"Log clip" doens't seem to work?

Am I the only person having problems using the Final Cut logging function?
FCP v4.5
I am capturing from a Sony DCR 105 camcorder via Firewire. What I want to do is run the tape and find out the start and end of thebits I want. I use the Mark In and Mark out keys, and the correct timecodes seem to appear. As soon as I hit Log, and confirm the clip name, the clip appears in my Project window, however it has forgotten the timecodes I marked and reverted some totally different start and end timecodes.
So I click on the media start or Media end column to manually change the data. But the thing is FCP won't let me change the numbers. I've tried changin just one digit, retyping the whole timecode as 8 digits, retyping the whole timecode even including the colons. Nothing seems to work. I've often had this problem and I 've always resorted to capturing as the tape plays but now I really want to fix the problem. Asnyone else ever had any problems with this simple task? TIA

Hi. Q: As you set the capture in/out points for a clip on your tape (in the log and capture window) are the timecodes correct at that point -- before you hit the log button? I wonder if you have taken the next step and captured a clip anyway -- and if so what media start/end info is indicated in the browser after the clip is captured. I guess the main thing is to determine if there is an issue with your camera's communication of timecode with FCP, or if there is something else going on within FCP itself.

It doesn't look like the clip is selected. Close the retime editor and click on the clip to make sure it's selected.

Hard Drive: The Hard Drive is on my camera (Sony Handycam)
Just needed some info on what is going on with your particular system.
Knowing the exact camera model will also assist us.
If this camera is standard AVCHD you should be able to connect with USB to Mac with FCE open and use Log and Transfer without all the fiddling around converting etc.
What FCE does during ingest is convert files to AIC. (Apple Intermediate Codec)
FCE cannot read the individual files in the BDMV folder, that's why all the converting is required when you use that method.
BTW: regards formatting drives/cards/memory on cameras; it is wise to use the actual device to format rather than a computer. This is a prime cause of read/write goof ups with solid state media. This applies to still or video cameras.
Keeping the COMPLETE card/memory structure in tact is vital for successful transfers.

While Logging Clips, "I" and "O" keys not working to mark clips

In FCP 5, I am logging clips
in Capture Window in order
to set up a Batch Capture
I am not able to mark the clips'
In and Out points using the
"I" and "O" keys
although I can by using the cursor
to click in the Logging Tab of
the Log and Capture Window
how do I use the Keys?

They might be working fine and you might not know it.
Mark i, play tape down mark o, hit log clip, give it a name and accept it and see what happens, if nada, write back.

Log clip function doesn't work

Trying to capture HDV footage. Everything was working fine and then at one point the "log clip" function just stopped working. I can see and hear the footage, I can control the camera, set in points and out points, basically everything but when I go to "log clip", nothing. It doesn't transfer to the bin. I can create a new folder from the capture window but I can not log the clip. I can not use the "Capture - Clip" button to capture each segment individually. If I use, "Capture - Now" when I hit escape, the clip has been digitized onto the hard drive, I see it, but it is not added to the bin. Thanks for any help offered.

Short of anything really odd, I'd trash my preferences.
Hopefully you've used FCPRescue before and have a good set of preferences you can revert to???? If not, google for FCP Rescue and use that to trash your preference files. They've got some cruff in them, I'm sure.

Flash Player Protected Mode provides a modern, sophisticated set of security protections that we see as critical in today's security landscape.

I've been having the same problem for days and just solved it. Tried going to Apple ID and had all the same problems you did in the second paragraph. I signed out with my current username on the ipad under settings--->store and signed back in with my oldest apple id and password. Now the apps don't ask for a password to upgrade. I too had a username that wasn't an email address and had to change to one that was at some point. That's what caused the problems. Hope this can work for you.

Clip inspector in imovie not working properly - when I select a picture (in project library) - and select clip adjustment it tells me that I need to select one or more clips to view Inspector tools and when I select a movie clip and then click on audio adjustments the audio adjustment appears as a speaker icon and I don't know how to get to the various audio options? It was working fine one minute and then I seemed to lose the functionality. Also editing a photo in a photo or getting rid of ken burns effect etc does not seem to work. help

I want pictures from each device in the cloud, but not on every other device. Possible? "iCloud Backup" alone doesn't seem to work....

My goal is to acheive 3 of the following things.:
Have all my apple devices sync pictures to the icloud *without* syncing the pictures on all the devices...so just one direction from device to cloud and not have all the devices insync from the cloud...... I don't want all the devices in sync, I just want the pictures protected in the cloud. To do this, I've tried to just turn on "icloud bacn-up" and not turn on "photo stream" to acheive this, but doesn't seem to work.
If #1 is possible, then I would like to sync the icloud with a folder on my PC using the icloud app for the PC. Not sure if I can have only the icloud PC sync and not have all the devices in sync?
If #1 and #2 could work, then I would sync the PC folder with my local storge.
end result would be all my photos save in the cloud and a safe copy my home in my local storage. I would have thought that most people would want to do this, but doens't seem so obvious to me as to how I can get it to work?
Any help would be appreicated.

You can't use iCloud as a safe place to store your photos when they are deleted from your devices. iCloud designed to stream photos to your devices, and to back up photos currently on your your devices as part of your iCloud backups. However, photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days, giving your devices enough time to download them. And if you delete a photo stream photo from any of your devices, it is also deleted from iCloud and from all of your devices. Furthermore, while camera roll photos are included in your backup, if you then delete the photos from your device and continue backing up, the backup containing the deleted photos will be overwritten by one that doesn't, and they will be lost.
If you want to save your photos, import them from the camera roll to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. Then you can delete them from your device.
If you would rather have a cloud-based place to store your photos, look into a service such as Dropbox.

Why does adobe cc never seem to work for me?

So a bit of back story, Ive been using adobe products for a while know adobe cs5, cs6 and cc
Ive never had any problem with cs5 and cs6 in the whole time ive used them, About 7-8 months ago i decided to finally upgrade to cc.
Ever since I got it ive had major problems all the time, main one being that it seems like i haven't finished the m adobe id profile? When ever i try to use one of my adobe apps like premiere it literally always either fails to sign in, or will sign in yet say that I dont have a sequence type which yo can only get by signing in (dslr video sequences)
Recently I decided to get a laptop which i put my second license on, It took ages to install and kept failing. Even on my laptop if im not connected to the internet it wont even let me log in, sometimes i am even connected and it still wont let me.
Its quite hard to explain all this so that's why its a bit vague but come on adobe? What the hell is the problem, ive tried some fixes but nothing seems to work? Stop asking me to update info when all of it is up to date and filled in...

Turns out it was an Adobe XI GPO assigned to the domain. Very strange as there were no settings within the GPO.
Disabled and all works fine.

Parental Controls doesn't seem to work as desired

I've read many threads on this topic, but no solutions that work for me yet. I've setup time limits for both kid's accounts. Initially, I thought they were working. However, after each account "timed out", and I allowed additional time using my admin ID (even 15 minutes extra), the time limits no longer seem to work, at least the bedtime login limits. At first, using exact same settings on each account, and AFTER bedtime, the first account that I had allowed extra time for (2 days ago!) allowed login after bedtime.
Next, I tried this on the second account, allowing only 15 minutes extra time. Now my son can login to that account after bedtime. Looks like I can't trust the bedtime controls.
I've disabled parental controls shut down, used command option PR to clear memory, still same problem
Has anyone been successful using parental controls, or do I just stop trusting it?!?

My daughter's time limits were restricted to 30 min per day only, however she found out that rebooting the Mac, 2 or 3 minutes before her time expired, allowed her to start again with a new 30 min session again... over and over.
Time limits file gets corrupted more often than expected, so I solved my issue with the time limits by recreating the file, as follows:
a) Login with your credentials, assuming your accounts has Full Admin rights.
b) Launch a 'Terminal' session. Mine was located at Finder -> Applications ->Utilities -> Terminal
c) Login as root using your credentials with the following command:

Changing Media Start and End of Logged Clips

This should be really simple, and I'm sure I'm just overlooking something. I am trying to recapture some clips in Final Cut Pro and it was fine until I came to a clip that gave me the "timecode error - pre roll, post roll, etc" message. The Media Start on the problematic clip is at 00:00:01:04 - I want to manually change this time to allow pre-roll. The timecode in the "In" and "Out" sections isn't making a difference and seems unrelated - no matter what I put it to.
So I just want to edit the Media Start time as I'm sure this would remedy my timecode error when trying to capture... but I can't edit that field. What am I doing wrong? How do I change the Media Start time?
I could recapture the whole tape independently but I already have sequences edited based on my previously logged clip. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you are re-capturing then you must have used Capture Now to get the clip first time round or you would have run into the same trouble with pre-roll. You'll have to capture the clip again using the same method. Of course, the chances of getting the same start and end code using Capture Now are slim, but if you can get in earlier and out later then you should be able to manually re-connect the clip.

Digitizing Pre-Logged Clips: Drop Frame/Non-Drop Frame Discrepency

I have about 100hrs of DV NTSC footage that has been logged and now I need to capture it.
Everything seemed good to go:
• I ctrl+click the clip intended to capture
• Select 'batch capture' (it initializes)
• Settings are (apple setting) DV NTSC 48kHz
• I click okay and I get an error message that reads:
"WARNING: You are about to capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip. If you proceed, you may experience changes in logged in and out points, problems relinking media, or removal of master clip relationships."
Now, the setting noted above is set at 29.97 not 30.
I tried to see if there was anything I could select/deselect in the logged clips and came up dry.
I made duplicated the apple setting and changed the fps to 30. This yielded no error message but did on the second clip I tried.
Does anyone have any idea on how I should be troubleshooting this?
Due to the high volume of footage, and workflow schedule, I'd really rather not screw this up.
I turn to you my faithful FCP gurus.

p.s. I'm running FCP v.5.1.4

Just check your timecode accuracy before you get any further... i.e. does the timecode in the captured clip match the code that's on the tape. If so, you're good to go on... if not, I'd recapture using the proper TC... it's pretty easy if you do it from the tape in the Log and Capture window.
