Log in user (admistrator) freeze after desktop screen

all other log in users are working fine, but my administator log in freeze after desktop screen,
I used the original G5 install disk to start up the computer to run tool disk, but it can't repair the problem, I have techtool pro and it reports a problem and also says the computer it's corrupted, what should I do.

Unfortunately, no. This is one of my classroom machines, and I don't have the storage capacity to keep them all backed up.

  • G4 Quicksilver freezes at desktop screen requiring PRAM reset.

    Hi,
I recently got a used G4 dual 1 GHZ Quicksilver with two internal hard drives(80 & 40GB). I made some mistakes when I first received it, being used to running OS 9 on a blueberry G3 with one hard drive, and now it frequently freezes after a cold start at the desktop screen.
When I first got it, it had two HDs installed. The slave HD had OS 9.2.2 loaded on it and the master had OSX 10.4.7. Unfortunately, being used to OS9 right away I tried to open an application (Internet Explorer) on the OS 9(slave) hard drive from the desk top while running the OSX hard drive(master HD). As a result, the computer sarted opening a huge file.
My wife came home for luch and I needed to leave. I tried to stop the program, I couldn't. I tried to shut down the computer, it wouldn't. So, I unplugged the computer. Second mistake.
When I got home I couldn't turn the computer on. With some research I discovered how to reset the PMU. That did it.
Unfortunately, I still hadn't learned to not try to open one hard drive while running the other without selecting it as a startup item. As a result, late that night I tried a half dozen more times to open an application on the OS 9 (slave) hard drive while not understanding that I was running the master HD. All with the same result. It took 15 minutes to open ending with a text block about the "21 day trial period for IPNetSentry" having expired then total lock up. Then I restarted and repeated the same mistake. The only thing that stopped me was that it was 2:30 in the morning. Sounds pretty stupid now. I then tried to find all the threads of this IPNet Sentry and trash them.
The next morning my current problem seemed to begin. The screen freezes once I get to the desktop screen. I can reset the PRAM and all is fine again until the next time I turn the computer off and start it up again. It doesn't happen every time. It will happen for a few days, go away then after a week or so start acting up again. I also noticed that it doesn't lock up when I use restart, only when it is all the way off and turned on again.
Here's what I have done to try to resolve the problem. I scrubbed both hard drives using the restore software, and I replaced the PRAM or back up battery. The apple hardware test disk passes everything.
One more big clue. When I was reloading the restore software on the master HD I got the messages "!Could not restore the restricted-segment image. Reading block 00174A440." and then "The restore failed. The volume 'MacIntosh HD' may be unusable." Another time the first text block was the same except the reading block was 002141B0. Major bummer. It took four or five tries before I get get all five of the restore disks to install.
In another forum I found someone else with a similar message and a responder said that the hard drive may have gotten scratched. His thinking was that in trying to open a big file (in this case, the application on the slave HD while running the master HD) that the memory got used up and spilled into virtual memory and somehow scratched the master HD.
If anyone has any ideas of things to try before I go out and by another hard drive I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

    G4RAY,
So, it sounds like you are saying that the Ultra ATA-100 will work in my machine.
Yes, an Ultra ATA-100 or Ultra ATA-133 hard drive should work just fine, and your G4 does not have a 128GB size limitation so you can use any size you desire as long as you format the drive with OS X 10.2 or a later version of OS X Disk Utility. There's no real practical performance difference between using an ATA-100 versus ATA-133 drive with the drive bus on your Mac. One thing that does help drive performance, however, is the drive buffer size. Given the choice, get a drive with an 8MB buffer over one with a 2MB buffer. If you will be looking in the 300GB and larger range, some drives are available with a 16MB buffer.
A new drive typically comes with a new 80-wire, 40-pin, Ultra DMA ribbon cable; drive pin jumpers, and a set of mounting screws. I'd use the new cable and jumper the drives as master and slave. You should have no issues with new slave drive of any size, either. Also, with a two-drive setup on a single ribbon cable, it does not matter which drive is connected to the inline or end connector, as long as one is jumpered as master and the other as slave.
Crucial arguably produces the highest quality RAM, although it's pricey. I've been using RAM from OWC and Kingston without issue. Regardless of where you might decide to get more RAM, I'd suggest doing hardware additions in phases, rather than all at once. It gives one an opportunity to test the configuration before making the next addition; and if there's a problem, it's often much easier to pinpoint. I'd straighten out my drive issues, run the Mac for a couple of weeks, then order/install new RAM, for example.
BTW - If you do get a new drive(s) and need some help with drive pin settings, or perhaps might be looking for some tips on setting them up with a backup plan, there are plenty of folks here who can offer helpful advice.

  • Macbook pro (late 2009) freezes at desktop screen

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro late 2009 model 17 inch, running Lion 10.7.3
every now and then (once per ten boots) I have a specific freezing issue, after booting and loading the desktop screen and icons, mouse cursor is moving but I can't do anything more, the only think that works is a hard reset from the power button. I tried by re-installing Lion but the problem persists. I observed that this is also usually happens when I restarting from Bootcamp (windows) to OS.
    Any idea or suggestion?

See this article. You might have damaged software, and you'll have to reinstall from the recovery mode, depending on which version of OSX you have.

  • BI 7 Bex Query - User exit variables after variable screen re-processed

User exit variables are not re-calculated after the variable screen is called up to re-run report with a new selection.  Is there some way to force the user exit variables to change?   I am aware of note 1064273 but this doesn't seem to help in these circumstances.
    Example:
My Bex Query uses OI_FYPER for a static characteristic selection and  I have defined a customer exit formula variable which uses the values in OI_FYPER.
All works fine when the query is run first time but if the user calls up the variable screen to change the selection and re-run the query, the customer exit formula variable is not re-calculated (customer exit is called but only with ISTEP = 3).
Software version is NS2004S (BI 7.0)  SPS10, BI ABAP SP11, BI JAVA SP10, BI Front End Package 1401 rel 354.

hi.. i just came to know about this in another thread..
I_STEP 3 does not have I_VNAM stored. So, to access values at I_STEP3 :
    data: l_range TYPE RRS0_S_VAR_RANGE.
    if I_STEP = '3'.
read table I_T_VAR_RANGE into L_RANGE with key VNAM = 'OI_FYPER'
    if SY-SUBRC = 0.
    ...code as required...
    endif.
    endif.
    Customer-Exit for analysis Authorizations: i_step = 3, i_vnam is empty

  • ZCC Logged In Users keep showing after user logout

ZCM 11.2.4 with matching clients. Workstations still reflecting logged in users after they've logged out and even restarted their computer. I've logged out and logged back in to ZCC and still don't reflect no one logged in to PC. It changes when next person logs in to PC though. This is new behavior since our update to 11.2.4.
Is there a setting to change, or is this something new to work around?

you might think that, but it's been like that since day 1 of ZCM, and

  • MacBook freeze after desktop loads

I repaired permissions, and this still occurs.  I have a new insall of OS 10.7 as I purcahsed a new HD for my MacBook.
Any ideas what would cause this?
Any ideas how to reover or force a reboot when it hangs? Right now I am just holding the power button until the MacBook powers off.

You're responding to a post from five months ago. If that's how long you had to wait for the issue to reappear, it may never be resolved.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
If you have an optical drive, make sure there is no disc in it.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a system crash or freeze, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • G4 Dual 800 Freezes At Desktop Screen With Cursor In Top Left Corner...

At OSX 10.4 startup my screen freezes as mentioned above. The clock is still accurately working and the usual startup sound occurs but the grey screen with logo takes longer than usual to reach the blue screen with icons and screentop info.
Problem occurred whilst selecting Safari icon to go on line. Until then the cursor had freely moved. The light on a wireless mouse shows power from the batteries and I know they're OK but the light on the signal source plugged into the screen rear USB point does not now light up (green - it's a Microsoft one).
I've got three different mouses and each indicates a lack of power to the system at that point. However, until the static cursor is reached on the desktop everything else seems to be working.
I've been through the usual keyboard steps in an effort to solve the problem and I've followed the previous comments earlier on in the year but my circumstances don't appear to be exactly the same....
Any A to B advice would be appreciated - thanks.

    Thanks for that Tom.
Should have said.....When I first succeeded in gaining Safe Mode (after a number of attempts) I found that moving the cursor to the Dock, to the first icon it came across, the Finder one, it immediately froze the screen again, the same as when I selected Safari in the Dock first of all.
I'm still in the process of trying to get the Safe Mode to come up again but haven't yet succeeded with the required precision in selecting after the startup sound (well, I think that's what I'm about!). I'll call back again on progress shortly. If I manage it I'll try selecting the Tray operation.

  • Mac OSX will not boot, when I log in, it shuts down after grey screen and grey loading bar show up: PLEASE HELP (:

So here is a lowdown on my problem.
I start my mac OSX, I hold down the alt/option key and load my MAC osx drive (which is the only drive available; however, when i do not hold down the alt/option key it will go to a black screen that says "no bootable device, press a key when device inserted").  Continuing, it then goes to my login screen where I have my username, and I can enter my password like usual.  I enter my password, hit the enter button (like I always do), and this is where my problem begins.
After I enter my login and hit enter, the screen goes grey, with a little apple symbol in the middle and a different shade of grey loading bar underneath.  This grey loading bar shows up for about 10 seconds, fills up about 10-20 percent, and then shuts my computer down.
No matter what I do, this process repeats over and over, and heres where the problem gets worse, and this part is VERY IMPORTANT and is the most depressing, stressful part of the process.
NONE of the startup/boot commands work except holding the alt/option key.  I can't hold: Command plus r; command pr  to reset PRAM; shift to enter safe mode.
I really dont know what to do here :/.  I have files that I want on the hard drive, that are pretty important but not critical.  I gave up on wanting the files back but now I want to simply WIPE my computer and re-install a clean version of OSX onto the computer, but I CANNOT GET TO THE REINSTALLER :(.
More information that may be helpful:
I do have a partition on the HDD that I was going to use for Bootcamp, but it does not have anything installed on it (thus causing the "no bootable device" screen to load, and probably causing the boot commands not to work).
My version of Mac OSX is 10.8.4. "MBP 15.4/2.8/16GB/768 flash"
The last time I restarted my computer, my mac OSX RAM was down to 1.75 GB, with nothing open.  Usually when nothing is open the free RAM is around 10-13 GB (I know this because I have the activity monitor always open, and I use my computer a lot).
Again, boot commands will not work, except for holding the alt/option key.
So if anyone can help me fix my problem(s), which are:
1: using boot commands; 2: reinstalling mac OSX; or 3: getting my files,
I would love you forever.  I would really prefer 1 or 2.  Thanks for reading this.

Oh and one more thing, I do not have a disc drive in the mac osx.  The version I have comes without one.
I am very puzzled about what to do right now.

  • System preferences freezes on desktop/screen saver

Ever since I installed Messages Beta, my System Preferences will no longer open. I tried to change my desktop background and it froze up, and the rainbow wheel shows up and I have to force quit it. I unistalled Messages, I delted the systempreference.plist or preferences.plist, I've restarted it, I've shut it down, but it continues to freeze. I am running Lion too and haven't had any issues until now. Please Help!

Quit System Preferences if it's running. In the Finder, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Freezing after a few minutes of screen sharing?

Hello, when setting up a screen sharing session on mountain lion with a lion laptop (the ml is being controlled by the lion laptop), the 10.8 laptop freezes after a few minutes of the session. The mouse cursor still works locally, however no clicking or keyboard input is accepted. The remote controller also loses the connection, and a hard reboot is the only thing to bring the computer back.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Yes, that is exactly what I am experiencing.
I followed instructions and found that computer was set to log out after 120 minutes.  I don't know if that is the default setting or not, but I know I never set it that way myself, didn't even know the option was there.
I have always had the computer set to start screensaver after 15 minutes, display sleep after 30 minutes, and computer sleep after 1 hour.  The computer never logged me out with those settings until a couple of days ago when this problem started.  I had changed computer sleep to never so I could see if remote desktop on my ipad would be able to connect to the imac, and that is when the problem started.
I am trying setting screensaver to 10 minutes, display sleep to 15 minutes, and computer sleep to never, and see if that solves the problem.  I also unchecked the box to log out after 120 minutes.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

  • Mac OS X 10.5.6 Fast User Switching Freezes Screen

The past two Mac OS X versions (10.5.5 and 10.5.6) result in the screen freezing after initiating Fast User Switching. Version 10.5.4 worked as designed, but 10.5.3 had the same issue. Seems to be video display related. Using a 20" display does not result in the screen freezing. Has anyone else had this issue or have any fix suggestions?

  • All animation freezes after Log Out used

I've searched and searched and cannot locate another issue similar to this...wondering if someone could offer advice. After I took the iTunes 7, Front Row, and QuickTime updates recently, my dock animation, menu animations, etc freezes after using Log Out feature and switching to a different account. When I log into another account (or log back out and into my main account), all animation is gone with the Dock, menus, etc. I have to re-boot in order to get animation back. What is weird, is that it appears to just be animation. Functionally, I can still click on items in the dock or menu bar and have them do what they should. Just no animation. Not even the blue highlight as I move down over menu items. I have repaired permissions with nothing out of the ordinary. Any other ideas for me? Thanks in advance.
PS: I do not have fast user switching turned on. I always use log out user when needed.

Just one bump here for the weekend. Anyone else encountered this or can offer suggestions? Thanks.
