Logic 8 Mono Output

Hi Everybody!
I'm getting crazy to find out how to get mono output on my tracks.
Basically i need to send mono outputs to my SSL matrix, to be able to use its sum engine.
I don't feel comfortable using the pan pot on the stereo outputs...
Is there a chance that APPLE can solve this issue and bring logic to protools level?
Tnx!

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to get a Mono output from Logic.
You kinda have to pan the stuff into a stereo output.
Yay... not.
This is why most of my final mixes I am doing on Pro Tools HD. Easier to set up routing, and no chance of it mistakenly getting changed by a pan pot.
Now, all you PT haters out there, join the party and bash me... thhhpthhhtp!!!

  • Why won't Logic let me do a mono output?

I've done everything in the book. I can't get Logic to give me just a single analog output for a mono audio track. Even switched the main analog outputs in the Environment Window to mono and created the extra mono tracks for Output 2,4,6,8. Logic tech support says just Pan your audio channels to the L or R, thus forcing a mono output. Thats a nice trick Logic tech support but a **** Professional Audio Workstation should have the simple option of a freaking mono output don't ya think!!!!
Ok i'm done venting... let me know what you all do for a mono output. My interface is a Rosetta 800 if that is part of the problem. Thanks everyone!

    1. When you staretd Logix thefirt time did you run the Logic Setup Assistant so that it would create Outputs foir you or start with an included template so thatyou would have them?
    2. On the Ouput object in the lower left hand corner you will see a symbol with 2 circles. If you click on it it will change to one. This is what the link that the responder above posted is showing you.
BTW, when I try new software that tons of people are using successfully and I cannot get it do do something as basic as this I reaact by thinking, "What am I not understanding about the program?" rather than "What is the matter with this p.o.s., how can they call it pro?"
Please allow me to suggest to you that it is a far more constructive way not only of approaching software but approaching life.

  • Logic 8 output - mono/stereo

For those who uses Logic with external mixer: is it possible to assign track output as MONO? That was not possible in LAP7.
    thanks

Me too. - How can you create headphone mixes with only stereo assigns - I can make mono output channels easily enough, 1, 2, ect, but when I try to assign any channel or bus to an output, I'm presented with only 'stereo 1-2, stereo 3-4'.
Using 8 of my hardware outputs for 4 headphone mixes is lame. Any ideas?
(no pan option in sends yet.)

  • Can't send mono outputs from Logic 9 to my Motu Ultralite

Hi all, any help would be most appreciated. I want to send mono channels from Logic 9 to my Soundcraft mixer via my Motu Ultralite in order to try out some live dubbing. When I set a channel to mono nothing comes out of the Motu. I can make it work by panning things left and right but surely there is a better way?! I went through all the mono outputs but none seem to work.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

I have a Powermac G5 at work and tried with the Mail Client and with Entourage. Both were successfull.

My ISP at home is All2Easy.net, but I also recently signed up for MSN, I'm not sure if you can even set up the computer to send through MSN though. I have tried smtp.email.msn.com but can't get it to work (not sure if it is because I can't send anything, or if they are the wrong settings)
I have it set to "log-in requires authentication". The settings hadn't changed when the problems started occuring though. An interesting new development is that I can't connect through All2Easy anymore (I chose them for the price).

  • How to create a mono output from a mono aux send?

Trying to create a mono output from a mono aux send but option available is only a stereo output. Any way to force a mono output?

Yes - I'm aware of the mono vs stereo. Let me outline more precisely what I'm attempting to do. (By the way, I know this can be done as I do it easily in MOTU's Digital Performer.) The desire is to create a mono send inside Logic that I can then send out through my MOTU interface into a Lex 300 reverb unit. I then take the analog outputs from the Lex 300 and bring them back into Logic. I want the send to be mono as I am mostly sending from mono recorded instruments and voices. So chain would look like this:
    Track 1
    Send Bus 8
    _Bus 8 Mono output_
    MOTU 2408 Input
    Patch Bay cable
    Lex 300 Mono input ///
    (now coming out)
    Lex 300 Stereo Out
    patch bay
    MOTU Stereo Inputs 15/16
    Logic Stereo Input 15/16
    Mix.
The problem with the chain is that I cannot select a _mono output_ - it only allows for a stereo output. I can pan it one way or the other but it still does not seem to function correctly and toggling the mono/stereo button does not change the fact that this is still a stereo output. I hope this does not make it more complicated - it seems like there should be a simple solution. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Logic for Output type determination of shipment

    Hi All,
I have a requirement where in when a shipment is being saved (on create/change) i need to put a logic in an enhancement to identify if a particular set of output types will be generated or not for that shipment.
Any info on how i can do this? Is there any FM that can fetch that data.

  • Stereo Record, Mono output

I have been recording voices through a Samson microphone on my pc (using Soundbooth CS4) and thought that I was recording in a stereo format, however I seem to be getting mono output.  The only way that I can tell is by putting on headphones and hearing the recording (finished .wav) on one side only (the left).
What am I doing wrong and is there a way to correct what has already been recorded without re-recording it?  I would like the stereo like render with sound coming from both headphones, etc..
    Thanks

Sounds like you had a similar problem to one I just solved for myself. Your recording is coming out of only one speaker because it was recorded using only one channel in a stereo recording format. You have to change it to a mono recording. Here's how...
Under the "file" drop down, choose "Export" and then choose "Channels to Mono". It will save both channels of a stereo recording as single, individual Mono .wav files with a "L" or "R" designation for right or left channel. Simply keep the one with your recording on it and discard the other that will be blank. You can then keep the file as a .wav file or as I did, do a "save as" to create my desired .mp3 file (or whatever format you require).
This new file will now play as a mono recording through both speakers.  Worked like a charm for me - hope this helps!

  • E-Mu Mono Output question

Sorrry but this whole patchmix business is confusing
Anyway, i plugged the Left Output of my E-Mu 1212m to a full range speaker, and so like u'd figure it acted as a left speaker..
i'm wonderng how you could change it to a Mono Output so my one speaker gets both Left and Right channels.
(without manual panning of course, i've found that you can't really get too "loud" without distortion)
    any help would be appreciated

    Hey,
As you only have one speaker, then you can plug one side of the output straight to it and you will get mono if it's from a mono source.
If it's from a stereo source coming into PatchMix (from ASIO or WDM etc), or Mono (from a mono in), then you need to centre pan it.
If it starts to distort, then turn down the mono-panned channel slightly, and turn everything else down until you get the balance back.

  • ROUTING TO MONO OUTPUT

Does anyone know if there's a way to route directly from a track to a mono output without having to use the pan knob. basically a mono track with no pan knob then...
the reason the do this as i'm mixing out of the box and each track is going out an individual output. would be great to not have to use the pan. the way you can do it in PT....
    any ideas?

  • How to make dual mono output from one mono track

Please forgive my complete ignorance of music mixing/sound board terminology: I'm only using Logic Pro X because Apple deliberately made it impossible to use Soundtrack Pro as part of a roundtrip with FCPx. Soundtrack Pro is what I've always used for editing audio for video.
I recorded two tracks with the video: microphone on the right and and lavalier on the left. The mic was just a backup and the lav track is what I want to use.  I imported the audio into LPx and now I want to use only the left channel but I want it to output equally on both channels. I've searched all over for a simple explaination (at least one who is not a music editor can understand) and haven't found one.
How can I do this? Thanks.
Second question: I found the little icon that lets makes the timeline scroll to follow the playhead (ridiculous that FCPx doesn't have this) but I can only make it work for one clip at at time. Is there a way to turn it on permanently?

On the Channels Strip (of the Audio Track with the Audio Region), ctr+click on the left segment of the Input Button. That opens a popup menu where you can select Left (only the left channel of the Audio Region is played as mono), or Right (only the right channel of the Audio Region is played as mono).
Once the signal flow of the Channel Strip is mono (one channel), you can use the "Mono➤Stereo" version of some plugins to convert the Channel Strip to a stereo channel.
About your second question. If you are referring to the little blue "Catch Playhead Button", that automatically scrolls the Workspace when the Playhead reaches the right border to keep the Workspace visible. You also can also enable  the "Scroll in Play" mode in the local View Menu. That one locks the Playhead in the center and scroll the Workspace "underneath"
However if you are referring to that little Play icon in the left upper corner of the Region Header (only visible in the Editor), that one, the "Solo Play Button", only plays that Region in solo mode. It is basically a combination of "Play " and "Solo" in on button. You can find all those little informations and much more in my graphically enhanced manual "Logic Pro X - How it Works".
    Hope that helps

  • How to change email/fax number retrieval logic for output...

    Hi,
In my requirement, for sending the output by fax / email, for e.g. take certificate of analysis, the customer master data is checked and the data mentioned there is used to send the output. In addition, in customer master transaction XD01/XD02 I see an additional tab called contact person which has information of each contact person along with their department numbers and fax num and email ids.
In ADR3 I noticed that these are stored.
    In short
In XD03,  under address tab a fax num maintained which I do not want to use. Rather,
Under contact person tab , the entry which has dept number as say A100, the associated fax num is the one to which I want the COA to be sent.
Where exactly is the code that reads these entries and determines the fax number and email ids to which the output needs to be sent ? May be there I need to change the logic to include a check such that entries that have dept as A100 will be checked and those fax and email ids will be selected and set.
Or if there is any other way this can be achieved, pl advise.
    thnks

    Senthil,
The COA trigerring works fine. The delivery for  which PGI will be done and then COA will be sent that has the output configured such that Fax will be sent. In SOST I can see the entry which shows the fax num as say 787878.
But this was the number found in the ADDRESS tab in XD03 for that ship to partner. I do not want that fax num to be used. I want the fax number that I enter in an additional tab and which is stored in KNVK and ADR3 tables.
So once SAP determines it has to fax the COA , SAP shoud be reading the ship to pary fax num, right ? Where is that code in standard SAP ? Bcos I need to change the logic to read somwhere else !! Hope you are able to follow me now ?
    thnks

  • Logic live outputs pops intermittently?

Using Logic Pro in a live setting in church concerts, I'm getting random pops in my main FOH output, and I cannot pinpoint the reason, unless I am just taxing my laptop's capacity. Anyone else with experience on a G4 over-taxing the CPU and getting pops or clicks?
    Here's the problem:
Maybe half a dozen times during the 2 hour concert, I will hear a minor pop in the FOH output, usually during music. Sometimes it happens just after I slightly change the EQ on the main output, sometimes it happens when I haven't touched the computer for 30 seconds or so. It appears to be almost random.
    Here's my setup:
Using Logic with iBook G4 (1GB RAM) and MOTU Ultralite Firewire audio mixer doing live, single mic gospel concerts. Using iTunes to playback .aif stereo tracks, and using Shure wireless mic and wireless IEM monitors. Pretty simple setup, 1 mic, 1 stereo feed from iTunes (going out to MOTU Output 7-8, then analog patch cords to MOTU Input 7-8). Two stereo outputs, FOH and IEM. Using Aux objects as inputs, buses to get to SpaceDesigner reverb and IEM output mix. Doing some EQing on mic, IEM and FOH output, plus compression on mic. Using 128 cache to keep latency unnoticeable.
Using the System Performance window, it is using just over 1/2 of the CPU capacity. If I turn Space Designer off, I am using an 1/8 of the CPU. I am not recording, nor moving the timeline at all. I use iTunes instead of laying the tracks end to end in the Arrange window so that I can freely choose between over 50 songs at the whim of the singer. And, it sounds great, and easier to carry than the 01V I was flying with.
Of course, I have no other apps running other than iTunes and Logic Pro and Stickies. But, the CPU capacity monitor being over 1/2 makes me nervous.
Based on the answers to this query, I am considering getting a MacBook Pro for the increased CPU, as well as bigger screen. But, if it doesn't solve the pops, I will have spent $3,000 for naught.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Couple of questions....
Do you get the pops with Space Designer off?
SD has to process a lot of info and traditionally, laptops
don't have as efficient a bus system. If not using Space Designer clears up your problem then you pretty much know that the ibook's bus system just can't handle it.
But first!! try another player than ITunes. ITunes is not the most efficient file player around.
Also, if you do have to use another reverb, try using a couple of Logic's verbs, say a Platinum and a Gold. Sometimes using two lesser quality reverbs at lower settings can produce wonderful results.

  • Difference between logical destination & output devise in Purchase message

    Hi all,
I defined a printer determination per printer for a condition type used in the ME22N transaction via OMJR or NACE : printer A
    I defined a another outputdevice in the SU01 transaction : printer B
When I print condition type in ME22N, the logical destination from the communication method displayed is printer A.
But when I open the SP01 transacation, the output devise is printer B.
Why logical destination from ME22N and output devise from SP01 are different ?
How can I make sure logical destination defined in OMJR or NACE will be used in SP01 ?
    Thank you
    Pierre

    Thank you,
basically we had to change smartform, the code said il has to be printed in logical destination defined in SP01.
So, we changed it and now MN04, MASS, OMJR transactions works.

  • Logic Analyzer output of 7445N BCD-to-Decimal

    Hello All,
I am testing the output of a 7445N BCD-to-Decimal decoder with the use of Multisim 10 word generator and the logic analyzer.  I have the inputs of the 7445N connected to the word generator counting up from 0 to 9 binary.  The first four inputs of the logic analyzer are connected to the inputs of the 7445N as well.  I can see the correct pattern of binary number being generated by the word generator at the logic analyzer. However, the logic analyzer connections to the output of the 7445N shows flat lines.  I don't see the binary numbers generated.  I connected logic probes to the output of the 7445N, and a binary pattern is shown.  If I connect a single line from the logic analyzer to the output of the 7445N, then I can see the logic low and high for that particular pin.  But again, if I connect more than one line from the logic analyzer to the 7445N, it goes back to a flat line.  Has anyone seen this before?  Is there a specific method to test this particular IC output with the logic analyzer?   Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Arnie
