Logged in twice

When I clicked on the Apple menu, I noticed that I am logged in to the computer twice. At the bottom of the menu it has "Log Out" listed twice, as well as two "restart" and two "shut down" listings. I've tried to log out of each account, but when I turn the computer back on and log in again, it shows that I'm still logged in twice. Its affecting the appearance of the screen, such as when I click on an icon on my desktop as well as other things. If anyone could let me know how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it.

katietrouble,
That symptom is an indication that VoiceOver has been activated.
You can turn VoiceOver on/off in the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, or by pressing Command-F5.

  • After updating to Yosemite need to log on twice

    I recently updated to Yosemite and for some reason I have to log on twice now.  The first time will give me the standard status bar loading.  Once it loads it takes me back to a log on screen with an Apple logo in the top left of the screen.  It's getting annoying, any suggestions?

    Same here. I've attached a screen shot of what the font menu looks like in Adobe Illustrator CS 5.1, now that I've upgraded to OSX Yosemite (10.10).
    No fonts.

  • Logged in twice as same user?

    The computer that I am currently using is a Mac Pro with OS 10.4.11. Because it is a "community" office computer with multiple users, many of the settings get changed by people not knowing much about operating systems.
    So here's the problem, someone using the computer over the weekend happened to get the computer logged in twice as the same user??? How do you disable one of the duplicate users? I've tried logging out of the duplicate user but can't get back into the system without logging back in as the same user, which in turn creates the duplicate user again... annoying! What is the solution. I've tried force-quitting & hard-rebooting the computer only to have the duplicate come back. Please, someone help

    Even though it might look like it, there shouldn't be two identical accounts (I am guessing that the users do not have admin access to create or modify accounts). You can use the Accounts preference pane to see (or remove) the accounts.

  • 2010 MacBook air randomly logged out twice today. Installed new  version of Flash earlier today. I wonder if there is a connection.

    My MacBook Air (13" 2010) randomly logged out twice today.
    The only new software is a Flash update.
    Anyone experiencing anything similar?
    Any suggestions?

    Ddevore,
    Console is located in the Utilities folder, which is inside the Applications folder. I've attached a screen shot of what I'm referring to for visual reference. The import thing is that you get the information that Console logged just prior to the logout occurring.

  • After restore time machine log in twice

    After moving files and programs from Mac Air to new Mac Pro, I have to login twice.  I assume that this means the file restore occurred "inside" a logged in user, but how do you fix it?
    Also curious is that even while I am typing something, the machine will time out due to inactivity and I'll have to log back in.  This requires only one login screen.

    The external drive does not seem to be the problem.  I've tried the following:
    - Deleted the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist file and reconfigured TM.
    - Do Time Machine backups on another disk.  After initial full backup, the same behavior persisted.
    - Exclude the external drive ("Synk_Archive" in the logs above) from TM backup.  The behavior persisted.
    - Unmount the external drive.  The behavior persisted.
    - Exclude Macintosh HD from TM backup.  TM behaved normally and only backed up a few files per run!
    - Repaired disk permissions on Macintosh HD.  The behavior persisted.
    So, there is something about Macintosh HD that is fooling TM into thinking there have been a million files changed every hour.  Wiping and restoring my hard drive would be a desperate last resort and might not even solve the problem (since the trouble began right after replacing and restoring this drive).  Anyone have another suggestion?

  • FileVault Bug, requires you to log in twice.

    So I'm sitting here and wondering.... am I the ONLY person who is using FileVault in the new Lion? or am I the only one who's having these problems, but here's the scenario. Last week I purchased a brand new 2011 Macbook Air with the i7 Processor, and 256GB SSD drive... All excited, bring it home and start to set it up for work, and then all of a sudden it starts acting strange.
    Symptoms:
    Upon initial boot up, or system restart, you are presented with the login screen, but after you enter in your password and hit enter, it just sits there for a while spinning the wheel, and then just out of the blue decides it wants to reboot all by itself, comes back up and then presents you with the login page again. At which time the second time, and ONLY the second time, it accepts your login, and presents you with your desktop, and everything runs fine from them on.
    When this started happening the first time, I was completely lost and tried every troubleshooting step in the books to try to figure it out. I disabled all startup items in the user profile thinking that might have something to do with it. Nope, no luck. I tried the Comand + alt + P + R key stroke to clear out the system, Nope, no luck.
    I went out and paid $69 for a USB Key with Lion on it so that I could reinstall the OS without having to wait 3 hours for it to download, which is funny considering I'm supposed to already be licensed for it with the Macbook Air, but thats another gripe for another post. Then I begin installing one thing at a time and rebooting to find out what may have caused the problem.
    I finished installing all of the apps I need, and everything was still running right, and then I was like cool, it must have just been a glitch, and I enabled FileVault, rebooted the comuter, it came up fine and then after it was done encrypting I installed eset cybersecurity for Mac. I know I know, Mac's don't need virus scanners, but its required for my job, and I really don't have a choice, that and the disk encryption.
    So once the virus scanner was installed, I began copying my personal files and documents from my external drive to the Macbook Air, and decided to do another reboot just in case, and low and behold, the problem was back... Enter password the first time, and the system reboots, but the second time it lets you log in.
    At this point I'm pretty pieved, so I take the Macbook Air back and buy a 13" Macbook pro with the i7 processor, 8GB of memory, and 500GB standard hard drive. Well to cut a long story short, I had the same problems with this system, until I finally found out that the reason why all of this was happening was because:
    A. I had FileVault enabled
    B. I had copied files to the device that were previously on another Mac device.
    I have no idea why it does it, but it appears as though when you enable FileVault, you're fine as long as you dont copy anything from an old computer onto it, because when you do all of a suddedn you're presented with the problem. Oh and if FileVault isnt enabled, you dont have the problem either. Ever.
    So there is a bug in FileVault which is by itself not that big of a deal and not a very bad bug... heck all it seems to affect is your ability to login the first time, or at least thats all I've found, but what on earth happened with Apple. Ever since Jobs has taken his leave of absence everything has been going downhill.
    Apple's HUGE advantage over Microsoft and every other operating system has always been that with apple, everything JUST WORKS. But unfortunately, I have to say that Lion has been the biggest piece of junk released by Apple in a LONG time. It has more bugs with it than you can shake 10,000 sticks at, and the more I use Lion, the more I find problems with it. What the **** is going on? With Winblows, I had to deal with little issues all the freaking time, like every single day. You'd have the wonkiest of things happening like you install a new app and when you reboot your desktop is all messed up, and when you wake the computer up from sleep, you cant login, or stupid things like that. So I ALWAYS found refuge in my Mac, and I always used to say well I don't have to worry about that.
    Now with Lion... I have all the same problems a Winblows machine does. When I open the lid, I have to wonder if its actually going to wake up, or just provide me with a blank screen and force me to do a hard reboot. Or if I launch Safari, and it just doesn't want to open up the home page, or the fact that in the middle of transfering a file, or streaming music, all of a sudden my wireless link drops, but it doesn't actually tell you that you have no wireless link, and yes, it STILL happens even after the 10.7.1 update, even though that was supposed to have addressed this issue specifically.
    I hate to say this, but Microsoft must have a fairy godmother or something, because they are **** lucky Steve Jobs resigned as CEO, because he seems to be the ONLY one at Apple who had the required attention to detail that seperated them from everyone else, and I'm scared that Apple is going to be yet another company now that releases products with buggs in it, and oh well, you just have to accept that as a part of life. I DONT want Apple to be the first with everything. I could care less if I have to wait for a new technology to be incorporated into the OS. I don't want them to be the first with a new interface like lion, or to combine OS X and IOS into a single cohesive echosystem. I just want them to be the BEST. I will wait an extra 6 months if I know its going to be the best way to do it, and that its not going to be riddled with bugs because they're rushing to get it out.
    I'm VERY dissapointed Apple.... Because if this continues, I won't be an Apple user anymore, beacuse it will be cheaper to buy a PC, so what if it has bugs, so does Lion, so I may as well save my money.

  • Logging in twice after wake up

    Recently I bought the latest 2013 Macbook Air. I started to notice an annoying problem which occurs when the MBA goes to sleep. The problem goes a bit like this:
    MBA goes to sleep
    I wake it up
    I am prompted for my password - I input it
    I am logged in to my desktop
    Something like 3- seconds go by
    My MBA goes back to sleep
    I wake it up again
    I am prompted for my password - I input it
    I am logged in to my desktop
    Although this is sort of harmless, it is extremely annoying.
    I am connected to an external monitor (for reference)
    Is there a fix for this?

    I believe this behavior is directly related to your external monitor.  (I have a 2013 MacBook Air without an external monitor, and have just looked at System Preferences > Energy Saver to reach this conclusion.)
    I suggest trying this - I think it will work:
    Open System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the menu bar).  Choose "Energy Saver".  Click on "Power Adapter" at the top (as I assume your computer is plugged in when this happens).  Check "Prevent computer from sleeping when display is off".

  • Preventing user logging in twice to OID

    I have an ASF application that I am using SSO to protect and authenticate against the OID (Identity Management 10.1.4)
    How can I prevent the same user id logging on more than once simultaneously ?
    Cheers,
    Brent

    This is my trigger:
    --begin of trigger
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    TRIGGER PORTAL.XX_CHECKSESSION BEFORE INSERT ON PORTAL.WWCTX_SSO_SESSION$
    FOR EACH ROW
    DECLARE v_log NUMBER;
    CURSOR c1 IS
    SELECT portal.wwctx_sso_session$.id
    FROM portal.wwctx_sso_session$
    WHERE UPPER(portal.wwctx_sso_session$.user_name) = UPPER(:NEW.user_name)
    AND portal.wwctx_sso_session$.active = 1;
    BEGIN
    v_log := 0;
    SELECT COUNT(portal.wwctx_sso_session$.active)
    INTO v_log
    FROM portal.wwctx_sso_session$
    WHERE UPPER(portal.wwctx_sso_session$.user_name) = UPPER(:NEW.user_name)
    AND portal.wwctx_sso_session$.active = 1;
    IF(v_log > 0) THEN
    --portal.WWSEC_APP_PRIV.LOGOUT;
    --portal.WWSEC_API.DEACTIVATE_PORTAL_USER(:NEW.user_name);
    FOR c1_rec IN c1
    LOOP
    portal.wwctx_sso.clear_sso_session(c1_rec.id);
    END LOOP;
    END IF;
    END;
    --end of trigger
    So i test this by logging in once with user_test and the login process is ok but when i try to logout it gives me the following "horror" and redirects me to the portal which shows the user logged in:
    "Invalid Portal Session
    An error was encountered while processing your Portal request, because your portal session is no longer valid."
    The tests were done without login of a second user.
    What's the verdict? ;)
    Thanks a lot,
    Irina

  • Weird behaviour - logged in twice?  black squares around focused objects?

    Someone else was using my laptop yesterday at work and now I'm getting some odd behaviour. Functionally, everything seems to be okay, but there is a solid black square around GUI interface objects that I focus on in the OS. And clicking on the apple menu lists two instances of Log Out username, Restart, and Shut Down.
    I tried repairing permissions and keychain access but I don't even know what to attribute this behaviour to.
    Any help would be much appreciated..
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
    Go to System Preferences > Universal Access and check the "VoiceOver" and other settings. You may need to set everything back to default to get rid of the black square.
    Not sure about the doubled menu items …

  • I have to log-in twice after waking up from sleep

    Whenever I wake up my powerbook from sleep, I log in, and the desktop comes up. However, several seconds later it goes back to sleep by itself and I have to log in a second time. Other than this my computer works fine, its just an annoyance. I'm not sure if it started when I upgraded to 10.4. Thanks for the help.

    Hey,
    I have the same issue....So I just run the maintance3.2.app (automater add on from apple website) or just just diskUtil and repair all disk and permissions it cures it for around 8 sleeps then starts again

  • IChat/AIM Logged in twice

    Hi all you clever sods.
    Ever since I ditched AOL as my ISP and went with Virgin, iChat keeps telling me that I am logged in from two locations. How? I only have one computer.
    It tells me to enter a '1' to cancel 'the other' login, and this works - until a while later when I get another message with the same complaint.
    I have told AOL to cancel all my emails, and other 'services' and they say it isn't them.
    Any ideas please - it's driving me nuts!

    Thanks, Tony.
    I cannot see such an entry in iChat preferences! (I have Leopard - might be different.) But whether multiple logins are allowed or not - where is the other login coming from?
    I seems to have a Bonjour 'account' and a .Mac account. Both ticked. This may be a red herring.
    Thanks for you very prompt reply!
    John.

  • After shutdown I have to log in twice.  The first time it starts to load, then goes black, then gives me login page again.  Do you think I have a virus?  Or is this Yosemite bug?

    Just updated to Yosemite on my MBP.  After shutdown now when I login, it starts the process (the bar starts to move), then the screen goes black, then it asks me to login again and this time it is a successful startup.  Is this a Yosemite bug or do I have a virus?  I also have some funny tiling on the screen at youtube and some other websites.  Another bug?

    Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Since upgrading to Yosemite my Macbook Pro makes me log on twice after shutting down or sleep

    I upgraded to Yosemite a while ago. Since then I must enter my system password two times when I return from the shut down status or sleep status. What is causing this?

    Do you have FileVault turned on? Based on what I've seen in the forum, that is causing the double login.

  • Logging entries appearing twice

    Hi,
    I've a problem with log4j and Apache Commons Logging that I'm hoping someone can assist with. Logging appears twice in my application logs. I've a single log4j and a single commons-logging jar on my classpath. My log4j.properties simply contains the following:
    log4j.rootLogger=ERROR, A1
    log4j.appender.A1=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
    This writes to wrapper.log in my Tomcat logs directory, with duplicate entries for each log.
    Can anyone advise me on what the problem may be here?
    THanks

    Turn off the log4j logging. If that reduces the number of copies in the log to 1 then you know that Commons logging is writing to the log as well as delegating to log4j.

  • Why do I have to login twice after sleep mode?

    Until recently I have been able to login one time with a password to get to my desktop. Now I have to login twice and I have no idea why. I am running Yosemite, whatever the newest version is. I'm not too tech savvy, but have checked every setting I can think of to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

    Just to be clear, it's not normal to have to log in twice when FV is on. If you want to try to solve that problem, ask for instructions.
