Logic 7.2 crossgrade & TDM (PT 7.1)

Trying to install Logic Pro 7.2 Crossgrade into a PT7.1 TDM environment (G5 Dual 2.7G/8Gig Ram).
I can get 7.2 to work with Coreaudio...and with only DAE enabled. But if I enable Direct TDM, 7.2 crashes on start-up. Removing the ESB-TDM plug from the DAE folder fixes the crash...but produces an error message stating "ESB-TDM plug-in not found." Does the ESB-TDM Plug need to be upgraded...and why wasn't that included in the crossgrade disc?
Also...does logic not recognize any of the TDM naming architecture? All of the Ins/Outs are simply labeled ins and outs. Not 192 I/O Ch.1 or even the smart names from the DAE I/O setup.
Can anyone advise on the best integration for Logic with TDM?

Once I updated to 7.1cs4 I was able to install the ESB plug in from the crossgrade CD, before that the install was greyed out. So far LP seems to be working for me with the DAE and DTDM systems enabled. I have not tried Core Audio yet.

Logic 7.2 Crossgrade not available, cannot use logic anymore =( Advice?

Well, I finally bit the bullet and sold my old G4 Dual 1.0 ghz and picked up a Mac Pro 8-Core last week. I was totally excited about getting my new machine until I realized that the Logic 7.2 Crossgrade is no longer available in Japan. I went to the Shibuya Apple store yesterday and inquired about it, however the Apple Rep there only said that it is no longer available, and that the only way that I could use Logic on my new Mac is to buy the full retail Logic 7.2 version for 100,000yen (uhh, no way)
I find this to be quite an unsettling situation to be in. Is 7.3 coming out soon, or whatever the next version of Logic is? I don't really need any new features, I just want to get my studio up and running again.
I really don't think Apple should have discontinued the 7.2 Crossgrade until they have something else to offer their current Logic 7 userbase first...
Any advice would be deeply appreciated

OK, with that out of the way, this sounds like an oversight on Apple's part, and if it happened to me, I wouldn't hesitate to make a copy of the latest 7.2.x from a friend or from something like Bit Torrent. First I'd make a bit more effort to speak to somebody at Apple about sending the latest disks - I notice the Logic Pro 7.2 Crossgrade is still listed on the US Apple Store site.
Your Logic 7 XSKey will activate any version of Logic 7 Pro, and you certainly shouldn't need to pay full price for another one.

OSX 10.3.9 and Logic 7.2 crossgrade

Hi,
Do I need to upgrade to 10.4.x in order to crossgrade to Logic 7.2? I am interesting in buying a midi controller that specifies using v7.1 (novation remote 25sl) And have bought 7.2 without realising that there may be compatiblity issues.

Good question.
You cannot download the crossgrade, it is on DVD and is shipped from the Apple Store pertaining to your country which is why there is no international shipping option from the US store.
I see your country is between Russia and Iran and has no Apple Store of its own. My only suggestion would be to email the US Apple store and hope they can sort this for you.
How/where did you get your Mac that you are running Logic on at the moment. Perhaps you could obtain the crossgrade through the same channels.

I've just purchased a macbook pro and my older version of LE runs poorly. I've figured out i need this "crossgrade" thing, but whenever i click on "learn more", it takes me to the final cut pro page..?! Where can I find the crossgrade???

everyone's entitled to their opinion, and while i don't use express i've been using pro for 4+ years and i think it's great - lots of annoying bugs still but great.
Perhaps Live will be more up your street and i hope so - have no idea what kinda music you wanna make....
as for the windows issue...there are plenty of ways to make "screensets" work for you (i think you have this option in express right?)
and getting used to the what seem to be weird things about logic can actually improve your workflow, i think.
there are just so many ways to do things you want in logic which can make it seem chaotic.
If you do stay with Logic and you haven't already done so, i'd really suggest the macprovideo series of tutorials - should help you make sense of express.
If you decide to move to Live - well i hope they are pastures greener!

or you may be able to do this yourself.

Reaktor 5 & Logic 7.2 Pro TDM

I can only get Reaktor 5 to work on 1 Instrument Channel.
Reaktor 5 will load on another Instrument channel, midi gets to Reaktor 5, but no sound comes out.
Other Native Instrument plugins work fine

For the life of me I can not figure out why in Logic 8, using a TDM Configuration, why I can only use what looks to be TDM plugz in my session?
I used to love being able to run Guitar Rig as a DAE channel in Logic...
Did Apple do away with RTAS support in Logic 8? This config worked fine using my G4 with a mix plus system in Logic 7.1.1
So now the only way I would be able to use my non-TDM plugz in a Logic 8 TDM configured session would be to use the Core Audion functionality alonside the DAE/Direct TDM functions as well? One would think this could create many problems for my lit'l MacPro to not flake-out on me having two audio configurations running at the same time.
Any input or similar issues with this matter would be greatly appreciate.

There was never "RTAS" support in Logic, you are referring to "HTDM" support way back then.
But it was Digidesign who abandoned "HTDM" support.

Thinking about GuitarRig and the needed audio input you should run CoreAudio in addition to DAE and deactivate DTDM (DirectTDM) because of missing audio inputs.
Any input or similar issues with this matter would be greatly appreciate.

Logic Pro 9 TDM Movie makes system slow

Dear all,
I'm running Logic 9.1.x TDM on a HD|3 System. When I open my standard template that I've used for several years now (which contains TDM & DTDM Audio tracks, a few empty instrument tracks, some aux/send and subgroup tracks, midi tracks, ...) and select "Open Movie" from the File menu and play back I can see the the video running smoothly.
As soon as I open Stylus RMX and maybe on other instrument and play back the arrange bar doesn't move at all for more or less 3 secs and then plays back starting from that point and everything runs smoothly. As soon as I stop even in the middle of the song and play back again the story repeats itself.
By looking at the CPU load I can see the last core being used up to the top and the other moving slightly.
I've tried to change Audio & Video settings but since I rarely had to work with video I wonder if I'm missed something.
Any help would be very much appreciated

Quick update - appears not to be a Logic problem, as the lag exists even when opening the video in QuickTime on both machines. iMac plays instantly, Mac Pro has a 3 sec lag...

Logic 8 and TDM with Expansion Chassis ???

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the new Logic will work with TDM and an expansion chassis ?? The G5 & Mac Pro machines only have 3 pci slots meaning that larger TDM systems require an expansion chassis to hold the digidesign cards. I know from painful experience that Logic 7 DOES NOT WORK with TDM when an expansion chassis is part of the system. Has apple addressed this in the new Logic release ??

yes, it works. We have a system running logic pro 8, PT 7.3.x with a magma expansion chassis fully expanded with accell cards. no problem at all. I am however, having a problem with a newer system, I will post about that on a separate post.

Yes. Very uninformative indeed. I must say, having been a Mac-freak since early '90s, Apple's support and documentation on possible and reported problems really *****. It feels like the TDM-crowd was abandoned the minute Apple bought Logic.

Logic Pro 8 & TDM Error Codes, need help!

I am using Logic Pro 8 & TDM hardware. I am getting 2 error codes, only when I try to use the Audio Suite in the Sample Editor.
"Error code -7401 was returned by the DAE driver."
"2 times TDM error -7102 while trying to disconnect TDM."
What do these mean? I tried searching the net and found nothing useful. Otherwise Logic Pro 8 and TDM has been flawless, and all my hardware works perfectly in Pro Tools HD.
I am using a 96i I/O, and 1 Accel Core card and 2 HD Accel cards (PCIe).
Also the Audio Suite doesn't seem to process the audio as intended or at all. There 2 errors show up when I try to preview the effect, no matter what Audio Suite buffer size I use.

I've been trying to get Logic to work with DAE/TDM in Leopard on a Mac Pro now for months! How did you do it?? Been searching the internet for answers ever since I started, and would highly appreciate your response.
My most obvious problems are: No audio from Aux (EXS, ESB) or instruments. The whole program is "struggling" with awful "framerates" . . just moving the pointer takes forever.
When in Core-audio everything works fine.
I have reinstalled Leopard, Pro Tools and Logic several times, with no luck.
Please tell me how you did it!

Does the Logic Pro 7.2 Crossgrade Include the Entire Logic Installer?

I've just relocated from the USA to Europe and am having my studio equipment shipped here with my G5 Dual 2.0 and all software (including Logic Pro 7.1). What was supposed to take 1 week to ship has now changed to 6 weeks (It's a long story). This means that I will be without Logic on a decent machine until the end of May!!!
I'm thinking about purchasing a new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo and the $50 Logic 7.2 Crossgrade, so that I can still work until my studio equipment arrives. I do have my Logic XS key and my i-Lok (for various 3rd party plugins) with me here in Europe. Problem is - my Logic Pro install DVDs won't be here until the end of May.
Can I do a full installation of Logic Pro with just the 7.2 Crossgrade disc(s)?
If this is not possible, can I use the Migration Assistant built into OS X to transfer Logic from my old G4/867 powerbook I have with me, then use the 7.2 crossgrade to make it useable on the new Macbook Pro that I purchase?
I'd rather do a clean install of Logic Pro from the Crossgrade disc(s) if possible, as there's a bunch of junk I don't want to transfer over from my old Powerbook to the new MBP.

O.K. I own Logic Pro 7.0.0 (academic), but never wanted to installed it until i got my MacPro, so I bought the Crossgrade. Now that i want to install it Logic is asking me for my activation code, which i don't find anywhere (I don't even remember if it came with the package).
First of all I don't even know if my crossgrade actually works with my academic Xkey (so that is why it is asking me for the activation code) or I should try to contact Apple to get a new activation code.

7.1 to 7.2 Logic and Pro Tools 7 disaster!!!

I just installed Pro Tools 7.1cs4 and worked on it last night with all of my plug-ins including NIK2, TLSpace, etc.. Today I tried running Logic 7.1 in DAE mode and crashed my computer. Now Logic crashes every time and ProTools lost all my NI instrumnents and the install of TLSpace. I know that I need 7.2 to run this properly (my copy is in the mail as we speak..) What do I have to do to get back and running? Where did my plug-ins in Pro Tools go?

AJ...I agree the see-saw act for the last two months has been more than annyoning.
The bad news is PT7.1cs4 and anything but Logic 7.2 won't play well together using CORE AUDIO (DIGI)/DAE/TDM.
The good news is that Logic 7.2 crossgrade and PT7.1cs4 do actually work] together. I know...I know $50 here...$50 there. But if you must run audio inside Logic...
Don't know about your situation...but you would be able to slave Logic 7.1 to PT7.1. This might not provide you with everything you need though. But it does work.

How to remove Logic 8

Does anyone on this forum have a list of all of the assets that need to be removed for complete uninstall of Logic 8? I have to run Pro Tools 7 and I know that Logic embeds some files that conflict with Pro Tools. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

According to an official Apple statement:
"Pro Tools version 7 contains significant changes to the Digidesign Audio Engine that make it incompatible with current versions of Logic Pro 7 using TDM. If you plan to use Logic Pro 7 with your TDM system, it is strongly recommended that you continue to use Pro Tools version 6.9.x.
To use Pro Tools 7 on the same system as Logic Pro, it would be necessary to create a separate startup partition, maintaining Pro Tools 6.9.x on one partition for use with Logic Pro, and installing Pro Tools 7 on the other.
This document will be updated as more information becomes available."
So unless there's another issue, ProTools messes up Logic, not the other way round.
