Log and Transfer Video Ingestion problem

I have a Sony camcorder that uses AVCHD on a HD. Problem is that I have clips that don't want to transfer over using Log & Transfer - only the audio is transfering. I can still see the video on the tool, but the preference for bringing over the video is grayed out - only the audio check box is checked, not the video - as a result no video is coming over - just audio clips.
I saw other posts on this topic, but no resolution. I'm using FCP Studio (latest version - I think 7.02. This is quite frustrating. Anyone have an idea? Is it a camera problem or a FCP problem? As I can see the video on the camera and in the Log and Transfer window, it feels like a software glitch.

  • I cannot log and transfer videos larger than 4 gb

I have final cut express 4.0.1, Macbook pro intel core duo 2 ghz, 2 gb ram, Canon HF100.
I saved my raw video onto a external drive, which is also my scratch disk. I have been able to log and transfer short videos fine. When I try to do this for longer videos, I get an exclamation point on my long and transfer window and my clip transfer is in idle.
I have noticed that when the long videos (over 5 min) are transferring, their sizes get bigger but then max out at 4 GB.
My audio is set to plain and I have the latest OS. I also changed my recording settings to match my playback settings = RT safe, video quality dynamic, frame rate dynamic.
    Please help.

    How is the external formatted?
It should be Mac OS Extended.
Most drives are pre-formatted to suit Windows FAT32, file sizes are restricted if so.

  • Log and Transfer Custom Path Problem

I've been ingesting clips from my Canon 7D using log and transfer. For the life of me I can't seem to get it to put the media on my external drives. It always wants to override my selection and send it to my main hard drive which quickly gets filled up and gives a warning. I come back an hour later and only 3 of my 81 clips have been logged and transferred.
I'm sure I'm missing a step somewhere. I open Log and Transfer, click the preference wheel (top right) select custom path, click on my external drive (sometimes I get the warning that media on these drives is not supported) and then select the clips, drag them to the bottom and walk away.
    Any suggestions?

  • Log and Transfer creates interlacing problems?

While using log and transfer to bring in footage from a friend's AVCHD camcorder, I've noticed that it shows a lot of interlacing with motion. While viewing in quicktime on my mac or pc, the interlacing is pretty bad, but ironically when viewed on webtv the quality is phenomenal...
So I need this footage on a DVD, I'm concerned that it will still have interlacing in this format. The footage I'm using from my tape-based (HDV) camcorder is fine but the captured footage of the AVCHD is interlaced. Anyone else having these issues?

Most AVCHD camcorders will record interlaced footage by default. The amount of interlacing you notice can vary greatly with different camcorders, shooting environments, amounts of motion, etc.

  • Log and Transfer from FTP?

I am trying to Log and Transfer video from an FTP connection. Unfortunately, FCP does not seem to be able to accept my CyberDuck connection as a valid path.
Is there any solution out there that will allow me to directly Log and Transfer video from an FTP server?

    Thanks for your response.
Downloading first works fine; I'm just trying to avoid that additional step.
I also don't want our editors to having to deal with an extra version of the material. Is there a 'delete after transfer' option somewhere that I'm missing? That would at least take care of the extra version problem.

  • Is there a way to import clips from AVCHD folders I have copied from my camcorder to my hard disk? With FCE I could import these clips using log and transfer.

In FCP-X is there a way to import AVCHD clips from an AVCHD file folder I have copied from my Canon hard disk camcorder to my iMac hard disk?  With FCE I used log and transfer with no problem; but, FCP-X doesn't import them. It will import AIC files that have been created in FCE from the original AVCHD files.  If FCP-X will not import these files directly from the copied AVCHD folder, is there a workaround using other software to convert the files? For example, Compressor? (Canon does not provide any AVCHD conversion software for OSX).

    Hi jphil and Tom
I have exactly the same problem but the answer you (Tom) provided did not help in my case. Trying to "Import ->From Camera" and pointing to the AVCHD folder yields the error message: "(Folder) contains unsupported files or has invalid directory structure."
    Folder structure is
    AVCHD
         BDMV
              CLIPINF
                   .CPI files
              Index.bdm
              Movieobj.bdm
              PLAYLIST
                   .MPL file
              STREAM
                   .MTS files
    AVF_INFO
         3 files (.bnp, .inp, .int)
    DCIM
         101MSDCF
              empty
         MODELCFG.IND (file)
My question is: Is that not a "camera archive" of the type you talked about in the thread? Is it on principle not possible to import the files in that format/directory structure? If not, since the shots were not taken by myself, what should I ask the guy who shot the movies to give me to be able to work with them in FC?
I work with a brand new Final Cut Pro X 10.0.4 (still very clumsy with it) on an iMac 11,3 with MacOS 10.6.8.
I downloaded the latest version of codec updates from the Apple support site but no difference.
    Thank you in advance

  • Log and transfer stops for some reason

I just upgraded to FCE 4.0.1.
I am trying to Log and Transfer video that is AVCHD 720 30p.
I have FCE "easy setup" set to "HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30".  I assume this is correct?
When I select a clip in Log And Transfer, put my in and out points, and choose "add clip to cue", the cued clip begins transferring and exactly 10 seconds later it just stops.  I tried to start over with a new project and it keeps happening.  Log and Transfer just stops.  No injesting.
And there are no clips showing up on my scratch disk.
    Help?

The AVCHD 720 30p was the camera info I was given.
I can't open the .MTS files with Quicktime or mpeg StreamClip so I'm unable to get any info from them.
When I select "get info" on the .MTS files (in a folder called "Stream", the attached screenshot shows this:

  • Log and Transfer not working after reformatting computers

I have taught with FCP for years.  This year, tech services reformatted my computers.  Since they were formatted, Log and Transfer does not work with my Sony Handycam.  A couple computers that have not been reformatted still Log and Transfer with no problems.  The only difference I can find is that the newly formatted computers are running OSX 10.6.8.  The computers that still Log and Transfer with no problems are running OSX 10.5.8.
I don't know if that is the problem, but would appreciate some direction here.

To cut unwanted parts off MTS files losslessly, try final mate for mac. That is the tool to help cut or trim MTS and still export MTS without any quality loss. Look through this blog to know how to make it done.

  • Having Problems Importing Video From Camcorder ( Log and Transfer?)

    Hi everyone
Today i received my Canon HF11
    It records AVCHD format.
I'm pressing log and transfer, and it comes up, however when i press 'add to queue' it will be added, then an icon comes and spins for a few seconds, then it'll stop and turn into a red octagon with an exclamation mark in the middle
A few people have said 'Choosing plain stereo fixes it' - but it hasn't, and i've changed pretty much everything to 'apple intermediate codec.
I've done 'easy setup' and changed it to HD, FPS to all formats.. i'm trying to kind of match everything but it's not working for me
I have a 2.4Ghz Aluminium Macbook, With Final Cut Express 4.0 trying to import with AVCHD
    Please Help

Trash your preferences. They've probably been corrupted changing to the wrong format. There is only one correct setting that matches your media. Select that.

  • Log and Transfer problems

i have the new HCM150P Panasonic AVCHD camera. I have a duo core, 4 gig ram, external hd on usb 2.0 (new G Tech TB). When I shoot 1080p24 i have no problem with log and transfer, however, when I shoot 1080p30 my log and transfer has serious issues.
It ingests the video but with dropped frames, interspersed solid green frames and heavy stuttering. I tried the Perian pref fix but it didn't work. I got some good footage I'd sure like to use in the next project, please help with ideas...
    thank you very much,
    C

I am having the same problem....are you running an intel mac or pre-intel? I have a second G5 here that is intel based and Log and Transfer work flawlessly. Mine will work once I will see the footage and then after closing it the footage will not re-load.

  • Problem with Log and transfer using AVCHD

    Hello,
I was wondering if I can get help. I use a Canon Vixia HF S200 and FCP Version 6.0.6
I have produced projects on my MacBook Pro 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 using this process before with no problems in the past. This problem just started and I dont know what has changed. When I open the Log and Transfer (LT) window I can see and hear all my video from the AVCHD folder in my harddrive just fine, I can scrub with no prob.... But when I add clip to Queue I get an red circle with exclamation on my status.
I have changed the settings on the preferences to Apple intermediate Codec and the audio to plain stereo.. no luck there, the video still will not transfer to my bin.
I have made sure that the toggle Queue state was the little arrow instead of the paused icon...no luck there either... i got a message that says clip queued transferring but nothing is happening.
    I will appreciate your help!
Also I didn't mean to tread jack earlier, please accept my apologies, if anybody saw that...

OK!!!!! This seriously cost me 1 day of my life that I'll never get back!!! lol
So I was able to bring the footage in on to Imovie...Yes, I was that desperate...deadlines do that!
Edited the entire project there...kinda sucked...
Then I had the bright idea that if I was able to bring the videos in to Imovie, on my local HD...than something may be wrong with my scratch disk that I use on FC...its a USB disk, specs =slow.
So I changed the scratch disk and yes "Davi S" for good measure I also deleted the Pref files.
So it working again...here I go editing on FC after I edited the entire project on Imovie...
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Canon Log and Transfer problem

    Hello all,
I'm trying to upload some HD files from my Canon HF20 on the latest edition of FCP to my iMac 10.58 and running into a problem.
FCP recognizes the video captured on the internal memory. However, it does not recognize the video captured on the SD card in the camera.
    Any ideas?

Well, I'm connected to my iMac using a USB. (iMac is running version 10.58 of Leopard). I'm using the latest version of FCP 7.0.2
I can log and transfer files "taped" to the internal memory of my HF20. Files show up fine and import fine.
However, the files that are on the SD card in the camera don't show up in the Log and transfer. ( I put the SD card on a card reader and still no luck.)
I put the card back into the camera and hit the "Add volume" on the top left of the log and transfer and I can see my Canon drive and the other drive which is called "No Name" (I'm assuming simply because I haven't named it anything) I'm also assuming the No Name Drive is the SD card. However, I may be wrong. All the files are grayed out on this drive.
Not sure what else I need to add to give you more info. Let me know if what other info needed and I'll post it.
    Thanks again!

  • Log and Transfer problem with MXF files

Hi, folks.  I've spent an hour searching the threads, but I haven't found an answer to my problem (or anyone who's had the same problem).  Please help if you can!
We're using the Canon XF300 and we tested some footage a couple weeks ago.  We ingested it into Final Cut Pro (7.0.3) using Log and Transfer (after installing the Canon plugin) and it all came through perfectly.  Worked without a problem.
Now, we have a week's worth of field footage, captured exactly the same way, transferred to the same hard drive, exactly the same as the test footage...
See what I'm getting at?  EVERYTHING has been done the same.  Identical.
And yet the new footage is not being recognized in the Log and Transfer window.
    Instead, this is what's happening:
What gives?  Everything we're doing is identical to the testing we did a couple weeks ago.  Like I said, I've searched the forums, read a couple dozen threads, followed the Creative Cow link mentioned in several of them.  I must be missing something.  Please fill in the gap for me.  Thank you!
Like I said before, we've downloaded the Canon plugin, imported test footage at ProRes 422, watched it, edited it, enjoyed it.  But now our new footage is unrecognizable by FCP.  And the directory structure is identical to that of the test footage.
    Sigh...

    UPDATE --
The field producers transferred the footage incorrectly.  They left off the master directory and went in 1 directory too far.
Yes, David, the frame rate was all the same (30p).
Russ... I imagine you were going to say something along the lines of "MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE ENTIRE DIRECTORY."  Leave nothing behind.
Now... the question is... can I create a new CONTENTS folder and simply drag the CLIPS folder into it?

  • RAD Ingest FCP Log and Transfer freeze

Greetings all, I am having problems using the Log and Transfer window in Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 on the IMAC system (Imac Intel Core 2 Duo 4 G 667 MHz Ram) I'm using- basically when I open it, at first it doesn't even open, then when I try opening it again, it shows up but has RAD Ingest written at the top, and the pane is frozen. It doesn't crash FCP but I can't close the window again. I don't have FXInstaller installed, so that's not the problem. All the P2 Media is on drives- its on a RAID mirror drive (I also read this could be a problem so I moved some of the media to another Firewire drive, and took the raid drive offline but it didn't make a difference).
I've reinstalled FCP twice now, the version I had was 6.0 and then I used software upgrade to upgrade it to 6.0.5. The OS I'm installing on is 10.5.6. On a side note, on my laptop, I've got OS 10.4.9 installed and FCP 6.0.5 and Log and Transfer works fine. I'm thinking it might be an OSX version problem because this has happened on another Mac laptop that has 10.5.6 on it. Any ideas on what it could be? I'm kind of at wits end....pulling my hair out kind of deal!
    Thanks for any input!!

    Hi David,
I have 4GB Ram installed, and the footage is P2 Cam footage that was copied on to the hard drives during the shoot. I transferred the P2 footage with Duel Adapter, not from the camera directly. Some of it is also AVCHD footage from mini HD cam. I've been using my laptop (Macbook Pro, OS 10.4.11, 2G Ram with FCP 6.0.5 installed) to bring in footage, and Log and Transfer works fine with the same footage but doesn't work with this iMac. I was hoping to stop using my laptop so I can do everything on just the iMac.

  • Log and Transfer Problems. Vixia HF10

If you have used this camera before. Yes the format is weird. Now I recently purchased Final Cut. And when I try to use Log and Transfer...It won't transfer. Like My Easy Setup is set to HD Apple Intermediate 1080i60.
But when I drag the video. It gives me a red exclamation. It's connected by a usb. But it does not have a firewire cable.
How do I get my Final Cut to transfer. It doesn't even start to transfer. It just shows the processing icon. and Then it goes to the red exclamation

    Hi -
Verify that you are using FCE 4.0.1.
Connect the camera via the USB cable.
Open the Log and Transfer window.
Click on the little gear shaped icon towards the upper middle of the L&T window
    !http://www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/L%26TPrefs.jpg!
Select Preferences from the drop down menu.
When the preference window opens, set the AVCHD Plug-In audio format to Plain Stereo.
Now try connecting the camera and see if you can import your files via Log and Transfer.
If there are clips on the camera memory that are recorded with different settings, this can cause problems. The clips need to be all HD clips.
    Hope this helps.
