Logging in to an existing MSN account from MAC when MSN is ISP

Hey,
I'm brandy new to MAC. Just out of the box I tried to log in to my MSN account. MSN is my ISP. It dials in, starts to authenticate but then disconnects. Can any one tell me if this can be fixed or is there some MAC/MSN thing going on here that can't be resolved?

Placed a Bug report and it's apparently a known issue that
seems to be not worth fixing. So I'm stuck with what is a
sub-standard operating system.
Is it just me or is Apple releasing OS after OS just for the
sake of releasing an OS? It's not giving any particular
release a chance to mature. Last year it was Mavericks,
before that it was Lion and this year it's Yosemite!

The SMTP server you are using with Wi-Fi would be the outgoing server of your internet service provider... this is likely why that's working.
SMTP servers specific to a ISP would not work on the 3G network. You would probably need another SMTP server. One from your cell provider?

If your device is signed into an old ID of yours that is an earlier version of the ID you want to sign in with, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless you are using iCloud Photo Library). When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

depend on the document program more then anything else really
when ever I open a doc with word it make a history for undo and redo action file in the same dir
with bootcamp you only have read not write access to the osx partition so it would fail to be able to create that file
but if you can get word or whatever program you use to open the file not to place a temp file in the same dir
or use a program which did not make any type of temp file or used a program where the temp file would be located elsewhere where you decide it would work file

Still want a solution for me to use my previous existing SYNC account (from my XP comp., for which I have the security key) on my new WIN 8.1 computer.

My old XP computer died. When I loaded FireFux on my new WIN 8.1 computer, "I never got the option to enter my old security key to activate my existing SYNC account on my new computer."
At this point I am so disillusioned with FireFux' SYNC feature that I won't even try to activate it on my new computer. "SYNC is nothing more than a crutch made of Papier Mache; after you are using it for a while getting around pretty well, it will suddenly become non-functional and be found to be beyond repair."

Remove Existing iTunes Account from New iPod

Hi,
We have a new iPod Touch for my daughter. I am hoping to be able to set up an account for her without use of a credit card, and thanks to previous posters who have all pointed to the appropriate Apple Support page to do this.
However, when we were setting up the new iPod, we did put in the existing account for which the nominated credit card had expired. Now whenever we try to upload free Apps, we are being requested to provide updated credit card details which I don't want to do via the iPod.
Is there a way to delete the existing account from the new iPod and add the new "free" account (or at least add this new account)?

May be the festive spirit that has been playing havoc with my eyes, but I can't seem to find anything in the instructions from the link above that tells me how to delete an account from the iPod, only via the iTunes store.
The problem is that I need to remove the previously added account on the iPod to try and replace with a new "free Apps" account.
Would I need to delete the account on iTunes first and set up a new "free Apps" account which would then force the iPod to seek a new login/account?

To do this on someone else's device that already has an iCloud account without them losing any data do the following:
First have them save any photo stream photos that are over 30 days to their camera roll by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.
Go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, and choose Delete from My iPhone (iPad, iPod). Their iCloud data will still be in iCloud and will reappear on their device when they sign back in.
Go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your Apple ID to create your new account. Do not turn on any data syncing with the account and do not choose Merge with iCloud as you do not want to merge any of their data with your new account.
Tap Delete Account to delete your new account from their device, then have them sign back in with their ID and their iCloud data will reappear on their device.
You can then go to Settings>iCloud on your device and sign into the new iCloud account that you just created.

Since your users are not using Macs to log in, this option is useless to you.

This gives you a web-facing 'change password' page which can be used from any web browser. However, even this option will not work if you set the 'require password change at next login' option. No, it makes no sense to me either.

I had a family account with .mac which allowed me to have multiple e-mail addresses. One of thoes e-mail addresses is now inaccesible/inactive since the transition, and I'm not sure how to make it work again? The main e-mail account works fine. . . .

hey all,
i fried my Macbook. it's wrecked.
while i save for another i plan on borrowing my sister's computer (she's going overseas for 3 months).
Now im sure the HD of my Macbook is fine, and my mum has one too. So i want to take the HD out of hers (apparently this wont void the warranty) and put my HD into it, booting it from mine, so that it is essentially my computer.
Then i want to transfer my account details to my sister's iMac - but i dont want to wipe her account off. I just want to add an account to her iMac, that account being the one that was on my Macbook (via my mum's Macbook).
How can i do this? Can i do it? Does it matter that my Macbook (and therefore my account) was running OS 10.5, while her iMac is on OS 10.4?
Id love to hear back from anyone that can help. I haven't had much luck so far... my Macbook was only a few months old, and i was literally a week from insuring it when i bumped a glass of orange juice.... you can imagine the rest : (

Leopard itself, unlike Tiger, is a "universal boot" OS - it does not come in separate Intel and PPC versions. So if you can get your MacBook HD image cloned onto an APM-formatted external Firewire drive, it MIGHT still boot and run in the G5 iMac.
You said you got an external drive - did you mean a Firewire enclosure which now holds the MB HD?
If so, you could now obtain another external Firewire drive, not just an enclosure. They are quite cheap at OWC (much cheaper than another computer) and can be put to good use later for backup whatever happens.
Then the idea would be to connect the new empty drive to the G5 iMac, and use Disk Utility there to partition it as APM if it is not already that way. Then also connect the FW enclosure containing your MB HD. From the G5, use a program like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the old GUID-partitioned MB volume (source) to the new APM-partitioned external drive volume (target).
Next try to boot from the new external drive, and cross your fingers!
Again this might not work, but an external FW drive is always a good investment for future backup.
You mentioned an eMac - if you want to try it instead of the G5, be sure it meets the requirements for Leopard.

Can't remove MobileMe/iCloud account from Mac Mail

I don't use my MobileMe email address for email, so I have it forwarded to my Gmail address that I do check. Previously, any alerts that went to that account (reminders that I set in iCal, which I sync to my Google Calendar, and alerts when I use Find My Phone or Find My iPad) were routed to the Gmail address, because that's where I was forwarding the .Me email.
However, ever since transitioning over to iCloud, those alerts are popping up in Mail, which I don't use. I've gone into Mac Mail and deleted the iCloud account, but as soon as there's a new message the account gets created again and Mail opens up and displays the alert as an email message. The messages are not forwarded to my Gmail account, despite it showing in preferences in iCloud > Mail that I have the "forward mail" box checked and the correct Gmail address still in there.
Any ideas on this? I need to receive these alerts but I don't use my Mobile Me email address for anything else and I don't want to have to log into my computer to open Mail and see if I got an alert.

Typically, right after I posted this, I managed to do it!!
For the benefit of anyone else: rather than choosing Yahoo from the menu, I clicked 'Add Another Account' (thinking I could manually add the IMAP settings|) and it worked...didn't even need to input them myself...

Now, I create a new email account on my macbook and I cannot figure out how to import this new mail account on the iPhone. Could you help me please?

Correct.
You create the account in mail on your Mac & on your phone. Since it's an exchange account, they will both be kept in sync. When you select sync mail accounts in iTunes, it's only the account settings that are synced, no actual messages are synced at all. You normally only do this one to transfer the account settings to your phone.

I previously had a mobilme account, then it merged with the icloud but it did so using the account information from mobileme. I had already set up an account on my phone using my account name @ mobileme.com. The account with mobileme was set up using account [email protected] Now when I sign in th icloud using my account name @me.com it tells me that this is not my primary account. You cannot sync multiple iCloud accounts to one.
How have you managed to get 3 accounts? One is all you need per person.
