  • No icons available on Webtop but they appear on classic webtop

Had a problem this morning where only some SGD users logging in lost all of their icons. It was working, and then if they logged off and logged back on they went away. Logging into the Classic Webtop showed all the icons though for users having the problem.
We found that killing off any suspended applications that a user was running would fix the problem and icons would re-appear. Has anyone seen any issues like this? It was very strange.
    Thanks!

Connect your iPod to iTunes and check on the Device/Podcasts pane; there are several options for which Podcasts are "kept on/left on" the iPod at each Sync. Are they set the way you want? For instance, if the setting is "to keep on the iPod only new Podcasts", that would cause older Podcasts to be removed.
If you need to chnage the setting, you will need to Sync the iPod afterwards for the change to take effect.

  • HT1386 I am having trouble synching all 1700 songs that I just put into iTunes Music Match onto my iPod Classic device. It worked on my iTouch and iPad devices but not the Classic. How do I transfer the music successfully

I am having trouble synching all 1700 songs that I just put into iTunes Music Match onto my iPod Classic device. It worked on my iTouch and iPad devices but not the Classic. How do I transfer the music successfully

It should sync the same if the songs are the same. You can try:
    - Unsyncing all music and resysncing
    - Restoring the iPod
BTW, yo posted in the iPod touch forum

  • 10.5.3 Safari Can't Log into "Classic" CompuServe

The Mac OS X 10.5.3 has changed something to inhibit logging into the CompuServe service, at least with a "classic" CompuServe user ID. The browser eventually reaches a page that fails to load "because the server is not responding." I've filed a bug report with Apple, but I thought I'd mention the problem here in case someone else has encountered it.
The work-around is to use Firefox.

The Mac OS X 10.5.4 update seems to have cured this problem.

  • My iPhone 4 isn't recognized by iTunes, but my iPod classic is.  How do I resolve this?

I was able to sync my iPod classic to iTunes no problem.  I have not updated my phone in a very long time untilo yesterday.  I also have not synced/backed it up since March.
    I followed the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
iTunes is update, I uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times today.
My phone has the newest iOS on it.
My USB cable and port are fine, as I just synced my iPod on it.
My phone charges, the bottom port is fine.
I've restated my phone numerous times.
I have tried the MSCONFIG onstructions.
I am unable to use another computer for this.  I can actually go into iTunes, add file to library, and add photos that way.  So, it's recognized by my computer.  However, iTunes won't reconize it to sync.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Lawrence,
    I do have AppleMobileDeviceService.exe running.
My USBs are plugging in straight into the laptop.  All 4 work.  Just today, I synced my iPod with multiple USB ports.  It works for the iPod, but the iPhone won't pop-up.  The iPhone does not appear in iTunes as a button anywhere.
I am unable to use another computer for this.  I can actually go into iTunes, add file to library, and add photos that way.  So, it's recognized by my computer.
This should have been seperated.  Basically, I don't have another computer accessible to me to back-up sync on iTunes with.
The last part means in iTunes, I can click "File > Add file to library" and the iPhone is shown as a camera icon.  I can click on it and have access to photos.  I can add those photos to the iTunes library.  That's about as far as the connectivity goes with the iPhone right now.

  • In my library i'll show an album but on my classic it will show the album twice, why? and how can I fix it?

Not every body is a computer wizz so why make it so difficult to get an answer. I asked how do I fix it when your library on your PC shows an album that same album shows up twice on my classic. Am I the only one getting frustrated from having to jump through hoops. I thought they were going to make this technology easier for the common person, maybe I was wrong. Help.

See Grouping tracks into albums - still a few hoops but they should get you sorted.

  • Can't connect to internet on OS X, but yes on Classic

    Here's the situation:
G3 Blue behind a LAN/ router connected to the internet via cable modem. The machine can access the server and other clients on the LAN, and transfer files back and forth.
It gets its IP number via DHCP, correctly finds the router's IP, everything seems to be OK.
However, it cannot access the web, or download mail.
I fired up Classic, and easily accessed the web, navigated, downloaded files. (?!)
I've tried with different browsers, manually added the DNS server address in the Network Preferences, tried under a different user, even erased the disk and reinstalled the system (OS X 10.2) -nothing worked.
Any clues/ ideas will be very much appreciated.
Power Mac G3 (Blue), 350 MHz   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Roger,
    thanks for the input.
The default gateway was OK, and so were the firewall settings.
In the network preferences, I manually configured each field (as opposed to using the settings automatically provided by the DHCP server), and now everything works fine!!
What puzzles me is that the manual settings (IP, router address, DNSs, subnet mask) are identical to those provided by the DHCP server, but this latter configuration will not work, whereas manually everything is ok.

  • Knackered - but in a classic way

I got an 80GB classic about a week ago and was pretty happy with it. I left it for a day or so though and it seems to have just stopped working now. The screen's black with no light or signs of life. Can't reset it (it's still the button in the middle for a few seconds, right? like on the old ones...?) but nbo joy, and it doesn't get recognised when i plug it into the computer either. I've tried charging it but no, it's still just a very expensive paperweight. is there anything else i can try before i dent it back to mr jobs?

D'oh! Always embarrassing when it's something simple! Ah well, glad I can listen to it on my way to work....although I'm not very happy that this new whizzy ipod seems to be a lot less robust than my manky old monochrome one, now put out to pasture.
    Thanks for the reply Vinmar!

  • My audiobook speed has halved to slow speed, but my ipod classic is fine and normal speed. How can I restore this speed to normal again and why has it done this?

what is it with altering the speed of play of audiobooks and voice recordings?
Why only the iphone affected and not the ipod classic?

I've just discovered the answer, tap the screen below the top play bar in a seemingly blank area then another set of controls appears which were previously hidden and on the right is a little box which controls the speed. Mine was at half speed.  It is so not obvious..........I ahd to find this in the downloadable instructions online.

This is my second time syncing my ipod touch and I've had my classic for forever and just use it to play in my car. I tried shutting down and it still did not work. Help? Thanks a bunch
Also...my computer recognizes both of them (Asus, Windows 7)

  • IPOD 80GB Classic not playing all songs but they play in ITUNES

After I synch all the songs are displayed on the IPOD but some will not play. They just skip to another song or album. This does not happen in ITUNES only on the IPOD

    *Skipping songs*
The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
You may like to try scanning the files with MP3 Validator which can find & fix some internal MP3 errors.
Some users have also suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information can be a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I've have found files for which these solutions don't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. (Grrr - I see the convert file to format feature has disapeared in iTues 9.1 so this might not be so easy if you've upgraded.) Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original files back onto the iPod.

  • Classic installed but non-functional

I have the Dual core Intel Mac Pro running 10.4.11. When I set it up with Migration assistant, it copied a classic system folder, but all my classic apps are greyed out and attempts to start classic fail. I have a couple of programs I still need access to. How can I get classic working on this machine?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

Classic won't work on Intel macs. The best you can do is Sheepshaver but it is really troublesome to set up.

  • I have a PowerBook 145B but something is wrong with the systemfolder so it wont boot. I've downloaded System 7.0.1 from Apple and put it on Floppys with my Macintosh Classic. The PowerBook boots from the floppy, after a minute its just white. What to do?

I have a PowerBook 145B but something is wrong with the systemfolder so it wont boot. I've downloaded System 7.0.1 from Apple and put it on Floppys with my Macintosh Classic. The PowerBook boots from the floppy but after a minute it just comes up a window thats completely white.
I've tried a lot of things, but my Macintosh classic (with original floppys) runs 7.0.0. And the PowerBook needs atleast 7.0.1 and did run 7.1.0 as original OS.
    How do I fix this?

Because your PowerBook 145B shipped with OS 7.1, it can't run an earlier version of the Mac OS, such as 7.0.1.  Unfortunately, Apple never made OS 7.1 available for download.  You can run OS 7.5.1, 7.5.3, and 7.5.5 on your PowerBook, but I'd recommend doing so with the maximum amount of supported memory - 8 MBs.  The 19-part download of OS 7.5.3 is segmented, so that each one will fit on a 1.44 MB floppy disk.  The problem is that the 19-diskette set isn't an installer set as such, having no bootable disk.  It's solely intended to be used to transfer the individual segments to the resident hard drive in the computer.  Once that's done, double-clicking the first .smi segment creates the OS 7.5.3 installer disk image on the desktop, which you drag onto the hard drive icon.  This produces a folder with the OS 7.5.3 installer in it.  I've done this before with an old Mac LC and it works.  You can also download the 3-diskette OS 7.5.5 Update and run that.  These downloads can be found on the same page where you found the OS 7.0.1 download: Older Software Downloads.

  • Itunes "sees" my ipod classic, begins to "verify" device but then freezes up

    Hi,
I have latest iTunes on Windows 7 and I have a couple iPod Classics and a nano I sync with it.   One ipod Classic and the nano work fine, but the other Classic shows up on "devices" and itunes begins to "verify" the device and may even try to "determine tracks to sync", but it will never get past that and freezes up, and i have to "close program" on iTunes.
This began happening within the past month (i sync maybe once a month or so).  No other changes that I can recall that might affect this.  I have not waited longer than ten minutes for it to "unfreeze", but normally the ipod is verified and ready for sync in less than a minute.
    Thanks for any help!!

    Hi grindlewald,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If your iPod is not being recognized by iTunes, the first step would be to make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes for Windows installed on your computer.  Then try to sync your device again.  If it is still not recognized, you may need to restore the iPod Classic.  The articles below will help you with this:
    The iPod Classic User Guide

Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod classic in iTunes.
Restart your computer, and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
Reinstall iTunes software from the latest version on the web.
Restore iPod classic. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page 61.
