Log and Transfer won't take P2 contents...

I tried following Shane Ross' P2 workflow video exactly, but when I attempt to open the folder containing the "Contents" folder and the text file, the media doesn't show up in the Log and Transfer browser. Nothing happens at all; I click open and the browsing window disappears and the Log and Transfer window is left as it was when I first opened it.
I had initially thought that the problem was that the drive I was trying to look at was NTSF formatted. I normally wouldn't check the formatting of a drive because most of the people I work with are Mac people, but I ended up copying everything to an OS Extended drive and the workflow still won't work.
I'm new to P2 material, the director doesn't know anything about and she hasn't been able to get in touch with her friend, from whom she borrowed the camera.
Do I need to download some third party software to make this work?
By the way, I'm using FCP 6.0.3 on a MacBook Pro (2.66 GHz, 2 GB RAM) with the media on a G-RAID drive through FW800. The footage was shot on an HVX-500.

Shane, thanks for the follow up.
Yes, that did turn out to be the problem. I saw the thread on DVXUsers. Of course they attributed the discovery of the problem to you.
By the way, the tutorial you did, after I fixed the FX Factory problem, was great. I'm really enjoying this method of logging and "capturing". After trying this out, I want to smack everyone that's ever made me capture HDV.
You're the man, Shane!

  • Log and Transfer won't capture entire clip...

    Hi there,
I'm trying to log and capture clips in FCP7 from and HVX200.
For some reason it doesn't capture the entire clip...the end gets cut off. I can see it in the log and transfer window, but when I transfer the clips, they become truncated.
Has anyone ever had this problem?
    thanks!

Go into the Log and Transfer prefs...that little sprocket looking drop down menu.  Choose PREFERENCES.  Uncheck "REMOVE PULLDOWN."
    Try again.

  • Log and Transfer won't recognize card

I'm having issues on both Mac Pro Desktop and MacBook Pros with FCP 6.0.6 not recognizing video on my Compact Flash card. The card DOES show up on the computer's desktop. We're shooting on Sony 270u cameras. The video on the card is in .avi. It was working before, but lately has stopped. I've re-installed the Sony Recording Unit plug-in and it has SOMETIMES corrected the issue. The cards are reformatted every time they are use(we were told to do this from a consultant at Apple). I'm at a loss. There's no time for issues like this at a News Station. Any help would be appreciated.

If it isn't software based, then why would the exact same card, card reader & laptop not work one day, then work the next morning? Everything was exactly the same. No new footage shot, no settings changed. The only thing I had him do was re-install the Sony Recording Unit plug-in. Of course, that didn't work for him when he tried out in the field. When I got the laptop the next morning it worked as soon as I powered it up.
And if the icon for the card shows up on the desktop, wouldn't that take out the physical part?
Sorry, but I'm just really frustrated that this keeps happening and I haven't figured out a way to fix it.
Thanks for your input. If you can think of anything else, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Log and transfer will not see contents in p2 folders

This just started happening. Before log and transfer was working great now it won't see
any of the video shot to p2 cards in most of my folders. Every now and then it recognizes and imports actual images into Log and transfer but not from the folders I need. This is really becoming a hassle I now have to go to my slower computer with a older version of final cut 5.04 and transfer using the import function (which works fine) is there any reason why log and transfer won't recognize theses files?

I just started having this problem on my laptop. And it has nothing to do with Noise Industries, because I've never had it installed on my laptop.
Same thing, though, with AVCHD files. I shoot them, copy the entire card to an external drive, then L&T from there. Just stopped working. Even cards I've transferred in the past won't load into the L&T window anymore.
Reinstalled software last night and was working again. Came downstairs this morning to start in on another project, and no L&T anymore.
No new software installed or upgraded, it just stopped working.

  • Trouble with FCP7, .mts, and Log and Transfer

I'm trying to upload footage from a Canon Vixia S200, and Log and Transfer won't work. For reference, the footage is stored on the SD cards in the camera rather than internal memory. When I tried Log and Transfer for an older Vixia that used internal memory, Log and Transfer worked. Is there some way around this?

FCP 7 doesn't work with 1080p60. That format came out after it's last update.  You need to use ClipWrap2 to convert the footage to ProRes 422...or use another editing app that will work with this footage.

  • Log and transfer doesn't recognize my SD-cards any more!

On my FCP7 log and transfer won't recognize SD-cards any more.
Log and transfer just flashes the "adding" -part and then nothing, or in some times it crashes the whole Final Cut.
I have been using the same cards, my old Canon 60D and Canon E-1 movie plugin for years. Only new thing is that I now have a Canon 6D with old 60D.
The weirdest thing is that, I have some old SD card images (made with disk Utility for back up) and when opened there are no problems.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Have you tried resetting your fcp preferences?  Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager is the best tool for doing this in my opinion.

  • P2 log and transfer

Hey guys, Im trying to import some P2 footage and log and transfer won't see it at all. Any folder. I have the same final cut pro on my laptop and it does import it with out a problem. What's up with my computer? they both have the same version and plugins, etc. Also, I used ex footage last week and didnt have a problem seeing that footage
    any ideas?
    thanks

Perchance could you let us know what versions of FCP you have?
We can't see that from here.
Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.
For example, we know what your desktop system is, but we don't have any information about your laptop. We don't know if they share the same OS and FCP version numbers.
We don't know how you are accessing those p2 cards for either computer.
Did you copy the volumes to each? Were the cards write protected before you mounted them.
Did you use FW or USB connect?
Is the same software installed on each? Are you using an earlier version of FXFactory?
    All things help.

Hard Drive:  The Hard Drive is on my camera (Sony Handycam)
Just needed some info on what is going on with your particular system.
Knowing the exact camera model will also assist us.
If this camera is standard AVCHD you should be able to connect with USB to Mac with FCE open and use Log and Transfer without all the fiddling around converting etc.
What FCE does during ingest is convert files to AIC. (Apple Intermediate Codec)
FCE cannot read the individual files in the BDMV folder, that's why all the converting is required when you use that method.
BTW: regards formatting drives/cards/memory on cameras; it is wise to use the actual device to format rather than a computer. This is a prime cause of read/write goof ups with solid state media. This applies to still or video cameras.
Keeping the COMPLETE card/memory structure in tact is vital for successful transfers.

  • Log and Transfer: FCE4 won't recognize files from my camera

    Hi ...
I have a Sony XHR-NX5U and am capturing video on an optional Sony 128GB hard drive built for this camera. I've shot AVCHD video in both 1080/60i HQ and 1080/60i FX formats, and the camera produces video files in an MTS format (nestled in a series of folders), along with accompanying CPI files (I don't know what these are for).
My FCE4 program doesn't allow me to either import these files or use log/transfer. I've been forced to buy an external program to convert the MTS files into MOV files and then import these (Log and Transfer still won't recognize these MOV files).
What can I do to get FCE4 to recognize and allow the files directly from my camera?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.
    - matt

I see your camera can be switched to record a bunch of ways.
    Try this one:
    AVCHD FH (17Mbps) 1920x-1080/60i
It should work with Log and Transfer over USB.
Also make sure you start a New Project in FCE with the Easy Setup AVCHD-Apple Intermendaite Codec1920 x 1080i60 selected and active.
Some cameras do not seem to transfer if mixed media is on the card. Try a test with the above media ONLY on the card.

  • Why won't Log and Transfer in FCP7 recognize video files from my SD card? They were shot on a cheepo Aiptek camera.

Why won't Log and Transfer in FCP7 recognize video files from my SD card? They were shot on a cheepo Aiptek camera.

David, the camera shoots .mov files. I have the latest version of QuickTime installed but still nothing.
I teach high school, but I'm reluctant to download FCPX for my students at the moment. I may try it but I really want to stick with what we're using currently, at least for now.
iMovie started to import files, but very slowly. I guess I'm frustrated that the files shot on the Canons I also use transfer just fine, but the Aiptek camera isn't cooperating.
Would you suggest using MPEG Streamclip?
    Thanks again in advance.

  • Why won't Express find my camera in the Log and Transfer window??

I plug my Sony DCR45 Hard Disk Drive camera in. I switch it to USB connect mode, and then I enter the Log and Transfer window. I wait a good 15 to 20 minutes each time and it just won't locate my camera! How can I fix this?

Well, your camcorder is not AVCHD, HDV or DV, so Final Cut Express is not going to 'see' your camcorder.
Sony's specs on this camcorder leave something to be desired, but it does say the camera records MPEG2-PS. If this is the case, you will need to convert the video to DV or Apple Intermediate Codec before importing it into FCE.
For most purposes, MPEG Streamclip can do the conversion however with MPEG2 material it needs the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component ($20) which you can buy & download from the Apple Store.

  • Log and transfer keeps going on idle... and won't load my clips

Final Cut Express has my video footage on there. But when I try to log and transfer it, it will have the spinny arrow thing that makes it look like it's loading clips but then it will stop and go on idle.
I have no idea what to do. I just put Final Cut Express on my computer the other day and this is the first time I am using it on this computer.
I already trashed my preferences, thinking that was the problem but I am totally at a loss. Please help. Thank you!!

There is lots of existing info on this forum about capturing AVCHD from Canon cams. Try a search.
Usually the trouble is in the Log and Transfer window settings.
Switch to Plain Stereo rather than the default Matrix setting.

  • I have footage shot on a p2 camera, why won't all of the clips transfer when using Log and Transfer?

Only about 60% of the clips transferred over or was shown in the Log and Transfer window.

Offload the cards...back them up.  That is priority #1.  Do that first...then return the camera.  Then try mucking about with this.
Back up the ENTIRE card structure.

  • Import P2 over FireWire like Final Cut Log and Transfer?

    Hello,
The ONE issue keeping me from using Premiere (which came with my Master Collection CS5) is that I can't seem to import files from my Panasonic HVX200 in a simple way.   In trusty old Final Cut I can easily do it using Log and Transfer.  Rename files.  Log them in any way I like.  Then drag them in, converted to the format of my choice.  Cha ching!  If I could get the same functionality in Premiere, then I'd never need upgrade my Final Cut again.
    Thoughts?  Suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Josh

Shooternz, thank you for clarifying.  I see your point.  I'm glad that works for you.  It sounds like you've really found a good way to work in Premiere.  Your advocacy for that way of working is compelling.
Here are my concerns.  Since you asked, "What's the dificulty?"  I'm not a pure video editor.  I'm a multimedia producer who shoots video, photos, creates tons of graphics, audio files, and a million other varied tasks, incuding needing raw files way into the future for edit in many programs.  If all I did was edit video then it would be fine.  Lots of random files, forgotten about later.  No big deal.  But, for me, I'll need those source files again.  And I'll want them when I jump to After Effects, ScreenFlow, or need a single fram to screen cap.  I won't want the whole Premiere Project.  Just one quick file.
Also, I recall very vividly when Adobe dumped Premiere for mac.  So, I have no intention of relying on it as my long-term file management solution.  Once bitten... as the old cliche goes.
Finally, what about Log and Transfer is tedious?  I find it relaxing.  Honestly.  When I said "elegant" I meant it.  It's one of my favorite bits of software.  And don't we all have our little favorites?  There are all the files on my card.  Now I'm watching to see which takes I like.  I name them, drag the winners into the box below.  It's worth any wait as far as I'm concerned.  Then the files are name clearly in my folder.
In the end, my feeling is that if Premiere really wants to play hardball, they ought to step up and help everyone with whatever workflow get files in, using the method they like.  It's a shame because they are 1/2 way there with the File Browser thing.  They could just add on bit of functionality, "Import to 'file' in 'format'."  Cha ching!

  • Log and Transfer Refuses to Detect AVCHD Card

    Hello all,
So I'm trying to get some media off of an SDHC card written by a Panasonic AG-HMC150. I take out the card, plug the card into my new Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro vers. 6.0.5, and it mounts to my desktop. I then open Log and Transfer, and nothing gets detected. If I create a drop folder on my desktop and point the path to that, nothing gets detected. So I updated to 6.0.6 and still L&T won't detect the card.
I thought it was the card, so I recreated this on another Mac Pro in the office, with only 6.0.4, and the L&T detected the card instantaneously.
I then took the card home and tried again on my MacBook Pro running 6.0.5 and it detected the card instantly.
So I'm a little amiss. I didn't set up this Mac Pro when it was installed, so I'm wondering if a setting was toggled somewhere that would prevent this Mac from detecting the card, or refusing the format. Anyone have any ideas?
    OS: My MacPro - 10.5.7
    Other MacPro - 10.5.4
    My MacBook Pro - 10.5.7

Turn off wireless, or ethernet networking...or just wait 2-3 min...it will show up. For some reason with networking on, if there are a LOT of shared machines out there, L&T wants to scan all of them to. I think...that is my only explaination, because when I disable networking, L&T works instantly.
