Log in and other strange problems

I have run this computer since '03 with no problems. I am using 10.3.9. At start up, I started hanging on the blue screen. I discovered if I disconnect my ethernet line to the internet, I was starting just fine. This is still basically the situation. I have run permissions and disk utility as well as single user repairs. No real problems found. Soon after this problem, another one creeps in - if I try to move a window, I get latent images of the window all across the screen - and it has now started freezing on me.
Without more lengthy explanations, does anyone have a clue?
Thanks in advance,
Gary

Hello! Several things such as if the system prefs might be set to look for a network disk at startup and an internet line that may be flakey or the disk drive directory being corrupt. I've recently been affected with a flakey dsl line and noticed that it was slowing down when it started network services. The telephone company said their line signal was good and strong so it wasn't there problem. I kept trying to tinker with my settings but finally gave up and finally after a month it's settled down. Diskwarrior is a must have Mac utility for directory structure maintenance. Tom

    HI,
Creating a new user with the username test still receives the same treatment.
In the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences - Advanced. Click: Change Settings. That will prompt the System Preferences / Network pane.
Make sure none of the boxes on the left under: *Select a proxy server to configure* are not selected.
If proxies aren't the issue, and it's the same in all accounts, boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility to verify and if necessary, repair any errors on the startup disk, help here for that.

  • I'm affraid I lost my "Word" document of 30 pages. I can see only stars, squares and other strange figures. How can I recover this? Please I need help!!!

I need help! My daughter is busy with her final studyprogram. Her "word" document changed into stars and other strange figures. Is there a possibility to recover this. I hope someone can help her!!!! thanks jvdharst

Are you using the latest version of MS Word?  It’s possible you can restore the corrupt file from the last saved version or the automatically saved version.  Have you tried that?  MS Word uses a folder called Autorecover to store temporary versions of your file.  Hopefully there’s a good version in that folder.  Use Finder to search for Autorecover if needed.

  • Computer slower and a few other strange problems since upgrading to SL

    Hi all,
About a month ago, I upgraded my mid-2009 MBP to SL. I'm now on 10.6.1. Ever since the upgrade, my computer's been somewhat slower than it was when I ran Leopard (although many people I know say their machines are faster). I did restart several times at one point, and that seemed to speed it up, although it still experiences delays I didn't have before. I've also had a bunch of strange issues:
    1) Safari is most noticeably slow, especially when using something like Top Sites on Safari 4. I alleviated this problem somewhat by setting new tabs to open a blank window rather than Top Sites, but even so, Safari is generally slower, gives me 'pinwheels' often, and also is less stable.
    2) The other day, I restarted to find that all fonts except system fonts had been mysteriously deactivated. As a designer, I rely heavily on my many fonts, which I manage using Linotype FontExplorer.
    3) Today, I opened my computer up after having it sleeping in a backpack, and it had turned off. It was not out of battery; it had just turned off for no apparent reason.
    4) Judging by Activity Monitor, RAM is being used somewhat more heavily by the system, contrary to the advertisements of a 'lighter' footprint for SL as compared to Leopard. However, according to Activity Monitor (which I check frequently), the processor does not appear to be getting taxed any more heavily than under Leopard, which makes the sluggishness more inexplicable.
    5) Yesterday, I could not get my computer to recognize my Time Machine backup disc. After restarting, it worked, but this is a pain.
I appreciate any advice I can get. Does anyone else have similar problems or solutions? Or is the general consensus that these are SL bugs that Apple will work out by about 10.6.4 or so?
    Thanks,
    Nathan

I began this thread awhile ago, but the essence of it is that I had a number of strange problems, although mostly my computer was just slower, when upgrading from Leo to SL.
I've now wiped my HD and re-installed SL. It seems faster, although there are still a few issues:
    1) iWork (Pages, Numbers) has very weird coloring. All the text looks light blue and/or cyan, and I can't fix it.
    2) Although initially Safari worked great, lately it's been going back to its habits of being slow and showing strange things like chopping up the 'Top Sites' view, i.e. rendering it in an off way.
    3) Adobe CS3 will not install properly. I get them loaded up, but when I try to launch a program, I get an error that says "licensing for this product has stopped working". I cannot get to the 'activate' page, even though I uninstalled and deactivated CS3.
In the interest of full disclosure, I did restore my home account after clean installing SL-- maybe I should have brought the files over folder by folder rather than bringing back my whole home folder with its settings? I wonder if I accidentally brought over Adobe's FLEXnet folder too.
Also, does anyone know if Adobe CS3 can cause these problems with Safari and other programs? It just seems that the whole machine was slower after installing CS3, even though I wasn't running the programs.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • 10.4.10 update and very strange problem with Mac Mini

    Dear All,
I have just updated my Mac Mini Intel and I am having a strange problem.
My Mac Mini has problems booting up. Sometimes I get through the login screen as normal but my wallpaper shows and there are no desktop icons, no dock, no top of screen finder menu bar. Some other times I get stuck in the progress bar of the booting up.
I tried to run utilities from install disk and there were no problems detected.
The VERY STRANGE thing is that several times now as I put my fingertip onto the power button laying it on the button but not pressing it yet (because I would like to shut down the system), the system kicks in and becomes unfrozen!!!
Someone in the 123macmini.com forum says that this problem is related to the airport receiver which is near the power button.
What do you think about it???
MacBook and MacMini   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

ok, I have found a kind of fix for the problem, although may run a hardware test to check something!.
I unplugged all USB and Firewire devices, I turned off Bluetooth and Airport, reinstalled the 10.4.10 combo update, when it restarted the starting mac osx screen took barely a second or 2 to load (my comment above is becuase from when I first got it on Sunday I noticed it was slow to boot up, also noticed that the screen resoulution I have set does not kick in until I log on, although this may be becuase this mac mini is an intel one). The computer booted up very quickly and I tuend on bluetooth and airport with no issues and plugged all the usb and fireware devices back in. I again turned the airport off and restarted and again it booted up very quickly logged on and swithced the airport back on. I decided to reboot with the sirport on and it got stuck at the end of the os x starting up screen, I waited a few mins switched it off and on again and it booted up fine although slower. I dont mind turning the airport off when I power down as the mac usually stays on anyway. I assume Apple will release a fix for this as a lot of people seem to have the problem so think I will stay put with this for the time being. It was taking a several goes to get to the login screen before but usually got there every few boots.

  • G5 locks up when logging out and other concern

This has become a problem over the past year. I know that it is an old single processor, first of the Power Macs, legacy machine and OS. I have gone through all various check system/disk evolutions with Apple and TechTool Utilities.
Also, when I have a software glitch, I can never get the Send To Apple report to "send". I get a message that reads something along the line of 'not being able to connect to Apple'. Why, the legacy problem again? If so, I am suprized that I get iTunes and Safari updates.

I don't think it has anything to do with it being a "legacy" Mac.  I have a Power Mac G5, running Leopard, and it runs quite well.
Locking up when logging out is usually caused by a process that is running and the OS is not able to quit it.  It may be related to an app, or it may be a background process.  If you restart (or log out and log in) and then immediately log out, does it lock up?
As a test, you can try creating a new user account in System Preferences Accounts pane.  Log out of your usual account and log in to the new account.  Do some things you normally do, then try logging out.  Does it lock up?

  • "No Sound Blaster card detected.." and other driver problem SOLUTION

Hi. I promised to myself that I wont give up and I looked for a solution to all SB Li've! 5. OEM (0220 and others) problem not detecting the card by the new drivers ! AND HERE IT IS !! I tested it and works almost PERFECTLY !!! Also for peaple who HAVE the original drivers but have problem with EAX in such games like GTA San Andreas THIS IS THE SOLUTION FOR YOU !! I hope creative doesn't mind me posting this:http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/Enter here and download the drivers !! TRY IT !! Any questions please write ! Sory but i think this is important inough to start a new topic.. Hell yeah now I can play San Andreas even when it's raining (in game ofkozz :P) ... Oh and PS. For Win XP users read this first : http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/xp.php?language=en I used the second method (on the bottom of the page) Renaming the files and installing normally. You will be asked to insert the winXP CD couse it wont be able to find some files but you can just SEARCH for them on the system and you can find them (In c:\windows\system32 and system32\drivers). Then after reboot you go to Device Manager and update drivers for Sound Blaster Li've Series (or Multimedia audio device) mark "Don't look for drivers.." And choose KX from the list. Thats all I thinkPs 2 - set the mixer for your card couse basically it's set for 5. dolby surround. If you have 2 Speakers or headphones do this: run the KX mixer (tray) and click Speaker setting (the icon with "?") set it to 2. and in Surround set COPY. Then mark the "Use subwoofer output" and "Use bass redirection". Everything should work well. There I think I helped :PMessage Edited by Cubix on 07-09-2005 08:26 PM

Gee, I think it's catching on. I was VERY dissapointed when I wasted my money on the SB Li've! 24bit PCI. That card apparently isn't a Li've! card, it's got a different chipset. It performs horribly with games and there are no other drivers to use for it. Not even the Audigy 2 hack and the kX audo project will work with it. This is like the **bleep** child of all Sound Blasters. No support, no reasonable performance, and horrible drivers. I just joined this forum today and this is the 5th topic related to SB Li've! 24 bit issues that I've seen yet. And what does creative take into initiati've about it's Nothing. They ignore us and expect us to pay 20+ dollars US on an Audigy 2 ZS.Message Edited by BoRaiChu on -03-2005 07:33 PM

  • Is the disk equal to log files and other questions?

In the web page http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/GettingStartedGuide/introduction.html#dplfeatures, there is a statement, " The checkpointer is responsible for flushing database data to *disk* that was written to cache as the result of a transaction commit ".
I wonder if the disk here means log files under the JE home directory.
From my understanding of these documents and other web resources, the check pointer is to write records in Cache to Log files (disk), and then cleaner is to reorganize and then to remove unused log files. For the records in a Cache, they are brought from disk to Cache by querying the index organized in a B-Tree structure, and the In-Compressor is to delete some empty internal nodes of B-Tree.
I wonder if the above is right to describe relations among these components, check pointer, cleaner, B-Tree and In-Compressor.
    Thanks for your help!
    Best,
    Jiangfan

I believe it's because Windows which don't have a visible parent frame are, by default, not focusable. Therefore they're never activated or focused.
For the window to become focusable it needs a visible parent. Have a look at Window.isFocusableWindow method's Javadoc for information about how this works.
There's also no point trying to force the window to be focusable using setFocusableWindowState - it still won't work without the visible parent frame.
What's the problem with JPopupMenu? It seems unlikely that you'll write something better than that.
Alternatively, you could try using an undecorated JDialog. Personally, I'd try resolving your differences with JPopupMenu!
    Hope this helps.

  • Dock problems bright dot showing open apps missing and other strangeness

This is on a an early MacPro: see end of msg for spec.
After installing the 10.6.2 upgrade my dock as been behaving oddly: the bright spot showing that an application in the dock is active is only seen under the finder application. and right clicking on the icon of a running application shows only 'open' and 'options' as choices (no quit).
Right clicking on the Finder application shows "Application not responding" and restarting the finder in force quit has no effect (note the finder is not shown as non responsive in the force quit app)
launching an application that is not in the dock does not cause its icon to show up in the dock.
I attempted to rerun the 10.6.2 updater but of course it reports that it is already installed
Otherwise the computer seems to be running normally and yesterday I did the LED Cinema Firmware update with out a problem (I am so dumb I did not even know it had an iSight camera and was still using my old Firewire iSight)
    What do I try next

of these only com.apple.loginwindow.plist shows that it was modified at the time I changed user and back.
DO NOT touch those files. you are looking in the wrong library. every user has its own home directory in /Users. you can get to it by clicking on the house icon in the sidebar or by going to Hard drive->Users. by default only the current user has write access to its home directory. as an admin user you can give yourself right to other users home directories but there is normally no need to do this and it's not the default.
the dock preference file in the other user has nothing to do with the dock preference file in your main user. I don't know why rebooting didn't help but logging in as another user did. I asked you to log in as another user because it would have a clean dock preference file so if the problem was with the preference file corruption for the main user it will be immediately clear.
so, log in as the main user, click on the house icon in the sidebar of any finder window and go to Library->preferences. com.apple.dock.plist is there. you can delete it or move it to the desktop and log out/in. that will recreate that preference file from scratch with default settings and clear any corruption it may have had.

  • Lost all previously sync'd emails and other strange things.....

Yesterday I noticed some odd things on my BB and was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.
    1.  When I went into my phone to make a call around mid-day, the typical call log file was empty - first strange thing.
    2.  After I sent an SMS it was in listed in my mail as a sent message but then it would disappear from view.  The users received the message but my record of it disappeared without me deleting it.
    3.  I lost all previously sync'd emails from my corporate email before 4:56 PM yesterday.  Although emails from my comcast account which I sync still appeared.
    4.  When I looked at available memory it was 0% and then it slowly crept up to 14038765 bytes
Based on number 4 above, am I to assume my BB dumped items due to a memory issue?
Understanding that  can be the case I am still losing records of IM's received and sent without me deleting them.
Any thoughts from the forum members are welcome.
Lastly - what does Theme Controlled mean under General Options/ SMS and Email Inboxes?
    Have a nice day -

Grapechic, this probably has to do with your device memory. Please see the article below (pulled from the support page on blackberry.com).
Call and SMS logs disappear when BlackBerry smartphone is low on memory
    Doc ID : KB11570
    Last Modified : 2007-05-17
    Document Type : Support
    Environment
    BlackBerry® smartphone
    BlackBerry Device Software 4.2
ProblemWhen the BlackBerry smartphone is low on memory, Short Message Service (SMS) logs and call logs disappear.
CauseWhen the BlackBerry smartphone becomes critically low on memory, SMS messages and call logs will automatically be deleted in order to keep a minimum amount of free space available. This functionality is by design.
ResolutionIf the BlackBerry smartphone becomes low on memory, try the following:
Check how much memory is currently available. See KB04353 for further information.
Ensure that media is saved on the media card, and not on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Since web browsing results in cached files on the BlackBerry smartphone try clearing the browser cache. See KB03865 for further information.
Lower the reserved picture memory setting. See KB12383 for further information.
Use the application loader tool to remove any unused applications, such as themes, ring tones, or third-party applications.
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. Check the available memory after the hard reset. See KB02141 for further information.
If the issue still persists, perform the following, checking the available memory after each step.
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions see KB02141. Then clear unnecessary calls logs and phone messages.
Remove Phone Call and SMS log databases from the BlackBerry smartphone. See KB03974 for further information.
Perform an application load to erase all applications and install the latest BlackBerry Device Software. See KB03621 for further information.

  • Mail not getting all messages from server and other strange behavior

    Hello All,
Mail has been doing some odd things for me of late (at least the last week) and I'm lost for a solution to my problem. As far as I can tell, perhaps my Prefs. have become corrupted, or at least something in relation to Mail has become corrupted. Perhaps someone has a solution to this issue before I have to back it all up and NUKE the whole **** app to get back up and running properly.
The main issue I appear to be having is that Mail is not getting all of my Mail messages from my server. I can log into my web-mail interface provided by my domain host and can see there that there are many e-mails that don't appear to be coming down the pipe to the Mail.app client. I'm getting some e-mail's but not all....
*Here are all the things that I've checked:*
    • The missing e-mails are not being picked up as Junk and are not in the Junk folder
    • I have done a search within Mail for the missing e-mail's and nothing turns up anywhere.
    • I have checked on the server end that I'm not maxing out my InBox or that there are any other service issues from my domain host provider.
    • I have been into Prefs and checked my account settings - most (see below) of which appear to be as normal and are fine.
*Here are the weird things that I've noticed:*
    • When I went into the Prefs. for the account in question, I noticed that my login had changed. For example - it usually it is "[email protected]", however it had seemed to have changed to just "johndoe" - I know this wasn't me as my domain host will not allow me to access any mail unless the login is the full mail address.
    • In RULES, every rule I double click to check on seems mostly fine, apart from the fact that every "Account is:" the pull down menu just appears as blank. Usually it says "Account is: ([email protected])"
It's there last 2 items that make me think something is corrupted - so I guess my question is, what pref or file has corrupted and how can I fix it without having to give Mail.app a digital enema?
Any assistance would be most helpful - missing some but not all your incoming e-mail messages is quite annoying, as you can guess...!
    Thanks,
    Boz

    Hello Boz.
This appears to be a rules issue. Mail is almost certainly downloading those messages, but they’re probably being processed by your rules in an unexpected way — given the information you’ve provided, maybe because there is something wrong with the file where the account settings are stored.
Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
    <hr>
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Write down your Mail > Preferences > Accounts settings or take screen shots of them.
    2. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the Mail folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    5. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this solves the problem). If you have a backup of your data that includes a working copy of this file, you may try restoring it from the backup to avoid steps 6-8.
    6. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
    7. You’ll have to re-configure some of your Mail > Preferences settings. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
    9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
    <hr>
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Mail app keeps crashing (and other related problems)

A few days ago, my Mail app began crashing on seemingly unrelated events, so I assume my data got corrupted. I won't explain all the scenarios because it's a complete mess. To keep it simple, I have only 2 accounts and they are both on Gmail, so no backups are needed. I'd like to try doing a complete wipe of all data that the Mail app uses and that should fix it.
What files/folders does Mail use? So far, I've found:
    ~/Library/Mail
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
I've also seen someone mention ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, but I don't have this file.
After deleting the above and creating my mail accounts, the crashes are back. The only possibilities I can think of are:
    1. I haven't deleted EVERYTHING owned by Mail yet. <-- What other files/folders belong to the Mail app?
    2. Mail is depending on something else on my system that is broken.
    3. Mail app itself somehow became corrupted.
    4. Something being synced from my Gmail is not properly being handled, resulting in a crash.
When this started happening (if it helps):
1 day after installing the OS X update 10.8.3 as well as MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update v1.1, my MBP froze as soon as I loaded League of Legends. This was followed by a reboot as I couldn't Cmd+Tab out of the game. I wasn't aware of the Force Close App shortcut at the time, so I used the power button. That was the only time this happened, and it has worked fine a few times after the updates were applied and also worked after the reboot following the freeze. Since that time, I have encountered another issue where just about all of my apps crashed simultaneously -- no 3D-accelerated apps were even running this time.
Since then, I've updated VirtualBox from 4.2.8 to 4.2.10 (seemed like something that could cause this weirdness as I always have a VM running) and have not had any problems except Mail crashing all the time.
This question is primarily about fully resetting the Mail app to clean settings/data, but any thoughts on what may have happened are also welcome

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • RV042G Log Email and other issues

The RV042G manual said to use this site for support so here goes.  After owning and operating the RV082 for many years, I recently upgraded to the RV042G V01.  Overall the RV042G hardware appears to function pretty good.  The RV042G has faster throughput, but it is slightly slower in command/control response and boot than the RV082.  I have now owned the RV042G about two days and have found a number of issues.  Specifically, emailing logs doesn't work.
    - Emailing logs does not work.  RV042G does not appear to handle any type of connection authentication, it does not have a place for the senders user name or password.  I have tried SMTP servers that require no authentication and ones that do, none of them work.  RV082 worked fine with the Time Warner Cable (TWC) SMTP server, RV042G does not.  Additionally, there is NO output in the logs to show a failure.  So TWO bugs here.  I have checked settings to ensure no blocking rules, have rebooted, and even did a factory default with no luck and absolutely no mention in the logs anywhere of failure to send.
Email is my primary issue, any suggestions on getting this working would be appreciated.  I've also identified a number of other issues as well and included them here to avoid multiple posts.  These are:
    - Port 0 apparently responds to interrogation and shows CLOSED (not STEALTH per grc.com).  This was NOT the case for the RV082 and is a potential security vulnerability as it cannot be redirected.
    - Port 1 is CLOSED and apparently responds to interrogation.  This was NOT the case for the RV082.  Normally I would be good on the RV082.  I could redirect any OPEN or CLOSED ports to the bit bucket (192.168.1.254 for instance).  BUT, the RV042G Port Forwarding is NOT sending things to the bit bucket and instead decides to OVERRIDE the forwarding and respond to queries.  So there are TWO bugs here.  This is a potential security vulnerability.
    - The ALL Logs tab shows nothing, but sub tabs do until AFTER you hit the clear button, then it works as expected. This happens every time you open the logs.  Another poster identified this problem so this is confirmation of that issue.  Also, once the dialog box for the log has closed, it will not open again until leaving the page and returning.
    - Authentication failures will show up in the System Log but not in the Access Log?
    - HTTPS html interface works fine in Firefox.  However, turn it off and use just HTTP and there is a problem.  Can't see the forms and buttons, can only see the background image.  This isn't as much of a problem as I can just use HTTPS, however, with the RV082 when HTTPS was activated it would open the remote management portal regardless of whether the button was clicked or not. So really a non-issue but a bug none the less.
    - RV082 could send 500 log events, RV042 can only send 100. Again, not a bug but a reduction in capability over the older RV082.
One last thing, your hardware version control numbers and firmware download page are confusing for the RV042G V01.  Found this when I checked if there was a newer version of the firmware than what the RV042G shipped with.  Here is what the firmware update page shows:
"Cisco RV042G Dual Gigabit WAN VPN Router"
         "Firmware Release 4.2.1.02 - RV042, RV082, RV016 firmware 4.2.1.02-tm (V3 hardware required)".
The problem is that you reset the hardware version in the RV042G (V01).  Just seems probable that someone will download the firmware for the RV042 V01 and try to put it on the RV042G V01.
I like the RV042G overall and will wait for updates for these issues (email logs would be nice sooner rather than later as this is an advertised feature).  The RV082 was a great router for a long time ONCE most of the bugs were fixed, hoping the RV042G will be the same.

Guess I spoke too soon.  If Remote Management = Disable and HTTPS = Enable, it will OPEN external access to port 443.  So have to use an access rule to kill it off.  Can STEALTH Port 1 as well with an access rule but have to block all traffic there.  Cannot block Port 0 (make it STEALTH) with an access rule and this needs to be fixed in firmware.
So port forwarding does work but not when sent to the bit bucket, have to use an Access Rule instead.  (You can see this by doing the following: turn off HTTPS and remote management and look at port 443 from the outside of the firewall.  No response at all.  Now enable HTTPS and keep Remote Management disabled and forward port 443 to an unused internal IP address.  The port still shows up as OPEN but won't connect.  Again, the RV082 did not exhibit this behavoir and would simply not provide any response to an external query if forwarded to an unused internal IP address.)
    For clarity, I have the RV042G V01 with Firmware Version :   v4.2.1.02 (Jan 18 2012 14:10:55).

  • Infinite Incoming Messages and other Strange things...

I am currently experiencing an issue where Mac OS X Mail shows that there are "Incoming Messages... 10 of 25", However, the 'downloading bar' hasn't budged for the last few days, and I have received no incoming messages. This issue has just suddenly occurred one morning when I woke up and I can find no cause for it yet. It is definitely not a problem with anything other than Mail.app as my iPod Touch is receiving the emails fine on the same WiFi connection. I have tried everything including restarts to fix the problem, and so far nothing has worked. Something even stranger, is that another account in Mail is receiving emails, but delayed by several hours behind my iPod Touch.
And stranger still, whilst I say I have been receiving no messages, I have actually been receiving one.... over and over and over again... it's now reached 15 times. Exactly the same email, same 'Date Received', same everything. So I don't want my mailbox filled up with the same duplicate email so I select them all and hit delete. Gone... However, if I click in another part of Mail and then come back to my inbox... Gasp! All of my duplicate emails have mysteriously re-appeared from the garbage So I thought I'd try deleting another random email, but the same thing happened... it had soon come back from the dead and popped back into my Inbox.
So I've done all of the obvious things like Quit Mail, and restart the computer, but nothing has worked so far. And one more odd thing... Each time I re-open Mail another one of those duplicate emails arrives.
If anyone has any ideas what so ever on what could be causing this issue or ways I could fix it, I'd love to hear them and would appreciate any responses.
Thanks a lot and I look forward to any posts.
    Cheers,
    Cuby

I am having pretty much the same problem. Every time I start mail it downloads the same emails over again and gets stuck on 56 of 199. I have tried deleting the cache, but that didn't help.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Craig
