Log and transfer not changing frame rate to slow motion on P2 cards...

Hello.
I swear I have done this before on final cut studio 2 and it came out correctly, but for some reason this time, either myself or the computer is making an error. (chances are it's me).
Basically, I'm logging and transferring footage that was shot on P2 at 50 fps, and my intention is to import it at 23.98 fps. I thought this is something that naturally happens in the log and transfer process, but i guess not?
My project was set up via easy set up at panasonic dvcproHD frame rate 23.98... and I'm logging an d transferring directly into my browser but the f frame rate stays at 50 fps. (footage was shot in England to be incorporated into a video already shot in America).

I thought this is something that naturally happens in the log and transfer process, but i guess not?
Your guess is right...it DOES NOT slow it down upon injest. ONLY if you set the camera up to shoot 720p25 and then choose the 50 frame rate (I hear this is what you do...I am not a camera guy, so...), then it will import slowed down. But you have to set the camera up CORRECTLY. The first time I imported slow mo, it was 60p...and I had to use the Frame Rate Converter to slow the clips. Then my camera guy figured out the setting in camera and BOOM...there it was.
So...I guess you are NOT wrong...actually. It just needs to be set up IN CAMERA in order to do what you want.
and I don't know if the Frame Rate Converter works for PAL footage...stupid, but...no...Stupid.

  • Importing 60i footage using log and transfer, not working :(

Hi, when I import my 60 fps footage in to Final Cut Express using the log and transfer method (because the footage is AVCHD) it always changes the frame rate to 29.97 even if the frame rate is lower like 24 fps. I need this to be 60 frames per second because I'm working with a slow motion shot and need to get the most frames from the footage.

    Thanks, David,
We had done all of those little tricks to no avail... but we did figure it out.
It turns out it was a corrupted sequence that was causing the problems.
Trashed the sequence, now everything's happy again.

  • Log and Transfer not working at all

I'm really frustrated by the Log and Transfer procedure. Does it actually really work?
I have some HiDef video on an SD card, (no mixed media, just the video files) and the Log and Transfer option WILL NOT bring any of the files in. They are all AVI files, 720p, readable/playable by QuickTime, even readable and usable by FCE if I drag and drop each file, although to watch it without stuttering, I need to render it. The video is from a D-SLR (Pentax K-x to be exact)
But I want it in a native format so after it brings it in, I don't need to re-render it every time I move or trim it .0001 seconds in one direction.
When I try and do the Log and Transfer procedure, I get the error message that :
"xxxx contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."
No support for 720p AVI files? Seriously? That just can't be right.
I have tried selecting the top level mounted object as well as selecting various directories drilling down into the card's data. Same error message every time.
I have also tried selecting various "Easy Setup" configurations. None made any difference what so ever.
The manual seems to suggest that you just select the media object and the magic happens. What the heck is going on? Any ideas?

    Hi -
FCE currently supports 3 types of media directly:
The latter two types, HDV and AVCHD it supports by converting the video format to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) during the ingestion process.
The video that your camera makes is none of those formats, so you will need to convert the video to a format that is usable in FCE natively. This is why you are unable to use Log and Transfer. In order to use Log and Transfer, you would need to have video that conforms to the AVCHD standard.
You can manually convert your video files by downloading MPEG Streamclip (free) from
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
and converting your video to AIC 720P.
Then use easy set up in FCE for HDV 720P and manually import your files by going to the menu File > Import, or simply dragging the files from the finder to your FCE browser.
You don't mention what frame rate you camera shoots at, but FCE only works with standard broadcast frame rates (29.97 fps), so it won't be able to use 24fps material.
You would need to use Final Cut Pro to natively support that.
    Hope this helps.

  • LOG AND TRANSFER not working after upgrade ...?

    Hi ..
    I am running FCP 6.0.5
I am using Mac OSX 10.5.6
I've been using the 'log and transfer' window of FCP for the past few months without any trouble ... until today.
Every time i transfer the clips everything appears to go smoothly, but then when the 'transferred' clip is played back there is an odd 'jumping' or 'glitching' ... IE: the resulting footage is definitely NOT usable.
The only thing that i can think of that's changed is the fact that I upgraded the software last thursday and i probably hadn't transferred any footage since then. Is there an FCP conflict with the latest quicktime or Itunes upgrades?
I have tried re-transferring some clips from last week before the upgrade and the transfers now have the glitches.
I need this working as soon as possible! I have deadlines! Anyone who can help it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Log and Transfer not working with Sony AVCHD camera

Hi, I have a new Sony AVCHD camera. The HDR-XR200 120GB hard drive model. It captures in 1920x1080i, and connects to Mac via USB.
FCP does not recognize the camera when I open the log and transfer window.
Can someone help me with seq setting and easy set up setting or other setting for it to work.
I am happy to import footage into FCP with AIC or prores 422. Just want to edit all the footage I have of my so's international soccer tournament held in Australia last week. I also have Final Cut Express on my Mac if that works better. This is very frustrating trying to get it to work.
    Cheers
    Bryan

I use a Panasonic AVCHD, which FCP doesn't recognise. Anyway I've spent months playing around because this little camera blows my Sony V1 out of the water in sheer quality.
Best thing is just get hold of a copy of Toast 10, you can then simply drag your .mts files into this and encode to whatever you want, I edit in pro res LT, but Toast will even encode it to HDV if you want to end up on tape(Even this result still blows the Sony HDV apart)
FCP is very fussy about even noticing the very existance of .mts files, so I wouldn't waste my time, scratching my head.
By the way, I use Firewire 800 drives, not USB 2 and also in the name of God BACK UP YOUR MTS FILES ON A NEW HARD DISC CALLED "BACKUP OF .MTS FILES!" LOL

  • FCP Log and Transfer not Recognizing .MTS

This is weird. Two weeks ago I received a bunch of MTS files and brought them into FCP 6.0.6 with Log and Transfer. Today I received a bunch more and opened FCP to log and transfer the files and now FCP won't recognize them I haven't changed anything to my knowledge. Any more troubleshooting ideas? I have clipwrap and that works but I have an outdated version and I guess upgrades aren't free so I only have the free trial version. Anyways, log and transfer worked great and now this problem!?
    Thanks in advance!
    Tim

FCP can recognize MTS video files as long as you have the whole file structure.
    AVCHD->BDAV->Stream and something like that.
If you indeed just have single MTS video file, you have to use a MTS Converting software.
    Hope my info helps.

  • Log and transfer not recognizing my p2 cards

I have been off my computer for a few weeks and I just went to upload data from my p2 cards and log and transfer will not recognize them. I copied the card contents with the text docs into folders on my desktop to do the transfer and the Log and Transfer still did not work.
Last time I had problems with this was a quicktime update, I have updated since and it worked fine until now. does anyone have any experience with this problem or have I just messed something up? I am running FCP 6.0.4.

Do you have FX Factory installed? Version 1 and 2...and the demos...interfere with import. Either remove it or update to 2.0.1 and that will fix it.

  • Log and Transfer not working after reformatting computers

I have taught with FCP for years.  This year, tech services reformatted my computers.  Since they were formatted, Log and Transfer does not work with my Sony Handycam.  A couple computers that have not been reformatted still Log and Transfer with no problems.  The only difference I can find is that the newly formatted computers are running OSX 10.6.8.  The computers that still Log and Transfer with no problems are running OSX 10.5.8.
I don't know if that is the problem, but would appreciate some direction here.

  • Log and transfer not working with Sony NX5??

Hello to all knowledgeable Final Cut Pro users!
When I first got my Sony NX5 I would shoot and plug the SD card into my mac book pro, select log and transfer in Final Cut (6.0.6), and there the footage would be! And it would transfer and all was wonderful. On my most recent job I was alarmed to find no footage showing up in Final Cut and no apparent way to get it off the card through FCP. Ever since this stressful event I haven't been able to get the footage off my SD cards through FCP and I really need to start editing this footage by tomorrow!  Sometimes it says error with the file structure and other times it says nothing and just won't open any files.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Why it would be working and then suddenly stop working? Any ideas how to fix it? I've seen a few people talking about having to download other programs but they seem to be hit and miss too.
Any advice will be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Maia

    Hi Shane,
I'm having this same issue but I have 7.0.3. FCP keeps crashing when I try to open the PRIVATE folder into the L&T. I posted my case in another thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3621089?tstart=0
Do you know why? Could you help me?
    Thanks a lot,

  • Log and transfer not working

I am attempting to ingest footage from my SDHC cards that is in a .mov format. Nothing happens. When I attempt to select the path to the files I'm told it is an improper or unsupported format. Any suggestions?

Did you install the EOS Log and Transfer plugin? You must if you want FCP to work with Canon DSLR through log and transfer.
THis tutorial link has links to the Canon site. You have to choose your OS, and then it'll appear in a list.

  • AVCHD log and transfer not on iMac, but does well on MacBookPro

The same raw AVCHD data on the same external harddrive can be easily logged and transferred on my MacBookPro (2006), but not on my iMac (2009). I tried it both with FCPro 6 and FCExpress 4, latest versions.
Are there some hidden conditions or settings to be taken care of???

Try uninstalling and then reinstalling FCP, and then updating fully. Use the FCS Remover from Digital Rebellion:

Something isn't working right, or is missing.

  • Log and Transfer doesn't "see" my camera

I just got back from an afternoon of recording the kids -- plug the camera into the computer, launch FCE and go to the log and transfer screen -- -and nothing. Panic now sets in. There seems to be nothing to be done, to get FCE to recognize the folder structure on my Canon Vixia FFS10 camera. What's up with that. (Why it needs a folder structure is strange to say the least)
It's not like the .MTS files aren't there. there's about 6GB of content that I'm anxious to get started transcoding. Is there something i'm missing on the log and transfer screen? The No Name disk is on my desktop, and using finder I can see the MTS files -- why FCE can't is strange.
    Suggestions?

I don't think I changed format on the SD card, although I can't be 100% sure, since I didn't format the card before today's shoot.
What I ended up doing, is copying the MTS files from the card to a scratch drive, and convert them to AIC using Voltaic, which I'm guessing is all the log and transfer does anyway.
Having done that I formatted the card, using the camera, then shot of a clip, and sure enough now the camera (which is no longer called no name, but rather called canon) is recognized by FCE and it looks like all is now working.
Is there a way to sending feed back to apple for future versions. It still seems to me that Log and Transfer is a bit too particular, when it comes to AVCHD.

  • Log and Transfer AVCHD footage

    Hello,
got a bizarre situation here with trying to log and transfer AVCHD footage: It's worked perfectly fine before, the volume automatically showing up in the Log and Transfer window. I shot additional footage on the same card (without erasing the older footage) and now nothing shows up in the Log and Transfer window. File structure on the card is intact, FCP seetings (ProRes LT) are the same and I can see the footage is there on the camera. Whatever I try, I can't get FCP to 'see' the card's content, not even the older footage which it transferred alright before.
I'm running FCP 6.0.6 and the only difference I can think of to the previous time when log and transfer worked is that I may have updated FCP (not sure what my previus version was, but it was only an incremental update).
I'm totally at aloss with this one – anyone out there with a clue what might be causing this?
    Thanks in advance!

Try using the add volume button and pointing to the card, which I assume is mounted on the desktop. If you select the volume do the clips load?

  • Log and transfer - E1 plugin

I downloaded the Canon E1 plugin for my Canon 60D, but it doesn't seem to work in FCP 7. The log and transfer screen brings up nothing. Do I need a card reader? I go straight from the camera and it defaults to iPhoto. What should my setting be in FCP's Easy Setup? So many format/codecs..Clueless. I'm shooting 1080 24fps.
    Thanks!

    Shane,
I'm having the same problem as Schmoel...  I have a 60D.  When I plug in the camera, it does not show up on the desktop.  And the EOS plug-in doesn't allow me to log and transfer files.  I watched your video twice, and though you mention at the start that you will talk about a hack for the T2i, I don't see it in the video.
    Can you help?
    Thanks!
