Hey there ... also looking to try and convert Logic 4.8 file into either Logic 6 or higher ... I currently have Logic 8 ... could I bother u for assistance also ... if not I understand
cheers
Sorry, I'm out touring right now and don't have access to my machine with the older Logic on it.
Are you sure you don't have anyone with Logic version 7 available... that should work.

  • Reason - multiple stereo rewire to logic song templates anyone?

    Hi,
    I'm a recent convert to (intel) iMac/Logic Pro/Reason from PC/Cubase/Reason.
After a whole weekend of head scratching, manual reading & forum browsing I've finally managed to set up a working environment with reason 3.05 rewired to logic - I have setup the main stereo L&R & Multiple mono channels from reason as well as a number of internal rewire objects to act as instruments.
I've read that its possible to go further & actually create rewired 'stereo' channels, which only need 1 effect added per pair. As far as i can understand this is done by creating two mono channels, panned hard L&R then linking to aux object/buss object then only making the aux (or buss?)object available in the arrange/track mixer page?
Only thing is.. i can't get these stereo channels to work - As i mentioned, I'm new to MAC & logic (although have studied manual in depth) so it may be a rudimentary error in my environment set up or my understanding of aux/buss object behaviour, but i need to get working with reason asap so wondered if anyone has done this already & could either post a simple walkthrough or maybe email a song template so i could copy & paste the stereo rewire layer?
I've already found a page online for some one (http://www.stormchild.net/music/reasonwithlogic.html ) who had done this but with Logic 6 but doesn't seem to work with my intelmac & logic 7.2.1 (& in fact when i loaded his autoload it 'removed' my focusrite saffire from available interfaces & i had to unplug it & restart the mac to get it back)
Any help would be much appreciated

    Intel iMac 20'   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi,
Apostol, I do a ton of midi programming & although I'm a massive reason fan the sequencer doesnt do it for me - I've used reason for sounds & beats very happily rewired to cubases sequencer (on PC) for years now.
Got Guitar, I'm impressed (if a little scared!) at your local knowledge of my little hometown, & thanks for the book recomendation & offer of your templates. The rewire templates in logic (on 7.2.1 at least) don't deliver the goods for reason, at least with my intel iMac.
I've since sucessfully set up an environment with a number of mono chammels (& L&R rewire on masterL&R) which works well in that it shows the reason device name in the channel menu on arrange page but it's just creating these 'stereo' tracks that i'm stuck on.
I think I have made some progress late last night as follows.... Obviously reason (with the exception of hardwire interface 1&2 (L&R)outputs isn't designed to output in stereo but so far I've created a number of 'stereo tracks' (2 x audio objects panned L&R), assigned their channels to reason hardware interface outputs 33-34, 35-36 etc etc, & I've then connected each of these 'panned pairs' in the environment to a stereo aux object by assigning the in/out on their audio objects to a buss number then assigning this buss to the relevant aux (so i only have to use one effect/fader per pair).
This setup works great in that i just need, in reason, to assign an instruments output directly to the suitable hardware interface outputs (ie 33-34) & it plays through this new stereo pair.
All i need to do now is to 'clean up' this set up so i can only see these single stereo aux's in my & track mixer (& arrange page if possible?) so there aren't 3 x tracks showing as playing per instrument? - I feel like i'm nearly there, anyone able to help with this last chapter in the saga????

  • Massive problems with Logic/Network -can anyone advise?

Is anyone out there using Logic on a network together with other composers, with shared samples and audio on an external RAID system via File Server? If you are, can you please offer some advice on what does work, because at the moment our system does not!
We are a studio with 3 workspaces & 3 G5 Macs, making music for TV and media. Our samples and our music archive are on 2 separate RAID 5 configurations of about 2TB each. The samples are on one of the RAIDS, most of the music Archive on the other RAID. A G4 Dual operates as file server. Our RAID system hardware is custom, not Apple's X-serve.
This system served us well for a year or two, but now we are having extreme difficulties for the second time in several months. The system has actually had a heavier load because in the last few months we went from 2 Workspaces to 3, but it's hard to make a direct correlation between this and the current problems.
What's happening is that repeatedly the data on the RAID system becomes unavailable -samples get cut off, and in exs24 you can see the "couldn't get samples in time" error. The problem is probably more serious than just a bottleneck of data because when it occurs, files also become inaccessible via the Finder: in other words, we can navigate through the folder structure within the Finder, but the individual files themselves can't be previewed as is usually possible from the Finder; when you click on the Preview triangle (for an Audio file let's say) there is the message "fetching", and you wait....and wait. Generally a Restart of Logic, or a Fileserver Restart cures the problem but only for a very short time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) before it crops up again. Basically, communication between the Workspaces and the RAID system at file level is hung up or lost completely.
This problem caused our File Server computer to have Kernel Panics (last Autumn) and we thought there was a Data Registry problem on one of the RAID systems, so we re-initialized the RAID hoping that would cure it. Things went fine for a few months, but last week the File Server had a KP again and according to my computer Tech the problem is similar to the one we had before.
We have multiple deadlines every week, and I originally chose this system for its capacity and reliability as our organization has expanded. At the weekend we will try out a different File Server configuration - a G5 and a more powerful Switcher. What I don't know is whether the problems are hardware-based or actually a result of using Logic on a Network, which perhaps it was never intended for.
Any feedback/advice/suggestions would be much appreciated. We're all on Logic 7.2.3 under OS 10.4.7.
    Thanks very much

If I was you, I'd recommend buying a cheap PC
dedicated to Gigasampler for each of your 3 rooms,
and duplicate the sample library on each of their
drives. Guaranteed to work, though again it may
violate the sample library license agreement. Check
with your lawyer and your conscience.
    Good luck.
you could do this. but even just buying a dedicated hard drive for each of the 3 stations, and installing the EXS library locally would work too, and wouldn't require as much of a change to workflow as setting up external gigasamplers would. you'd of course get higher performance with the gigasamplers being that they're in entirely dedicated machines, but the tradeoff is not having everything within a single logic session anymore, which may or may not be worth it.
as for the sample library license agreement thing. indeed.. you'd want to look into that, if not just for the possibility of getting into trouble, but at least for the moral issues of the matter. a working studio with plenty of projects going out the door should have no trouble paying for the correct legal use of the gear and intellectual property they use.

  • Crossfades do not Work in Logic 9 (upgraded) - Anyone else having this prob

This started occurring after upgrading to Logic 9 (from 8) and before I put in Snow Leopard. If I copy a region to another place and then try to create a crossfade - first the region boundaries of the pasted-in region disappear (so I have to put the playhead where the front boundary should be so I know where to put the crossfade) -- I can put a crossfade there that way, but then the region which follows won't play (is muted, though no mute function appears). Also, I cannot create a crossfade on the right edge of the pasted-in region. This for sure happens if I use Command C/V to copy and paste int he g=region. Occasionally it works correctly if I option click drag (but even then it doesn't work all the time). I think this is a Logic 9 only problem. Anyone else encounter this??

MS3 is compatible with Logic Pro X's plugins and presets as per it's description....
MainStage 3 lets you take your Mac to the stage with a full-screen interface optimized for live performance, flexible hardware control, and a massive collection of plug-ins and sounds that are fully compatible with Logic Pro X.
MS3 also only uses 64bit versions of AU Pluginsas per its minimum specs..  just as LPX does.... whereas LP9 and MS2 could use 32 and 64bit versions...
    Minimum System Requirements
    4GB of RAM
Display with 1280-by-768 resolution or higher
    OS X v10.8.4 or later
    Requires 64-bit Audio Units plug-ins
Minimum 5GB of disk space (35GB of optional content available via in-app download)
It's kind of like why you can convert projects from LP9 to LPX but not from LPX to LP9.....
MS3 is desgined to work with and utilize LPX's sounds/instruments/patches etc.. and not LP9s.....
Finally, as an aside.. please note, this forum is not how you contact Apple...

  • Yamaha Motif XS8 -  USB Midi to Logic 8 Express, anyone??

    Hi Everybody!
I have just purchased a Yamaha Motif XS8 to run with my Logic 8 Express.
The people at the store told me that I could set it up just like I had done with my midi controller through a USB straight into the Mac. But there is abso no sound, signal coming from the Motif.
How do I get the Motif to talk to the Mac via USB Midi?
The driver for the Motif is installed, and the mac can find it on the Mac's integrated Midi-setup. Cool. Fine.
    BUT...
Am I doing something wrong? Cause I can't get no signal from the Motif in Logic??
Can someone please explain how to set up a right set-up when you have a :
    Motif XS8 ->USB -> MacBook Pro/ With Logic 8-> USB- M-Audio Firewire 410 Interface?
I want to get to know the Motif with time and really "walk the walk" and learn as I go, but,
    some sound would be nice......
    Anyone??
Thanks in advance, anyone who can help......
    Best,
    Applecake

You are making 2 kinds of errors:
    1. you are recording in MIDI tracks whose task is to transmit all the data to external synths (just the way it's happening to you).
You have to use Intruments tracks and assign a Logic (or AU) instrument to each of them.
In this case the MIDI data will be forwarded to those and not to your Motif.
    2. the Motif USB interface is a MIDI interface; if you want to record the XS audio into Logic you will have to link the Firewire interface (that should be installed by default into the XS8) and install the right drivers (if nedeed).
Another way is to send the Motif audio into Mac using the audio outs via an audio interface.
BTW refer to the Motif manual to know more.
    cheers

  • A few questions before I buy Logic Pro (also anyone use M-Audio Ozone w/it?

Hello. I just bought a mac (my first one). I plan on getting Logic Pro, but have a few questions.
-Do I need an audio interface to use the program?
-Does anyone use the M-Audio Ozone with Logic? If so, do you recommend it? I know USB isn't as fast as Firewire
-If the Ozone isn't a good audio interface, which M-Audio interface do you recommend? (i might be using Protools M-Powered as well so that's why I want M-Audio)
-Is there a plugin similar to McDSP Filterbank for Logic?
I won't have too much hardware so I don't need too many ins/outs.
    Thanks

Ok well do you have a piano? If you take courses you probably need a full piano unless you only want to do synths and pop music, the Ozone will not do. Do take this into consideration, 25 keys is very very small. The cheapest best piano IMHO is the Yamaha P60; piano playing needs weighted keys.
The audio interface converts analog sound to digital and transfers it to the computer. The latency comes from the transport (firewire, usb, IDE), from the computer (software, operating system and drivers) and from the analog/digital conversion. The audio interface also does the reverse, it provides many outputs for speakers and headphones. It can also optionaly provide MIDI I/O.
There are MIDI only input/outputs too, which allow you to plug in any MIDI device, such as a Yamaha P60 piano for instance.
The controller is usually a piano like device (some aren't, they provide only buttons) that sends MIDI information to other MIDI devices (like Logic, via the computer's MIDI I/O). Synths can act as MIDI controllers but provide much more (such as the ability to generate sound).
The Ozone is both, it displays itself as a MIDI controller through it's keyboard and 8 control knobs, as well as an audio interface with 2 inputs and 1 output. That's why it's good at what it does, it's cheap and compact and does all basic IO. But if you won't record anything, a normal MIDI controller is enough. But if you have monitors, maybe the output from the Mac isn't good enough. In terms of sonic quality the Ozone is okay.

  • Learning Logic Pro 9 - Anyone Read this Book?

    Hey everyone:
Wanting to get into learning Logic Pro 9.  I've been looking at this book: Logic Pro 9 by Mark Cousins and Russ Hepworth.
Anyone read it or use it?  I've looked through it and read some of it from the preview on Amazon.  It looks good and everthing, but I'm curious about how much the packages differ between Logic Studio and Logic Express.  I just bought Logic Pro from the App Store.
I know that there are a million YouTube videos and stuff out there, but I kinda like having a structured flow to work through.  If I just try to pick up bits and pieces here and there, I'll probably never really get where I need to be.
I have a small blues/rock band and do some live recording and some basement recording.  Not a lot of MIDI and stuff initially, but I may want to program some drums and stuff, maybe add some keyboard loops.
Think this would be a good fit?  Other good spots to learn from?
    Thanks!

+1 on KCstudio's suggestion along with the 'first' book in the series...
Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express
    by David Nahami
Which is, in my opinion, the best book for learning the basics (and more) of Logic Pro....
Both Books can be found on Amazon at good prices these days....

  • No Sound from Logic 8- can anyone help with this issue?...

    Hi,
I am relatively new to Logic and have an issue as I work my way through the getting started book.
I have no sound when I play any type of track...
I have gone through the Apple website's Logic common issues page and have no issues with laptop and program compatibility and I have correctly installed my audio interface which is also fully compatible with the laptop I have.
    The setup I have is:
    - Macbook Pro 1, 2 with Mac OS X version 10. 6. 7 running Logic 8.
    - a Focusrite Saffire audio interface.
Can anyone help shed any light onto this why I have no sound returning at me when I click pay track?
Thanks for the thoughts you share!

    Somewhere in the Everything wrote:
This has solved the issue and helped my understanding of the program. I didn't realise selecting core audio interface was responsible for output audio also. Though it seems obvious now, I think I overlooked this on that point of the journey I was on... thank you Pancenter
    You're welcome.
I don't know your setup and this may not work for you, see what you think.
I tend to keep the internal built-in audio as the core audio device for all of the Mac sounds including DVD playback... iTunes....etc.
I reserve the pro/semi-pro audio interface for use only with the professional audio application. There's a couple of reasons for this... the Mac built-in audio actually works better for some things like DVD playback, also.. core audio volume will now affect the Focusrite's volume.. I'd rather not have the volume of the pro interface or the sample rate messed with. I need to load my projects and have them play exactly as I saved them.
Also, keep reading the manuals... there's much to learn there. The manuals will help train your mind for further understanding as you progress.
Any type of knowledge a person gains by working things out on their own (as you did)  will stick with you. Even though you didn't find the solution you put in effort.
The answers are never the important part of learning, the work put in is the actual answer.
When I teach audio related classes.... for example, learning how a compressor works. I have a student pick one compressor and learn it inside and out. Use it for voice, guitar, drums, bass, synths. Using one plug-in, in depth gives one perspective and the basic knowledge of how to use other compressors one will need in the future.

  • Advice for faulty logic board (early 2010 MBP)

So my logic board needs replaced.
I went to the Apple store and they told me as it is under warranty that they will replace it for free. Im not sure how its under warranty as its over 4 years old? Although I have heard that this issue is common and Apple are at fault for the logic board issue?
Anyway I get a call a couple of days later to say that as I swapped out my optical drive for an HDD that it has voided my warranty. They now say it is going to cost £416 to fix!
I just want some advice as to what people think I should do really. The laptop cost around £1800 when new but is probably not worth half of that now if it was in working order. Should I suck it up and pay the price? Should I sell the laptop for parts and buy a new model? Should I try another Apple store?
I was also considering swapping the optical drive back in and bringing it to another Apple store but are there records kept of my serial number etc. where they could still tell?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Buy a new computer or fix yours. Apple will provide no support for it since you voided the warranty.

  • Anyone using Guitar Rig 2 in Logic?

I'm having trouble getting GR 2 to work in logic. It works fine as a stand alone but does not work in logic! If anyone can advise me on what I might do to rectify this problem I could sure use it. It's holding up a studio project and I'm not getting much help from Native Instruments support.

Hmmm, I dunno-the concensus in the NI GR forum is the
same? Is it just the driver that's bad or did the
    patch fix it?
    Hi Justin,
May be you could give me a blow by blow discription of how to make this piece of S**t work. I am still getting no input into logic, I can hear the metronome but no imput from the strat at all.
    Here's what I'm using:
    G5 duel 2 gig processor
    Dididesign 192 digital interface
    Mackie digital console DXB 200
the AU version of guitar rig 2 loaded
    logic version 7.1.1
OPEN AUDIO CHANNEL - load plug-in guitar rig
I have tried..... out of the guitar into pedal board, then out of the pedal board into the Console - NOTHING
Out of the guitar straight into the console - NOTHING
It does work as a stand alone through the console but so does everything else except guitar rig, but not in Logic!
Here's the really wierd part you can hear the metronome when the audio channel is armed and record is going - Still no guitar input at all.
Am I just doing something stupid? is the AU version not working? Do I need to load the VST? and help from you is always Greatly Appreciated, this is killing me time wise.
    Thanks again guys,

  • Logic XS key stolen - upgrade to 9 without it?

    Hi
I can't find any info about whether I'd need an XS key to upgrade from 6 ("Big Box") to LE9. Mine was stolen after a break in, so still have all the disks, but not the vital XS key.
Does anyone know whether I need the XS key - ie plead with Apple to replace it, or if I have to shell out for the full version rather than upgrade?
I have the serial numbers, just not the XS key. Any help would be great.
    Cheers

    Call Apple.
I don't have a definitive answer for you, but I don't think that Apple supports Logic versions earlier than 7. I also believe you would need an XSKey for the upgrade - but as LE has never needed an XSKey, I may be wrong, but then I doubt if old serial numbers from pre-7 versions are even recognized.
Really, the difference in price between the upgrade and the full version is only a $100 - you might be better off just paying for the full version.

  • How do I make sure my Logic Studio is legally registered to me?

My partner and I are professional Musicians and I purchased my Logic Studio from a legit store online and have registered ity accordingly with Apple over the phone, so that I know its registered to me. My partner purchased his Logic Studio from someone on Craigslist, and I told him how important it is that he make sure to register his Logic in his name with the proper support at Apple. But when he called them to register it, they told hime he needed to register it online or pay for customer service in order to register it with them. Firstly, does that sound right? Why wouldn't Apple just register it to him while they had him on the phone, wanting to do that? I don't really see how registering a product to your name is the same as paying for technical support...? Secondly, we can't find anywhere online to register it? Where on earth do you go to register logic online?
Anyone with some answers that could help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. I just want to be sure our butts are covered when we put stuff out in public domain, that its all made on software that is legally licensed to us. There were some horror stories in Music Business class in college, and neither of us want to be "THAT GUY", if you know what I mean...?
Anyway, can anyone help shed some light on these issues for me please?
    Thank you
    Sublimaze69

Apple does not require registration of software online. It's sufficient to enter the serial number at first run. This assumes the seller provided the original purchase information including the box with the serial number.

  • Logic Pro unexpectedly quit and now won't open at all please help!!

    Hi all,
I have a Macbook Pro, 10.7.5 - just the standard one. I use Logic Studio (Logic Pro 9) and normally it works fine but the other day I tried to bounce a track and I got the beachball of death and the message 'Logic Pro has quit unexpectedly, a version has been saved xxxxx (crashed) etc'. This happened everytime I tried to save or bounce or import, in any session - a blank one, or an old one.
So I did some research and on an apple support page ended up deleting the 'Prokit' thing from my library, and downloading the new one (Prokit update 7 I think). I tried opening Logic again and got this message:
'Logic Pro cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Logic Pro works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.'
I gave up a bit at this point, and thought I'd uninstall/delete every trace of Logic from my laptop, including the items in preferences (this was recommended online somewhere). I went through the (lenghty!!) process of reinstalling Logic and all the audio content and extra CDs, and the problem is still exactly the same and I can't open Logic.
Can anyone please help? I'm lost without being able to use Logic every day, any advise would be great!!
And I've also just updated Logic and still no luck.
    Thanks,
    David

  • In eText template, how to put multiple transaction in one logic record

Canada Bank often use CPA Standard 005, a.k.a. CPA 1464 specification. it comes with a Header and a Trailer record, but the detail record main contains upto 6 transactions in one logic record, that is, it has 7 segments,
segments 0 contains 3 common fields followed by segment 1~6, each contains one payament.
The total records lenght is 1464. Question is how to create a custom level to have 6 transactions in one logic record.
Anyone has done so, please give me some tips. If you have a sample template available, please forward me a copy, it is for supplier payment...
    Thank you in advance,
