows Media Player. There are also extensions for .iub and .bup on the flash stick... However I cannot detect a specific audio file.
Also there is a timecode over all the video...
My questions are:
1. How can I link the video and audio? I can't even find an audio file...
2. How do I remove the timecode
3. Would it just be easier to attain the raw footage?

You'd have to blow up the image...make it larger...until you didn't see the TC. And that will REALLY degrade your image. I mean, going beyond 20% is bad. And this is already a highly compressed format that you are going to convert to another highly compressed format. Won't be pretty.
They contracted a company...paid them...and didn't get the masters? or they got TC dubs and didn't pay?

Final Cut Express Log and Transfer files not playing audio on another mac

I recently purchased a new Mac Pro for video editing for work, and am having some issues with it. Previously i was working on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.4.11, on Final Cut Express 4.
I used Log & Transfer to get the AVCHD videos from my Canon HF 11 onto my mac, and had no issues. Where my problems started was when I moved my video files to my new Mac Pro running OS 10.5.6. Now when I open those video files in either Quicktime or FCE, the VIDEO plays but _not the audio_. I thought maybe the video files were bad, but when I tried the original files on the new Mac, they still didn't work. I don't know if there's some codec that isn't on the new mac or if there's some other problem... I just know that my new amazing machine cannot play the files that my 3 year old one can. I'm not new to computers, but I'm not an Apple guru. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I can try trashing the files, but I can't log and transfer the files again, as it's months of footage that aren't on the camera anymore. But i did find something else out. The files that were recorded with the camera's built-in mic recording is fine and with sound, but the files that I used my wireless mic setup had no sound. I don't know why that is, because they worked fine on the MacBook Pro. I tried log and transferring a new clip on the Mac Pro wit;h footage using the wireless mic, and still no sound.

Unknown Error when I Logging and Transfer P2 Card files in FCP 6.0.6

I have been trying for the past two week to Log and Transfer P2 files to my external hardrive using FCP 6.0.6 unsuccessfully.
Originally I tried to Log and Transfer directly from the Panasonic HPX-170 in between my shooting. The first time it was a success but from then on I always get the same Unknown Error when attempting to transfer. When I encountered the Unknown Error during the second transfer I went on to create folders with the P2 contents on my external Hard Drive.
When I drag any of the P2 folder content on the Log and Transfer window I can see all the clips. I can successfully transfer small B-roll clips I have but any big size file (all my interviews) return an Unknown Error symbol at the end of the transfer. I believe this is probably why I didn't encounter any issues during my first time.
I tried deleting the preferences in FCP and then Logging and Transfer and it works if the systems settings are set for the Mac Pro but not for the external HD. The problem is I don't have enough space on my Mac. I have cleared 45GB of space but my P2 files total 54GB. I tried the same process with a Mac Power Book with FCP 5.1.4 and again in encounter the same problem.
The external HD is a 1TB Western Digital that I have used before with FCP for editing but never before with P2 files. Its in good working order and has 79GB free space remaining. Both the camera and the P2 cards (16GB and 4GB) are also performing as expected.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.
ALSO make sure that the folders that contain the CONTENTS folder doesn't have any odd characters like /!@#$%^&*()?.
