Logging after installation of lthe last Security Update

I have installed the last security update on my Imac. When the system restart instead of opening the logging window for user selection a console start (black screen) and ask for login.
Do you know how i can repair ths problem and re open my Imac
Thanks
I Mac Flower Power Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The same thing is happening to me, and I am a couple of applications I try to use "unexpectedly quit" when I open them--applications that I updated immediately after the Security Update. Also, my computer will not recognize my external La Cie hard drive! Help!

  • Difficulty with some sites after last Security update..

    anyone else had any problems?
I've found that with my bank, and a couple of other sites like myspace, Safari keeps instantly coming up with 'server cannot be found' error, without even trying to access the sites. Sometimes shift-click/return does the trick (after 10 hits!) or I end up having to reset Safari, and it'll work for a couple of visits. And even then, once I've managed to get into the site, clicking links is a chance in itself, that I don't get the same error.
My mac at work was fine (didn't do the last Security update), and all this only started after the last update..
    GAAAH!!!!

Terrible Problem, and I'm certain attributable to the latest Security Update. I have tried EVERYTHING, including deep system cache clearning, combined update, permission repairs, Purging ALL plugins from Safari, DNS cache reset... you name it. I am an EE, Mac User for 20 years, computer/Unix savvy, and am completely stumped, having tried EVERY trick in book short of the Windows Style "Reformat and Reload the Hard Disk." I can't log into gmail, or this site for that matter (using an old laptop presently). The problem occurs with the following common denominators: ASP page, Screen Name/Password dialog box, and then either a return to blank dialog page, or an endless string of redirects. THIS AFFECTS EVERY BROWSER I TRY, INCLUDING THE LATEST FIREFOX. Needless to say, this problem is driving me NUTS, and of course I can't get any help directly from Apple, since my laptop is over a year old. I doubt I would find tech help sophisticated enough anyway. Does ANYBODY have any suggestions? This is one of these maddening problems that can consume entire evenings. I wish I had never installed the latest security update.

  • My profile is "reset" after last security update.

    Hi,
yesterday I applied last security update but without rebort right after that. Then later (very long) shutdown.
Today started up, logged in and shocked - the profile is reset: desktop, all apps settings (as in "brand new" profile).
Already tried: restart of the iMac, reparing permissins, but no success. Please help!

Is nameCheck the name of the file?, an alias pointing to the file?, or a string representing the path to the file?
If it's just a name then the script won't work because the Finder doesn't know where to find the file to move. Sure you might know the file is on the Desktop, but how does the Finder know that?
What if there where 2 files on disk with the same name - which one would it move?
In other words you need to be specific, like:
    set nameCheck to "somefile.pdf"
    tell application "Finder"
move (file nameCheck of desktop) to folder myFolder
    end tell
    or maybe:
    tell application "Finder"
set nameCheck to file "somefile.pdf" of desktop
move file nameCheck to folder myFolder
    end tell
It may be that earlier versions of AppleScript/Finder mistakenly assumed which file to moved based on its name only, but that is incorrect behavior.
If my guess isn't right, then you need to provide more detail, such as the actual code that fails along with any error messages that you get.

  • G4 won't boot after last Security Update

I have an AGP G4 tower that's been running 10.4.11 fine until today. The last thing I did was Software Update. The only things on the list were an iLife update and a Security Update. I don't know the update number but since I always keep the system updated, I can only assume these two updates were the latest available.
So after the update... I hit the "restart" button but then I get the grey screen with a prohibitory sign and a spinning wheel.
It's not a hardware issue... I can reboot this machine into an alternate hard drive just fine.
    I fixed permissions.
I ran disk utility - hard disk checked out ok.
Still can't boot using this drive.
Obviously this last security update broke my system folder because it's as if it can't find a valid system.
So now the question is, what can I do to fix my system folder?
    Thank-you.

    Simple fix.
I downloaded and installed the 10.4.11 Combo Update onto original drive while booted into the alternate drive. I then downloaded and installed the Security Update 2008-0001 onto the original drive. As a precaution I repaired permissions on the original drive.
    Successfully booted into original drive.

  • After installing last Security Update 2014–002 i've had problems when trying to open some apps, as they close unespectedly. Boom, Audacity, Dropbox are some of these apps...

Yesterday (april 22) I install the last Security Update 2014–002 from the Mac App Store. After rebooting the computer, I haven't been able to run some apps I use frequently, such as Boom Device, Dropbox, Google Drive, wich didn't show in the menu bar anymore and don't run even when clicking on their icons; or apps like Audacity (open source sound editor), All2mp3 (sound files converter to mp3); and other apps bought from the Mac App Store, as Funtastic Photos. This problem affects even applications as Word, Excel and Powerpoint... I think the problem has reached it's highest levels and I would like to know what can I do in order to reverse my iMac to a "normal" life... I should say that I haven't had any problems with any of the several Web Browsers I commonly use...

I have the sam problem with Firefox and Word. Annoying, please help me. Word does not open at all(still Excel and Powerpoint do, Firefox get a lot of problems, and shuts down.

  • CD Tray open automatically after last Security Update

when I start up or restart Mymac Pro CD Tray open automatically after last Security Update. Also I could not reinstall Mac OS Tiger because CD Tray open automatically every start up or restart. What's happen? Somebody help me! Please~

    Hi.
If you have a USB keyboard and mouse, try unplugging them and then restart. If you have a Bluetooth set, remove the batteries and restart.
    See what happens.
    Good Luck.

  • IChat AV after last security update

it looks like that the last security update has made something to iChat. Everybody is having problems. My iSight in my iMac (updated) stopped streaming video in iChat after the update, while my Macbook (not updated yet) works perfectly. Any idea anybody?
    Thanks

Let me be more specific about my problem. After the security update in my iMac C2D, every time I try to do a video conference through iChat with AIM buddies my image freezes when the conference starts.
I can see and hear my buddies and they can hear me, but they don't see me. I see my image frozen. The iSight green light is on. iSight works ok with other applications and even with iChat before the conference starts.
I don't have the problem with my Mackbook using iChat with the same buddies. I have not updated the Mackbook yet with the security update.
I'm using a Bellsouth DSL modem connected to an Airport Express router. Both macs are using airport to connect to internet.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

  • Cannot start mac mini coreduo after last security update

    Hi,
after last security update mac mini cannot see anymore the new 7200 rpm hddisk which worked like a charm since that…
When try to boot now I see only a question mark folder…
I can fix permissions via dvd, I can see the mac mini disk if i connet via firewire to another mac,
    but cannot boot from it…
tried a kind of tech tool test: it seems that I've got a huge amount of corrupted .plist files…
    How could that happen?
does it mean that it's not an hardware issue?
    should I reinstall snow?
    help me please

    tmma.a wrote:
    I thought that erasing was formatting as well;
no, it's not. there is probably something wrong with the partition map of the drive which is why your mac firmware does not recognize it as a boot drive when you restart. simply erasing the drive won't fix it. reformatting might.
anyway I'm reinstalling now, if doesn't work will try reformatting too…

  • After last security update, Mail quits when trying to save and attach

Software Update installed the last security update.
Ever since, Mail quits when I try to save a message, save an attachment, copy a message and attach a file.
These are the only problems that Update caused.
Might it have to do with Java?
If so, which files must I erase so that I can re-install Java Release 6?
    What do I do?
    Firehat

Sheila, I'd try these two steps first, then maybe reapply the last update by downloading it from apple downloads instead of SW Update...

In your case the finger points at Macromedia Flash Player which, since it is not called Adobe, must be out of date.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard widgets etc also rely.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.0.4.

  • Last Security Update fried my mini!

I am getting my first ever kernal panic at startup on my mac mini, after installing the last security update!! Right after the gray screen Apple logo, I get a black screen with text that includes "bad system call"....."respawning too quickly"....etc
I started up from CD and tried to repair permissions, and some were repaired but it didn't fix the problem. Tried shutting down and unplugging everything for 30 seconds, still no fix. Hardware test says everything's fine.
I am able to startup in "safe mode".
    Any ideas?

YASU isn't on your system as standard, no, but it can be downloaded from http://jimmitchell.org/projects/yasu/
It's not surprising that repairing permissions didn't resolve the issue in itself because typically permissions issues are not the cause of kernel panics, but a common problem with updates is that if the system is in use while they are taking place, prebinding (which is being updated when the message 'optimizing system' is being shown near the end of the update installation) can be damaged, causing a variety of issues - not the least of which could be kernel panics or boot failures of more dramatic fashion.
Thus, if you can download YASU and run it in safe mode, make sure that prebinding is one of the tasks you set it to perform. After the reboot, if the system doesn't then start up correctly (and beware that reboot and startup will be much slower than usual, so leave it to complete if you don't get another panic) then boot to the original install disk again, and once again run Disk Utlity, but this time have it 'Repair Disk' instead of permissions, since it's possible you may have directory damage.

  • Strange start-up freezes since last security update.

    Hello,
I've had some strange behavior since the I applied the last security update and was wondering whether anyone else had experienced similar difficulties.
Occasionally (1 in 5 boots) my MBP experiences freezes after I have logged in, but before Finder is launched. I have left the machine run for > 15 minutes before being forced to do an un-graceful shutdown. The machine is frozen at "nebula" splash screen, with the spinning "beachball of death" but there is no menu bar, and the machine is unresponsive to any key strokes.
Console log of what appears to be the issue is included below.
    System Software Overview:
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0
    Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
    Boot Mode: Normal
    Computer Name: macbookpro
    User Name: xxxxxxxx
    Time since boot: 1:22
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with similar problems or anyone who might be able to shed some light on what is actually going on and failing.
    Thanks,
    /scott

OK, I may have gotten to the bottom of this. Admittedly I am grasping at straws here.
Firstly, the log message seemed to indicate issues with the per-user launch agents. As mentioned previously I have verified the disk via Disk Utility with no problems. However, I did not run a disk permission check. I ran that and found some minor inconsistencies. But at the end of the permission check it reported unexpected ACLs on a number of system directories, including ~/Library, which is where the the per-user Launch Agents are stored.
A quick search of the discussion forums indicate that incremental OS X updates have a habit of corrupting permissions in such a way that ACLs are reported on directories. The only way to correct this situation is to do a re-install of the COMBO pkg.
I re-installed 10.5.8_COMBO (which took awhile) and re-checked permissions. I get the same small inconsistencies (all with FrontRow), but no reported issues with ACLs. Yay!
I have rebooted about 10 times and am yet to see the problem as reported, so I am tentatively declaring victory. Obviously I realize that re-installing the COMBO update may have fixed any number of issues, none of which are related to the ACL issue reported by disk permission check, which is why I say I am grasping at straws. But this seems to have fixed my problems. I will continue to test and post results.

  • Kernel panics since last security update

Since installing the last security update I am getting frequent kernel panics and crashes.
Usually related to accessing remote samba shares while running Parallels VMs
    Anyone experience the same thing?
Using Leopard 10.5.5 with the latest updates. I have ran the hardware check and everything is fine, this only started after the last security update.
2 for 1 question: Does anyone know how to uninstall the latest security fix??

Yes, wipe the system and re-install.
Or, may be able to repair this with the 10.5.5 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • Cannot make my wifi connection since last security update

    Hi there,
    I got an iBook G4 14' and a iMac Intel 20'.
There both wifi connected on a network with a WPA key.
Since the last security update the iBook cannot connect any more.
It see my network and just say that an error occured when trying to connect to it.
The iMac have no this trouble but the update make me recreate my wpa password on it.
    Any ideas ?

Try restarting the router. Unplug it for a few seconds and plug it back in. If that doesn't work, reset it to factory defaults and enter your info/preferences again. Many routers allow you to save the configuration and reload it if need be. If yours allows that, save it after you have reset and re-entered your info.

  • File sharing Firewalled since last security update

    Hi there:
I (also) use Azureus as a file sharing program. I have my firewall on, with some ports marked as open to allow incoming connections. After installing the last security update, suddenly I am firewalled, even though nothing else has changed as far as my settings. I used to have ports 6881-6999 open for listening, tried changing to a different (higher) port - used 50001 - nothing is different.
I hope I'm explaining this correctly - and I hope someone can offer a suggestion! Proper etiquette for file sharing is to upload as much as you download, and I can't get connections through to "keep up my end of the bargain!"
    Thanks in advance,
    kris

    Hi Tim:
I am connected using a cable modem (motorola, if it matters). I remember vaguely doing terminal commands once upon a time, so I'll pull out the book and try your reset.
If I start a torrent, some peers can upload but most can not, and the Azureus reads that I have DHT firewalled and have "NAT problems."
I tried turning off the firewall in the system preferences altogether, and that didn't change the Azureus problems, either.
Sorry if my explanations don't make enough sense!
