Logic 8 crashing when Initializing Core Audio

Does anybody have an answer for this? I am trying to launch Logic 8 on my G5 and every time it gets to initializing Core Audio it crashes unexpectedly. I tried launching it by disabling the core audio driver as the Apple site suggest and it works fine. But Apple doesn't say what to do then after that. I tried trashing the preferences (both from Logic 8 and the preferences from Logic 7 which were in the Logic folder in the Preferences folder). When I tried restarting after that it just froze when it came to initializing Core Audio. I couldn't even force quit it. It wouldn't let me. I had to manually shut down the computer by holding the power button.
Pleeease help me. I'm fairly positive I have the most updated Core Audio driver (if anybody knows what it should be when running OS X.5.4 just so I can check that would be great). Thank you in advance.

I tried all everything that you guys have recommended. I re-installed the audio driver just in case. I trashed all of the preferences, restarted a whole bunch of times and still it just keeps crashing when it gets to the Initializing Core Audio Driver stage. Should I try re-installing Logic Pro from the installer disc and then re-install all of the updates that have been released since?
This is so frustrating. I'm not sure where the "crashed thread" is in the report but would that help if anybody saw that? I'm not exactly sure what part of the report to cop. The whole thing is way too long to copy and paste in one of these posts.
Also, just to note, Mainstage opens up perfectly fine and I have no problems using it at all.

When booting up L8 it stops responding just as it says 'initializing core audio' & I have to force quit it. So I booted up L7 which was ok, then booted L8 & it came up ok.......no freezing. Today I tried to boot L8 first & the same thing happened, so I booted L7 ok & tried L8........only to be met with the freeze at 'initializing core audio' again. I forced quit it & tried again, this time it booted ok. L8 is unreliable at booting up for me, has anyone had the same problem or know how to solve it?

Have you repaired file permissions?
Try uninstalling the MOTU drivers and downloading the latest version. You will need to use the installer to uninstall the old version first.
It may not be helpful, but I had trouble launching Logic 08 occasionally, then when I upgraded to Finale 2008 it always froze at that place. The MOTU drivers were the problem in my case.

Logic pro 9 quit unexpectedly while initializing Core audio

i've installed my logic studio 9 and it does not work, it quits unexpectedly while initializing Core audio I am using mbox 2 mini but i don't like protools, i deleted it. I've installed the digidesign standalone core audio drivers 8.0.3 which is compatible with my OS, but logic pro doesnt launch, soundtrack pro works and waveburner does too, mainstage and logic pro do not. I've configurated system preferences/sounds and mbox2 mini appears right. I've configurated applications/utilities/audio midi setup and everything is correct , system preferences/ mbox2 says "connected to mbox 2 mini" so if everything is correct why it doesnt work in logic pro and with soundtrack works perfectly? OMG it drives me nuts already... i tried also run logic pro without audio interface, just with "built in" device. it didn't work too. i launched it pressing control(without launch core audio) in audio settings appears mbox2 mini but doesnt work. I did read in a forum "you should delete logic's preference file" .... didn't work too.... like i said can't deal anymore with this issue. please HELP!!

The first things to do is make some backups of what you have, just in case. Then try booting Logic without the audio drivers (or turn them off) and see if you can load the song.
Also, try deactivating your third-party plugs (a snap with AUManager, or move them temporarily out of your components folder), and seeing whether it will load then.
I would guess that the song is corrupted, so once you can get it to load, I would suggest you start copying all the necessary stuff (regions, automation, channel settings etc etc) into a new, uncorrupted song.
Also, you can try and go back through your auto-numbered backup files, assuming you have the function turned on - you might be able to open a version of the song before the corruption. And if you didn't have that autobackup feature turned on - well, I suggest you do from now on!
If you get no joy doing all that, post back and we'll go from there.

So I've been doing all my productions on a Mac G5 using Logic Express 7.1. I just bought a Mac Book Pro and updated to Logic Express 7.2.3. All the songs I did on the other Mac won't open.. Logic immediately crashes as soon as I try to launch...

LPX Long Wait Initializing Core Audio

The project appears to be loaded, but wait! There is a 10 second delay, before the 'Initializing core audio' comes up. Once that's showing then there is yet another wait for the core audio process to complete
Why does it take so long for Logic Pro X to get Core Audio ready?
This drawn out loading does not happen in any other DAW.
Kinda annoying. No?

Logic crashes when i save

i updated to tiger, cleared my harddrive, and i now use two firepods, and all of a suden when I select save song as project, logic saves the song but it crashes. anyone have any pointers?

I am having the same problem and I have installed the latest pro application update (3.1). I use Logic 7.0.1 but am waiting for the 7.2 update in the mail.
Logic crashes when I try to save a song using the "save as...", "Save as template", "Save as Project" commands.
The song does get saved properly, though.
Logic also crashes when exporting MIDI files. In that case I do loose everyhing I did since my last save.
When I use the normal "save" command Logic does not crash.
I tried deleting my autoload song and let Logic startup it's own one, but then the problem still occurs.
I read about "deleting the preferences" in an archived thread about this subject, but I don't know how to do that.
Can anybody help me with this?

Logic crashes when project loads Arturia Wurlitzer V

When loading recent project, Logic crashes when it gets to loading Arturia Wurlitzer V with error: read_size = =bytesize. Able to use Wurlitzer in new project. Is this Arturia problem or Logic problem? This started originally when I was working on the project, and it crashed.

I've got a PDF manual for the Arturia Minimoog (I told you it was late last night) and there is a Configuration page there - that could be worth having a check over for the equivalent - there's always a balance between your processor speed/RAM/communication speeds and I don't exactly know what you're trying to run that on.
The loading time for that plug-in does seem to suggest that it uses a bit more memory, but if you break me open like a stick of candy, I'm a good 80% musician in the middle, so what do I know...he he..

I have installed logic 9.1.5 from the apple site and run that, still same problem.. so i have finally managed to get my hands on the logic 9 disc.. it says on the apple site to remove logic 9 from your mac, to simply drag the logic app to trash and reinstall. i did this with 10.6.0 installed and run it and still error. I then combo updated to .4 .6 and to .7 without updating logic still error.. Then i have combo updated to 10.6.8 still error.. finally i installed the 9.1.5 update direct from the site on 10.6.8 and that hasnt worked either..
My question is, even though on the apple site it says to drop the app to the bin and reinstall, does this remove all necessary files? or do i have to do it manually and if so can someone tell me exactly what needs to go,before i try a proper reinstall.

Logic crashes when selection "Save as, Save as copy or quit

Logic crashes when I select Save as , Save as copy or if I try to quit the project . There is no selection box to that give me the option it just crashes . Logic loads excellent and it record it suppose to but again when I Name and save my project it crashes . I have reinstalled my operation several times that is not the problem. My other programs work good (Protools and Ableton). It is also affecting MainStage, Waveburner and Soundtrack Pro these programs wont save projects.

LOGIC CRASH WHEN LOOKINAG AT PREFERENCES

I have changed my audio interface. Now when I load LOGIC I get the normal message which says the old audio interface isn't available and will I use the on-board sound. After the message I go on to the Audio Preferences section to change the core audio to my new interface however it crashes every single time. I have re-installed LOGIC, but I still get the message and it crashes.
Anyone with/had similar problems?
Any suggestions?

Just a dumm question, but have you reconfigured your OSX audio/midi preferences to use the new Audio Interface driver? if not, Logic won't be able to recognize it.
If you did, then try this:
• Go to the ~/user/library/preferences/logic and throw the contents of Logic's preferences folder in the trash.
• Empty the trash, reboot your Mac and open Logic again.
In doing that, Logic will ask you to configure it's preferences - the same way it did when you first installed and opened it. If OSX recognizes the Audio Interface's driver, Logic will do as well.
(Note: in case you use a different set of keyboard commands, make sure to save them before taking these steps. You may import them later).
One last thing: when configuring the Audio/Midi Preferences - if the System freezes or crashes - then there's possibly a problem between OSX and your Audio Interface.

Logic crashes when opening song with EXS instrument

I'm having problem opening a L7 song that contains and EXS instrument. Can't get song open before logic crashes.
The song loads except for the exs file (stock sample in default library). "Loading audio files" for the EXS gets to the last wav file of the patch then stops, the command-period to cancel doesn't work. Logic freezes and L7 "not responding" and have to force quit. Ironically, this EXS patch works in a new song when loaded.
I think i have tried everything with project manager scans and prefs: rescanned project manager, removed the scans, changed all the project manager pref settings ("search using pm database only", unselected "pm on program launch", etc)
Its not just this song but backups / previous versions. Trashed logic preferences, etc but no change. This song also uses ewqlso (loads fine) but i have reduced the buffer on that and there should not be any memory problems.

Finally I got the free time to explin wht happened. Well, here is what happened to this particular corrupted song. I have heard rumours abound about OSX updates and EWQLxx but i have absolutely no proof of this just like I originally thought this was an EXS problem.
Anyways, I found a solution - With core audio disabled I emptied logic trash via key command, but did NOT reorganize song memory. That was the kicker for some strange reason.
So I think I figured out what some already know here but trying the three combinations (trash only, reorg only, or both together) may help solve similar issues.
Good luck, this one really blows under a tight deadline.

Logic crashes when I try to access Preferences

Logic Express 8 freezes up and crashes when I click on Preferences or Settings. I have tried reinstalling Logic, deleting Logic preferences in the Application Support folder, removing all of my third party audio unit plugins, and removing my rewire folder from Propellerheads Application Support folder. None of these methods that I found in other discussions have solved my problem. I'm not sure if this has to do with an incompatibility issue with Leopard or if I may have deleted or modified an important file that Logic relies on. I also tried reinstalling Pro Application support but it would not let me. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have yet to be able to use this program.

don't know the answer i'm afraid, but may be something to do with memory...
The SIGSEGV exception relates to an application attempting to access memory that it is not allowed to access, or, say attempts to write to a read-only location. what other programs have you got running ? Have you got any 3rd party plug ins running ?
Might be worth looking in activity monitor to see exactly what's running and then re create the error and see if this gives any more info. Also check usr/library/logs and there should be a logic crash log which may give more detail
