Logic 7.1.1-OSX 10.4.3 freeze on launch

I've just updated my OS and Logic and now can't get Logic to open. It freezes at setting up memory buffers. I've repaired permissions, updated to Pro Apps 3.1, and ran Tech Tool to no avail. I unplugged the XSkey when launching and it loaded all the way to Apple loops, then crashed. Thinking it may have been a corrupt loop I reinstalled Logic, but it still happens. Can anyone please help? I've got projects that need to be finished!

I have exactly the same problem . .It freezes at setting up memory buffers . .
it's been driving me loopy for the last 2 days!
I have tried everything i can think of:
updated xskey firmware (no problem)
trashed prefs
reinstalled logic / waveburner (twice!)
zapped pram
loaded new motu firewire drivers
(i have an 828 mk1)
I would be very grateful it if someone could offer any more help on this.
I did read in another post that it could mess stuff up if you run low on hard drive space - something i have encountered in the last week but have now rectified. . .
would the logic crash report be any use?
thanks

Logic Pro X with OSX 10.9.2 Audio output cuts out 3-5 minutes into running software how can I fix this?

    Well, first....
Are you using any 3rd party plugins in your project?
If not then my suggestion wont be the cause......
To see which plugins you have installed (Though it's only if they are being actually used in the project that would cause your issue..) you can see them via the Audio Unit Manager found under the Logic Pro X menu bar..... Logic Pro X..... Audio Unit Manager
Also, any reason you are still using 10.9.2 instead of updating to 10.9.5?
Do you get any message when the audio cuts out?
Are you only using internal audio hardware or are you using an external Audio Interface? if so, which one?

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Not able to install Logic on mac with OSX.  10.8.2. Error message: Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported. I have logic studio 8 software purchased in 2007 and upgraded with logic studio 9 (purchased in 2009)

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
    Help!

    Mark,
    Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer)  but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
    Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

  • Logic 7.1 and OSX 10.6.6

    Hi all,
I've been running L7.1 on my old G5 for about 5 years now, I've never before upgraded (should have I know).
I've now also got a mbpro running OSX 10.6.6, I've installed 7.1 on my new mb without even thinking about the difference in chipsets, 7.1 has installed ok but I no longer can see any of the logic plug ins, sculpture esx24 etc...
Looking on here it seems that installing 7.1 on osx 10.6.6 may not have been the best idea... my question is this...
If if upgraded to latest L9 by choosing upgrade in the apple store (cheapest method) would the upgrade work fine seeing as I'm upgrading from 7.1???
    Cheers for the help

You MUST have at least Logic 7.2 to work on the Intel Mac.
That was a paid update, idiotically.
Upgrading to L9 would work fine, but not on the PowerMac.

  • Logic X hangs after OSX 10.9.5 update

    Hi,
After I upgraded to OSX 10.9.5 it have left my logic X completely useless I'm afraid. I can't even open a clean new project with only one software instrument in it without it crashing. I do this and choose close for example and the software hangs and I have to force quit it.
Have a mac mini with fusion drive and 16 gb ram with a motu ultralite mkIII box.
I have tried rebuilding the preferences, I have tried moving all third party au plugins etc. but nothing have helped leaving Logic X pretty much useless at the moment.

Also, when you deleted preferences, did you delete the Control Surface pref file as well.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. (be sure and use the complete path with ~ included)  ~/Library/Preferences
    Press the Go button.
Remove the  com.apple.logic10.plist  file from the Preferences folder.
Then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the same Preferences folder.
Delete both! The files will be rebuilt next time Logic is run.

  • Logic 9.5.1 OSX 10.6.8 Midi time out?

After having used Logic and it's predecessors for over 20 years now I today got this strange warning message for the first time ever:
Midi time out, please restart your computer - hitting OK didn't make the warning go away, it kept on popping up.
I then forced quit Logic and rebooted it and everything was fine again. But has anyone ever encountered this message? Midi time out, do I have to insert 2 Euro coins somewhere maybe to get more Midi time??
I only updated to Logic 9.1.5 and OSX 10.6.8 (from 10.6.7 before) on my studio machine yesterday so maybe that's the culprit?
    Thank's
    Simon

I had the same issue with Logic Pro 9 when I updated to Lion. Also, GarageBand would not "Initialize."
This was my fault of course:
When I finished the (Lion) installation I ignored the "Incompatible Software" warning folder, and went ahead and continued editing my Pro Tools LE 8.04 sessions as well as Logic Pro 9 sessions. I was pleased that the apparent "Incompatible version" of Pro Tools continued to work. That is, until the next day, when I tried to open a logic session it froze on the "searching for Midi drivers" screen. Eventually it would open, but, it would not run.
After searching for a practical solution. I gave up and stuck my Pro Tools LE 8 disc in and did a "FULL CLEAN UNINSTALL." As a precaution I also deleted "Melodnye stand alone". Although I believe the true melodyne incompatibility came from the Pro Tools disc. Which included a "ReWire" version. I rebooted, and, everything worked fine.
The moral of the (MY) story is:
-Upon updating your OS, Take Apple's precautions seriously. They know what they're doing and I'm thankful that they are wise enough to quarantine software that will screw up drivers.
-Also. I had heard that Pro Tools was compatible with Lion, yet, I failed to further investigate that PRO TOOLS LE 8 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LION! Only versions 9 and up. I believe that means M powered 9 is compatible too (but don't quote me on that). I'm ok with that, as i've grown to like Logic more. Although, I hate to see money go down the drain.

  • Running Logic Pro 9 on OSX 10.8.5?

After upgrading my macbook and retrieving most of my backed up files, I was having trouble with Logic Pro 9.  After uninstalling as best I could, I reinstalled using the original discs.  I got a "successful installation" message at the end.  Now, when I try to open it, it says that Logic Pro 9 cannot run on my operating system (OSX 10.8.5).  Is there any way around this?

You must update Logic Pro 9 to the latest version first... before it will run under 10.8.5 as the installed DVD version (9.0.0) will not until it is updated.
Use Software Updates to achieve this....

  • Can Logic 4 run on OSX?

I have an old 'black box' USB dongle and the original disks for Logic Gold c. version 4
A friend of mine's son wants to use it on their family iMac - is it a waste of time me trying to install it for them?

I wouldn't even try. L4 knows nothing of CoreAudio, not to mention that pre-OSX audio apps were not supported. As well, if the iMac is an Intel unit, then Classic is probably not even an option (Mac OS9 was written off long before the Intel units).

  • Logic Express 8 and OSX 10.6.5 Problems...

    Hi,
I just did a fresh install of all of my software on my iMac.
Previously had it running 10.6.4 and everything an fine.
Now that I've reinstalled and upgraded to 10.6.5 Logic Express won't work.
Anyone else having this problem? Am I just ging to have to upgrade to 9?
I don't really want to as I mainly use Pro Tools and just use logic for drum machines and synths...
    Anyway! Any help is appreciated!

I'm running 10.6.5 and LE 8 and it works for me. Of course I have a new imac that came installed with 10.6.5 and I installed LE on it. Maybe you can re-install LE. But hopefully there is another solution. I too don't really want to upgrade to LE 9 if I don't have to.

  • Logic 8.2 and OSX 10.5.6 And Amplitube 2 Clicks And Pops??

I have what I think is a pretty fast comp...I never had issues really running Amplitube until it seems I upgraded from earlier Leopard to 10.5.4...Thats the only plug in that causes clicks and pops...Ive got latest update for Amplitube and Logic..but they havent released update in a while for Amplitube...Any ideas?? Has anyone heard of this issue yet..Is there something Im missing or is this a typical situation of upgrading my system to far? Thanks,

    Oh... oh! comp = computer!
Sorry, I re-read this post several times and I couldn't figure out why having a fast compressor would cause clicks and pops... I thought maybe the attack was set so fast that it was causing artifacts. I must be working too hard...
FWIW, I don't have any issues with Amplitube 2 on 10.5.6 with Logic 8.0.2. Buffer size, perhaps?

  • Logic 9.1.7 OSX 10.8.2 exs24 crashing logic

I'm using Logic 9.1.7 on Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I'm trying to open a session that has a exs24 instrument that is missing an audio file. The session crashes once it tries to load the exs24 channel. The reason I know that the missing file in the exs24 instrument is causing the crash is because I had another session with the same issue. However, I was able to find out what audio file was missing because the exs24 instrument was made from an battery instrument. So when loaded into battery the same audio file was missing. I just copied another audio file, named it the same name as the missing one and the Logic session opened up fine. Had no problems in 9.1.6 so I know this is a new bug. In 9.1.6 a pop up asking to search for the file came up and you could choose to manually find it or skip. Has anyone else had this issue and found a work around besides downgrading?

Good you found a work-around, the other method would be to start logic without core audio running... dbl click on the Logic icon in the applications folder and immediately hold down the Control key. Answer No to "Launch the Core Audio Driver?"
Have to say though.. Logic is becoming more and more fragile, it should not crash simply because the EXS can't find a file.

  • I/O Error result code -36: Logic bug, or Mac OSX bug?

    Hello-
I encountered a problem in Logic Pro 8 today that severely damaged one of my audio files in my session. I was working in the sample editor, and I went to copy and paste an audio fragment. When I tried to paste the audio, this error came up:
    "I/O Error, result code = -36"
After that, the cursor turned into a black and white spinner, and the audio file that I was working with suddenly was altered in a way that somehow erased a portion of it in the song. I had to ability to undo, view the changes in the audio file, etc, etc. It was damaged irreversibly, and I had to end up re-recording that segment. Does anyone know why this happens, and is it a bug in Logic?
BTW, I have over 500 gigs free on the external drive that I am recording to, and nothing has changed, hardware-wise on my system in over 6 months... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like one of two things that I have seen with this error :
1.- your external hard drives' connection to the computer is not 100% stable (loose cable...dusty environment...)
2.- Your audio device, is ti FireWire too? Is it daisy chained to this external hard drive? Maybe the order of the daisy chaining needs to be looked at.
    Cheers

  • Drop off issue with Logic 9.1.3 (OSX 10.6.7) and TouchOSC 1.6.4

I've reinstalled fresh 10.6.7 on a new drive, with latest LogicPro 9.1.3. Then I've configured it with TouchOSC 1.6.4, and noticed a very strange behavior.
Basically, when the Logic starts, it initializes OSC service, and thus I can connect to it with TouchOSC on my iPad. But, if I switch the focus from Logic to other application, say, Preview, Logic drops its OSC service off, and there is no way to revive it unless to restart Logic.
Just verified on my Mac Mini - similar setup works just fine. The only difference, I believe, is in OS version (10.6.6).
Is this due to recent update of OS? How can I tell Logic to keep OSC service up and running even if in background?

I'm responding to my own question - it might be interesting for someone. The reason of such disconnect was in default value of "Bypass All while in background" set at Preferences/Control Surfaces/General tab.
