Log and transfer troubles

Hi,
I'm using Log & Transfer in order to import my Canon EOS 5d Mk iii video files on Final Cut Pro 7. Until 2 days ago it was working without problems. Now he doesn't work: since is starting the conversion it shows "clip duration 23 hours" and it doesn't create any converted video files... any suggestion?

There was a recent post with the advice that the timecode slection in the camera menu had to be set to free run in order for Log&Transfer to work properly. So I would double-check that setting.
I assume (since it worked before) you have the latest EOS plug-in. Lion seems to be the most recent OS that it supports.

  • Trouble with RED Log and Transfer in FCP6

    Hi there,
I am cutting my first RED feature and am having an issue getting all my footage into FCP 6. I decided to go with the RED Quicktime files and am Log and transferring them in as we speak. Most of the footage was able to be dropped right in with no problem what so ever but I am on the last 1TB hard drive and it won't mount the folders to transfer the footage except one. One folder when in fine but the rest won't even mount. I tried importing each .RDC folder in on its own but I get an error:
    WARNING
"A008c001_0212LV001.R3D" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
Obviously these files are put together the same way as the other couple hundred files but these ones are giving me trouble. Has anyone else ran into this problem and how do I get the footage in.
By the way I can open the .R3D files in Red alert without any problem
    Thanks,
    ~Jake

A while has passed, unfortunately. I've been working my way through this mess, as well.
When you get the "unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure" message it usually indicates that a catalog-like file is missing. The same now happens with P2 transfer.
Check for an ".rsx" file within the RDC folder. Log and Transfer may not be happy if this file is missing. Sometimes it gets missed when the media is being consolidated across drives.
** What I'm having trouble with now is that Log and Transfer repeatedly fails to load a selected directory --- except on the umpteenth attempt. You know, the one where I'm beyond the point that most normal people are up the Bell Tower sniping at the citizenry.

  • Trouble transferring from Log and Transfer.

    Hi,
I have a brand new Panasonic HDC-HS20 camera. I am recording with the HA1920 setting on my camera. While in Log and Transfer I am able to select the clips I want to add to the queue, but after FCE acts like the clips will be loaded; a red stop sign with a exclamation point appears. I have tried changing the conversion from Matrix audio to Plain audio, and that doesn't seem to change anything.
What does anyone think I need to do? Is it possible that this camera is so new new, that FCE does not fully support it yet?
    Thanks a lot,
    Nick Landt

I assume these settings will match my media because HA1920 is the highest quality setting on my camera. The only thing I could not figure out is what rate i should use.. i picked 29.97 fps. Could it be 25 fps?
And this is a hard drive camera. And all the media are the same format.

  • Trouble with FCP7, .mts, and Log and Transfer

I'm trying to upload footage from a Canon Vixia S200, and Log and Transfer won't work. For reference, the footage is stored on the SD cards in the camera rather than internal memory. When I tried Log and Transfer for an older Vixia that used internal memory, Log and Transfer worked. Is there some way around this?

FCP 7 doesn't work with 1080p60. That format came out after it's last update.  You need to use ClipWrap2 to convert the footage to ProRes 422...or use another editing app that will work with this footage.

  • Having Trouble importing? No Video's in Log and Transfer?

I have video footage's in my HD camera, and I want to import it to Final Cut, so first I got to Easy Setup and set the format to HD and set the ''use'' to HDV 1080i60. Then I open up Log and Transfer and they are no clips. There's just a blank row/list of no video's? Where are my video's?
And if I go back to Easy Setup, everything is all messed up, like the format is set to AVCHD. Everything is all different from how I set it before. What is going on?
P.S. My camera is a Samsung Full HD 1920X1080

Hard Drive:  The Hard Drive is on my camera (Sony Handycam)
Just needed some info on what is going on with your particular system.
Knowing the exact camera model will also assist us.
If this camera is standard AVCHD you should be able to connect with USB to Mac with FCE open and use Log and Transfer without all the fiddling around converting etc.
What FCE does during ingest is convert files to AIC. (Apple Intermediate Codec)
FCE cannot read the individual files in the BDMV folder, that's why all the converting is required when you use that method.
BTW: regards formatting drives/cards/memory on cameras; it is wise to use the actual device to format rather than a computer. This is a prime cause of read/write goof ups with solid state media. This applies to still or video cameras.
Keeping the COMPLETE card/memory structure in tact is vital for successful transfers.

  • FCP7 Log and Transfer, Unsupported Media . . .

Last night I used two different SDHC cards in my Canon Vixia HFS100.  FCP7 will import clips via Log and Transfer from one, but not the other.  It just ignores everything on it (but I have 1.4 GB of recordings on it).
When I copy the card to a hard drive and point Log and Transfer to that folder, I get the message "CANON contains  unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure"
Before using this card, I did a full initization of the card.  I compared the directory structures of the two.  They appear identical.  I haven't messed with either in the Finder.
How do I tell what is wrong?  How do I fix it?  Or should I just try converting with something like Voltaic?  I'm an FCP beginner.  So, I would rather not stray too far from its work flow.
    Thanks!

On the card that you are having trouble with:
    1) make sure there are no still images
    2) make sure there is no non-hd video (log and transfer works with AVCHD HD video clips, not MPEG SD clips)
    3) if possible, all the hd video clips should be of one quality/size/format setting
    4) in the log and transfer window, click on the gear shaped icon in the top center of the screen to set the Log and Transfer Preferences:
Set the Import Preferences for AVCHD to Plain Stereo:
Click OK, then restart FCP, reconnect the camera and try again.

  • How to import Canon FS100 footage (.MOD) via Log and Transfer?

I have a Canon FS100 video camera. I records in standard definition 480p video, and saves the files in the .MOD format. Lately, I've just been using iMovie to edit my videos because it can easily import to files. Final Cut Express cannot, though, as far as I'm aware. What I've been doing is copying the files onto my computer, then using a convertor to convert the MOD files into .MOV files, but then FCE has trouble editing it. It causes it to have to render after each edit. Is there an easier way to edit my video? I've tried converting the MOD files into other formats such as DV video, but it still has the rendering problem. My FS100 doesn't show up in the Log and Transfer window of FCE. Is there a way I can make it appear? Thanks.

.mod files are a problem. Are you shooting in 4:3 or 16:9 mode?
What app are you using to convert them ... and what are you converting them to?
The .moi files are index information associated with the .mod files that contain the actual video.
MPEG Streamclip should be able to convert the .mod files. You may need the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Componen, if you don't already have it on your Mac. ($20 download from the Apple Store). (You may need to change the .mod file extension to .mpg then open it in MPEG Streamclip.) If you are shooting 4:3 then in MPEG Streamclip convert the videos to QuickTime using Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC compression (this is a selection on the conversion screen).

  • LOG AND TRANSFER not working after upgrade ...?

    Hi ..
    I am running FCP 6.0.5
I am using Mac OSX 10.5.6
I've been using the 'log and transfer' window of FCP for the past few months without any trouble ... until today.
Every time i transfer the clips everything appears to go smoothly, but then when the 'transferred' clip is played back there is an odd 'jumping' or 'glitching' ... IE: the resulting footage is definitely NOT usable.
The only thing that i can think of that's changed is the fact that I upgraded the software last thursday and i probably hadn't transferred any footage since then. Is there an FCP conflict with the latest quicktime or Itunes upgrades?
I have tried re-transferring some clips from last week before the upgrade and the transfers now have the glitches.
I need this working as soon as possible! I have deadlines! Anyone who can help it would be greatly appreciated.

To cut unwanted parts off MTS files losslessly, try final mate for mac. That is the tool to help cut or trim MTS and still export MTS without any quality loss. Look through this blog to know how to make it done.

  • P2 files don't display in Log and Transfer VIEWER FCP 6.0

    Hey,
I'm trying to log a bunch of P2 clips in the P2 viewer and, while I can see a thumbnail of the clip in the left side of the screen, it won't show up in the viewer. If I hit play it appears to be progressing in the viewer, but no picture or audio shows. However it imports fine and the picture and audio is now there, but that doesn't help me actually log.
    I'm running 6.0.0 on X.4.10 with QuickTime 7.2.
    Ideas?
    Martin

+Have you updated to the latest version of FCP?+
No, I'm currently running 6.0 with QT 7.2 on OS 10.4.10. In searching the tech forums I'm finding a lot of people having problems with P2 and FCP 6.0.2 and QT 7.3 (which requires OS 10.4.11) so I've steered clear.
    +How have you copied the p2 volumes?+
Yes. The P2 volumes have been copied to hard drives. I'm not anywhere near the P2 cards at this point.
    +Where are they located?+
    LaCie 500 drives
+Did you write protect to the p2 card before copying?+
You mean on the original P2 cards? I don't know, but the files have already successfully been copied to the current hard drives. I can convert them to QT's using Log and Transfer without any trouble. What I can't do is see them in the Log and Transfer viewer before I import. I'd like to be able to do that so I can break them down into more manageable QT files on transfer.

  • Log and transfer in Final Cut Pro (final cut pro discussion wouldnt open)

Hello, I am having trouble importing files from my HVX200a into FCP. In the log and transfer window everything plays fine and in realtime. However, after I add them to my Queue and try to play them back in the preview window of FCP they play back in slow motion and half of the clip has disappeared. Some of the clips play back fine, others do what I just described...any ideas? Thanks!

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
In the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.
ALSO make sure that the folders that contain the CONTENTS folder doesn't have any odd characters like /!@#$%^&*()?.

  • Log and Transfer in Background causing big problems

I don't know if you are supposed to be able to have Log and Transfer importing in the background while you edit, but it seems to allow me to do this, but I have found a VERY BAD side effect.
Log and Transfer goes about it's business importing, but if I click around in the the bin, playback other files that are already imported, etc.  Log and Transfer will not fully import the clips it is working on.  BUT, instead of giving me ANY error, it simply thinks it did it's job.  The end results is a clip in my bin that is maybe 10 seconds long and the matching clip on the SD card is 5 minutes!  No error messages anywhere.
At first I thought I had accidently stopped recording on a good number of my clips.  I was freaking out.  Thankfully I found that the clip on the SD card was the full 5 minutes long.  When I reimported it (without doing anything in FCP at the same time) the full clip came in.  (THANKFULLY I had a disk image of the SD card and wasn't just relying on my backup for the FCP files post import).
Now I just make sure not to do anything in FCP while it's importing from Log and Transfer, but it seem like quite a dicey situation that could get people in a log of trouble.

Me too.  I've learned the lesson.  But I thought FCP used to NOT allow this.  It would beep and not let me do anything else.
I'm sad they let you do it, because someone can do it without realizing importing is still going on and mess things up and not realize it until down the road in the edit and be screwed.

  • Sony CX-160 camcorder compatible in Log and Transfer in FCP X?

Looking at Apple FCP X compatibility list and it is not on there.  I know this list is not anywhere accurate.  Camera is AVCHD .mts file format.
Anyone have this camcorder to confirm this first hand either way?
Thanks in advance. Do not have the FCP X yet.  Just seeing what I am getting myself into.

  • Log and Transfer Process Failed for AVCHD with SD card

I shoot on SD Cards using AVCHD technology.
It creates a file called “Private”.
When I want to ingest the footage into Final Cut, I must choose log and transfer and then drop the clip into the window.
I can see and watch the clip before I start the process but if fails when I try and complete the log and transfer process.
Any ideas / trouble shooting help to get this to work???

Fails how? What exactly happens? What do you see on your computer?
Exactly what format did you shoot? What settings are you using in FCP? What OS? What version of the software? What version of QuickTime? What computer? What drives? How's everything connected? What's the scratch disk? How's it formatted? That'll be a good start.

  • Log and Transfer FCP6 Crashes on open

Running Snow Leopard on a uni-MBP I open FCP 6.0.6 and try to open Log and Transfer, as soon as I select it the program quits. In the console I get "Unexpectedly Quit" as the error, and nothing more. Everything else works fine except this.
Anyone know what could be up? I've tried re-installing and have no success at all.
    Thanks!

Sorry you're having so much trouble. You did not say if you ad run all of the updates after reinstalling FCP. Be sure to do that, too. How you uninstalled FCP can make a huge difference; you want Jon Chapell's free FCP uninstaller app, see digitalrebellion.com
We've seen many "unexpectedly quit" threads over the last few months. I had my own episode; very frustrating. I ended up deleting Qmaster, reinstalling it from the FCP disks and then running all of the updates again. No clue yet why that needed to be done but it solved MY problem.
Deleting Qmaster is painless and easy reinstalled (much easier than doing the same with FCP but I have absolutely no idea if Qmaster is related to your situation at all. No idea at all.
