Log for Collaboration Instant Messaging
Hello All,
Our requirement here is to have Instant messaging enabled for all the users across the organization. We would like to find out if all the instant messaging sessions can be logged somewhere in the portal for audit purposes. If this is possible, then could you please let us know,
where the log files of all the sessions are stored in the Portal?

Hi Sunitha,
RTC does not enable the logging of the chat sessions.
The possibility of including this feature was discussed in the past, but, for different reason it was decided not to enable it.
In case this feature is developed in future versions,
a customer note will be published.

Collaboration - Instant Messaging
Hi,
I face an issue while trying to use Instant messaging with EP SP 11 Sneak Preview Edition. I have setup CLP and RTC Options in Default Framework page and when I tried to click on a contact from CLP and select option for "Send Instant Message" a window opens in minimized mode and hangs indefinitely there after.
I've tried restarting the server and I've also ensured that I'm sending the message to a user who is in online mode only.

The issue doesnt occur when I click on send button but it occurs when I select the "Send Instant Message" from context menu. A window comes up and always stays in minimized state.
However, I was able to solve this on my own. (May sound silly, but the issue got resolved once I moved the ToolArea iView of Default Framework Page to second place )

Collaboration instant messaging for Online Customer chat
Hi Experts,
We have the following requirement in portal.
Portal has to be exposed to internet and customers of the organization should be able to use the portal and chat with the employees who are currently logged in portal. This chat conversation should also be saved - either in portal KM or exported to a file or both.
I'm thinking of using Portal Collaboration's Instant Messaging feature for this, but not sure whether it will be enabled for anonymous users accessing portal from outside.
Please clarify and also pour in your ideas on the possible ways to achive this requirement in portal.

Portal Collaboration feature can be utilized. Along with that you can also explore using third party collaboration tools

Problem with the Collaboration Instant messaging

When a user is trying to send a message in the Collaboration Launch pad under instant message instead of the user name we get another name. Can anyone please tell me the solution.

Skype 7.10 for mac instant messaging bugs
i updated to the newest version of skype on my iPhone and on my MacBook and now the devices are not syncing up with instant messaging. i'm also getting pending sent messages on my MacBook. wishing i did not update. ideas?

Sign out of your account on both Mobile Device and mac (desktop) skype apps.Delete the app on your phoneDelete the app on your mac (use something like AppCleaner - It removes all files assiciated to the app)Leave it for 15 mins Redownload and istall your appssign in on mac FIRSTsign in on mobile device Thats what worked for me Good luck

Turning off logging for failed sync messages too

I was looking if we can turn off the looging of sync messages even if the message has failed
if someone knows how to do that please let me knwo.

By default the logging / saving up of Synch messages in the Database of XI is turned off. This is done to save memory space. But, if needed they can be truned on and the parameter LOGGING_SYNC is used for that.
Likewise Trace_Level is used to set the trace level of your messages in MONI. If tace_level is 3 all steps are logged in MONI and this fills up the DB drastically. it should be used only for debugging purposes to understand the error / issue better.
Trace_LEVEL should be set to 1 on a production system to make sure only limited logging of messages / steps happens in MONI.

Instant Messaging - EP 6.0.2.3.7
I have installed:
EP 6.0 Service pack 2 Patch level 3 Hotfix 7 (6.0.2.3.7)
WebAS 6.20
J2EE Engine patch level 25
On the following system:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Service pack 3
Pentium III 1400 Mhz
2 Gb RAM
During the installation I faced no error messages and the implementation runs without error logs. Unfortunately, the instant messaging does not work. I see the CLP, but the "auto-detect status" is malfunctioning. Online users are shown as offline. Trying to send an instant message there is happening nothing. I did the configurations for the instant messaging as described at help.sap.com:
1) Displaying the Collaboration Link in the Portal Header Area: OK
2) Configuring Collaboration Services in Collaboration Launch Pad: OK
3) Activating the RTC Session Manager: OK
4) Configure the Groupware Framework: Is Not Used and therefore not configured
5) Configure the Synchronous Collaboration Framework: OK
6) Configure Real-Time Collaboration:

Can not start Instant Message: The user has no SIP Address configured

Please provide your valuable suggestions in order to fix the error in collaboration Instant Messaging. We have configured collaborations chat in development system (EP 7.3 SP4) and added the required custom UME attribute named "sip" in System Administrator > System Config > UME Config > User Admin UI tab.
"com.sap.security.core.usermanagement:sip" value is assigned to below attributes under Custom attributes of the user profile property:-

User-Managed Custom Attributes
Portal users are stored in ABAP and no customizations are done through code for implementing collaboration chat.Hi,
I believe you require SAP_XI_DEVELOPER role for this activity.
If providing this authorisation is not possible, then you can use super id-PISUPER for this testing.

Instant Messaging - Why is going through Google chat?

I have upgraded to mountain lion on both my imac and macbook pro. I logged into the instant messaging today and I signed in with my apple ID, but then it used google chat to talk to people? I have anoher mac user who messages me and she said she uses it through the mac network. Im confused?
When I logged out of gmail. I went back to the chat and I couldnt chat anymore

On first run Messages asks you for an Apple ID.
It does not have to be linked to iCloud.
However it does generally mean you could be using an @mac.com @me.com or @icloud.com that is linked to iCloud.
As Apple IDs with these endings are also Valid AIM Screen Names you can use the Messages > Preferences > Accounts pane > + icon under the list to Add them as AIM names.
(1 Name 2 services)
If your Apple ID is an external email such as GoogleMail one then it too can be an Active Jabber ID is Messages (if you enable "Talk" on your Account settings at Google).
Potentially again 1 name 2 services.
Of course as some of these are emails they appear in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars and can be Enabled for Messages there.
However deleting an Account in Messages (Hit the - icon in the accounts list fro anything other than the iMesssages or Bonjour one) should "deactivate" it in the Mail, Contacts and Calendars pane. (As should just unticking the "Enable this Account box").
So....
Your Apple ID can be used for iMessages.
It may also be able to be the Name or ID for another service as well.
Accounts should be able to be Disabled in both the app (Preferences > Accounts) and in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars.
If you have an Apple ID that you then linked to iCloud like I did you may have the following:-
An external email that is the original Apple ID that allows access to your iCloud stuff.
An @me.com name that your were given at the initial launch of iCloud
And a Later @icloud.com one as well.
All three with the set password allow access to iCloud.
For iMessages they are separate IDs (it will try to link them like crazy if you have a second iPhone like I do and want to keep them separate)
For AIM they are considered as separate IDs.
Aside from making sure you understand the names and IDs that can be used with which services there odd occasions that are reported when the App will list telephone numbers Only and tell all existing chats lists in the main window are Bonjour Chats as you cycle through all of them.
Other people have reported loss of Names in the Chat listing and one particular service being listed at the "service" that it will be on. (I have seen threads list AIM and Jabber).
The "Bonjour" chat ones seems to be solved by doing a PRAM reset
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
The others seem to be linked to the Contacts App not list a My Card.
Your Details should appear at the My Card (Head and Shoulders icon)
If they do not use the Card Menu in the Contacts app to reset it.

I'm looking for a method to parse the CCM 2012 R2's UpdatesDeployment.log for:
The string Message Received
The datestamp of item 1
My powershell script kicks off the TriggerSchedule for the Software Deployment Evaluation scan and I am looking for a method to match conditions 1,2 above to determine the TriggerSchedule was successfully started.
Right now I'm using this code which doesn't seem to accurately capture the successful start or failure to start the TriggerSchedule.
I really appreciate the assistance. I've spent hours looking up Select-String but haven't found the solution.

Does anybody know a good tutorial for developing instant messaging programs?Or has anybody developed a similiar program like MIRC using java?

Yahoo Instant Message Indicator
I have a Yahoo Instant Message indicator (smiley face with the # 1 beside it) shows at the top of the screen along side of where other indicators appear such as new email, text message, voicemail - I'm thinking this is an indicator for Yahoo instant message. I only used the instant message in the browser and on my desktop. Although I have no active messages this indicator still appears ... how do I get rid of it??

It indicates a message or notification in the BlackBerry Messenger application.
Open Blackberry instant messenger and there should be a message there. -
Collaboration - how to reduce response time for Instant Messaging
Hello Experts,
I have enabled Collaboration link in the masthead of Ajax Framework Page by following the steps mentioned in the link Activating the Link for Launching the Collaboration Launch Pad.
I then activated services for real time collaboration in Ajax Framework Page referring to the link Activating Services for Real-Time Collaboration.
Following this I activated synchronous collaboration service types with the help of Activating Synchronous Collaboration Service Types.
In addition to the above steps I also followed this thread (Standard Services Instant Messaging Doesn't Work - Portal 7.3) and did the below changes in PCD Inspector:
# Browse into: portal_content -> every_user -> general -> frameworkpage
# Open com.sap.portal.toolAreaiView with option "PropEditor"
# Select the property: "EnableRtcSessionManager"
# Select the link "edit" Change the property value to "true"
On doing the above configurations I am able to open Collaboration Launchpad and send Instant Messages to users in my Contacts.
However what I have observed is that when I open an Instant Messaging window and type in some message and send it to a user, it takes between 70-90 seconds for the message to appear on the user's system, which is quite a long time considering it is an instant message. Is this normal behavior for instant messaging? Are there any other parameters/configurations that can be done to reduce this time taken for instant messages to get sent between users?
We are running NW 7.30 SP09 portal.
