Log and Transfer problem with MXF files

Hi, folks.  I've spent an hour searching the threads, but I haven't found an answer to my problem (or anyone who's had the same problem).  Please help if you can!
We're using the Canon XF300 and we tested some footage a couple weeks ago.  We ingested it into Final Cut Pro (7.0.3) using Log and Transfer (after installing the Canon plugin) and it all came through perfectly.  Worked without a problem.
Now, we have a week's worth of field footage, captured exactly the same way, transferred to the same hard drive, exactly the same as the test footage...
See what I'm getting at?  EVERYTHING has been done the same.  Identical.
And yet the new footage is not being recognized in the Log and Transfer window.
Instead, this is what's happening:
What gives?  Everything we're doing is identical to the testing we did a couple weeks ago.  Like I said, I've searched the forums, read a couple dozen threads, followed the Creative Cow link mentioned in several of them.  I must be missing something.  Please fill in the gap for me.  Thank you!
Like I said before, we've downloaded the Canon plugin, imported test footage at ProRes 422, watched it, edited it, enjoyed it.  But now our new footage is unrecognizable by FCP.  And the directory structure is identical to that of the test footage.
Sigh...

UPDATE --
The field producers transferred the footage incorrectly.  They left off the master directory and went in 1 directory too far.
Yes, David, the frame rate was all the same (30p).
Russ... I imagine you were going to say something along the lines of "MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE ENTIRE DIRECTORY."  Leave nothing behind.
Now... the question is... can I create a new CONTENTS folder and simply drag the CLIPS folder into it?

  • Log and transfer problem with prores files

Working on RED project. Started several months ago. Shooting and logging as we go. Project setup on FCP, RED media converted to prores422 proxy with RED software(rocketcineX) and saved on Internal 2 TB RAID. NO problems for past 4 months. Moving prores422 proxy files into FCP via Log and Transfer. (I thought this was necessary, is it?) Anyway its working just fine. Loaded a thousand or so clips to date. Last transfer was August when brought in some P2 media. Now when I go and try to bring in the prores422 proxy clips as before suddenly I get error message of "unsupported media or invalid directory structure. This even applies to all the older files that I had already transferred by log and transfer. They worked before but now they don't. Any suggestions as to why the change? The project will be conformed back to original RED r3D files after edit. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

First, get Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) and trash FCP preference files. Run Disk Utility to repair all drives (Repair Permissions on OS drive). This should be done once a week, anyway. Disk Warrior would be your last resort (and should be run once a month on your drives, anyway). If Disk Warrior won't fix the problem, you have a dead hard drive. Replace it, restore from the backup you've been making of your data on a regular basis. I mean, you do have a backup that you do almost daily for such a large and important project, right?

  • Log and Transfer problem with Canon DSLR

I have not been able to make Log and Transfer work with my canon 5D mrk II files. I can import the files or even drag and drop them into FCE but never have been able to get them to come in using log and transfer function. I have tried every kind of file conversion using quicktime Pro and MPEG StreamClip. Does anyone have a way of getting their files into FCE using this function?
All I ever get is this error:
"DCIM" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
My file structure from the chip is: /DCIM/100EOS5D/MVI_**.mov (and also) MVI_**.thm

have you loaded the canon plug in for final cut? this may be the simplest way for you to get those files into FCP.

  • Log and transfer problem with cannon hf100 (AVCHD format)

Ok.. the preview look good in the log and transfer menu, but when I transfer them and click on them in the browser they play super blured, pixeled, funky.. What am I not doing?? Thanks for any help!!

Command zero will show your sequence settings.
    This is kind of important.
And what did you set as destination codec in the Log and Transfer window ?
Have you read the release notes on transferring AVCHD and also any of the knowledge base articles?

  • Efficient way get FCE4 Log and Transfer to read .mts files stored on drive?

    Hi All
I've searched the FCE discussion forum and not found an answer verified by more than one user to this question: What is an efficient way to get FCE4 (via the Log and Transfer window) to see .mts files from an AVCHD camera stored on a drive (NOT via the camera -- directly from the drive)?
I am trying to plan the most space-efficient system possible for storing un-transcoded .mts files from a Panasonic AG-HMC151 on a harddrive so that I can easily ingest them into FCE4. I am shooting a long project and I want to be able to look at .mts files so that I can decide which ones to transcode to AIC for the edit.
Since FCE4 cannot see .mts files unless they have their metadata wrapper the question is really 'how do I most efficiently transfer .mts files from the camera to a storage harddrive with their metadata wrappers so that FCE4 can see them via the log and transfer window?'
Nick Holmes, in a reply in this thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10423384&#10423384
gives 2 options: Use the Disk Utility to make a disk image of the whole SD card, or copy the whole contents of the card to a folder. He says he prefers the first option because it makes sure everything on the card is copied.
    a) Have other FCE users done this successfully and been able to read the .mts files via Log and Transfer?
In a response to this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10257620&#10257620
wallybarthman gives a method for getting Log and Transfer to see .mts files that have been stored on a harddrive without their metadata wrappers by using Toast 9 or 10.
    b) Have any other FCE4 users used this method? Does it work well?
    c) Why is FCE4 unable to see .mts files without their metadata wrappers in the Log and Transfer window? Is it just a matter of writing a few lines of code?
    d) Is there an archiving / library app. on the market that would allow one to file / name / tag many .mts clips and view them prior to transcoding into space-hungry AIC files in FCE?
Any/all help would be most gratefully received!

I have saved the complete file structure on DVD as a backup, but have not needed to open them yet. But I will add this. As I understand the options with Toast you are infact converting the video to AIC or something like it. I haven't looked into it myself, but I can't imagine the extra files are that large, but maybe there are significant, I don't know. The transcoded files are huge in comparison to the AVCHD file.
A new player on the scene for AVCHD is Clipwrap 2.0. As I understand this product. It rewraps the AVCHD into a wrapper the Quicktime can open and play. This is with the MTS files only, the rest of the file structure is not needed. The rewrap is much faster that the transcode to AIC. So you have the added benefit of being able to play the files as well as not storing the extra files. The 2.0 version (which is for AVCHD) was just recently released. I haven't tried it and don't personally know of anyone who has. You might want to try this, there is a trial version as I recall.

  • Log and Transfer Problem - Red Exclamation Stop Sign

I cannot log and transfer any of my files from a Panasonic HD camera P2 card.  I checked the other posts about this and tried most of the solutions.  The one thing I noticed is that my external hard drive (which is usb) is formatted for Windows NT but it has worked fine for several months until last week.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    Shane,
I found one locally but wanted to see what you think.  It is a
Western Digital My Book Studio LX 2 TB FireWire 800/USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive (Aluminum)
    Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-FireWire-External-Aluminum/dp/B003IT6XDI/r ef=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1307482250&sr=8-3
Will this work?  It does spin at 7200rpms.

  • Log and Transfer Problems. Vixia HF10

If you have used this camera before. Yes the format is weird. Now I recently purchased Final Cut. And when I try to use Log and Transfer...It won't transfer. Like My Easy Setup is set to HD Apple Intermediate 1080i60.
But when I drag the video. It gives me a red exclamation. It's connected by a usb. But it does not have a firewire cable.
How do I get my Final Cut to transfer. It doesn't even start to transfer. It just shows the processing icon. and Then it goes to the red exclamation

    Hi -
Verify that you are using FCE 4.0.1.
Connect the camera via the USB cable.
Open the Log and Transfer window.
Click on the little gear shaped icon towards the upper middle of the L&T window
    !http://www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/L%26TPrefs.jpg!
Select Preferences from the drop down menu.
When the preference window opens, set the AVCHD Plug-In audio format to Plain Stereo.
Now try connecting the camera and see if you can import your files via Log and Transfer.
If there are clips on the camera memory that are recorded with different settings, this can cause problems. The clips need to be all HD clips.
    Hope this helps.

  • Canon Log and Transfer problem

    Hello all,
I'm trying to upload some HD files from my Canon HF20 on the latest edition of FCP to my iMac 10.58 and running into a problem.
FCP recognizes the video captured on the internal memory. However, it does not recognize the video captured on the SD card in the camera.
    Any ideas?

Well, I'm connected to my iMac using a USB. (iMac is running version 10.58 of Leopard). I'm using the latest version of FCP 7.0.2
I can log and transfer files "taped" to the internal memory of my HF20. Files show up fine and import fine.
However, the files that are on the SD card in the camera don't show up in the Log and transfer. ( I put the SD card on a card reader and still no luck.)
I put the card back into the camera and hit the "Add volume" on the top left of the log and transfer and I can see my Canon drive and the other drive which is called "No Name" (I'm assuming simply because I haven't named it anything) I'm also assuming the No Name Drive is the SD card. However, I may be wrong. All the files are grayed out on this drive.
Not sure what else I need to add to give you more info. Let me know if what other info needed and I'll post it.
    Thanks again!

  • Log and Transfer problems

i have the new HCM150P Panasonic AVCHD camera. I have a duo core, 4 gig ram, external hd on usb 2.0 (new G Tech TB). When I shoot 1080p24 i have no problem with log and transfer, however, when I shoot 1080p30 my log and transfer has serious issues.
It ingests the video but with dropped frames, interspersed solid green frames and heavy stuttering. I tried the Perian pref fix but it didn't work. I got some good footage I'd sure like to use in the next project, please help with ideas...
    thank you very much,
    C

I am having the same problem....are you running an intel mac or pre-intel? I have a second G5 here that is intel based and Log and Transfer work flawlessly. Mine will work once I will see the footage and then after closing it the footage will not re-load.

  • P2 Log and Transfer Problem

I'm trying to import footage shot with these specs: (with FCP 7)
    Panasonic P2
    720p (960x720)
    25 FPS
    DVCPRO 720/25p codec
The clips open ok with log and transfer, but once they are transfered the footage has the following errors:
    - Playback rate is wrong. Everything plays back at half speed.
    - Audio drops out at exactly 2 seconds and 9 frames on every clip.
I tested a clip shot on the same camera in a different format (720/25PN camera native codec) and it transfered fine. No problems at all.
The error only happens with footage shot in 720/25P (DVCPRO).
Does anyone know what is going on with this?
    Thanks

In the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.

  • Canon 550D/T2i log and transfer problems

    Hi there...
I am trying to use log and transfer to get footage from my Canon 550D into Final Cut Pro (6.06)
I have installed the Canon E1 plugin and modified it in accordance with instructions elsewhere but alas everytime I try to transfer the footage I am warned it the directory structure is invalid.
Does anybody know a way around this other than using Compressor or MPEG Streamclip?
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated

    try running a "System Update"
make sure you have your copy of fpc is up to date.
that did it for me. I am no longer getting that "Invalid File Structure" warning
and can just move the files to my external drive and log and transfer sees them.

  • AVCHD and Log and transfer problems

Ok a while back we purchased a Sony NX5 and until now I haven't had to shoot any major projects with it. But every so often I have been shooting bits and pieces for our stock library. However we also have a secondary JVC GY-HM100 camera that can use the same SD cards as the NX5. So sometimes I'd shot onto a SD card in the NX5 and maybe swap it over to the JVC on another occassion.
Well I started to run into some issues that I initially thought was a result of using the same card in both cameras. The issues were that when I brought the NX5/AVCHD rushes in FCP through Log and Transfer the clip numbers wouldn't make sense, either I'd end up with duplicates or they would suddenly jump by 200-300 increments.
So to try and get to the bottom of this I shot an interview last night, but before starting I fomatted the 32Gb SD card in the NX5. The only thing that happened thereafter was at one point in the proceedings I lost power to the camera (loose cable), but it was not while recording.
So this morning I pull the rushes into FCP via Log and Transfer (L&T). The way I personally do this is to copy the whole AVCHD folder on the SD card onto my Mac hard drive and thereafter point L&T to that loctaion. Incidentally when I did copy the AVCHD folder across, inside there were 38 files in the STREAM folder starting at 00000.MTS going up to 00037.MTS.
So next I fire up FCP and point the L&T windon at said AVCHD folder on my hard drive. At this point inside the L&T window it is showing 76 clips (not 38), ie for the first half of the list it shows clips 1 - 38 followed by (further down the list) another 1 - 38 again. Both sets of clips seem identical according to what I can see on the little thumbnails.
So none the less I let L&T convert them to ProRes and guess what clip numbers it produces in my FCP Browser window? Clips 3 - 38 followed by Clips 290 - 329. Ironically clips 328 and 329 are the same as clips 290 and 291... which also happen to be the same missing clips 1 and 2 from the 3 - 38 range.
This is just driving me nuts, I can't possibly work on major projects with this going on!
I have to shoot 2 more interviews tonight so can someone give me an idea of what is happening and how I can correct it?

Thanks... and rats! Do you know whether something like Clipwrap will resolve my issues, or some other flavour thereof?
Thanks again, at least I know that it's not me doing something ultra dumb!

  • LOG and TRANSFER stall with Sony MRU unit

Hi- LOG AND TRANSFER of my 1.5 hour footage only gets to about 10% of import then goes "idle".
    Any thoughts?
    thanks in advance!

I may not be of much help, but at least I know what you are talking about camera-wise as I have a Z7U also.
It is rare I have a problem with capture but when I do it is all or nothing, not 10% then goes idle.
The few times I have had problems was when I tried to record to tape at the same time and had it set so the buttons were pushed separately so I could keeping recording on the compact flash over those seconds when I had to change tapes. So now I just have them synced together and set up another camera (unmanned if necessary) to record during changing tapes so I will have audio, then if I don't like the video on it, shoot some cut-away with the Z7U camera that I can use during that short space.
More to your point, under Final Cut System Settings, you don't have the Limit Capture box checked do you?
Has it ever worked for you?
I used to have pretty much your same machine and it worked, using FCP 6.0.6

  • Log and Transfer Errors with HF10/HF100 AVCHD Cams

Log and transfer will transfer about 80% of clips on the Canon HF10 AVCHD camcorder, but the rest receives a red exclamation icon hovering over which brings the useless explanation box "Unknown Error".
Using My Book Pro II dual HD with data stripping connected via Firewire, no speed issues there. Over 900GB is free on the drive, too. Moreover, copying the BDMV > STREAM > *.MTS structure to a DVD and then running the Log and transfer brings up the same error and nothing is transferred.
The best part is that the same clips transfer just fine using iMovie '08. It is even possible to then import them from the iMovie project folder into Final Cut and then work with them.
Hopefully some smart person has an idea what I could try. Thanks!

OK, people. Got a freaking work-around.
Select the clip in the log and transfer window *), then define your IN and OUT points for this clip, THEN hit "Add to Queue". Marked portion of the clip will import nicely. Now we just need full 1980x1020 support. Hopefully an updated FCE soon?
*) Interface of the Log and Transfer window is as beautiful as any Mac app. Why hasn't that interface lift ever made it to the rest of Final Cut? Hopefully, next version.

  • FCP "Log and Transfer" ignores some MTS files

    Good afternoon!
FCP's "Log and Transfer" will only pick up about 50% of the MTS files recorded on my Canon HF-10. Toast 9 can see them all, but of course the QuickTime conversion puts them a bit out of sync.
I've just spend rather a lot of cash on FCS2 for the Log and Transfer option. Does anyone know why only some of my MTS files are showing up?
    Many thanks!
    DAN

My guess is because you are on a G5, not an Intel Mac
If those files are AVCHD, you need an Intel Mac and at least 6.0.5.
