Log & Transfer Question - Import Settings

Is there any way to save my import settings in Log & Transfer (FCP7)? Every clip I import goes back to the default of 4 audio channels...and I don't want all four channels. Aside from manually changing the audio setting for each clip in the batch, is there a way to save a my audio setting for the entire batch of clips?
Thanks.

while you may not be able to save a setting, you can apply a change to all clips in the L&T bin.
In the bin, highlight the clips you want to have the same settings then, in the viewer window in Log & Transfer, select the settings tab, make the changes to the audio then apply to all.

  • Log & Transfer - cannot import in

My friend bought the same camcorder as me (Canon HF M31) so that he can sent me his SD card for me to edit his video.
When I received his SD card,I tried to do a Log & Transfer using the highest level but I got this message:
"No Name" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure.
What happened ? My friend recorded in FXP which is AVCHD 1920 x 1080 in PAL.
What did he possibly could have done to make the card:
    a) contain unsupported media
    or
    b) invalid directory structure ?
I also tried copying the mts files into my own sd card (which has no problem) but that mts files did not appear when I did a Log & Transfer using my own sd card.
What happen ? why is that so ?
    Thanks

What settings are you using? What version of the software?
I have no idea what FXP means. That's some Canon code.
    Hi Tom,
My sequence settings are AVCHD 1920 x 1080 i50. My final cut is the latest version 4.0.1.
FXP is just Canon's code for AVCHD 1920 x 1080. The camcorder is in PAL.
Before this, I can log & transfer without a problem.
The issue here is the SD card from my friend is giving me this problem.
I need to tell my friend what causes the *unsupported media* OR *invalid directory structure*. I am puzzled because we used the same camcorder model number & I have no problem with mine !
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

  • Log & transfer question

In the past I have ingested my AVCHD .mts files direct from the SD cards via "Log & transfer" with no problems. Unfortunately a colleague has left the country I'm in, with the SD cards and left me with direct copies on a hard disc.
When I try and use Log & transfer to ingest the same .mts files from a disc it doesn't recognise the files. Is this normal?

Did they copy the FULL CARD structure? Leave nothing out? Keep in EXACTLY the way it appeared on the card? In other words...made a folder, copied everyting on that card into that folder? If so, then in Log and Transfer, just select that folder.
If not...boo on them. Hisssss! Then you will need third party options like Toast Titanium or Clipwrap2. I recommend Clipwrap...I use it and really like it.

  • Log & transfer Pro Res question

I am using log and transfer to import some .mts material. In preferences it says its encoding in Pro res 422 which is fine. My question is I can't see how you can change the parameters of the encoding, are you stuck with Pro res 422 whether you like or not and is the bitrate just fixed?

When you click on the preferences and you see ProRes 422, If you click on ProRes 422 you will see the other options.

  • Final Cut Express Log & Transfer Error No Data

Hello all, after hours pouring through the threads with similar questions, I have had no luck. I have been using FCE for nearly two years, and have never seen this error message "No Data"
Last night, I was in the middle of transferring clips from my Sony hdr xr520v using my MacBook Pro capturing on my external HD with over 200GB available. The transfer was going smoothly, but VERY slow - slower than I remember it ever taking. I thought I would be a bright one and switch from my Firewire port to my USB (I had been capturing via USB for about 6 months when my logic board fried and external drive was not visible via Firewire only USB) In any event, I'm boring you with the details so you can replicate the scenario. The transfer was working with Firewire but I switched back to USB illogical I know since Firewire is faster than USB, but I was going with prior 6months experience. When I connected the HD with the USB, all of a sudden I got the No Data error message. I promptly switched back to Firewire, but I am still getting the message! What have I done?
I checked my settings - Log & Transfer is set to AVHD Plug in and Plain Stereo. Both audio and video are checked, FCE is set to HDV- AIC 1080i50.
I can not log & transfer ANY clips into FCE (not even the ones already imported last night) I can, however import all into iMovie (which I know doesn't care about all the stuff FCE cares about but helped me eliminate the possibility of corrupt clips).
ANY help would be MUCH appreciated

I thought you had to use USB 2.0 to log and transfer AVCHD . . . . definitely not Firewire?
I suggest you trash the preferences as detailed in the link below and start again with the correct Easy Setup and using USB 2.0.

  • Using AVC Intra for Log & Transfer

    Just checking,
Can you use the AVC Inra setting in Log & Transfer for XDCAM instead of AVCHD and if so what is the difference the two settings?
    Jeff

    Hi Thrillcat,
The reason I asked this question is I was told that when importing XDCAM ftg I should use the AVCHD setting in Log & Transfer . I just noticed the AVC-Intra setting and thought this was a new flavor of AVC and thought I might use this as well for my XDCAM import.
    Could you set me straight?
    Thanks

  • FCP 7 crashes when Log & Transfer MXF files

I just got a new MacBook Pro and Final Cut Studio that includes FCP 7.
I just received footage from my DP shot on a Panasonic HVX200 on P2 Cards and saved as MXF files. I saved all files onto my MacBook with a backup on an external USB drive (another set was saved on a Firewire 800 drive).
    All footage was shot 720p/24fps.
I can view the files on the Log & Transfer preview window - but when I attempt to ingest via Log & Transfer, the transfer begins but suddenly stops (status is idle) and the red ! stop sign appears - obviously the file was not ingested. When I attempt to re-start the transfer or try with another file, FCP crashes.
My understanding is FCP 7 is able to accept native P2 format files (MXF) without transcoding - so it is very disappointing this is not working.
    Easy Setup settings are:
    Format: Panasonic DVCPRO HD
    Use: DVCPRO HD 720p/24
    Portion of error log:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x00000000ffffffff
    Crashed Thread: 0
I would greatly appreciate any insight!

It doesn't transcode...it wraps the MXF files into a QT wrapper, joining audio and video. DVCPRO HD P2 mainly. AVCintra native support is here too, but you need to render to ProRes.
    BUT...that isn't the case here...try this:
in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.

  • The Video check box in the Import Settings is greyed out, what have I done?

I am using a Sony Handycam HDR-SR5E with final cut pro (v7.0l). When logging and transferring my recent files I found i only imported the sound. So returning to the log and transfer window, and checking on the import settings i notice the check boxes are grayed out and the video box is unchecked.
I have no idea what I have done, some of the files will allow me to import video, but the files i really need won't. Just retested the camera and the file i just recorded will allow me to import the video. Any ideas, i want to avoid making the same mistake again and ideally would like to get the video out of the camera.

    Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.

  • "clips queued-idle" error using log&transfer in FCP7

Hi, I shoot HDV on a Sony Z5 and now want to use a Sony memory recording unit (HVR-MRC1) instead of tapes.
Today I ran some tests and the first time all went well: I connected the HVR-MRC1 with a firewire cable, opened log&transfer in FCP 7 and no problem importing all the files (after downloading a plugin).
But then I deleted all the files and recorded some new clips. Once I tried to import those in FCP, using log & transfer I could only import 7 of the 9 clips. Of the 2 clips it didn't want to import it said "clips queued - idle".
Also, I realised that none of the clips I shot could be previewed and I couldn'y choose an in- and outpoint before importing. I could only import the whole clip.
I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me with this. I'm looking forward to working tapeless, but I need to be 100% sure that I'll have access to all my footage.
    Many thanks in advance!

First thing, I always copy the material to a local hard drive before doing the log and transfer.  Make sure you copy the containing folder from the camera.  If you change the folder structure, fcp will not be able to access the material.
What settings did you shoot with.  FCP is not compatible with certain formats.  If you have access to Premiere, you may be able to convert the files to an fcp friendly format.
    Good luck.

  • Does Log & Transfer exist in FCP 5??

This seems like such a noob question, but I've searched my manual and all my menus, as well as looking all over this forum, and I can't find "Log & Transfer" in FCP5. Log & Capture won't work with my Canon Vixia HF10. I got that.
I can import video clips into iMovie '08 and move them over, but that seems way high on the lameness scale, and in looking at the movie properties of the resultant .mov file, looks like I lose something in the import.
I would rather not shell out the bucks to go from FCP5 to FCP6, but if I must... sigh.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You will need to upgrade for Log and Transfer. It is a new feature for FCS2 / FCP 6.xx

  • Vixia HF S21 24F import settings

Have been a tape-based Canon and Final Cut Express user for the last 7 years. Now I have the latest Final Cut Studio and a new Canon Vixia HF S21. And you guessed it, I need to know the optimal import settings for Final Cut.
I shoot short (28 min) nature "video postcard" DVDs and want the absolute highest HD quality I can get out of the new camera, so I have been shooting in the Vixia's 24F native mode at the MXP, 1920x1080, 24Mbps, quality with the intent of going to AVCHD DVD or Blu-ray or both. I want the best quality in the end, but, at the same time, I don't want to burn up hard drive space capturing more information than will reproduce on the DVDs.
So in Final Cut's Audio/Video Settings, should I be using a Sequence Preset of "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p 48kHz" or will "Apple ProRes 422 (LT) 1920x1080 24p 48kHz" do? And in the Capture Preset, should I use "HDV-Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)" or will "HDV-Apple ProRes 422" be enough?
Thanks very much for your assistance

Pro ResLT. Capture preset doesn't matter. You're not capturing. The codec is set in the log and transfer window. The sequence preset should match.

  • Log & Transfer of Canon HF 11: error message

    Hi guys,
I just got a new canon HF 11 (basically the same as the HF 10) and i tried to import footage using Log & Transfer but every time I click "add clip to queue" it spins a grey icon for a few seconds which then turns to a red circle with an exclamation mark inside and says "Error: No Data". I have tried giving the clip an in and out mark but this doesn't help.
    Any ideas,
    Thanks

I have had a similar problem with my Canon HG21 which has both hard disk and 32GB flash drive. My method is to copy files from the Hard Disk to the flash drive and then place the flash drive into a card reader. I was able to see FCE downloading in log and transfer for a second or two and then it went into an idle mode and never downloaded the file.
My solution was to delete ALL from from the flash drive followed by copying the videos and stills from the hard disk onto the clean flash drive. I realize you don't have the luxury of the hard disk, but perhaps you can extract the files using the Voltiac tool to clone the Canon structure from the camera and see if log and transfer will work directly from your hard disk on the Mac.

  • How do I remove an entry from the "Store Files" drop down list in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2

The dropdown list "Store Files" in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2 displays the history of the entries previously added to the list. Some of the entries are no longer valid and I'm trying to delete them but I can't find a way to do this. This is a screenshot. Does anyone know how to do this?

Once again - the Jive system ate my bullet points and messed up the formatting
Is the MacOS X version in your signature correct? Then you cannot be using Aperture 3.3.2?
You should not be seeing duplicate entries in the "Store Files" pop-up menu. This looks like your Aperture Preferences file is corrupted and needs fixing.
Quit Aperture (and log off and on again, if you are running MacOS X 10.7 or later)
Then reveal your User Library (from the Finder's main menu bar, the "Go" menu. Hold down the options-key until the library apears in the drop-down menu)
In the Library folder select the "Preferences folder and locate the file "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist"
    Now you can either
remove the com.apple.Aperture.plist file to the Desktop, to force Aperture to create a new one, but you will have to set again your Preferences from the "Preferences" panel,
or make a backup copy of the file and edit it, if you are an experienced programmer and have Xcode installed. To fix the drop-down list you need to edit the item "RecentReferenceFolders" and delete the redundant folder names. Enter "recent" into the search field to find it quickly. If you click an item in the list, plus/minus buttons should appear. But only try this, if you know how to edit property lists, otherwise it will be much safer to delete the faulty list and to set your preferences again from the "Preferences" panel.

  • What are the best import settings for iTunes - AAC 160 / AAC 192 / MP3??

Hi I originally imported all my treasured CDs to iTunes several years ago, and they've served me well (AAC 128 - default setting) but in recent times hard-drive sizes have trebled and my much loved iTunes Library has not been updated.
    I am thinking of re-importing all of my original CDs - as I think now that hard-drive space would allow for a higher quality but at the same time I do not want to fill my hard-drive completely with music - hence my question;
WHAT ARE THE BEST IMPORT SETTINGS CONSIDERING SIZE AND QUALITY?
(I know this has probably been asked a million times, but I did a search and nothing came up that answered my Q - also all the answers that came up in Google search where dated 2003/ 2004 - a little out-dated me thinks!!)
    Rachael

Personally I've started ripping everything Apple Lossless. That way I hope I never have to rip again.
I used to rip 320 mp3. I couldn't tell the difference between 320 mp3 and lossless, but, one day I might be able to - big maybe. But since disk price is not likely to go up, I figured I'd rip lossless from now on "just in case."
Probably few, if any, people could tell the difference between 256 AAC and lossless (I've done it at 192, but never at 256, and I have not bothered trying again recently - there might be a song out there where I could hear the difference, hence ripping lossless from now on - my time costs more than disk space . . .)
256 AAC is a pretty safe bet, unless you need mp3 compatibility, then use 256 (or 320) mp3.
