Logic 8 Enviroment - Dynamic MIDI Notes And Velocity

While doing some drum patterns with Stormdrum1/2, what I wanted to do (since I'm not a drummer) is create a simple drum pattern but have random hits to different drum pieces (if a loaded instrument support different drum pieces).
With another MACRO (PlaySeveralWhiteKeyNotes) I created in Logic 8's Enviroment, I'm able to do that.
Have a peek here.
http://www.digimixstudios.net/Dynami...esAndVelocity/
This is just a start.
With the output of my new MACRO, I can further apply a Transformer to have a range of velocities go to a specifie drum piece or even to another MIDI channel.

The link you provide does not work here - shows "Page not found".
It is hard to understand what you want to do, but it seems like you can solve your problem using just a simple "Mapped Instrument" in the Environment instead of Macro creation etc. The Mapped Instrument or a combination of Mapped Instruments offers many features like drum layering, custom pad velocity, midi channel, custom cable output for each pad etc. The Mapped Instrument can be used as Hyper Transformer, something like that. If you clarify your question and fix the link, it will be better for detail support.

  • How to create a group of midi notes and...?

Hi, I was thinking about if it's possible to create for example a group of 32 nidi notes with a specific duration and a specific separation between them without painting them.
And then, I have a drum on the beat with its midi notes, now I want to have a sound wich midi note is off the beat at the first time but after a time it gets on the beat linearly, is it possible without painting the notes?Maybe with the transform window??
    Thanks a lot!

Is there a ny option in logic to create multiple midi notes at once?
In my comment here, I described how to use the Hyper Editor to create multiple midi notes at once. That was for the purpose of creating a drum roll, but the method can also be used in other situations.
the second is a little bit earlier, the third a little bit more
I'm not sure I understand, but I might. I think the easiest way to do this is to convert the midi to audio, and then use Flex to alter the length (i.e., tempo) of the region.

  • Midi Duplicate Notes and Velocity issuses

Having issues with midi note duplicating.... ive checked the input filter to keep extranious events from getting in, and ive also checked my midi controller (maudio keystation) but everytime i play a software instrument, 4 notes get recorded as one. one litterally under the other (stacked).
how can i just record 1 note per key press. this whole thing is screwing up my velocities and volume

Sounds like you've got a MIDI loop going on, or your MIDI configuration is odd. Check that your keyboard isn't in some kind of layer mode and therefore sending notes out on multiple channels.

  • Logic Pro X: One MIDI note won't play

I am having a strange problem with Logic Pro X. I use a Yamaha CP33 as my main MIDI keyboard, connected by USB. In the past couple weeks, a strange problem has emerged - one of the notes from the keyboard, the B-2, to be specific, just doesn't trigger. At first I thought the key was broken, but it's okay, because:
    - all keys work fine when I use the keyboard's analog audio output
    - all keys work fine in MainStage
    - the non-functional key moves up and down if I choose to transpose the notes on the keyboard.
So I have concluded that it's a software issue specific to Logic. I have already tried reinstalling the Yamaha USB MIDI driver, it didn't help. Could it be some obscure setting in Logic that is messing things up? What do you suggest can I do to fix this?

    Hi
You may have set up LPX to use that MIDI note as an automation control, or as a keycommand
    a) Go to Preferences;Controller Assignments & check there
    b) Go to Preferences Key Commands and check there
Might be quicker to reset aboth?

  • Enviroment keyboard midi note on and no off?

why can't i get the enviroment display keyboard to display notes in realtime on and off. it currently only shows ON and never goes off, unless i reclick on the the display keyboard.
(if you are unsure what i mean, go to enviroment, click on new > keyboard)
it seems quite silly to have the keyboard show only notes on. i can't believe that is all it does.
does anyone know how to get it to respond to note off as well?

It shows note on and off events in the Input Monitor on mine - sorry, I don't have the answer but I don't think this is normal behaviour ?

  • Logic only plays one MIDI note at a time. Roland R8

Hey guys, totally new to MIDI and posted this question on another forum, but for some reason I can't get Logic to play more than one note at a time with my Roland R8 drum machine. I've searched the we far and wide along with this forum and the R8 manual to no avail.
Also, it's doesn't seem to play the full range of notes ie, anything above C6, when the R8 manual says that there are sounds there.
I've got a USB MIDI lead connected, with the in in the out and vice-versa. I've also attached a screen shot of my MIDI matrix thing and the inspector window for the instrument.
    Thanks so much!

  • HT200244 Hi, my name is josh and im having trouble with my midi driver in logic. i keep getting midi timeout and it pauses at checking midi drivers i am running osx 10.6.8 and i have logic pro 9

i cant seem to find out what it is i put pro tools on it but when i went to delete the drivers there was nothing in the folder that indicated digidesignmidi was in there

You should find the driver in
<Name of your system hard drive>/Library/Audio/Midi Drivers
You might also find one in
<Name of your System Hard Drive>/Users/<Your user name>/Library/Audio/Midi Drivers
Replace anything in <...> with your systems actual info...
Also check the Midi Devices folder in each of the Audio folders....

  • Using midi drums and Logic sounds

    Hi guys
I have been looking at the different softwares to use with my Alesis DM10 and Logic Pro X using the USB as when I currently record it just catches the midi notes and no sounds
I have seen BFD, NI Drums and the various others but they cost money and would like to use built in sounds to logic, is this possible or can I map the midi to Drummer at all ?
OR if anyone has any other bright ideas
    thanx in advance

    Hi
Drum Kit Designer  includes several different note/CC mappings:
    https://help.apple.com/logicpro-instruments/mac/10/#lgsi1c04d853
If this doesn't do it, you may need to remap the source module, or remap the MIDI within Logic

  • Best way to select BOTH notes and midi CC?

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to figure out the quickest, most efficient way to select and move both notes and MIDI CC's at the same time in the matrix editor w/ hyperview. The only way I've been able to accomplish this is to shift-drag around both parts, but this takes time time as you have to do it TWICE; once for the notes and once for the midi cc's. Unfortunately "select all" or "select within locators" does not select midi cc's.
What is the best way to deal with midi cc's? I wish there was some way to select and "lock" them to midi notes and when you drag the notes, it drags the midi cc as well, similar to how FCP locks audio and video together. Do other programs allow this functionality?
Thanks once again for any help/tips you can provide!

Functions > Include Non-note MIDI Events, but unfortunately there is no key command for it.
I prefer to have a screenset with an Event List open, so I can Command-~ to the event list, Command-A, and then drag in the Matrix. Or double click the fist note in the Event List and enter a new Bar# for its position. Or Command-C and Command-V, then enter a new number for a copy...
    ...you get the idea.

  • HELP - Logic Continuously Plays Midi Note

so when ever i adjust a parameter while holding down a note to listen to the change within a virtual instrument (3rd party and stock logic) logic continuously plays out a note and i have to close logic to get rid of it. its very annoying because whenever I'm working on a patch i have to save and close it out.
does anyone have any ideas in how to fix this?

To trash preferences go to the library folder in your user account folder (that's the one that has the little house icon). Once you open the library folder open the preferences folder and you will find I believe 3 logic preferences. They should all be together and look something like this: com.apple.logic.pro.cs
Trash those preferences and restart logic. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. I know from past experience any time Logic was acting kind of strange when I deleted the prefs everything seem to reset itself.
When you reopen Logic it will make new preferences in the preferences folder. Realize that if you have any custom key commands and such they will be deleted. Good luck!

  • Not all MIDI notes selected though they should be

If I still have your attention for a brief moment, I just had the most strange experience:
I selected a group of MIDI notes and dragged them - but then I saw that maybe 8-10 notes out of 12 bars were NOT selected, and thus NOT moved?
    What's that all about?
Maybe I should add, that I normally only use Logic for audio recording, and Cubase for MIDI. So this MIDI behaviour confuses me.

    Not so fast!
There are still ways to explain this behaviour, & a bug like this would have been reported by dozens of people by now…
Are you sure the unselected notes weren't previously selected?
    Here's the manual (p.174):
    _Making Rubber-Band Selections_
To select consecutive regions or events (or other elements, such as Mixer channel strips), click on the background and drag a rubber-band over them.
All regions or events touched, or enclosed, by the rubber-band (shaded area) will be selected.
    _Switching the Selection Status_
When you make any selection (including by rubber-band or horizontal selection) while holding down Shift, the active selection status of the regions or events will be reversed.
You can also reverse the selection status of all regions or events by using +Edit > Toggle Selection+ (default key command: Shift-T).
As an example: If you want to select all regions in a project, with the exception of a few, you can first select the regions that you do not want to choose, and then use the +Toggle Selection+ command.
Again, this is just an example. I'm 99% sure it will be something like this…

  • Midi note grab:  why do they all make sound?

When I am editing midi notes and I select, say, 3 measures of notes: As I'm selecting them ALL the notes make a sound. It's really loud and shocking to hear, especially with percussion.
Is there a way to turn this off while I am grabbing midi notes?

I should weigh in here and say I knew that my remark might upset some, and it wasn't really a personal remark to the OP, more of a general "oy vey!".
The reason I said it was because this is a fairly fundamental part of Logic, available in all editor windows, and clearly has a consistent button (with tool tips).
I'm not berating anyone for not sitting and reading the manual for three months before installing the software, or expecting anyone to memorise it. But by and large, people run complicated software, and then go to the manual when stuck (actually, often they don't even do that then, even though it's under the help menu in front of them, they come and ask on forums etc).
Doing this is really not the best way to learn, in my view.
What I really recommend doing is when you have some free time, pick a chapter "Oh, today let's learn about the event editor", and just pick up the manual and read the event editor chapter. Do this from time to time, and I guarantee you'll find lots of "oh, I didn't realise that" and "ah that's cool" and "oh, so that's what that's for!" moments.
Note that in my response, it wasn't just a RTFM, I did in fact post a reasonably comprehensive answer.
And I personally find a little humour here welcome, as long as it's not intrusive and doesn't disguise the solutions and problem solving help - so please lighten up on some of the guys that do spend a lot of their own time helping others here, especially when the same "well I haven't read the manual but how do i..." questions come up time and time again - I consider a little fun to be some small relief and enjoyment about contributing here.
Without that, I think I'd probably go mad and leave...

  • How do I move cc 64 (sustain) data in sync when I move midi notes?

In the matrix editor, when I 'Select All Following' in order to move everything that follows back a few ticks to get rid of a rythmic hesitation, the sustain pedal data doesn't move with the notes. Obviously, this messes up the piano pedaling. Is there a way to 'attach' the controller info to the notes when I move them, or is there a better view window in which to this sort of editing? Thanks!

I was trying to figure this out myself and didn't understand the previous reply at first. But after a few seconds playing around I got it. If you open the midi matrix editor (in the 'windows' menu) you can select the notes you desire to move. After selecting the notes go to the event list (in the 'windows' menu). You should see the notes you've already selected in the event list highlighted in gray.
The items listed as 'control' are the sustain pedal controls in the midi information. (you can tweak these number values here as well). Holding the 'shift' key down, click all of the sustain pedal control items that you want to move. They should be within and/or around the already highlighted notes (the list is in order of sequence of the song). Once all is selected you can switch back to the matrix editor and drag the notes where you want them like normal, but you will also be moving the sustain information since you selected it in the event list.
Also, within the matrix editor itself you can use the view menu and navigate to the hyper draw option and choose sustain pedal. Now you can see the sustain controls under the midi notes and edit the length, etc. You can use the little arrow on the left to change what the hyper draw editing will change as well (volume, sustain pedal, etc.). Hope that helps.

  • Is there a way to reverse a region with midi notes?

i have a two bar loop of some midi notes and want to reverse the region and see what it sounds like.

Try a transformer operation with the Reverse Position preset. Page 730 of the manual. This is the most powerful midi sequencer, use the features!

  • Will Logic Pro X allow me to whistle a melody, convert that into MIDI information, and turn those notes into chords?

I'd love to be able to whistle or hum a melody, convert that recording into MIDI data, and then have those notes play back as guitar chords. Is this possible "out of the box"?
How much would be automated, and how much work would need to be done by hand?
    How about with Plug-Ins?
Also, does Logic Pro X offer a one finger chord option for playing MIDI controllers? Thanks!

good for you, Data... so you already know that, even if it would work, CORRECTING the automatically generated transcription takes longer than just writing it by hand, then inputing it into the computer... How about the joy of finding just the right changes to go with your great composition? The computer is dumb, it only comes up with what was programed into it, and that, at best, is mediocre. If one is happy with this, it only shows one's insecurity of the little knowledge that one might have. And definitely kills the creative initiative.
Then, if you sincerily think that studying music is not necessary to make music... I really feel sorry for you... and I feel sorry for Music too. Or, maybe my cat is a great composer, and I didn't know it?...:-)
