Log and Transfer Issues - Canon HF10

I have just recently acquired a Canon HF10 video camera and have had success getting some of the video to my Mac via log and transfer, however when the video files seem to be much longer than a few minutes the process fails. The status bar while it's transferring makes it all the way to 100%, but the file itself never moves up to the browser. When I click the file in the log and transfer window after the status bar has stopped moving I get a red exclamation mark with unknown error. Any help on this will greatly be appreciated.

I believe I have figured out what the issue is. I was using an old 250Gb external as my scratch drive. Well - this drive is in FAT format and I just discovered that the FAT drives are limited to 4GB limit, hence the reason I couldn't transfer my larger files. I'm planning on reformatting this drive to Journaled OSX and I should be cool.

  • Log and Transfer with Canon XF300's after 1.0.2 Firmware upgrade

Is anyone having issues with Log and Transfer with Canon XF300's after 1.0.2 Firmware upgrade?

Yes, just experienced it yesterday at a shoot after upgrading to 1.0.2 two days ago. Have you found a solutions yet?

  • Canon HF S20 and Express log and transfer issues

I know another thread addressed this, but there was no solution (that I found).
I get the red octagon with the ! sign in the "status" column when I try to put clips in the queue from my Canon Vixia HFS20. I'm guessing this means FCE doesn't support my brand new camera, which probably means I have to shell out the grand for FCP- which I can't because I just bought the mac, express, and the camera (broke).
    any suggestions?

    Hi -
Your camera should work with Log and Transfer and FCE.
Did you record your clips in either the MXP or FXP modes, and at what frame rate?
    Thanks

  • Log and Transfer Errors with HF10/HF100 AVCHD Cams

Log and transfer will transfer about 80% of clips on the Canon HF10 AVCHD camcorder, but the rest receives a red exclamation icon hovering over which brings the useless explanation box "Unknown Error".
Using My Book Pro II dual HD with data stripping connected via Firewire, no speed issues there. Over 900GB is free on the drive, too. Moreover, copying the BDMV > STREAM > *.MTS structure to a DVD and then running the Log and transfer brings up the same error and nothing is transferred.
The best part is that the same clips transfer just fine using iMovie '08. It is even possible to then import them from the iMovie project folder into Final Cut and then work with them.
Hopefully some smart person has an idea what I could try. Thanks!

OK, people. Got a freaking work-around.
Select the clip in the log and transfer window *), then define your IN and OUT points for this clip, THEN hit "Add to Queue". Marked portion of the clip will import nicely. Now we just need full 1980x1020 support. Hopefully an updated FCE soon?
*) Interface of the Log and Transfer window is as beautiful as any Mac app. Why hasn't that interface lift ever made it to the rest of Final Cut? Hopefully, next version.

  • Log and Transfer w/ Canon HF20  FCE

I have the canon hf20 It worked perfect with imovie 09,
I just bought Final Cut Express, I can't get it to log and transfer for the life of me. Is final Cut Express 4 and Canon HF20 compatible?
How do you import video / log and transfer?
I can't find the answer anywhere!

I have a Canon HF S100 and am also running into the problem. It will bring my clips up but when I drag them over after setting up an in and out it says there is no data.

  • Log and Transfer issues

I have a 2GHz Mac Book Pro with 2 GB or ram. I use this quite a lot when shooting and editing with my Panasonic P2 (HPX2000). Usually, I log and transfer DV, DVC Pro and DVC Pro 50 files with no issues. The other day, I shot a concert in 720P and when trying to log and transfer a 40 minute video, it would not finish. It would show the file transferring, but show the exclamation point at next to it, alerting me that it had problems. I was able to transfer over small chunks and edit them together in FCP, but I wonder if this is a ram issue or something like that. Any thoughts?

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.
ALSO make sure that the folders that contain the CONTENTS folder doesn't have any odd characters like /!@#$%^&*()?.

  • Log and Transfer with Canon 5d mark iii footage on OS 10.5

FCP is not recognizing my SCDH card in the Log and Transfer window
and I'm wondering why this is.
I am running OS 10.5 - and there were no additional EOS drivers available
on Canon's website for my OS.
I am shooting with the new 5D mark iii. When I first got the Rebel T2i a few years
back, I had the same problem and installing the Canon driver worked to
get the card to show up in the Log and Transfer window.
Does anyone have tips for how to get my Log and Transfer window to recognize
a card from the 5D mark iii?
    Thanks.

    Hi, guys.
In my experience, the best native format is ProRes MOV while the 5D Mark III recorded file is H.264 MOV. So I have been using a H.264 to ProRes MOV Converter to help me change the 5D Mark III H.264 MOV files before importing to FCP on my iMac. I found the way from Google. The below is the link.

  • Must I "Log and Transfer" from Canon HG 10?

I have a Canon HG 10 (which is an HDD camcorder) and I'm using a 2.2 ghz macbook pro with OS 10.5.6. I can open the camera's disk image on my desktop and copy the "AVCHD" folder to my hard disk, and everything seems to be there. Question: can I simply navigate to the video clip folder and import the clips into FCE, or would it be more complicated?
In the past, if I copy the "AVCHD" folder to my hard disk, and then make a disk image out of it, imovie has treated the disk image like a camcorder (I haven't tried this yet with FCE), but I'd rather not have to make the AVCHD folder into a disk image-- doesn't seem like this should be necessary. Thanks

I want to keep a duplicate of the camera's information, before it is imported into FCE. I can log and transfer from the camera, but I'd like to keep an exact duplicate of the video camera's disk information on another hard disk even after it has been deleted from the camera. Also, it seems to not take nearly as long to open the camera's disk image and copy the files than it takes to log and transfer into FCE, from the camera, so apparently I don't have to keep the camera connected to the computer as long as long as I can retrieve the files from the copy later.

  • Log and Transfer from Canon HFs100

I have connected my Canon HFS100 via usb cable to my mac and am able to use log and transfer to import/convert most of the clips. The problem I have is that it will not convert about 10% of the clips for some reason.
I am able to view and play the clips that are not able to be converted in the player in the log and transfer window, but when I add them to the queued section to convert them it tries to convert them and then fails. I get the Red Stop sign with exclamation point.
All video was shot one after another and nothing different was done.

    Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
Note: For FCP 7 the file will be called "Final Cut Pro 7.0 Prefs", obviously.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up. I

  • Log and Transfer from Canon Legria HF M36

    Hello everyone,
    I write from Italy.
I have a big problem. I can not successfully import video clips from my camcorder Canon Legria HF M36 into Final Cut Pro using Log and Transfer with any setting. If I get same clips in iMovie 09 I get clips into Apple Intermediate code, good. If I use the same clips in Final Cut Pro 7.0 video looks rough. I do not know what to do. Who can help me?
    Thank you very much
    Giovanni Losacco

That camera is confusing me when I look it up on BandH. Is it HD or SD?
It sends to SD card, yes? What format are you bringing it in as? I'd try Apple ProRes LT to start. See if that works.

  • Log and Transfer Issue with JVC Camera.

    Hello all,
I am using JVC GY-HM100U and Final Cut Studio (FCP7.0.3).
I have installed JVC_Plugin1_0_3.dmg as Apple recommended.
However, when I connect SD card to FCP, I can not still use 'log and transfer' of FCP.
Do you know what's the issue is?
    Thank you.

The warning sign pops-up as below.
"CLIP" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
I am recording in Kingstone 16GB Class 10 SD card.-I have formatted before using it.
    I am shooting with 1080 60i.

  • Log and transfer with Canon cameras

Hello. Using Final Cut Pro 7 to edit my project.
I've been importing footage successfully from my Canon 7D using the Log and Transfer plugin.
I tried to do the same with new footage from my Canon Powershot S100.  I receievd this error:
"contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."
I transferred the files from camera --> external hard drive keeping the original file structure.  is there another way I should be importing footage from a non-EOS camera?
    Thanks!

I'm not aware of any plugin that Canon has for the S100 but you may want to check on that. If they don't, it would be best to convert the footage to ProRes 422 prior to importing into an FCP project.

  • P2 log and transfer issues (6.0)

In light of the recent 6.0.2 problems, I decided to use a friend's machine to import some P2 data. He has 6.0. I imported the cards a.o.k. except for one.
Log and transfer attempts to read the data (after assigning the custom path) and after a couple seconds, final cut just quits and gives me the following error message:
"The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. THe problem may have been caused by the libMXFSDKr.3.2.0.132.dylib plug-in."
Has anyone experienced this? What are my other options for P2 reading/transferring ?

    Enzo,
    ho trovato quest...ooops! Sorry
I found this in my favorite links!

Hope one option or another will help you to transfer content from that P2 card.

  • Log and transfer issues or xml settings issues

    Hi All
I dont know if this is a problem for anyone else.
This problem arises from log and transfer of red footage.
    1. In version FCP6 the xml created from fcp for flame was absolutely fine.
    2. Since we loaded 7 the xml keeps making the file name the folder name ...ie
A001C011040745, but when i generate my xml for flame it looks for A001_0407VQ.RDM.
I have loaded a xml from version 6 into 7 and redone the xml but its fine.
This only seems to happen with log and tx in version 7????
and this is across 4 x version fcp 7 machines.
any help will be good thanks

You said you have some FCP6 sets still.
I don't think there is a fix (other than sending [Feedback to Apple|http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html].
But you can do some troubleshooting yourself.
Export an XML 4 from FCP7.
    Import that in FCP 6
Export an XML 4 from this new FCP6 project.
Does the FCP6XML4 import properly in Flame?
If so, then open both XMLs with a texteditor and compare the two.
You can use the free [Textwrangler|http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler> application for an automatic comparison.
It might be that Flame is choking in a header only and that changing the header will fix this. I'd also give Flame (Discreet? AutoDesk?) some feedback about this problem.

  • Log and transfer from canon xf100 footage - only 2/3rds transferring

    Hi
Have looked at all the discussions around log and transfer, but am confused as to why many go through brilliantly, but about a third have an 'error unkown!' sign. Why sould some go through and others not? What can I do about this?
    Any suggestion welcome

I haven't run into this problem with this format. Do you mean that typically a third of tthe Log &Transfers fail or that a third of the clips in an L&T typically fail to import?
