Logic 7.1 compatability with Pro Tools Mix?

Hi,
Can I import audio or open a file from a Pro Tools Mix session, and if so, how? I'm sort of confused as I thought that Logic could open and save as SDII. Am I wrong here?
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks for the quick response; however I think I may not have been specific enough. What I'm trying to do is to open some songs that my band recorded in a local studio. They are on an external hard drive, and when I go to open or import them, the 'open' button on the bottom of the Open File Dialog is unavailable. I can see the song names, track names, fade files, etc. What I can't seem to do is to actually access the audio itself.
I've spent a good deal of time with the Reference Manual, as well as the Apple Pro Training Series by Martin Sitter; obviously there's some basic step I'm missing.
Sorry to not have better explained it the first time, but I was starting to think that I was just trying to accomplish the impossible.
thanks again,
Jim

If it's new and in warranty then Apple will fix the problem.  If you are within 14 days of purchase you can return it for a replacement, no questions asked, or have your money refunded.  Once past the 14 days Apple will repair or replace it at their option.

  • What logic boards are compatable with macbook pro mid 2010

i'm just curious about what logic boards are compatable with my macbook pro mid 2010?  didn't know if i needed to stay within the same year or if there are others that would work with mid 2010 layout inside the casing.  right now i have 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB and really looking to upgrade this if i can find one online from a mac with a broken screen or some defect with the logic board intact.

Rather than the Samsung EVO, I would get a Crucial M500 series - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-960GB-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B00BQ8RGL6/ref=pd_sim _computers_5 - they just seem to 'play well' with Macs where some people have reported problems with Macs and the EVO series.

  • DOES MAC OSX 10.6.8 WORK WITH PRO TOOLS 9HD?

I'VE UPGRADED MY OPERATING SYSTEM TO OS X 10.6.8 AND HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH PRO TOOLS 9HD EVER SINCE. IS ANYONE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE AND ARE THERE ANY SUGGESTIONS? IF I NEED TO GO BACK DOWN TO OS X 10.6.7 TO RUN PRO TOOLS, HOW WOULD I DO THAT. BUT MY MAIN CONCERN IS, IS THERE ACTUALLY A COMPATIBILITY ISSUE WITH OS X 10.6.8 & PRO TOOLS?  AND INFORMATION OR KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT MATTER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

  • Problems with Pro Tools 8, is it the software?

Hello, I know this is "Apple Discussions", but since I'm using Pro tools 8 with the new macbook pro, I might get some answers here. I recently bought pro tools 8, I already have logic though, but wanted to be in the pro tools world too so, the thing is that every time I use Pro Tools 8 with the digi 003, the session Im working on will stop with just a few plugins, and man this happens a lot, on the other hand is that nothing happens when I use the digi 003 with Logic 8, I mean, I could have like 20 plugins and It would not stop at all. Can anyone identify with this problem with pro tools 8, Because people tell me that on pro tools 7.4 that doesnt happen at all.
    Thank you...

PT8 is much better with plug ins than PT7x, but is not in the league of Logic. I am a huge PT fan and use both Logic and PT8, and as much as I love the look and superior interface of PT8, Logic is like an ugly old car that goes 200 MPH. It's a performance beast. I've had ridiculous amounts of plug ins in Logic with not a whimper from the program.
PT8 is much more sensitive to things like whether you are using Firewire drives to record to (as opposed to internal SATAs on a Mac Pro), and many 3rd party plugs cause PT much grief. For high track counts and lots of plug ins, Logic is still King Kong.

  • Is mac voice over compatilbe with pro tools 10?

I have a new 17inch macbook pro with Liion, and I just purchased adn installed Avid Pro Tools 10.  I'm wondering if Voice Over is compatible with Pro Tools 10.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your Mac shipped with 10.5.2, no.
If your Mac shipped with an older operating system, it depends.
According to http://www.digidesign.com/ you need a Mac with Tiger to run Protools LE. Check with them which version of Tiger it will work with.
Then check this article to see if your Mac can run that version of Tiger:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303315
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
If it can't, sell your Mac, and get a used or refurbished one which can.
Once you know your Mac can run that version of Tiger, if it is an Intel Mac, make sure you have the original Tiger installer which shipped with the Mac, as the retail Tiger installer will not work on the Intel Macs. Once you have discovered which version of Tiger works, backup your data at least twice*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
and Erase and Install Tiger on your Mac. Archive and Installing Tiger over Leopard does not work. Your other option is to get a Firewire external hard drive and install Tiger on that. http://www.macsales.com/ sells such hard drives. You can also partition your existing hard drive to have both Tiger and Leopard on it by erasing it with your Leopard Disk Utility and using its Partition function when booted off the Leopard installer, and selecting Disk Utility from the Utilities menu of the Leopard installer. Restore your documents to your hard drive from the backup when done. Applications may need to be reinstalled after an erase and install using the registration codes of the said applications.
See my FAQ* here on how to buy used and refurbished Macs:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
And in the future always check the compatibility of the software you need before upgrading your operating system.

  • Can I use a mac pro early 2008 w/10.6 with pro tools 9 Native,

thinking of ditching pc for a mac but all my research is telling me, rather than a late model mac pro upgradeable to mavericks (not tested for pro tools), my ideal setup would be an early 2008, mac pro with 10.6. currently using a lenovo desktop with 3 motu 2408 and the 424 pcie card with pro tools 9 native and reaper 4.57. works for me but since tasting mac I would like to explore the possibilties further. i had the opportunity to set up a system for a friend who purchased an imac 21" a presonus 24.4.2, and pro tools 10 he's using half the ram I have, but his system works like a beast! I;m not the imac type so, I feel a mac pro will help me expand my power base greatly and advice on mac pro options is appreceiated....

As you know, there is no 10.6.8 disk, but one can clone 10.6.8 into a late 2011 MBP (from an external HDD).  Niel mentions a 2012 model, you are the one who speaks of 2011 MBPs.  That is why I directed the comment to you.

  • External Hard Drive & Problems With Pro Tools LE

Alright... my friend has the same computer as me, Powerbook G4, with the same specs and everything (OSX 10.3.9), and has a Digi 002 Rack with Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 He can record and playback everything perfectly through his Lacie 150 GB external HD. However, when i installed the software on my laptop and tried to load the same files he was working on, i get an error message that tells me that the audio files are "unsuitable for playback" and that the Lacie HD is "not an audio playback volume", which it really is!! The only way to get the songs to play, is to copy all the files onto my internal HD... then it all works fine. (besides the fact that is uses up all my memory!!!) Is there any way to fix this problem?? Some update or driver that i'm missing?? I'm assuming it has something to do with my laptop software/hardware??? ALSO, i run Final Cut Pro, and it won't let me set my external HD as the target disk, because it is, again, unsuitable for playback!!! I have to import tapes to the internal, then send them to the external after the fact! really annoying....
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

How big is the drive?  It's possible that Spotlight indexing is running and slowing things down.  If you are unplugging the drive when you run into problems, the indexing will never complete and will start again the next time you plug in the drive.  You can exclude the external drive from being indexed in the Spotlight system preferences:
You might also want to use Disk Utility to check the disk for errors, especially if you've been unplugging it while activity has been going on.

  • Various crash with Pro Tools HD

Using my G5 Late 2005 with Pro Tools HD, during playback the system crash. No kernel panic. Force shut down. After forcing shut down the computer will not boot, no sound chimes at startup. After 5 minutes the computer boot up, but crash again only for trying to copy a folder to an external disk. Run hardware test, everything is ok! Running disk utility some error found. Boot the mac with the OS X dvd; repair the disc. Boot again from the hd. Run disk utility and some errors found. I think this is an HD problem. Anyone?

Backup and clone your system, and of course make sure you have another hard drive to boot from. Buy Disk Warrior to repair your drive.
Your DVD is older than the installed version so it isn't ideal.
    Old drive that needs repairs
    Backup and recovery drive
Small emergency partition with just Mac OS and Disk Warrior (20GB if fine)
New hard drive to replace the old drive - use the older drive for backups after full format.
Force shutdown = creates corrupt directory and more trouble than you had or that triggered the freeze/crash to begin with making matters worse.
Most problems are just the bits on the hard drive and not the physical drive, meaning it can be repaired, or bad sector mapped out, or reformatted, and not really a HD problem.

  • How much real world difference would there be between the 1600MHz memory of a 4,1 Mac Pro and the 800MHz memory of a 3,1 Mac Pro? My main app is multitrack audio with Pro Tools. Thanks so much.

How much real world performance difference would there be between the 1600MHz memory of a 4,1 Mac Pro and the 800MHz memory of a 3,1 Mac Pro? My main app is multitrack audio with Pro Tools. Thanks so much. The CPU speed of either one would be between 2.8GHz and 3.0GHz.

What are the differences.... firmware and build, there were tweaks to the PCIe bus itself. As a result 3rd party cards and booting is better.
Support in 5,1 firmware for more 56xx and W35/36xx processors. Also memory timing.
The 4,1 was "64-bit boot mode optional" and 5,1 was default. I don't know if there are changes but I assume so, even if it is not reflected elsewhere or in version number.
I don't know what the prices are but 2009, to buy one today, when the 2010 is $1800.
The 2008 of course was test bed for 64-bit UEFI and it sure seems even Lion and then ML are not as well engineered - outside of Linc who would be the least likely to have a problem.
I would assume 2010 has better support for 8GB and even 16GB DIMMs as well as for 1333MHz.
Nehalem family had only come out in fall 2008 and a lot of work went into making improvements well past 2009.
If you remember, there were serious heat problems with those and 10.5.7+ up thru 10.6.2 even with iTunes, audio, and hyperthreading and cores hitting and staying in 80*C range. That I assume was both poor code (sleep does not mean poke and ask constantly) as well as changes in SMC and kernel improvements, to work around. Microcode can be patched in firmware, kernel, by drivers and by code, but it is best when the chips and core elements don't need to be.
If someone is stretched, and can get 2009 for $1200 it might be a fine fit. That year offered the OEM GT120 which isn't really as nice and matched for today both OS and apps that rely on a GPU. And for odd reasons two such 120's don't work well in Lion+ but that is probably minor. Having the 5770 is just "nicer" though.
There are some articles about trouble booting with PCIe SATA/SAS/SSD and less trouble with 2010. Also support for graphic card and audio I think was one of those "minor" 5770 related support issues. But shows some small changes were made there too.
I wish someone would come out and pre-announce DDR4 + SATA3 along with PCIe 3.x (for bandwidth and more power per rail) along with say Ivy Bridge-E socket processors was going to be this summer's 3 yr anniversary and to replace the 2010 designed motherboard. But that is what is on Intel's and others drawing boards simmeringn in the pot.

  • I bought Logic Studio from a pawn shop with Pro Tools and an iLok. It didn't include the serial numbers, which I thought were on the iLok. Is their any way to us this as an upgrade from like eBay?

Can I buy a used version of Pro Tools with the serial numbers from eBay, then istall Pro Tools and Logic I bought from a pawn shop using them as an upgrade?

If it sounds fishy, it probably is. Serial numbers from eBay typically don't work, because they are stolen, reused, etc. Logic Pro has nothing to do with iLok. And Apples doesn't offer cross-grades or upgrades anymore. If you want their software you go to the Mac App Store application and buy it. That's the only way.

  • Logic Pro 9.1.3 with Pro Tools HD 8.1.1

    Hey guys,
I've been reading all day and hoping I could make this happen but I'm losing hope.
I have an Pro Tools HD 2 system with 8.1.1 and Logic Pro 9.1.3 installed on my computer.
I currently have Logic slaved to pro tools but I can only get sound to come out of the built in output of the speakers which I then record it to pro tools on seperate passes. I'm trying to get my logic instruments to go out seperate audio channels and into seperate audio tracks on Pro Tools.
For example, I want a sound from my exs sampler to be monitored through my pro tools channel 1-2 and a sound from ES1 or some synth to be monitored through channels 3-4.
It would just make things sooooo much easier if this could happen! I also have reason 5 rewired to logic which I wanted to go through logic into pro tools on seperate channels as well.
As of now, I'm using all 3 programs but I have to use just one stereo channel in pro tools to monitor both logic and reason!
Is it possible to assign logic to go out different output channels into different pro tools tracks??????
Thanks much - Oh yeah I'm also on Snow Leopard if that matters.
    Josh

Avid dropped support for Logic TDM in Pro Tools HD 8.0.3. You need Pro Tools HD 8.0.1 if you want to use Logic with TDM hardware. Pro Tools HD 8.0.1 is qualified up to OS 10.5.8. Anything else is untested.
Logic followed suit by dropping the DAE menu in version 9.1 or later (gleamed from reading these forums), but annoyingly did not mention anything in their release notes. 9.0.2 is the last official mention of TDM support.
You can always use eight channels of Avid hardware with CoreAudio. By using aggregate IO you can do what you need to with eight channels. If you want to use DAE TDM, the only guarantee is PT HD 8.0.1, Logic 9.0.2, OS 10.5.8.

  • Logic with Pro Tools HD upgrade

    Hi -
We're using Logic 7.1.1 with a Pro Tools HD system. I'm not at the system right now, but it must be Pro Tools 6.9.x because the machine is running 10.4.5.
When we load large templates with lots of TDM tracks and inputs, Logic quits without any kind of message about 1/3 of the time. The whole machine crashes about every 10th relaunch of Logic. The problem is definitely related to large TDM setups.
My question is: can I expect more stable performance if I upgrade to Logic 7.2 and Pro Tools HD 7 ?
    Thanks for any input.

oh yes, on a new Mac Pro...surely, but what are your experiences with these combination?
I´m using 48 Channels I/O with many outboard equipment on a HD 3 Pro Tools DAE ,,, Logic 7 is running and the DAE maschine is working...:))) cool what?
now we must talk about "all native" to use Pro Tools Hardware and Logic 9 because the 2 "Legends" are not able to create a stabile contact since 2004 in DAE mode...
now I`m interested what user, who worked with logic in DAE Mode ....- whats the way?
    regards
    Chris
