Log-in as "Invisible"

Hi everyone! Just a quick question: does anyone know if there is any way to log in with status automatically set to "invisible"? I can't seem to find a preference setting for this.
Thanks, Andrew

Hi Mike
Thanks for the answer. I hadn't even tried that option, because I thought it would always log me in as "available" ... but you're right, it seems to remember the last setting. Not really the intuitive solution I had been looking for, but it works! I thought they would have a preference setting with something like "at user login, set my status to …" with a pop-up menu choice of various options. I still wish there was in fact that kind of setup, but hey, the current approach works once your realize what it's doing.
Thanks again
Andrew

  • Not showing user online, yet shows me when they logged off

    When I hover over one of the screen names in my "offline" list, it shows me how long ago they logged off, yet I didn't see them online. I'm wondering if this means they blocked me, or if they were just logged on as invisible. It just seems odd that it would show me how long ago they logged off if I was blocked. Someone please ease my paranoia.

    Hi,
    Off Line Buddies (greyed out) ones show me nothing other than Scree Name if I have a real name in Leopard and Snow Leopard. (and a larger Buddy Pic)
    Away Buddies do show on some if they have gone Idle (No Keyboard/mouse input to computer) as well as Away.
    (Idle but Available Buddies go Amber in iChat)
    I tried this for a Significant number of Offline Buddies just in case one was Invisible and showed differently, but Nada.

  • Invisible Mode

    When I log on using Invisible mode, one of my contacts almost immediately comes online and sends me an IM. Am I invisible or not?

    when you login as invisible, you will appear as offline to your contacts and they will not receive any notifications that you have logged in.  Can you try to compare the time when you logged in and the time stamps of the IMs?

  • IChat 6 Yahoo invisible mode problem

    Hi there.
    At first glance it was really great hearing that iChat finally supports Yahoo!.
    But here is the big problem that makes iChat useless once again for me:
    I always login to Yahoo messaging service in "invisible" mode.
    In iChat when I log in and I lost the connection for any reason (e.g. VPN connection is lost)
    and then let iChat logs in when the connection is there again I become "Available" to the list of my friends then afterwards iChat sets my status to invisible.
    So every time that this happens everybody knows that I'm there.
    The problem goes even furthur. When I log out of Yahoo in iChat, using either contextual menu or Command+L, and then log in to Yahoo! again the same things happen. iChat makes me available and then invisible.
    Logging in as invisible only works when you yourself quitted iChat last time without logging out or loosing the internet connection.
    Any idea how to solve this problem or just Apple should fix it??
    P.S. If Apple does not fix the problem and or there is no workaround I think they should just forget about advertising of Yahoo support in iChat, since the whole philosophy of invisible mode is blown and I think invisible mode in Instant messaging is something that we cannot just forget about it.
    So till then back to Adium. Sigh!

  • Invisible mode and "last seen" function

    Hello,
    I noticed that when I log in as invisible, my friend can see me as 'last seen' the moment I log out: let's say I logged in at 22.30 on March 1 as invisible and logged out at 22.35. now when anyone hovers their mouse over my profile it'll say 'last seen 22.35 01/03'!!! so it's a give away I was actually using skype when with 'invisible' mode i should be hidden!
    Any ideas how to avoid this?

    You were last seen to the Skype servers at <date>, as correctly reported by the servers. I'd say this is not a Skype issue, but a social issue. Last seen commands !seen /seen etc, has been around since IRC was invented some decades ago, the solution to avoid the last seen function is the same today as it was back then, do not log in, if you do not wish anyone too know you are on the Internet.
    Skype is a "social" community, it's not based on people "maybe" being online, the users have to be able to trust the network for information regarding the other users. Do you want a stealth mode, enabeling anyone to message you without you knowing who they are, and no way to find out?
    The only solution to your issue is to make cron job (windows taskmanager), that starts Skype at 03:00 every night and shuts down 03:05, that way you will reset and pretty much confuse the ones tracking you, (do people really bother...)
    Skype aims at being a community (yes there is busy, invis and away) the online status modes are ment as a tool for convenience (eg you really cannot be disturbed right now, but will be back soon, otherwise log out), not tracking protection.

  • Video Message Issue

    Hello, guys! I have a bit of an issue with the new video message feature of Skype. That is, the option to send a video message is grayed out on every contact I have on Skype, but my friends can send me video messages and I can view them without any problems.
    Skype version: 6.21.59.104 (searching for updates yields me that I have the latest version of Skype)
    Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (100% legal)
    Camera: Turbo-X 1080P Full HD with built-in microphone (functions perfectly during video calls)
    Internet Speed: Average of 100Mbps if I remember correctly. Fairly fast and functional 100% of the time (I don't know if it is relevant)
    Note: I have no Facebook or Live contacts on my contact list. I do not log in as Invisible. Some of my friends do, but the option is grayed out for everyone, not just those that are Invisible. The only personal modification I have done for Skype is to block the advertisments by blocking access to apps.skype.com through my Control Panel.
    Solved!

  • Do I need to format

    Hi Everyone.
    I am learning all the time about my G5 and had it over a year and still so confused about it.
    I have pictures etc all over the place and wondered if by formatting it would speed it up as it is a bit slow now and again. I have put more memory in it but would formatting do any good? I know I did it often with a windows machine to get rid of all the rubbish so do i need to with this, and if so how do i do it without deleting the updates?
    I have copied all the photos over to a notebook I've just bought and just need to back up my itunes.
    Thank you
    Mal

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
    Formatting your hard drive will erase everything on it. To clean up the OS, and not lose any files, Tiger has a Archive and Install feature. This will allow you to keep all applications and files, while refreshing the OS with a new install. This, however, will not take care of files that you don't want. Also, you will have to reinstall updates.
    Occasionally, though, a reformatting of the hard drive is a very good thing to do for performance. When you do this, you must then reinstall the OS, all applications, updates, and files. Read about Installation Options.
    If you have a good system (OS, app's, files, etc.) that doesn't have a bunch of garbage, or problems, it's best to use a utility and clone the system drive to another drive, preferably an external firewire drive. This clone, can also be bootable. Then, in the future, while maintaining periodic backups to the clone, you will have a current copy of the system, which to you can boot from, and run your app's, and files. This, then makes it easy to occasionally reformat one drive, use the restore function of Disk Utiltity to reinstall all files to the newly cleaned drive, or, use the Migration Assistant in Tiger, to move only the files and applications that you want. Read about cloning with SuperDuper! and using Migration Assistant.
    To help keep a system performing, maintenance is necessary. This maintenance includes clearing caches, clearing logs, and other invisible files. If you leave your computer on 24/7, the OS will automatically perform these tasks. If you shut down, or sleep, all the time, the caches and logs can clutter up your drive, and cause loss of performance. To aid in these maintenance tasks, use OnyX, or Cocktail, and your system will stay clean and healthy. Read about OnyX and Cocktail. Here is some good info on Maintaining your OS X.

  • Spring2.5 + Weblogic 10.1 + JPA (Kodo) = UnexpectedRollbackException

    Hi,
    I'm facing a strange problem when creating a sample JPA application using Spring 2.5 and Weblogic 10.1.
    The example consists of 2 entities, Team and Player. All works well with simple attributes, and with a OneToOne relation between Team and Player.
    However, configuring a OneToMany relation from team to player (squad), and adding 2 players to the squad causes an UnexpectedRollbackException caused by a Weblogic RollbackException. It tells you to look for the nested exceptions, but they are nowhere to be found (domain log, server log, log4j log)
    The same annotations, but used with hibernate and managing tx myself works perfect.
    I provide the code and config below, if more is needed just shout.
    Any ideas?
    After I turned kodo logging on, I noticed tha 3 insert statements are inserted for players (although there are only 2)
    Code and a previous discussion are available on [url http://forum.springframework.org/showthread.php?t=49018]. As the format there is very readable, and to avoid mistakes I post a link here, and not the full source again B-)
    Ideas? Hints? Tips?
    Thanks,
    Nico

    Hi,
    In the mean time we identified the culprit.
    The problem was caused because there was a foreign key on the database between Player and Team. Apparently, Kodo does not always perform the inserts in the "correct" order, and then you bump into a referential constraint error of course. (found this because a colleague could not reproduce the problem...his DB was created by the Mappingtool, which just creates an index but does not enforce referential integrity)
    This error than was "swallowed" (logged at the - invisible - TRACE level of the kodo.Runtime log-channel) and converted into the puzzling UnexpectedRollbackException.
    Another Kodo puzzler: my persistence.xml looks like this
         <persistence-unit name="sample" transaction-type="JTA">
              <provider>kodo.persistence.PersistenceProviderImpl</provider>
              <jta-data-source>jdbc/testapp</jta-data-source>
              <properties>
                   <property name="openjpa.Connection2UserName" value="usr" />
                   <property name="openjpa.Connection2Password" value="pwd" />
                   <property name="openjpa.Connection2URL"
                        value="jdbc:oracle:thin:@db-info" />
                   <property name="openjpa.Connection2DriverName"
                        value="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" />
                   <property name="kodo.Log" value="SQL=TRACE, JDBC=TRACE, Runtime=TRACE" />
                   <property name="kodo.ConnectionFactoryProperties"
                        value="PrettyPrint=true, PrettyPrintLineLength=100" />
              </properties>
         </persistence-unit>
    If I omit the connection info, and only specify the datasource, it fails to collect the sequence_table...I read about this in [url http://forums.bea.com/thread.jspa?threadID=300004109], but it seems odd to me...
    I want to hide the connection info from my application by using a datasource, but am forced to specify it anyway for my persistence "helper"...

  • Can ichat set my status to invisible as soon as i log on?

    Is there a way to automatically set my status as invisible or away when I first logon to ichat?

    Yes.
    With iChat Open go to the Preferences > General Section.
    Untick the item about Changing the Login to Available on Start up.
    In the Accounts preferences untick the Box (whilst logged out) that says Login Automatically (Account Info tab)
    Now when you start iChat it will not log in a Buddy List.
    You can then set Statuses and such and manually log them in.
    Alternatively you can use the Preferences > General section to show the Status iocn (Menu Bar icon)
    You can then use this iCon to Login the front most Buddy list with the status you want.
    I saw a post recently about also opening iChat with a modifier key but I cannot remember which one it was.

  • Batch capture logged clips makes subclips that are invisible in sequence

    Any ideas?
    I log a series of clips (the icon is the square master clip icon). They are offline until I batch capture. However, once I batch capture, they become subclips(jaggy-edge subclip icon). They can play in the viewer and they are viewable in Quicktime. However, once I put them in the sequence, they are only black, even after rendering. HOWEVER, if I do a capture now off of the SAME tape w/ the SAME settings it will play just fine (after render) in the SAME sequence.
    Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks in advance

    Okay, finally able to do a couple of tests. I started a new project w/ settings for capturing good ol' NTSC DV, logged some footage and then batch captured (ntsc footage) -- no problem at all. The clips were clips, not subclips. Then I went into a project for DVCPro HD 720 30p, and pulled some clips from my original low res project into the HD project. Made those offline, then batch captured those at the full HD resolution. Not a problem there either. Then I went back into the original low res project, made a clip offline, recaptured it at full HD res, no problem. Soo.... I think there is some connection between what I've been capturing at my "low res HD" setting and the problem of turning the logged clips into subclips upon capture.
    All that said...I think I'm ok. At least I know now when I do need to capture it all in full HD res, I'll be able to, and it will relink into my project correctly as visible clips.
    Also, how can you mark somthing "helpful' if it has already been marked "solved"...it is not undoable, correct?

  • Log in set to Available instead of open application?

    Is there a way to have iChat automatically set my status to Available through the toolbar icon instead of having iChat a log in item? I understand you can hide log in applications, but if I don't have a connection immediately I get an error saying "network connection issue".

    Hi,
    In iChat Menu > Preferences > General Section there is an option to Set the Status to Available when iChat Starts up. It is the default setting and will override anything set last time it was Quit (including Invisible).
    However I don't think this is what you mean.
    If iChat is not the last Item in the System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items for your User Account you could try deleting it and re-adding it to the bottom.
    It does not make a difference in short lists as the Apps can sometimes start faster than the Network is established.
    Other than that it a question of using an Applescript in Login items that repeatedly tried to connect iChat.

  • HELP!! Can no longer log in to my Cloned HD.

    I can't log in on my external cloned HD. When booting up, it asks for user and password - but doesn't accept any of the ones I know - not even a root password I managed to recall from five years ago.
    I think my accounts are still there - at any rate, I can see various of my folders in their complete hierarchies within the "Users" folder on the drive.
    I tried resetting the original administrator account password (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274?viewlocale=en_US , bottom of page). The Password Reset utility on my Tiger Install CD reveals the drive, but the "select a user of this volume" drop down menu is grayed out and reads "No Users."
    How can I get back my accounts and log in?
    Here's some background which might help explain how I got into this mess.
    For a couple of years, I cloned my 160G hard drive to a 1T external using SuperDuper's "Copy Newer" facility. This effectively gave me a backup of all my files to a drive from which I could also boot in an emergency. I tested once or twice. It worked a treat, starting up and logging in as if it were my internal drive (but larger, and containing all those past files I'd deleted to conserve space).
    Last summer, I was lured by Apple to upgrade to their new Snow Leopard system at a very reasonable price.
    Almost instantly, my computer slowed down (especially Safari browsing) and I lost a number of dated applications (particularly Adobe apps from pre 2004 such as Photoshop).
    I thought: never mind - I still have a cloned boot drive should I want to use my older applications. So I stopped the SuperDuper backups in order to preserve my Tiger system with its setup and log-ins - effectively, a bootable replica of my pre-September hard drive.
    Snow Leopard gave me Time Machine, anyway. It requires a separate drive for backups - and there was still plenty of room on this 1T external…. So for the last six months or so, Time Machine has been squirrelling away copies of all my files into its own folder on that same Tiger hard drive.
    I'm now upgrading my internal HD to a new SATA drive with triple the space.
    In preparation, I've used SuperDuper to clone my HD.
    Since I still didn't want to overwrite my Tiger system, I copied everything to a disk image (called "Eric's backup.sparsebundle") on that same large external drive.
    I was going to install the empty new drive, boot from my Tiger drive and restore the Leopard clone (from the disk image "Eric's backup"), to the new internal drive.
    So there it is.
    I now suppose my problem may be that, effectively, this unpartitioned external drive actually contains three systems (albeit two of them backed up in a self-contained way). But I assumed that only the September clone (of my Tiger system) would be visible when it came to boot up.
    It looks as though I assumed wrong. It seems my computer can longer see my log-in files.
    I don't understand the Unix operating system - but, from reading these topics, it seems to me hopeful that I might be able to use terminal commands to restore passwords and user settings to some file within some hidden folder so that I might again reboot from my Tiger clone and log in.
    Grateful for all advice anyone can give me.
    (Incidentally, I have already tried deleting the /var/db/.AppleSetupDone file as per http://theappleblog.com/2008/06/22/reset-os-x-password-without-an-os-x-cd/ . Frustratingly, the setup process got as far as "Select keyboard: UK; USA" and, on continuing, hung with a spinning colour wheel each time. After forty minutes of nada, I restarted in terminal and put back the SetUpDone file)

    Thanks BD, I'll look into that.
    Whilst in terminal I followed someone's instructions to "fsck -fy".
    I don't know what the words mean, but it appeared to run a full check on the disk. No problems found. Is that as good as running Disk Utility?
    As I say, it seems to me possible (complete guesswork here as I know nothing about Apple's internal workings) that - whilst Time Machine was storing my files in a dedicated folder on my drive* - it was also making its own SnowLeopard changes to files within the invisible "var" folder on that drive (or some such other system folder); and that those changes have prevented Tiger from recognising my users and passwords. If were the case, then perhaps there is something straightforward I can do to point Tiger back towards my users - with or without passwords.
    I've also just spotted this: http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml
    Anyone know if I'm likely to do more harm than good with it?
    I won't have time to do either today - but very grateful for any further suggestions.
