Logging in to Blackberry Protect from a BB

Why can I not log in to Blackberry Protect on the web from a BB smartphone?  I have two BBs and if one is lost, it would be very handy to be able to trace/lock/wipe it from the other (or any other BB for that matter) using BB Protect.

Hi pawp
The BlackBerry® Protect™ website is designed to be accessed from a computer's web browser and not from the BlackBerry® smartphone itself.
Thanks

    Hello !
    Try the following:
Connect your device to WiFi and then try to access App World.
If still your problem persists, then
There is an alternate if you facing problem to directly download it from Appworld to your device.
Connect your BlackBerry Smartphone through USB cable to Internet enabled Laptop/Desktop.
    Now open the following link:
    http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/
In this on top right sign in with your existing BlackBerry ID.

I am trying to decipher your question. I had to use Googlle Translate.
For Blackberry Protect to work, your Blackberry ID has to be registered and active. From what I can understand it was previously working for you.
If your phone is out of range of mobile service, when you log in to Blackberry Protect with your computer via the Internet the Protect will not be able to locate your phone or know its status. As soon as the phone is able to have mobile service the Protect will be active again.
If the battery in the phone is run down, or if the phone is fully powered off the Protect cannot work.
If the phone is lost and is out of mobile service range and you send a wipe or a screen message, the affects you sent will only be activated as soon as the phone comes in to mobile service range.
If I remember correctly, if the phone receives WiFi service the wipe or whatever commands you sent would take place. Without GPS or mobile service the phone's location cannot be estimated. But, the IP numbers for any service the phone is using, as like WiFi, will be logged on the server that is providing the service.
If you have valuable information on your phone, I strongly suggest you use a strong password. Follow the general recommended rules about making a password that is not easy to guess, and is of one you will NOT forget. Lock your phone when it is not being used. Ideally set the password timeout for as short a period you can tolerate.
With Blackberry, a lost password is not recoverable. After 10 wrong attempts (by default), the phone will be wiped and locked. The operating system would have to be re-installed to get the phone back in to operation. If you don't know the password any backups that were done under the password cannot be recovered. All will be lost unless you can find the password.
Google Tanslate Used For The Response Below:
I discovered tonight is that BlackBerry Protect (0:10) was offline alone? When I wanted to set 10 seconds after the window open, see screen capture below
The problem will come to blackberry and not just because my other Z10 was also disconnected my Blackberry automatically reconnects them.
The Z10 is obliged to have reconnected manually?
Is on the move I do not understand why not keep the automatic reconnection of service?

  • Trying to Install Blackberry Protect on Bold 9900

    Hello,
    I have a bold 9900 with 7.1.0 software installed.
I downloaded and installed blackberry protect from app world, however, i am unable to activate the software.
I cannot find the icon anywhere on my device. Does this mean i must have blackberry 10 software installed on my phone to be able to use this app?
Is there a way to install blackberry protect on my device? If so, step by step instructions will be grealty appreciated.
I found a third party software online named gadget trak but it cost $20 per year. I rather use software designed by blackberry for copatability and security reasons.
    Your advice is grealty appreciated.
    Happy New Year

No, BlackBerry10 does not install to and cannot be installed to a 9900.
And, BB10 is not required for Protect to run.
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
You will be looking for an icon of a goldish-yellow shield, or sometimes it is a black shield.
If you still don't see it:
    1. On your homescreen, press the Menu key > SHOW ALL, so that SHOW ALL is checked.
    2. Look in EACH folder on your device... Applications, Instant Messengers, Downloads, etc.
If you still don't see it, look at Options > Advanced > Applications. Do you see it listed there?

  • How to restore my data from the blackberry protect back up archive

Hi, my phone recently crashed, so I reloaded my OS & tried restoring my data from the blackberry protect app but noticed I could only restore from my last backup. I'd like to restore from another backup point in my archive & not my last. How do I go about it?

Only backups which are displayed can be restored to your phone. If you don't see any older ones, something might have gone wrong with the backups being loaded to the site. Perhaps you have an older backup done with BlackBerry Desktop Software which you could reload?
    Cheers.

  • Restoring from blackberry protect on my old phone

    Hi,
I need to restore a backup on my old phone from Blackberry Protect, but I do not have a data service since it has been moved on my new Z10.  how can I retrieve the data?  I do have a wifi connection on the device!
    Thanks,

    Hello,
You cannot. On a legacy BB, you must have an active and adequate BIS account so as to have any use of the proprietary services, including BB Protect.

  • Restoring data onto new blackberry from Blackberry Protect, last restore was from my stolen Blackberry Style 9670

Help!  My Blackberry Style 9670 (BB OS 6) was stolen.
My data was backed up daily by Blackberry Protect and nowhere else.
Will newer Blackberry Phones be able to access and restore my data from Blackberry Protect, or must I find me a refurbished BB OS 6 phone or?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If your phone is running OS 7 or earlier, you'll be able to access that data backup; BB10 phones cannot restore data from BlackBerry Protect.
    BB10 phones are the Z10, the Z30, the Q10 and the Q5.
    Cheers.

  • Getting back contacts from Blackberry Protect

so my Blackberry has broken and im getting rid of it but all my contacts are saved on the BB.
they are backed up on Blackberry Protect online but how do i get the contacts from BB protect to my SIM card???

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The only way to do exactly as you request would be via another BB...restore from BB Protect, and then copy (one by one) your contacts from that BB to the SIM. BB Protect backups can only be used to restore to a BB...there is no other usage of that method of backup.
The Desktop Software, on the other hand, offers more robust access to your data. For instance, you can obtain a PC-based 3rd party BBB/IPD parsing app. Further, with Desktop Software prior to 7.0, you can export your contacts to CSV on your PC.
In any event, if all you have is BB Protect backup, then there only solution is as I've said above.
    Good luck!

  • HELP!!! How do i cancel a wipe from BlackBerry protect?

I lost my phone and signed into BB Protect.  BB Protect was unable to connet to my phone but I did set a phone wipe for when my phone was connected to a network.  I have now found my phone and I want to cancel the phone wipe that I set.  I see on my phone that my BB protect has recently been upgraded and I hadn't logged into BB protect and acceted Terms and Conditions so effectively BB protect wasn't active on my phone.  Now if I log in to BB protect on my phone and accept the terms and conditions will the wipe still happen? Advice appreciated!

    Hi sassythom
You can delete or archive this device, but data related to that device will be lost. And I am unsure if it will stop the wipe process as soon as you login with the same BlackBerry I'd, but you can try it and see what happen.

  • How to find a lost BlackBerry 10 smartphone using BlackBerry Protect

Posted originally on the Inside BlackBerry Help Blog
It’s a scenario no one wants to encounter but here’s a quick overview how you can help locate your BlackBerry 10 smartphone using BlackBerry Protect if you can’t find it.
Tip: Using a BlackBerry OS device? Check out this post for help locating your device using BlackBerry Protect.
Step 1 – Enable BlackBerry Protect and turn on Location Services
To locate your smartphone you must enable BlackBerry Protect and turn on Location Services.
After you turn on Location Services, your smartphone only sends its location information when you request it through the BlackBerry Protect website, or when your battery power is low.
Swipe down from the top of the screen
    Tap  Settings > BlackBerry Protect
Set the BlackBerry Protect switch to On
    Tap Location Services
Set the Location Services switch to On
Tap  Back to save your change
Step 2 – Log in to the BlackBerry Protect website
After you enable BlackBerry Protect and turn on Location Services, complete the following steps to view the location of your smartphone on a map.
Log in to the BlackBerry Protect website located at http://protect.blackberry.com
    Click View Location
BlackBerry Protect will attempt to locate your smartphone
If your smartphone can be located, a map appears similar to the following showing the approximate location:
If you still can’t find your smartphone at the reported location, use the Play Sound option within the BlackBerry Protect website. This option makes your smartphone ring loudly for one minute as well as activating the Loud profile.
Help! BlackBerry Protect can’t locate my smartphone!
To locate your device it must be turned on and connected to the wireless network.
Because BlackBerry Protect also uses GPS, you may not locate your smartphone if it is inside a building, underground, or otherwise blocked from receiving a satellite signal.
