Loggon Application Failure - Blue screen

Hope somebody can help. Basically I am unable to boot my iMac, It gets as far as the blue screen and then hangs.
I rebooted in verbose mode and it goes all the way through to ‘Loggon Application Window Started’ and I get the nice blue screen and a cursor appears. After a few a short interval the blue screen flashes black and then back to the blue screen. Nothing else happens, this repeats until I press the power off button.
I have rebooted from the Leopard installation disk and used the disk utility to verify the hard drive, all is well. I have also verified permission for the hard drive, again all is well.
Anybody got any further suggestions?
Thanks
Keith

Eventually I had to bite the bullet and re-install leopard and apply all the upgrades. Its now back up and running but I'm not sure what the actual problem was or what caused it but a re-install does correct it.

  • Installing AIR application gives blue screen of death

I tried installing an Adobe AIR application called HelloWorld.air from a book entitled "Adobe Flex 3 Training from the Source", and I would get the Windows' blue screen of death. I've seen others post about this, so I know I am not alone. My operating system is Windows XP Professional SP 2 and above.
This issue is preventing me from even getting into Adobe AIR application development, and I was wondering when a fix for this will be made. I tried downloading the Adobe AIR runtime again, but it is still the same byte size as the previous one I downloaded, so I'm assuming it's still the same one (since it doesn't state any version number).
Is there anyone who has had this problem and was eventually able to work with Adobe AIR? Any response would be immensely appreciated.
    Thanks.

I remember when I was getting BSODs the first time I tried installing an
.AIR application on my laptop, I got that "Send Error Report" window from
Microsoft, and I had clicked to send it. It came back with a report stating
that this was being caused by anti-virus software. This time around, I
turned off my anti-virus software (from CA, or Computer Associates) I
downloaded your application and tried to install it, and once again, I only
got as far as where I could select to save an icon to my desktop and/or to
launch the application after install, and when I clicked the "Install"
button, I got the BSOD right away.
I went the extra mile this time though. I installed Adobe AIR and your
application on another desktop that is totally clean with absolutely no
antivirus software whatsoever, not even a software firewall. I got the same
BSOD at the exact same spot.
I know Adobe knows about this because of a past thread I had not only read,
but responded to as well. It's just unfortunate it hasn't been fixed yet
because I'm really raring to start writing Adobe AIR apps.
By the way, Damon, your app looks nice, I just wish I had been able to
install it to see what it's all about. Lastly, thank you for responding to
my issue. I will report this as a bug on that link you gave me.

On startup Mac Pro I get a blue screen and a cursor on the upper left. The mouse cursor shows up independently. Is it likely a video card failure?

I managed to boot the computer and get the desktop to show. I now have a "repaired" computer. There are several problems that have cropped up. One is that I can only start up now in Safe Boot mode. Is there a way to turn it off? Also, I do not have a sound list, so I can't access anything requiring audio. Google Chrome only shows up as a white screen. Pictures that loaded before don't load in browsers, etc. Any suggestions? I figure I should reinstall Mac OS Lion for starts, maybe even do a mirror backup and reformat the drive. I think this drive has turned into scrambled eggs...what a headache!

  • OS 10.4.5 failure to startup-login window/ black screen/ blue screen-frozen

    Hi there,
To anybody that can help me, I thank you very much indeed in advance.
G4 Powerbook, 1.5gHz, 2gb Ram (1gb kingston ram added since purchase date), OS 10.4.5, security update 2006-002 (v1.1 (?) recently installed).
My current problem is that i cannot log into OS X. It boots as far as the login window, which is unresponsive, and then it then flicks to a black screen with 2 or 3 lines of white text and then flicks to a totally 'mac-blue' screen with the black arrow pointer still active.
    A history of my problem;
    1) Yes, unfortunately I tried to get front row to work on my machine (the hack with the front row enabler etc), and subsequently removed all traces of it after it screwed up a few things (menu bar missing, failure to restart). This tidy-up involved doing something with system library, bezel services...etc.
    2) I recently installed the first version of security update 2006-002. i am not saying this is the cause, but sometime after I did this, things started going wrong again. another thing i did recently which i hadnt in the past was to have itunes appear at startup and a few days later i emptied my hard drive of all my music and had this linked to a lacie 250gb via firewire 800. The problem at this was that login/startup was incredibly slow and sometimes the finder would keep relaunching itself on its own once the operating system was up and running. Also, when i tried safe boot, the login window would appear and then it would flick to a black screen. it would let me type in a username, but it would not let me input anything for the password.(I did use disk utility to repair permissions when i did manage to logon).
This whole problem seemed to go away for a day or two, but the login was still slower than usual the past few days.
I then turned on my powerbook this morning and login was extremely long and never completed fully- lots of pinwheel spins, menu bar not loading, itunes not appearing.
    After a few forced shutdowns I left the computer for maybe 5-10 mins and it seemed to sort itself out after a few finder relaunches etc, and so i tried a few things;
    3) I tried installing the newer version of the security update 2006-002 version 1.1 i think? At the same time i took itunes off the startup launches and also switched off auto login for my account (a silly idea it seems).
Since restarting from the security update, the operating system gets to the login window, which is unresponsive, and then it then flicks to a black screen with 2 or 3 lines of white text and then flicks to a totally 'mac-blue' screen with the black arrow pointer still active.(this is with the power adaptor connected only, no other cables etc)
I have tried Resetting PRAM, and using fsck, although I am slightly unsure as to whether or not this is useful to me anyway. I cannot reinstall the operating system until next week as my mum has my copy of tiger at home a few hundred miles away!
Any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, especially on the eve of my two year anniversary with my powerbook!
    Kind regards,
    Henry Harker

    Hi Henry
I've just encountered this problem with one of our computers at work. Hopefully this will help.
It's a Login Window Prefs problem. It's probably corrupted so you need to remove the prefs file.
    1. Startup in safe mode (hold down shift). You should get a login window for the master admin account.
    2. Delete the file: userName>Library>Preferences>com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    3. Restart.
Let me know how you go.
    Cheers

  • Blue screen of death while installing any Adobe Air application

Whenever I try to install an Air application I get a  Blue Screen and then my system restarts.
I cannot even take a screenshot  of it.
This happens with every air application I try to install.
I also searched for the same on Adobe forums and found the same problem being faced by someone else.
His problem was resolved by uninstalling a software named "Folder Lock".
I searched my hard disk for this software and found one, so I deleted  that software (shift+delete) and removed all it's traces from registry  too but that still doesn't solved the problem.
I also tried disabling the antivirus software and then install the air application but this also didn't helped.
I was able to install air applications earlier, but now I can't.
Anybody having same sort of problem. One colleague of mine is also having the same problem.
    Please help me out.
My system's config is as follows:
    Windows XP Home sp3
Flash Builder 4, with SDK 4.1, 3.5 installed in it.
    Adobe Air v 2.5
    1.5 GB RAM
    1.66 MHz processor
    Thanks

    Hello chris,
Thank you for taking out your time to solve my problem.
I did all the steps mentioned in that link i.e. installed folder lock and uninstalled it from it's options only.
But it didn't solve my problem.
Here is the screenshot of the Blue Screen Of Death that I was presented while the application was being installed.
The BSOD appeared while the application install progress is shown to the end user.
I hope this will help you get more insight of the issue.
    Thanks

  • Opening Word-- blue screen-- all applications shutting down?

Hi everyone! Today I closed my laptop to put it in sleep mode, it was not connected to power.
I came back an hour or so later, opened it up, and entered my password to log in. It started to log in and then I got a blue screen! In a few seconds it brought me back to my desktop, but all of the applications had shut down and Mail (which starts automatically) was opening and asking me for my passwords.
I thought that was weird behavior so I got my external hard drive and attempted to back up my computer. I started Googling the problem and then Safari randomly quit. I tried to email a paper I'm working on to myself, and I got the blue screen again! I plugged my computer in, hoping that would help. However, I got the blue screen two or three times before I was able to get a current backup. Each time the blue screen popped up, all of the applications would be shut down by the time the desktop came back.
EDIT: Ok, it definitely seems to be a problem with Microsoft Word. Every time I open it, the blue screen comes up! Such a pain. I'm going to Google it and try to work this out, but if anybody has any insights please let me know!
SECOND EDIT: Sorry to be such a pain, but I thought I had figured it out and then it happened randomly again! If anyone has dealt with this before, please let me know!

If the problem only occurs with MS Word then it's clearly a Word issue. Please repost at the MS Office forum located at:

  • Itunes 8 results in a blue screen failure when my iphone is linked

I have just upgraded to itunes 8. My non Apple applications appear to work. I can also open up itunes 8. Upon linking my iphone to my computer, I get a blue screen crash similiar to the one reported by Nealf. I have uninstalled and reinstalled version 8 which has not resolved the problem. Does anyone have a solution? Apple has informed me that after upgrading, I am unable to revert back to itunes 7.x. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am having the same problem! I went to the help center at my school and they had no solution and told me that it was a problem with my ipod so i took my computer (lenovo thinkpad) and my ipod to the ipod store in my area. Once i was there they told me it was my computer and that i needed to get my USB ports fixed. I called the support line for my computer and talked to them for at least 45 mins!! i then pluged in my room mates ipod into my computer and it worked fine but as soon as i pluged mine in it blue screaned again!!! so i then went back to the apple store and they said that my itunes was not the right one and that my ipod software was not up tp date! I got mad and asked them how i was expected to update my ipod if i couldnt plug it into my computer so they updated it for me and then i came home and re installed my itunes into my computer but it still didnt work! I am taking my computer and my ipod into the apple store again tomorrow!!!

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

  • Application Enhancer and Blue Screen

I have had Leopard running for a few weeks on my iBook G4 now with no problems.
Last night I wanted to listed to some music through my Airport Express but I don't like the way Airtunes drops the connection if I am switching songs and take a couple of second to do it.
So I started up Airfoil and it asked if I wanted to install Instant Hijack. I said yes.
    BIG MISTAKE!
Application Enhancer is apparently used to run Instant Hijack and one or the other trashed my system. It would never get past the blue screen at the startup even after being left to startup for an hour.
DO NOT try to run these programs on Leopard until they are updated they will trash the system.
I spent this morning trying everything to recover the system and finally gave up and reinstalled the system.

    Hi,
this is a known problem. Logitech keyboard/mouse drivers also use APE. You might want to know that there's even a support document about this. So the next time you run into a problem like this you won't need to reinstall everything. Take a look:

  • Blue screen on startup- only application accessible is iTunes by hitting f8 osx 10.6.8, Safe booting works but otherwise no login screen comes in, is this maybe a popad malware thing? what should I do

when starting up I get a blue screen with no dock, I can access some application by hitting f8 which opens iTunes, from there i use the apple icon in upperleft to go to recent items.  There is trouble printing from application or web sites.  IF this is a malware thing what should i try to fix it?

Perhaps however what we need is a EtreCheck report of the system if you can. Please download and post your EtreCheck report and we can then look for obvious issues.

    Hi sebastian24,
Welcome to the HP Forums! You mentioned the Caps Lock keys stays on, does it flash at all? If so how many flashes in the pattern? This will help us determine the cause of the errors. These blue screens are commonly referred to as a Blue Screen of Death and can be quite difficult to fix. If you just purchased it you should still be in warranty, I recommend that you call HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or visit the link below if you are outside North America.
