Logic 7 and the XS Key

Years ago I had purchased a Roland Studio Package Pro with Logic RPC for Windows and about a month after I got I heard that Logic was going to be discontiued on the Windows platform. I would have never bought if I knew that in advance but anyway... I remember hearing about an offer to buy the upgrade to Logic 7 for $299.00 and even though I didn't have a Mac I purchased it because at the time it was a great deal. Well about a month ago I finally got a hold of an Imac and after installling Lion and finally cracked open Logic 7 and went to install it. It went to authorize the XS Key and failed. It has never been registered. I am out $300.00+ because the XS Key can't get authorized? Also, I had picked up an NOS copy of Logic 6 and that is where I got the XS Key from. Both Keys, the one from Logic RPC and Logic 6 don't work. Is there any option other than another 200.00 investment in Logic 9 available to me?

What seems to happen with the XS Key is that after I installed Logic it asked me to enter the serial number and I did then it tries to check and validate it online with the XS Key server and fails. It comes back with a message asking to authorize manually or authorize later. If I pick later the program starts, but how many times do I get to do this before it won't let me authorize later?
I had Lion on this Imac but I added an external hard drive and installed Leopard on it and Logic 7. After updates I still have problems. A few little things and somethings like the drivers to my audio input device worked once but with clicks happening in the audio and then it froze and hasn't worked again.
What is the best way to install this version on Logic 7? Should I first get Snow Leopard and install it on an external HD and then install Logic 7 on the main Imac hard drive? ( I have an older 2009 Imac) and then update to Lion? Will Logic still run? I am new to Apple so I am still learning. I do have an Iphone and Ipad and can't live without the Ipad.
I did contact Apple and they could not find anyway to authorize the Logic 7 and couldn't offer me a discount or free upgrade to Logic 9. They were kind enough to offer me a free accessory and I needed a wireless keyboard so that is very much appreciated. The support people were very nice about the whole thing and didn't have to offer me anything but they did.

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels. Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer. I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation. I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC. I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots. Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes. Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond. In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images. After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data. (I have a screen shot to show this.) CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong. I could also send screen shots of this data.
At this point, the only way I can process my images is to work 30-40 minutes and then shut down everything, exit, and re-start LTR. This is not normal. I hope you can find the cause, and then the solution. If you would like to see my screen shots, tell me how to submit them.

Problem with RSA/AES and the wrapped Key

Hallo!
For a server-client communications, I would like to use a hybrid encryption.
For this I create an object of a serializable class that contains several properties, including the data that are to be transferred from A to B (Object, encrypted by AES), and the AES key, but wrapped by RSA (byte []).
My basic problem is, that if I send the wrapped key, I get at the destination another byte array and thus the key can not be decoded:
java.security.InvalidKeyException: Invalid AES key length: 256 bytes
When I look at the string representation of the byte array before sending and immediate after receiving, the byte arrays are diffrent. Why?

1. Don't do this. The general problem has been solved. The solution is called TLS, and Java provides a API called the JSSE for you to use.
2.If you insist on rolling your own, don't specify NoPadding. Use PKCS1Padding. If you are going to use NoPadding, then you must provide your own padding scheme, which you have not.

I have a Ipad 2 3g. someone detached the cable between the logic board and the 3G board can I convert it to a Wifi only?

The ipads that have 3g have an extra section attached to the logic board by a glued on wire. I bought this at a tag sale. Someone was apparently trying to repair their iPad and they did not know that when you removed that glued strip attaching the 3g antenna to the logic board you would never be able to re-atach it again later. So basicaly my 3g logic board is now in two pieces. the main logic board with wifi and the cdma 3g antenna. Now their is no differnce between the logic boards in either wifi only or wifi and 3g devices. I attempted to restore the device with the ios for wifi only, because there are 3 different ios versions depending on if you have wifi only wifi 3g with SIM card, or wifi 3g cdma.

Nope, I doubt it. As I said:
I disabled Aero theme, checked font scaling was 100% and rebooted Windows in between all of the steps to no avail.
I've been reading a lot around this and it seems the arrow key problem is a red herring; I think it's just some kind of terminal preferences corruption.

My "go to in point" and "go to out point" keyboard shortcuts are not working, and the default keys arnt either? any help would be amazing!

Well that still didn't make any kind of difference. I would just do without it but I've becomes really use to it with Avid for so long. I have to admit there are a lot of small moments like this that makes me miss Avid. Any other suggestions? I have checked the keyboard shortcuts a few times and maybe I'm just missing something here...

What, if anyting, does pressing the windows flag key and the "r" key do?

Last night some one with a very strong accent called, addressing me by name, saying he had been contracted to contact people and warn them of a serious problem that affecting many computers. He wanted me to press my windows flag key and the "r" key at the same time. Stupid me did, but then became suspicious and hung up on him. He never called back, and I turned my computer off. Did I give him access to something? What do I need to do?

I'm sure that was a scam call, but you hung up before they could do anything malicious to your computer. Pressing the Windows key + R just brings up the "Run" screen. It is completely harmless to bring up "Run," but if you had continued to follow all the steps this guy was about to give you, he probably would have tried to gain remote access to your computer or load a virus or some other awfulness. I'm glad you hung up on him!

If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them. Let them deal w/it. Out of warranty, your keyboard may need cleaning. Use a vacuum hose or a can of compressed air to get the dirt out from under the keys. For instructions to remove the keys if it comes to that check out the following websites:

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

When plugged into USB the Ipod gets warm.

Have to input the serial and the XS key on every start

Hi,
I installed Logic Studio today. Everything went smooth, but everytime when I start Logic 8 again it asks for my serial (Logic 8) and I have to attach the XS key. I trashed already the Logic Studio ID, but it doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Can you manually type the serial number from the XSKey into LP8? Seems like the software would see that you have an XSKey and "unlock" the install CD so you no longer need the XSKey. I would hate it if people who purchase LP8 at regular price are released from the XSKey burden, while those who buy the upgrade version have to continue to endure it. I hope there is resolution to this issue as it is my only reservation about ordering the $199 upgrade.

I had a problem with my mouse double(multiple) clicking when I didn't want it to, now pressing enter in a window like this will close the current window and open one of my Taboo sites, and the cursor keys don't work.

This happens in any text entry window, but there is no problem with Wordpad or Word or other apps, just in Firefox. It's like the keyboard mapping has gotten fouled up in Firefox, but I can't find where I might check what is going on.
