LOG_BUFFER = 2MB or 3MB

I am getting diffirent log buffer threshold greater than zero.... current LOG_BUFFER = 2097152.
Total RAM= 16GB
CPU = 4 ( Dual core)
redo buffer allocation retries = 23
redo log space requests=22
redo log space wait time=118
log file sync = 3865
log buffer space = 1
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Data Sheet

IMO,
What you need is to put online redo logs on faster disk, since you have quite a few log file sync event waits
redo buffer allocation retries = 23
redo log space requests=22
These two suppose to be near 0, you could try to increase the log buffer see if it improves.
Generally you won't see too much performance benefit from larger log_buffer, however biger log buffer has no negative impact either, except use a little more memory.

Are you not prompted a size - small, medium, large, original, etc. after selecting send for a message when a photo attachment or attachments?

  • Shared photo-stream, makes long file names with 42 random characters

Windows icloud 3.1, in a shared photo-stream, makes file names with 42  random characters long. It didn't do this in iCloud  2. I have installed  iCloud 3.1 on a windows 8.0 and 8.1 machine and two Windows 7 machines.  They all do the same thing.  It used to give me file names like  "IMG_0001.jpg" now it gives me random file names like  "01a9fc3363330464233a142486180f0c1622eb9fca.jpg" all the pictures are  out order.
Does anyone have fix for this? Does any one else have this  problem? I have posted this before and know one else that uses windows  seams to have this problem exect me. I did call Apple and they did some  research and bumped me up to senior  techs and eventuality Apple told me this is working the way it was  designed to. This is extremely stupid, I need the sequential file names  so the pictures will sort correctly.

I have never found a solution for this.
I did find a Work Around. What I do when I receive a folder full of pictures from another ios iPhone user, I copy all the photos as a batch from the PhotoStream folder into a free Windows program called "FastStone Photo Resizer" from www.FastStone.org. This program allows you to resize the photos as a batch to what ever size you wish. In my case I resize them to 2560 x 1440 which fills my 27" monitor and reduces the file size of each picture from 2MB or 3MB down to about 450 KB without degrading the picture as far as what you see on the screen.
This program will also within the same batch operation, allow you to sort the pictures by "Date Taken" which is the Date and Time the picture was taken. It gets this information from the EXIF data in the jpg file. This program will then rename the files with different numbering format options including date, time, alphanumberic and with just simple numbers starting at what ever number you wish to start with. I can get files that look like this again "IMG_0001.jpg" and have all the pictures in the correct order that they were taken. At this point, I save the pictures directly to a folder on my PC. The cool thing about this is, all the EXIF data is preserved as well. I can process a 100 pictures in less that 60 seconds. I hope this helps. For me, I can now live with this iCloud numbering defect.

  • Reduce and downsize pdf file

    Hi All,
I am looking for a method and guide to reduce my pdf file size from 100MB to 2MB or 3MB maintaining and preserving its original page size. I do not mind image resolution to be deteriorated drastically. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I have selected Printer Adobe PDF, under Adobe PDF Document Properties Menu, I picked Adobe PDF Setting tab. Then I editted the Default Settings as below:-
I managed to reduced the original size from 92MB to 3.6MB, however, the images were downsized tremendously.

  • Re-Sizing pictures......surely it must be simple?!

Just bought a new Imac 21".
I tried to answer my question from the video tutorial.....but the version of I photo on the video is different to the one on my computer!
How do you re-size photos you want to send by email?
When i click on share then email, i-photo takes the photo and places it into my email body without giving me the opportunity to re-size it and it stays at 2mb to 3mb even if I subsequently change the photo size to small. In fact whatever of the 3 sizes I select, the size of the Mb stays the same.
On the video tutorial with the older (i assume) version of I-photo there was a step to re-size the photo before it was placed into the email body.
Please help because I can't be sending everybody pictures of my baby if they are over 2mb! I want to reduce them to 200kb or so.
    Thanks
    Joe

    Thanks Terence,
I understand what you are suggesting, and that does work, but I thought one of the main benefits of i-photo was the ability to click send email rather than opening mail then dragging the photo etc.
Also I have linked up my mail to my hotmail address, which i am finding problematic so i wont be using mail in the future and I am going to unlink my hotmail account.
What has happened to the step it shows on the video tutorial which allowed the size to be changed?
I am new to the mac and I am very disappointed with the ease and design of the functions compared to windows.I was told everything was more user friendly on a mac, but i think windows is much better. For example the trouble I have had trying to share the i-photo library with my wife's account and my account on this computer has been incredible and required two almost hour long conversations with senior mac advisers. (the first one didn't know how to do it!). Its done now, but is much simpler using shared folders on windows.

  • Odering prints

I am having problems ordering prints from iPhoto. I select the photos, choose sizes, go to Buy. It starts to upload them, then after 2MB or 3MB gives the error message "an error occurred while uploading one of your files."
I have now tried this for two different sets of photos, several times, but the same thing keeps happening. Any ideas, please?

Never mind. I found that updating the Keychains solved my issue.

  • Speed or Performance Issue with Airport Extreme 802.11n

    Background:
Router 1: Linksys Wireless G 2.4GHz Router WRT54G (have been using for 1.5 years)
Router 2: Airport Extreme 802.11n Base Station Model: A1143 (just arrived)
Macs: Intel MacBook Pro & MacBook both Newtwork Adapters upgraded to 802.11 a/b/g/n and verified via "Netwrok Utility". The Netwrok Utility also displays the link speed at 54 mb under interface info. when the Linksys G router is selected and the link speed at 144 mb when the airport extreme n is selected.
    Observation & Issue:
Currently, for testing both network routers have been used seperatly (connected directly via the cable modem) and speeds for each latop verified via http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and normal "human" usage web surfing observations via Safari. Results below:
    1. When using the Linksys G router both the MacBook and MacBook Pro appear to be performing well and responsive with little or no wait on graphically/media intense sites such as apple.com
The speakeast.net/speedtest/ (using the NYC hub close by) downoad test displays 8MB to 10MB speeds
    2. On the otherhand, when using the Airpot extreme both the MacBook and MacBook Pro appear to be performing slower than usual with higher waits for image and page downloads.
In addition, the speakeast.net/speedtest/ (using the NYC hub close by) downoad test displays 2MB to 3MB speeds. Lower than what we experienced using the older router.
    Request for advide or help:
    1) Is this normal? Assuming it is not, what esle can I look at that can help me determine the root cause. The Airport Utility does not offer much assistance in this matter.
    2) Thus far I have opted to revert back to my Linksys g router. However, before returning the product... any other adivce on a potential miss in the configuration or setup would be of great help.
    3) Other's experiencing the same?
MacBook Intel & MacBook Pro Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   SUing Comcast Cable Modem

Contacted Apple Support (have an AppleCare account) tonight and the issue has been resolved with the caveat that I cannot have a mixed (g & n) radio mode on the same airport extreme base without significant loss of performance. These are the steps I was walked through to resolve my particular case:
    1) Verify that your hardware is indeed upgraded to use n (see steps in my original post)
    2) Open the AirPort Utility (new program that was installed from the install disc under applications/utility)
    3) Click on the Airport Extreme image on the right hand column to open the Airport Extreme settings
    4) Select the "Wireless" tab, then "Radio Mode" drop down and select 802.11n only (5 GHz)
    5) Select Update to apply new settings.
    Results:
When running the speakeasy.net/speedtest I am seeing results that are indeed better. However, the test shows that the top speed lowers a bit and jumps back up unlike when I am on my old g router, which does not have such a jump.
This test is not perfect but a good gauge. If anyone has any other ideas to test performance more accurately, please do let me know.
Note: Only n enabled devices now work with the n router. I will keep my old g router as a backup and for my work pc laptop.
Hope the above helps and thanks.

  • Slow Transfer Rate

    Hello,
I have a home network running on a Linksys WAG320n and i have attached to it a WD MyBookLive (w Gigabit Ethernet). I am connected on the network via my Dell with a Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN. I am not able though to connect on N range. I have installed the latest drivers from Intel but nothing changed. When i try to copy a file from my computer to the WD Network drive the transfer rates are very slow. I get Max 2MB/s - 3MB/s while if i connect my computer with a wire the speed goes up by 3-4 times more. I am not sure if i have to change something with my configuration or if there is something that i am missing.
    Can you please help me?
    Thanks,
    N.

Adjusting the advanced wireless settings might help boost transfer rates via wireless. Set Beacon Interval to 50, DTIM Interval to 3, Fragmentation & RTS Threshold to 2304 for both.
Wireless connections run slower compared to wired connections. Expect your wireless connection to perform half as fast as the wired ones.

  • Trouble sending 2MB-3MB pdf attachments in Mail.

I have sent 2MB-3MB pdf scanned documents as attachments in Mail for years.  In the last month, I can only get them to send intermittently.  What can be done?  OS X 10.6.8 running on iMac and MacBook Pro.  Same problem on both computers.  Not an email server issue.

What email provider? (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, ATT, other)
What happens when they don't send? Are they just stuck in the Outbox?
Have you looked at using DropBox?  Get a free DropBox account.
Drag the files into DropBox and you can get a link to send to your friend to download.
Another option with DropBox is to use a Shared folder. If you share files a lot with your friend, setup a Shared folder and everything in the folder will be shared. Obviously they also need to setup a free DropBox account (works on Windows). Just keep the folder size under the 2GB free limit.
For the future... OS X Yosemite Mail coming this fall, will offer a way to share files like DropBox.
Mail Drop allows you to attach large files via iCloud.
Attachments can be up to 5GB in size. -new feature in OS X 10.10 Yosemite Mail

  • IPhoto keeps reducing photo size when I crop (from 3MB to 500KB).  I want to keep the edited versions at the higher MB size!  Any help with this?

I've been using iPhoto for years with good success.  Recently, when I edit and crop artwork photos, it's been saving the cropped photo as a much smaller version, going from around 3MB to only 500KB or smaller.  I need the cropped version to be as big as the original.  Not sure why this is happening but could use some help in making it stop.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I know that I'm cropping the physical file but in the past this wasn't an issue for the size of the cropped piece.   Even if I take just a little bit away, the file size is somehow getting deeply reduced.  Resolution is still fine on the screen or for a quick email,  but for when I need to make a high quality giclee print for a client, the 500Kb size just won't do.  I need to retain the 2Mb original quality.  I'm attaching the examples here.  And thanks so much for helping !

  • Can't display PDF file larger than 2Mb

Would like to ask if someone knows that any setting that would allow the PDF file larger than 2Mb be displayed within web browser IE 7, for some strange reasons, the PDF file will stop download at arround 800 some Kb, and I waited for almost 15 minutes with no further action.
Back ground info:- MS Vista Home Premium SP1, 2G RAM, over 60G available HDD space, IE Temp file size set to 100M
    Appreciated for any help
    -David

Mike I have a similar problem with down loading PDF files larger that 3MB. I have three computers with Win XP, IE7 and 56K connection. I have tried to down load three different PDF files from the same source - 1.3MB 2.3MB and 5.3MB. The Computer with Reader 7.0 downloads and opens all files. The computers with Reader 8.1.2 and 9.0 downloads and opens the smaller files but stop at 3.2 MB on the larger file with an error message "The file is damaged and could not be repaired".
As fixes to the problem I have tried turning off any accelerators, installing and using Monzilla foxfire (then removed it since I had the same problem), increasing the cash size from 250MB to 1GB, Saving the file to the desktop rather than opening the file. I have not found useful help in Adobe Reader knowledge base.
    Any suggestions?

    welcome to the forum
all the resets and srops in connection have increased your noise margin to 11.2db whereas normal is about 6db resulting in your drop in connection speed.  this would normally recover automatically given a stable connection 24/7 for 3/5 days.
are you connected to the test socket?
try quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2 should be quiet no hiss/crackle and best done with corded phone  if cordless then dull hum normal

  • Broadband speed of 0.3Mb and yet BT wholesale test...

    Frustration at BT Broadband
For the past 10 months DSL was fine, a reasonably steady 3.5 Mb speed. Then for most of last week our BT Broadband connection seemed very slow indeed. Websites were sluginsh and the whole network was slow. A call to BT resulted in them claiming that the network performance was just perfect. Using the BT Wholesale DSL speed test resulted in a test to the router of 4.3Mb.
Then on Saturday the network ground to a halt. Websites would not load and the concept of using the BBC iPlayer for television was alien. After an hour of buffering the iPlayer had downloaded enough content for 6 seconds. Amusingly enough the test programme was the Great Invention series on Communication.
The BT Speedtest refuse to load let alone run. A swift call to BT confirmed a problem that would be rectified.
On Monday BT called to close the call as they regarded the fault as fixed. This is where things get interesting. The performance still seemed super slow, file transfers were taking a huge amount of time and video on YouTube impossible.
I have used two DSL testing sites for some time as well as an iPad app. These tests are run on a Dell PC running Win7 64Bit with 8GB of RAM, by most standards a reasonable to good PC connected to the BT router with Ethernet cable.
DSL reports showed 30K and then 134K. Speedtest.net. showed: 0.29 Meg. QIP Speed Test on an iPAD . recorded 0.3 Mg.
So in summary three different systems show a network speed of about 300K and yet BT claim this is a 4.2Mb connection.
    How can this be?

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem
