Logging in on mac domain with windows 7

Goal- to be able to login on a mac domain using windows 7
Present network setup- Mac server (Leopard 10.5.8) is the PDC, user directory (open directory) and it has kerberos authentication
I currently have windows xp and vista clients working properly on my domain
(in other words, my domain/directory users can login just fine on xp and vista)
windows 7 is my only sore thumb right now because of the rather strange error below whenever i try to login as a domain user
"the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"
I followed the tip below to be able to join the domain-
http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-vista/unable-to-access-files-on-mac-syst em-from-windows-7/
and i have successfully joined the domain and im able to connect the networked computers in win7..
i just cant login as a domain user (note error above)
i am totally lost on whats wrong and i am surprised that vista works on my domain (since win7 is vista's cousin)
any thoughts on what my issue is?
Thanks
and gold stars to whoever can help

what version is samba/smb on leopard?
and does apple push out the upgrade or does that come with snow leopard?
i pulled the event log on win7 when i tried to log in

  • Doe's the mac come with windows 7?

Does the MAC come with windows 7?

No. You can run Windows on a Mac in several different ways, but all require that you purchase Windows separately. Apple only supplies the Windows drivers needed to integrate with the Apple hardware.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Bridge Mac server with Windows possible?

    Hello Everyone,
Well I was tossed a big issue on my lap. Our servers are running Windows Server 2003 with a domain name of nt_domain which you could tell off the back it has an invaild character with the _ . A gentlemen before me found a bandaid of using this program called Likewise which allowed the Mac's to join the domain with the illegal character. He left me with an image of 10.7 with the Mac already configured. Well the new iMac's do not support 10.7 which my image is now worthless and 10.8 doesnt seem to like the Likewise program. The program gets an error when trying to join the domain and completely locks me out of the Mac and I mean LOCKS ME OUT because no reset password method works which forces me to reload the OS. I have no idea what to do because our network team doesn't seem to care about the issue so they will no change the domain name. We have a Mac Server 10.6 and I was told that I could make my own domain on the server and bridge it to the Windows domain so the users could still have access to the network drives. Any suggestions????
    Thanks

You probably have inadvertently set up SACL's.
    In server admin
    Select the server.
Click the Access button at the top.
    Click the services button.
Make sure that all services are available for all users.
Or if you're keen, make sure that you have allowed access to SMB for the users in question.

  • Installing mac os on Mac book with windows xp

Hi I have a mac book a1278 with windows xp on it, i want to install os x 10.4 that came on 2 cds, but when I put CD and choose to boot from it, the mac book just keeps restarting itself, I have also tried this with external drive and the results are the same.
    Can anyvody help?

An A1278 Mac is a 13 inch MacBook Pro, unibody design, from 2009 to 2012. The OS version you are trying to install is too old for that type of Mac.
Take the Mac to an Apple Store and see what they say.

  • Networking Mac Pro with Windows 7

I have been trying to network my PC that has windows 7 home edition on it with my Mac Pro snow leopard. The mac can not see the windows machine, and the windows machine can not access the mac. They are on the same network (apple extreme wireless router.) Before I got the windows machine, I had a dell with windows XP on it and it worked fine, but as soon as I got this new windows machine with windows 7, it does not work. Has anyone run into this problem? anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks

    well...i have the same problem.
since my mac (running snow leopard) isn't able to see the windows 7 pc neither, i'm only able to connect to my pc thru "go" -> "connect to network" and then entering smb://"ip-adress" . not very elegant but at least it works....
    any better solutions??
    thanks!!

  • Connecting mac mini with windows

I am trying to connect my mac mini with a windows laptop, to share a printer and some files. My mac mini works fine with my macbook, but when I try to connect to the laptop, or viceversa, I can get it to work. I am ussing the mini a the server so I want the laptop to share the printer, but I can find a way to make it work. How do I make my mini to recognize the windows laptop? I tried connecting both directly with a ethernet cable, but nothing. I will like them to work throgh my wireless network, but I do not know how. HELP!!!

Firstly, confirm both the Mac mini and the Windows laptop are in the same Windows Workgroup. The Windows Workgroup is set using the Directory Access utility (Applications > Utilities) under SMB/CIFS. Also, make sure Windows File Sharing is turned on and your Firewall is set correctly.

  • Problems with Aluminum Mac Keyboard with Windows 7

I am able to yuse the key board with Windows 7 but not all the functionality is there. For instance I can not use the volume controls or the function keys or the number pad. When I check the drivers it shows the right keyboard. Any ideas?

Because this seems like more of a Windows 7 issue and not an iMac issue I would recommend you repost to the appropriate forum. For example if you are using Boot Camp then go to that forum or if you are using Parallel's that forum etc.

  • ACS Server MAC Authentication with Windows Database

Has anyone setup an ACS Server 3.2 for MAC authentication using Windows as the authentication. The documentation I found shows how to set it up using the CiscoSecure database. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the link for setting up MAC authentication using CisoSecure database. There may not be a solution for my setup, but maybe I'll keep hacking away at it and find a resolution.

  • I've overwritten my Mac OS with Windows Vista, how can I get my Mac OS back

I Was downloading a Windows Vista OS on my Mac and I accidentally deleted the Mac OS. How can I get my Mac OS back? Can I use the CD's accompanied with my MAC
when I put the DVD to Install the MAC system from vista...It doesnt give an option for ordinary installtion but it gives me an option for remote installtion (which it needs an network or internet connection or something like that...) what should i do ??
    :(:(

You need to repartition the drive. While booted from the DVD, select Utilities > Disk Utility from the menu bar. In Disk Utility, select the boot drive from the list on the left. It will have a long name starting with the capacity in GB. Click on the Partition tab. Choose "1 Partition" as the volume scheme. Click on the Options button near the bottom of the window, then click on the button labeled "GUID Partition Table." Finally, click Apply. When the partition finishes, you can quit Disk Utility and go back to the Installer. You should now see your internal drive as available for installation.

  • File Sharing With OS X 10.5 - Share Mac Files with Windows Vista

I am a new user of iMac and I was finally able to connect to my home network with the help of this web site:
    http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharemacfilesvs.htm
Thanks to Tom Nelson of About Macs.com, I previously had to search the Apple Support pages for help with this to no avail. Then I called the Apple Express case # 232117496 and spent 1-hour on the phone with the tech who could not solve the problem. He finally said it was something to do with my Windows network setting indicating that it probably had a stealth password set. I did not agree and was finally able to get help from About.com. I will be adding this site for future issues with Macs, thanks Tom

I reset my TC and everything was wonderful.

  • Sync Mac Entourage with Windows Exchange 2003

I have to maintain both my mac for personal use and my PC for my job. The calendar on my PC is where most of my meetings are entered and log from business collegues. However I would like to merge my business calendar in Exchange with my personal calendar on my mac via Entourage.
Can this be done? I am not interested in placing my personal calendar in my business calendar. I actually only want it to go one way, business to personal.
Any hope for me in this bi-computer world that I live in?

Just setup an Exchange account in Entourage and move your appointments from one calendar to another.
For specific instructions, search Entourage's built in Help files or post your questiion on Microsoft's own Office:Mac disucssions:

  • Mac loaded with Windows, but now Windows password is corrupted

I partitioned my Mac 3 years ago and used Bootcmp to load Windows 7 on it.  Have been opening it with the same password for 3 years.  All of a sudden, the password will not work and Windows does not recoganize my profile or my password.  I did not create a password recovery disk, since it was never suggested and Windows has always worked without any problems.  Now I cannot access Windows at all.  Suggestions?

Hopefully NO ONE has had access to your computer, the reason I say this is ( I have never heard of a computer changing the settings to no longer use or to change a password all by itself.  Shut the machine clear off and wait a bit then restart the computer and try to open windows again.
