Logging In On A MacBook Air

So my MacBook does this thing where when it wakes up from being in sleep mode, I'm not able to hear anything. The only solution for this is restarting my Mac. Once I restarted it and tried to log back in, it wouldn't accept my password. I did the whole command r thing and tried to reset it which didn't work. I made a new administrator account and tried to change the password and that wouldn't work either. I also tried the command s thing with all the command prompts and everything with no success. Any suggestions?

Troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

my login password is not working when i try to log in to my macbook air. what should I do?
    Thanks, Debora

    You can reset the password.
How you do it though depends on the version of OS X you are running.
On Lion or Mountain Lion, you use the following technique to reset the Administrators password:
Boot to your Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting, and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.
Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu ..., select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) if it is not already selected. Select your administrators username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if it is not already selected. Follow the prompts to reset the password. Restart the computer from the apple menu.
If you are using the Keychain, you will lose your existing one, and have to start a new one, unless  you remember the old password.

  • ICloud won't log in on my Macbook Air running Yosemite, says "You can't sign in at this time"

When trying to log in to iCloud, I get a "you can't log in at this time" message every time. I have no idea how to fix this issue. My password is correct since it works on my iPhone, and i have changed it too see if it would fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated since this effects me using Yosemite and my MacBook in general.

I ended up rebooting the Mac and resetting network preferences on the iPhone. Works now. It's a pity that was necessary after doing something so simple as changing my Apple ID password.
The continuity/handoff reliability situation is a little flakey at the moment (as is that with AirDrop).
Also, and the settings required to set these great technologies up are byzantine in complexity on both platforms - it's a shame, as this kind of convergent approach is Apple's chance to set itself apart, but as things stand, very few will manage to set them up.

  • IP-address on Macbook Air using VPN

I'm running Server on OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 on my iMac (mid 2010). I have no problem connecting to L2TP VPN with my iPhone 5s and my Macbook Air (early 2014 running Mavericks 10.9.3).
When I am connected to the VPN with my iPhone on the wifi at work, the IP-address is the same as my iMac's address connected to the home network. However, when checking the IP-address at work on my Macbook Air while connected to the VPN it shows the actual IP-address on the work network, not my home network.
Because of this, I'm not able to perform services that require me to be connected to my home network with my Macbook Air. This works with my iPhone.
What is the reason for this? The VPN-settings entered on my iPhone are exactly the same as on the Macbook Air.

A bit more info about the two networks please!
It sounds like there's IP Address Confilcts between the two locaitons, and your home network is confused about where the info is coming from.
What's the Internal IP Address of the server?
What's the Internal IP address of your workplace?
Are there any hints in the log files on your Macbook Air?
Does the Macbook Air even successfully connect to the VPN from work?
Will it connect to the VPN from any other networks?

  • I am unable to open my MacBook Air cause my password is not working

I am attempting to log on to my MacBook Air.  My password, which I have been using since I purchased the computer, is not working.  How can I find out why this is happening?

What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.

  • MacBook Air (mid-2011) updated to EFI 2.9.1 - now password/trackpad doesn't work properly when trying to log in from sleep.

Hi, hopefully someone can help me with an issue I've had with my mid-2011 MacBook air.
It was running fine until I installed the 2.9.1 EFI update from the app store; I believe this fixes problems caused with the 2.9 update however since installing it I've now got a problem when trying to log in. This is what happens:
I close the lid or put it to sleep.
I open the lid and the login screen appears.
The trackpad is non-responsive and I am unable to enter my password as the keyboard is unresponsive.
I then set the machine to sleep, wait a few minutes and wake it up again - still unresponsive.
The only thing that works is to hold the power key down to shut it down and start it up afresh. This time I am able to move the cursor and enter my password.
Its was perfectly fine prior to the 2.9.1 update (and I've not installed anything else in the meantime) but since the 2.9.1 update the above login problem has happened.
This is my Macbook Air's system (10.9.4) info if its of any help to anyone:
         Model Name:    MacBook Air
         Model Identifier:    MacBookAir4,1
         Processor Name:    Intel Core i5
         Processor Speed:    1.6 GHz
         Number of Processors:    1
         Total Number of Cores:    2

         Boot ROM Version:    MBA41.0077.B11
         SMC Version (system):    1.74f4
    Anyone else had similar problems?

    Hi Roj,
Since the update, I have a different problem (when the laptop is in sleeping mode,  screen turned down, fan runs after a certain...)... Did not have time to contact support yet.
One member suggested me to visit: https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
    Hope it can help...

The seller was remiss in not properly preparing the Mac for sale. That task has now fallen to you. You will encounter continual problems until you perform the following. Ignore references to DVD since the MacBook Air has none.
If you are unable to do that contact the seller and request instructions, or arrange for its return and a refund of your costs.
Refer to What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
If you enabled FileVault, disable it in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
"Deauthorize" your iTunes account. Same for Audible if you have one.
System Preferences > iCloud > de-select "Back to My Mac" and "Find my Mac".
Sign out of iCloud. Select "Delete from Mac" when it appears.
Next: Remove all your personal information by completely erasing the Mac's internal storage.
If your Mac shipped with a grey System Install DVD, start your Mac with that disc inserted in the optical drive while holding the c key to boot from it instead of its internal volume, which should be erased before selling it.
If your Mac did not ship with discs, boot OS X Internet Recovery:
using three fingers press and hold the following keys: ⌘(command), option, and R.
With a fourth finger press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Keep the other three fingers where they are until you see the "spinning globe" icon.
This method forces the Mac to download its originally installed OS from Apple's servers, which will not require an Apple ID to install.
Remove any Open Firmware password if you created one: select Firmware Password Utility from the Utilities menu and remove it.
Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Remove any partitions you may have created.
Select the Mac's hard disk icon, then select the "Erase" tab.
Select the "Security Options" button and erase the disk.
The more "securely" you erase the disk, the longer it will take.
The fastest method is sufficient since all but the most expensive techniques and equipment will be able to recover securely erased data.
When it finishes, quit Disk Utility.
Select Install Mac OS X from the Utilities menu.
An Apple ID will not be required. If a prompt for an Apple ID appears, return to Step 5.
Do not create any user accounts.
When it finishes, shut down the computer.
If you want to install the bundled apps that were included with your Mac, restart by using your Applications DVD if one was included, and install the bundled apps. Apps bundled with newer Macs that shipped without discs cannot be transferred. Its new owner must purchase them from the Mac App Store using his or her own Apple ID.
If the Mac is being sold to someone outside the family consider the following additional information:
System Install DVDs that came with your Mac should remain with it forever, and must be included with the sale.
Consider including your AppleCare certificate if you bought it, printed documentation, even the box if you still have it. AppleCare stays with the equipment and is transferable.
Execute a bill of sale showing the Mac's serial number.
Once no longer in your possession, remove the Mac from your devices in My Support Profile.

  • Unable to download crash logs from iPhone 5  into MacBook Air 10.8.4

    Hi All,
I' am new to mac world. Apologies if this is a very basic question.
I have an iPhone 5 and and I would like to download my app's crash reports into my MacBook Air 10.8.4 for further ivestigation.
    What I did was:
    1. Connect device
    2. open iTunes and click sync (sync successful)
    3. Now all my photos that I took using my iPhone are visible in Macbook's iPhotos (until this - very good)
    Now,
    4. Open up a Terminal app
    5. put ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/ to download my iPhone app's crash logs, assuming they would all have synced, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it has even got CrashReporter/MobileDevice/ forlder created in my ~/Library/Logs/ directory.
Any help to download all the iPhone 5 app crash logs into my Macbook would be really very appreciated.
(Please also let me know if I need to change any setting in my iPhone that will allow me to download my crash logs from Diagnostics section into my Macbook)
