Logic 8 cpu meter

Hello,
I have a first generation MacBookPro core duo 2.8 with 2 gb ram. When playing a song within LP8, I see that bottom cpu meter going crazy up to "red" while top one remains only lower lever somewhere between 10%.
It appears that only on of the core is doing all the audio processing while the other one is taking a rest. This is causing pops and clicks.
is there a way to tweak the config so that LP8 uses both cores equally?
Thanks in advance..
M

This has been a very hot topic. If you search around you'll find tons of threads talking about the dreaded core overload message, and along with that is discussion about the issue if processor distribution.
The short answer is no, you can't do anything to spread it more evenly. Even though Logic can use multiple cores, each individual plug-in will only use one so a processor heavy plug will cause one to peak like that.
If it's not cause real issues even though it's going in the red, don't worry too much about it. It sounds like for you it's causing clicks and pops, so here are some things to try:
Make sure your Airport card is OFF
Increase the buffer.
Set the 'Process Buffer Range' to LARGE.
Try with both the I/O Safety Buffer ON and OFF. People are reporting varying different things with this setting, but for me it will KILL my performance.
Good Luck!

  • CPU meter on logic. Showing only one part.

    Hey again.
I've noticed the CPU meter shows 6 separate meters, although they all show some use, the lowermost one appears to be doing the most work, and from time to time maxes out, especially when bouncing. Could I be sacrificing performance?

Well I only have a quad core.
But it still shows 6 down the bottom. When I dc on the meter, it shows 8, two of which are inactive, 1,5&6 show activity most of the time, but when logic is playing the first 5 show almost equal activity, and 6 shows nothing.
This brings more to my attention. I assumed each bar corresponds to each core. But I have 8 bars.. And the disk I/O.
I have limited knowledge of the specifics of hardware, but normally enough to get me by... Always willing to learn tho.

  • Logic cpu meter spike while recording / monitoring?

Hey, I just checked Logic's internal CPU meter, and noticed something quite weird is happening.
I have only ever had one overload message, which I think was caused by changing a BFD2 setting, so the fact Logic believes that it's maxing out one of my cores confuses me a little more.
Anyway, in a template project (just unused audio tracks), if I click the record (or the monitor) button, my first core tops out in Logic's meter, but in the activity monitor, little changes, and sometimes even shows the load changing between cores, with Logic still insisting the overloading core is doing the work.
If I deselect the button, the core returns to no/little load. It doesn't seem to affect Logic's performance, but I'm more than curious about this.
Anyone have the same thing happen to them, or is there a reason for this?

    From another post of mine:
An observation about lopsided CPU behaviour: a reliable source(an AU and hardware developer) remarked the other day that according to his tests all stuff that is on record enabled/monitored tracks can only run in a single thread using the (small) i/o buffer on one CPU.
This 'real time' CPU can easily be overloaded, while the rest of the CPU's may be idling.
You can have loads and loads of CPU hungry stuff on tracks that are in playback mode(and that use a large buffer because logic knows what is coming) on an octocore, but for record/monitor enabled tracks the octocore is just as good as a single core/cpu machine with the same specs(CPU speed/cache/RAM speed etc.)
Haven't tested this myself yet, but is sounds plausible and it would certainly explain some of the trouble I've seen with CPU overtloads.

  • Logic CPU meter overloading

The Logic CPU meter overloads as soon as I add just one software instrument track and insert any new instrument into that track (even in new project)
It happens using Logic X or Logic 9, and Audio tracks are no problem.
Then if I open up the CPU meter properties, it appears to be just 1 of the 2 meters overloading (right hand meter)
I previously thought it might be a Mavericks problem, so went back to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 but still have the problem.
I remember reading something about the Core Audio settings so maybe it could be this ???
I even tried re-installing Logic X but no difference. Although I now have 2 versions of Logic X and Logic 9 on same Mac, so maybe thats not helping!
    many thanks in advance

I even tried re-installing Logic X but no difference. Although I now have 2 versions of Logic X and Logic 9 on same Mac, so maybe thats not helping!
No.. both LPX and LP9 can happily coexist on a single Mac without issue...
Then if I open up the CPU meter properties, it appears to be just 1 of the 2 meters overloading (right hand meter)
Make sure you quit all other apps running at the same time including background tasks...
    Other than that....
    What are your Mac's model/specs?
Have you read the support document regarding this?

  • CPU meter overload/clicks

I just got a mac pro quad and Logic 8. Spent a week learning the differences vs. L7 and G5 and building my template (multi-instruments slowed me down).
I just recorded 8 tracks wih MOTU MSI, and when I switched to a big reverb (cathedral in MSI), I got static. I opened CPU performance meter (right sie of transport bar, and the first three bars stayed down at 0, but the fourth bar was in the red. When I got rid of th reverb, the static went away, and the bar came down to 40%.
Can someone tell me how the mac pro/Logic knows to send processing tasks across all 4 processors?
My template has BFD, MSI, RMX, 16 audio tracks, multiple plug ins, channel strips, and 5 auxes for verbs and mosulation. So I'll need more than one of the 4 processors.

There is a battery indicator at the top of the screen (Settings > General > Battery Percentage 'on'). There is not a built-in 'cpu meter' - try searching for 'cpu meter' or 'system info' in the app store to see if there any apps that do what you want.

  • Cpu meter run high even when stopped

Hi im running logic 9. even when stopped the cpu meter run high, even peaking at times. I have made sure all other apps are closed while running logic. Dont know what the drain is? Please help...

Do you have a virtual instrument track selected?
Try selecting an unused audio track with no plugins and see if the useage goes down when idle.
Logic usually processes all plugins for current input on one core, which can max out your cpu.
You can also try increasing your process buffer.

  • Where's my cpu meter gone?

Well, I've obviously done something to make it disappear (I'm using Logic Pro X, by the way), but I cannot, for the life of me, find a way to get it back - anyone?

  • CPU Meter in transport only showing 2 cores

Ever since the 9.1.2 update, the CPU meter in the transport bar is only showing 2 cores (I have 8 cores). However, if I option-x to see a floating CPU and HD window, all 8 cores appear. Anyone else with this problem?

    Addenddum:
I only see 1 load-bar in the transport CPU-meter. Its amplitude is the amplitude of the heaviest used core, but there also is a thin yellow line within the one bar showing the average load over all cores (I think).

  • RE: Ideacentre K430 Power Control Switch (need the original cpu meter)

    Dear Lenovo,
I buyed this desktop, and it worked well...BUT!... ->
I reinstalled (full HDD format) the Windows 7, and deleted my backup (recovery?) partition. When i finished the installing of Windows 7, the power control switch doesn't work anymore and the CPU meter has gone. Installed all drivers, downloaded from lenovo.com but there is no software for Power Control Switch and Cpu meter.
Here is the manual, - i need this funktion. <<<<< LINK
You should upload (or make) a software for power control switch with the original CPU meter.
    You should support the users!

  • CPU Meter?

Where do you start that from a menu selection? I had to open up LE7.2 to find the key combination, but I don't see it in any of the menus for L8.

Right (control) click on the transport bar at the bottom. Select "customize transport bar" from the pop up menu and you'll find a whole host of options included the CPU meter. Hope this helps.

  • Logic Sputtering, CPU spiking horribly for no apparent reason, gives MIDI sync error even though the computer is set at the same sample rate.

It's literally making it impossible for me to produce anything, after what seems an arbitrary amount of time in Logic my audio will begin to distort and I will get errors stating that my MIDI sample rates don't match, but they DO and it will spit out some seemingly random sample rate from nowhere. My CPU usage will spike and even my cursor will jitter across the screen until it stops stuttering. The audio problem seems to only be caused by Logic but will sometimes continue to occur in other applications after Logic is closed.
How on earth do I fix this? It's making it impossible for me to work on remixes that I have to have finished soon, I have deadlines and I simply can't work in these conditions... the audio doesn't work.

That sample rate error comes up when Logic gets out of sync internally, you will sometimes also see a MIDI/Audio sync error. MIDI timing is taken from the audio driver/sample rate, it's what enables MIDI to stay in sync with audio, when the audio/MIDI engines get out of whack these are the kind of errors that pop up. (there doesn't have to be any MIDI in the song)  Can be caused by bad drivers, interference from another running program, synchronization settings, bad or incompatible plugins!

  • Logic X CPU Overload with External HD, or HD Overload with Internal HD

System is MBP Mid-2010 with 4gb. I created a 3 audio track + 1 drummer track session. If the session is on the internal drive, then upon playback, I can see in the system usage display in the transport that there is a huge burst of hard disk usage close to 100% which then drop back to a low load within 10-20 seconds. Problem is that in some cases, it prompts the system overload error message, about 1/3 of the time.
Instead, I copied the session on an external FW800 drive (G-Technology). I no longer have any hard rive overload issues, but now it is the CPU which is almost fully utilized between 70-90%, also generating an overload error.
So I'm not really sure what to do here? What is the correct setup to have neither overload, or at least eliminate the initial HD overload?
    Help appreciated

    Try this...
    Download Etrecheck from here...
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
    Install....
Now load the project where you are seeing high CPU usage in Logic and then run Etrecheck.. posting up the full report here when it's done...
That may shed some light on the true cause of your issue... as normally FW800 connected drives are very easy on CPU usage unlike USB external drives
    Cheers..

  • Found "Digital Audio" logic board, cpu & psu inside my Quicksilver ?

Recently got a quicksilver that "appeared" different to me . . .
Upon looking inside it's is a digital audio g4 swap (verified part #'s)
Logic board, 466mhz cpu and psu inside a Quicksilver case.
Any upgrades for this? does the dual 533 work in here?
Not sure what to do with this one, was hoping it was the sawtooth with the agp without adc (for testing flashed video cards without taping pins 3 & 11) . . .anyways

If you are just a TINY bit adventurous, get a QS CPU.
All you need to do is run a 12V line for fourth screw hole on CPU daughtercard.
Have a dig at XLR8yourmac.com, details used to be there...somewhere.
I once a QS 867 CPU and moved a resistor and made it a 933Mhz. I then ran over it with a rolling chair and knock a bunch of caps off.
Soldered them back on and sent it to a friend with a DA. He slapped it in and went on to do great things with that old DA. (like write the Mac Nvidia 6200 ROM)
The later QS 133Mhz bus CPUs had more cache, something like that. I know that the 867 was MUCH faster than a 733 I tried in it once.

  • Is 64-Bit Logic more CPU hungry?

The project I'm currently working on keeps running into low memory areas. So I switched Logic into 64 bit mode and reloaded the file.
Now - no memory alerts, just giant CPU spikes and stuttering, clicks, etc. When run in 32 bit mode, this song hits around the 75% mark on only 2 of the 4 cores.
Is it normal that running in 64 bit requires more horsepower?

Is it normal that running in 64 bit requires more horsepower?
no. in general, 64 bit apps are not slower than their 32 bit counterparts. '64 bit is a little bit faster' is the average case, but it can go both ways. 64 bit requires more memory io, but 64 bit architectures typically utilize more modern capabilities of the CPU, and they have more registers at their disposal.
64 bit will consume more memory (RAM). if you don't have much free memory, then you'll miss deadlines in playback. this is one possible explanation.
if your plugs are 32 bit only (and therefore bridged to then from a 32 bit process), you will have more overhead compared to the 32 bit version because that transfer requires a bit of work.
