Log_checkpoint_interval
Hi guys,
In all my DBs I have configure in the init.ora the parameter log_chepoint_interval=14400 and I supposed that manual saids that value are in seconds.
This parameters force the archive the redo logs, Well I supposed that? or this equivalent to "alter system switch logfile"
Please anyboday Codul confirm this?
Att. Jesus Gutierrez
Ok,
But How can I automate the creation of the archive logs? becouse The other time I was have a problem with
recover until SCN,
I like to have one archive log for time or fills up, that occurs first. Have I to create a script or cron?

Dbwr & log_checkpoint_timeout / log_checkpoint_interval
found i am a bit confused about core database concept, see if anyone can help me to clarify,
my understanding is, reason for checkpoint is to get dbwr to write all dirty buffers in db cache to database files, so that database will not required to recovery during disaster, so that come the 2 parameter setting, log_checkpoint_timeout / log_checkpoint_interval, to get database regularly checkpoint.
while, isnt dbwr wake up every 3 seconds to flush out dirty buffers to database files? (or i am wrong in this respect?), should i am not wrong, then what is the point of having a checkpoint every 20-30 mins, when dbwr already are flushing out dirty buffers at every 3 seconds..
thanks for input.See the following thread - it may help.
Re: DBWR periodically writes - Oracle10g
There are many different types of of "checkpoint" in Oracle, as well as a feature called "incremental checkpointing". The 3-second incremental checkpoint thing came in in 8.1; the confusion you have is largely based on descriptions of the mechanisms from 8.0 and earlier.

What is the log_checkpoint_interval?
Hi
what is meant by :
log_checkpoint_interval
parameter in setting the 10g DB archivelog mode on unix ?
what does it depend on?
Thanks and regardsuser107654321 wrote:

Thanks and regardsWell, the replies that you have got. they haven't told you one important thing that from 10g, this parameter and its cousin, log_checkpoint_timeout are deprecated and secondly, there is NO relation of this parameter with the archiving. This parameter was introduced to control the checkpointing rate for the instance recovery.
For the description, you have got the links from the docs I guess.

Query about Log_Checkpoint_interval Parameter
What's the utility for Log_Checkpoint_interval ? Does it have any impact on performance of DB?
What kind of problems are you experiencing ?
Have a look at this note:
Checkpoint Tuning and Troubleshooting Guide [ID 147468.1]
LOG_CHECKPOINT_INTERVAL influences when a checkpoint occurs, which means
careful attention should be given to the setting of this parameter, keeping it
updated as the size of the redo log files is changed. The checkpoint
frequency is one of the factors which impacts the time required for the
database to recover from an unexpected failure. Longer intervals between
checkpoints mean that if the system crashes, more time will be needed for the
database to recover. Shorter checkpoint intervals mean that the database will
recover more quickly, at the expense of increased resource utilization during
the checkpoint operation.

Thanks for your help.
regards raitsarevoHi
I'm experienced any problem when our application run one transaction it becomes very slow, before it was speed and from yesterday it takes a lot of time to accomplish the transaction. That's why i analyze the problem with statspack and i've done also a trace. It's for my problem and for academic purpose too.

Yesterday, I did login to applications after multiple attempts and tried submitting a concurrent request of a standard report (after resolving the data block corrupt issue) and got the same ORA-00060 Error.
I have a fresh VISION R12 (12.0.4) installed without any customizations. My installation looks to be quite unstable, takes 2-3 attempts for successful login to apps.
Can you please give any clues on this and how to overcome the problem?
Thanks,
AmitI have run cmclean.sql as per :- Re: R12 Vision install - Unable to submit concurrent request
This is the only change made. No new patches etc. Before running cmclean.sql I believe the instance was working fine.
Now everytime I start the application services, its causing ORA=00060: Deadlock error. There are no issues with just DB services up and running.
And after apps services up, when trying to Login to apps it just hangs, get error as follows:

The OS also hangs (Linux) and I have to exit abnormally everytime which is frustrating.
I am not sure the reason for the same. I have gone through the metalink notes pointed which says to install the health check engine.
Do you have any clues based on above information as to what might be causing this problem.
I have 4 GB RAM installed on my Windows and 2 GB has been allocated to Linux on VMware.
Please let me know if I need to upgrade the memory.
Any pointers would be really helpful.
Thanks,

Help needed for hash_area_size setting for Datawarehouse environment
We have an Oracle 10g Datawarehousing environment , running on 3 - node RAC
with 16 GB RAM & 4 CPUs each and roughly we have 200 users and night jobs running on this D/W .
We find that query performance of all ETL Processes & joins are quite slow .
How much should we increase the value of hash_area_size parameter for this Datawarehouse environment ? This is a Production database, with Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.5.0.
We use OWB 10g Tool for this D/W and we need to change the hash_area_size to increase the performance of the ETL Processes.
This is the Oracle init parameter settings used, as shown below : -
Kindly suggest ,
Thanks & best regards ,

Database Initialization Parameters for Oracle Applications 11i
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=216205.1 -
Hi everybody!
I have a problem. Some weeks ago I opened a post related to this issue. We have two dataguards with dataguard broker. One of them is resync (thanks to mseberg and this forum) and now I have problems with the other.
Once I have learned how to configure and start/stop dataguard broker, I have a more basic problem, which is to resync it. I follow a process, where I backup the primary with RMAN, I copy the rman files to the other server with the controlfile, at once, I recover with rman again.
The problem is that it is too big, 2 hours for backing it up more or less, and when I restore it, no archivelog list appears being syncronized.
I have followed the same process than the other one and I can't resync it. I think there is something at my params or something new at 11g version...

Step started at Wed Oct 18 21:22:19 2006
Before beginning the upgrade, it is important that you backup your database.
Have you backed up your database (y/n)? [y]: y
Ask user for schema and database details
Enter the name of schema that you would like to upgrade [PORTAL]: portal
Enter the password for the schema that you would like to upgrade [portal]:
Enter the password for the SYS user of your database [CHANGE_ON_INSTALL]:
Enter the TNS connect string to connect to the database [ORCL]: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=portaldb.bizmatch.com.cn)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=IASDB.bizmatch.com.cn)))
Responses to the above questions will now be recorded in the file
upgrade.in. Placeholders are recorded instead of actual passwords,
for security reasons. If you wish, this file can be edited and used
as the standard input for a subsequent run of upgrade.pl.

Pre-Check Completed at Wed Oct 18 21:22:32 2006Hi,
Its good that u pasted the complete log file. In your environment you have to run this upgrade tool only once from any of the middle tier.
And with respect to your error that u got in precheck is quite simple. All u have to do is just run this script from by connecting to portal schema using sqlplus.
Run dropupg.sql
Location-------- /raid/product/OraHome_1/upgrade/temp/portal/prechktmp/dropupg.sql
Later you re-run the upgrade tool and let me know the status.
Good luck

I'll appreciete any help, cause I'm going crazy this is may be the 5th time that my installation stops on this stage.
Thanks in advanceHi Eric
These are values in init.ora:
#Transaction processing
#sort_area_size=524288
#Datawarehouse
sort_area_size=1048576
large_pool_size=1048576 #Transaction processing, Datawarehouse
db_cache_size=50331648 #Datawarehouse, Transaction processing
java_pool_size=67108864 #Datawarehouse, Transaction processing

#shared_pool_size = 52428800 # INITIAL
shared_pool_size = 67108864 # datewarehouse, transaction processing
log_checkpoint_interval = 10000
How I have to chenge the values?
And in init<SID> values are:
unit of shared_pool_size: bytes
unit of db_block_buffers: number of cached blocks
unit of log_buffer: bytes
shared_pool_size = 160903987
10% of shared_pool_size
shared_pool_reserved_size = 16090398
log_buffer = 1048576
Please, let me know what are the correct values?
Thank you in advance -
Failed Installation of Oracle8i on Red Hat Linux 7.0
Hi,
I have successfully installed Oracle8i(8.1.6) Enterprise edition on Red Hat Linux 7.0 but while running the Database Configuration Assistant, it stops at the database initialization portion. I suspect the initmig8i.ora file is causing the problem. I have followed the installation guide very closely and the SID is mig8i. What might be the problem causing it to stop? Now, I can't connect to database.

nullRichard,
It's a glib problem. 8i uses the glib 2.1 libraries, while RH7 uses the 2.2. There is a patch available from oracle support, or you can find a solution that has worked for me twice on the otn discussion forum.

ORA-04030: out of process memory when using Java Stored Procedures
Hello,
I have a problem using Java Stored Procedures in Oracle 10g.
My Java application performs http posts to a webservice and the response is parsed in order to populate some DB tables.
There is a scheduled job which calls the Java Stored Procedure every x minutes.
No matter of the 'x minutes' values - after about 160 - 200 calls I get this error:
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1048620 bytes (joxp heap,f:OldSpace)
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 2097196 bytes (joxp heap,f:OldSpace)
The job stops just while is posting the http request. The weird thing is that almost each time the first http post request I get this error:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused
at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method)
at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(PlainSocketImpl.java:305)
at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(PlainSocketImpl.java:171)

at org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpClient.executeMethod(HttpClient.java:397)
at org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpClient.executeMethod(HttpClient.java:323)
and the second try works fine.
So, The out of process memory occured each time just before getting such an error, and I suspect to be a connection between these errors.
Tech details:
1. OS: WinXP
2. Oracle 10.1.0.2.0
3. To perform http post I use HttpClient 3.1 from Apache.
4. I checked the http connection to be closed each time, and this is done.
5. I checked the oracle statement and connection to be closed each time and this is done
6. The JVM error (logged in .trc files of Oracle) is:

Can be a problem with JVM threading under Oracle ?The server prcess failed to allocate more memory for large objects ( in Oldspace).
If you Google ORA-04030, you will see several recommendations to work around this.
The Java VM in the database already has HttpClient, i don't know why you are loading the Apache HttpClient but this might not be the surce of the problem.

I have tweaked the shared memory max as suggested in Oracle Manual / SAP Installation Guide, to no avail.
The listener is up already.
When I logged in as user ORA<SID>, and go to svrmgrl > startup nomount pfile=init.ora, it can startup without hassle.
Although the Product is not supported in PAM, we have another machine running smoothly for years with this product combination, so it's not the product compatibility issues.
But when using R3SETUP -f DATABASE.R3S, the phase stopped with the log pasted above.
Any ideas, gurus?
Thanks for help.
Best Regards,Mr. Markus, there's no file on saptrace/usertrace.
To be sure, here's what I've done:
1. Run oracle listener.
2. Check connection with svrmgrl > connect internal (connected).
