Logic 8 - NODES - Tiger / Leopard

I cannot get my Logic NODE to work properly, and while I am actively troubleshooting,
I wanted to ask:
Has anyone out there successfully used a G5 running Tiger and Logic 8 as main machine,
and then used an Intel Macbook running LEOPARD as the Node?

I got impatient, so I downgraded my macbook back to 10.4.11.
The nodes 'kinda' work, but really only with Sculpture so far.
Any 3rd party AU's at all (including plugins that are installed on both computers)
gives me instant glitchy audio.
so for me thus far, it's not a network problem, not a cable problem, not a leopard problem anymore.

  • Logic Pro + Node + Studio Setup, Need Advice, Please Help.

    Hello everyone.
Ive just recently bought Logic 7.1 for my Quad PowerMac G5, and Im loving it!
Im going to build a studio in my garden (yup, im no pro). And I was thinking of purchasing a PowerBook for the studio and offload all processing and storage to my Quad machine (located in my study room in the house).
Im also considering purchasing another PowerMac G5 as for my server, and I would like to setup the server to also process Logic data and storage. Is this possible? Would i need to buy Xsan?
Another question, can I use more than 1 PowerMac G5 for Logic Pro? Also, how do I setup a Node? And in order for the Node to work do I need to purchase more Logic Pro USB Keys?
You may be wondering why am I going to purchase a PowerBook for the studio, well the answer is, i don't feel its safe to have a very expensive machine in studio, don't want it to get damaged by environment such as damage or theft, plus i spend alot of time studying.
One more thing, I have a PowerBook G4 and IMac G5, can i also setup Nodes on these machines aswell?
Any input would be brilliant. Also, your suggestions on studio setup would be also welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

You won't need Xsan. I would test things out before getting too far into the idea. Your host should really be the strongest computer, all 3rd party, EXS, etc..plugins are not nodeable. You can use more than 1 node but as I see it your bottleneck would be the PBook. You can use regular file sharing just fine for this. You will need 1 USB key for each computer running Logic, the Node app requires no key. Therefore, you can run Logic on your book and 3 nodes with 1 key if you like. I would encourage you to use an iMac G5 as opposed to a Pbook if you really want to flex Logic muscle, which from the sounds of it, you intend to. iMac G5s are even cheaper than the Pbooks. Another thing to consider is some people have had no luck setting up Nodes-I've never had problems with it but there are some out there, maybe they're weird, maybe I am-but don't be 100% reliant on Nodes all the time until you have proven that in practice.

  • Logic 6 and Tiger Issue

I just upgraded to tiger, from panther.. I'm still using logic pro 6, and after 3 days of erratic behaviour (long long start ups amongst other dialogue boxes), now it wont start up at all.
I also use a motu 828 mkII, and have installed the latest tiger drivers for this product, to no avail.
If anyone wants to know, i really don't think it's compatible with tiger, and although i was going to upgrade anyway as soon as i could, now i have a problem..... do i go back to panther in order to finish my tune? what a waste of time! Shame there wasnt a warning from apple..so i do it for you.

Be aware, there is one bug that I know of with Logic Pro 6.4 and 10.4. If you try to change a song's metronome settings, Logic will crash.
I think that's the only known issue.
The workaround is to create songs in 10.3 with the desired metronome settings and use them as templates in 10.4.

  • How to Share content between Tiger & Leopard

    Hi Everyone
I didn't know where to post that question so I placed it in both Tiger & Leopard Discussion.
    Here it is :
My wife just got an Iphone 4 although she was aware of the non compatibility with Tiger.
She Intended to get the 3GS, but she was offered the same deal for the 4 so she went for it.
Now she has an Iphone 4 AND wants to stick to Tiger for her work.
    How can we fix that?
I was thinking of installing Leopard on another partition so she could switch to it whenever she needs to sync her Iphone.
Since she's going to use that partition for only 5% of the time, Is there a way she can to associate her adress book entries, photos, music ,from these 2 partitions . In other words, Is there a way she can update an AdressBook entry in Tiger and have it be replicated/updated on Leopard's partition.
The Idea is , so whenever Itunes is syncing the iphone, it goes and look into these folders where the content is shared by both system.
    Does that make any sense?
    Thanks for your inputs

I'll probably stick with the initial idea and Install 10.6 on her G5's second disk
If it is a G5, 10.6 won't work, 10.5.x is the latest they'll ever run.
wonder what are the other Tiger/Iphone4 users doing ...
Most are trying to go 10.5.x at least...
Mac system requirements for iPhone 4...
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
    * Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
    * Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    * iTunes 9.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    * iTunes Store account
    * Internet access
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it!
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
    * Mac computer with an Intel processor
    * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

    2 hard drives, 2 OS (Tiger/Leopard) same Mac...any suggestions?

I'm thinking of adding a 200gb hd to a g4 mac that has a 80gb hd installed. Would like to run 10.5 Leopard on the 200 and 10.4 Tiger on the 80 to accomodate software that won't run on 10.5. Will that work? That is the question. Any suggestions?

  • Logic 8 performance: tiger vs. leopard

i've been waiting to upgrade to leopard, and i'd be interested if anyone has done an os upgrade and could provide some feedback regarding logic 8's performance.

    mmh,
some people warn that leopard & logic 8 is not the best.
speaking for myself: I have 2 mac systems. 1. iMac core duo 2.16 + 2gm ram - runs leo + logic 8 with line6 gearbox plugins and battery 3, perfect, no problems, hardly any overloads, (can't remeber when i had the last one and I worked wuite heavily with it the last days).
    really nice
2.macbook pro 2.4ghz -2gbram: (also leo plus L8)totally differnet story.
cpy spikes radomly, overloads all the time, can even run 2 track reliable.
This stinks. the mbp is not usable for audio purposes.
In both cases i use a alesis io26, which seems the most stable part of the setup.
problems are caused by some apple issuses (L8mbpleo) and line 6 stuff as well.
i both are fixing their issues soon !!!.
I wanna be able to mix mobile. (long hours in airplaines get boring ... )

  • Logic & Mainstage Crash On Leopard 10.5.2

I have discussed with many Leopard user lately...
This is what I heard from them
    1. with 10.5.1 and Mainstage 1.0.2 I had a pretty **** solid setup, since the 10.5.2 update I'm getting crazy cpu spikes all over the place and its basically feeling a lot less reliable. My advice, if you're using Mainstage for gigging, hold of on the osx update, I'm prob gonna have to roll back. You'd think Apple would test this sorta thing especially on their own programs!
    2. When I ran Logic on my PowerBook under Leopard it would frequently crash, have errors, CoreAudio Failures, complete drop outs, hangs, zombies.. you name it.. all of which were resolved by re-installing tiger..
Thus I have two partitions on the PowerBook now, Tiger and Leopard, Tiger is a base install with nothing on that I don't need for Sound, and Leopard is my playhouse for all other things.. ***** to have to reboot but it gives you an air of confidence when you're recording that mdsworker (Spotlight) won't suddenly decide to have an episode and eat all your cpu cycles like it does in Leopard.
    3. I've read that AirPort screws up the CPU. Can you disable AirPort and test again?
    4. Not only 10.5.2 but all of leopard, I gave up stripped everything of my mac book pro and reinstalled Tiger, Logic and Mainstage. It took 4 hours to do but I at least stable now
I'm surprised Apple is doing nothing but making the problem worse. I've had an Apple computer in one form or another since 1980 and this is the first time I feel really let down.
They are turning into what Steve Jobs called Microsoft
    "A third rate software company"
    5. How is Mainstage with Tiger then? I found it was pretty stable under Leopard 10.5.1 so may just roll back to that but have been considering going all the way back to Tiger though. Leopard as a whole seems pretty stable now but its like they're not too fussed about Mainstage users, the 1 program that needs 100% reliability.
    6. It's much more stable under Tiger no dropouts or problems I won't update to Leopard until I'm sure that it will work
    7. Well, I still use Tiger and since the last Airport update neither Logic nor Mainstage work properly until I swtch off Airport. Before this update I had no problems WHATSOEVER with Airport and Logic running at the same time.

A lot of the comments in your post were mine and I have an update!
I attended a Mainstage demo and my local apple dealers store and was such a pain in the *** that the apple rep & the guy who owns the store pulled me aside and asked me what they could do to I guess basically stop me from messing their demo (this was at the point they were stress testing Mainstage on a mac book pro without any CPU problems at all.
So the next day I took my mac in and the service tech did a full diagnostic on my mac, replaced a bunch of ram (it was apple ram not 3rd party) with new memory all for free!!!
In addition the service rep contacted apple Logic support to see what's being done and they advised that they are aware of the problems and there will be a fix in the next update.
Anyway the new ram has helped a bit I still get the occasion pop and crash but I can at least play a gig without watching the CPU meter all night,
The moral of the story is if you have problem, find a demo and be a pain in the butt. It really works

  • Will Logic 711 work on Leopard

Hi I am on the last version of Tiger currently but I am really considering on moving to Leopard. I was wondering will Pro Logic 7.11 work on Leopard as I have a lot of my projects made with this DAW.
I particularly want to hear from users who are already using this version of the DAW on Leopard about their experiences.
Thanx ahead of time for any info you can give.

I used to have Logic Pro 7 installed on Leopard and it ran fine. I never really used it much so I can't say if I would have encountered some problems down the road or not, but I would think it would work fine for you.
I did some quick research, though, and there seem to be mixed opinions on the issue, but most say that 7.1.1 works fine for Leopard. Here is a link to a thread on these forums that you might find helpful -- a couple of people talk about their experiences with 7.1.1 on Leopard and Tiger here:

Hope you found something helpful here!

  • Logic 9.01 / Snow Leopard / problems with Sonata-font !

Is anybody here working with the adobe sonata score-font on Logic 9.01 and SL ?
Since I updated to 9.01 and OSX 10.61 I cannot not use it anymore - everytime i open the score-editor the CPU-usage goes up to 100% and Logic freezes when clicking inside the score.
    Any Experiences / Solutions ?
On Logic 9.0 and OSX 10.58 it worked perfectly, the problem occured after updating to snow Leopard.

  • File Sharing on a mixed Tiger-Leopard network

I have a LAN with two machines, a PPC with 10.4.11 and a new Laptop with 10.5.1. If I turn on file sharing on the Tiger machine, I can see and access it from Leopard. But if I turn on file sharing on the Laptop, I can find the laptop as a server when I browse from the Tiger machine, but cannot connect to it. So essentially I have one way file sharing.
The network is a new Apple Airport Extreme and the problem exists whether I have the laptop connected wirelessly or through a hard ethernet port, so I don't think it is the LAN.
A tech support call to Apple resulted in a transfer from the first technician to a product support unit ("... this may be an emerging Leopard issue") and a 2 hour hold before the call was dropped. Worst customer support I have had from Apple-- and I have been a customer since a Mac Plus and system 3.2...
Anyone successfully mount a shared volume on a Leopard machine using another running Tiger?

Finally figured this out. It has to do with the changes in how Leopard implements a Firewall. The firewall settings in Leopard have been moved from the "Sharing" panel to "Security".
The solution for me was to go to the Leopard machine System Prefs and turn on file sharing. (Note that "Screen Sharing" only works between two Leopard systems) Add whatever folders you want shared; the default is to share only the "Public" folder. I also changed the users to "read & write"; the default is "read only" after highlighting the folders I wanted write privileges on. You have to do this folder by folder. If you want file sharing using anything but the Apple File Protocol (AFP), you have to set it under "options".
Now go to the "Security" Panel and click "Firewall". The Leopard Firewall set to "Allow only essential services" blocks file sharing. Set it to "Set access for specific services and applications". You should see "File Sharing (AFP)" in the window.
The Leopard system can now be found by browsing servers from other machines on the network.

  • How to install Windows 7 on MacBook with Tiger + Leopard upgrade using Boot Camp

    Hi,
I've had Vista installed on a separate partition on my MacBook for a while, but wanted to upgrade to Windows 7. I've completely wiped the HDD, re-installed Tiger, upgraded to Leopard and installed Windows 7 using boot camp from within OSX. However, I now can't boot back into OSX - I believe it's because I don't have the latest version of Boot Camp within Windows 7 (it doesn't appear on the task bar), but I also don't have a full copy of Leopard, only the upgrade disk.
Is there any way to (a) boot back into OSX (I've tried holding down the option key and this doesn't work) and (b) installing a version of Boot Camp that will enable me to switch between both operating systems as I was when Vista was installed & without having to purchase the full copy of Leopard?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Elliot.

Try to boot from the 10.4 disk then and "Repair Disk". If you can, then try booting from the 10.5 disk and do the same.
Have you tried holding down the C key also when trying to boot from the Install disks? It could take 30 seconds to a minute or more for the C key/Option key reboots. The Mac DVD HAS to be the OS installer disk not the applications installer, etc,. Sorry if I keep bringing this up.
You have to keep holding it down the whole time it boots, either it will bypass it and reboot into Windows or it should get to the boot loader window with at least Windows showing up.
If you can still boot into Windows with no problems then Windows SHOULD show up in the boot loader window. (C key/Option key) It's hardware related, it's the computers manual way of looking for a bootable OS if there's no OS installed yet.
Don't forget to disconnect any USB devices until you get it fixed.
Also try to boot from the Windows  installer disk and "Repair Windows" and see what happens.
Other then your DVD drive may be on it's last legs, I can't really think of any reason you can't boot from the Mac DVD's.  All the other post's I searched for eventually got the DVD boot working, even 10.6 and 10.7 are having that issue, tho rarely.
    elliotfromnewark wrote:
Hi, ...........inserting the Leopard disk once in Windows to install boot camp and it says that the version on the DVD is only compatible with XP SP2 or Vista.................
Don't run the installer this time, if a window pops up to "Run" or "Open",  just open it. If it doesn't open the DVD and look for the BootCamp.exe. Right click on the .exe (or whatever it's called) and select the trouble shoot compatibility mode and select Vista. Yes, I know you have W7. See if that works.
It may have buggered the Mac OS side so you may have to get DiskWarrior (worked for some) or the like in order to fix it. It would definitely be useful in the future.

  • Help needed with Emagic AMT8/Unitor8 and Logic 9.01 Snow Leopard

    Hello
I have a strange problem here... I have an AMT8 connected via USB to my Mac Pro (directly, not via an USB-Hub) and 2 Unitor8s (one connected to the AMT8 and one to the first Unitor8).
I can see that the units communicate with each other, but when I open Logic Pro 9.0.1 there are only the first 8 Ports of the AMT8 available, the other 16 ports are greyed out). This happens using Snow Leopard. In Audio/Midi-Manager I can only see the AMT8 as well, although the unit name is AMT8/Unitor8).
When I go back to my other OS (10.5.8 with Logic Pro 8 latest version) all three units are working and I can see them in the Audio/Midi-Manager.
I reinstalled the AMT8-Drivers from the DVD (when I open the driver file it says V 2.2) but with no luck. So I know the units are working under 10.5.8 and Logic 8 but not under 10.6.1 with Logic 9.0.1.
I tried what was described in another topic (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10142376&#10142376) but it didn't change anything.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi
Thanks for the link. I tried it but with no luck.
But at the moment it seems to work. I copied the EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin from my previous 10.5.8 system to my new system and now it works which is strange because both drivers had the same file-size and date. Well, I'll see how stable it is...
    Thanks for your help!

  • Using Xserve as Logic Pro Node

I am curious if Xserve units may be used as nodes for Logic Pro. If it is possible, how would I accomplish it? Would there be an issue if I had an intel MacBook?
    Thank You

Well, my space is limited and if it works the way I think it can, It would make for an awesome mobile rig. It may overkill because you pay for features that wouldn't be used (or maybe I could find use it's server capabilites) but the concept of having 1u units is really attractive.
I was considering getting a Waves APA44M (http://www.waves.com/content.asp?id=1622#top) to increase processing power. I connects via ethernet just like a node would. The drawback is it can only be used with Waves plug-in. At $2400 (retail without plug-ins) it would be more logical to spend a bit more and get a unit that would host any plug-ins.
I have heard of a studio doing this. Criteria in Miami perhaps? If some has used an Xserve a node, please fill me in - especially if with a laptop.
    Thanks

  • Unsyncable? -- Tiger, Leopard, G4 and iPad...

    Clever me...
When it dawned on me that it was not possible to sync (or perhaps even to use) my trusty G4 with my new iPad, I proceeded to install Leopard. That went well until I discovered that my Photoshop 7 would no longer work (nor, not the least, I wouldn't be able to use the thousands of dollars of OS9 applications on which I depend -- it's a dual boot machine).
So I installed Leopard on an external volume, and I start up from it when I need to sync the iPad... well, kind of sync the iPad. Upon installing Leopard over an image of my full Tiger installation, the installer didn't incorporate the calendar, contacts, iTunes music, or mail from Tiger to Leopard.
As a result, there's not much to sync to the iPad, other than iPad apps, updates, and iOS upgrades.
    Two questions:
1.) Is there a convenient way to synch my Leopard volume to my Tiger volume, so that the above data is placed there (where it can presumably later be synced to the iPad)?
2.) Do you imagine that Apple's forthcoming iCloud will permit me to sync directly from my Tiger installation to iCloud, and thereafter to my iPad?
    Cheers, NC
[PowerMac G4 Dual Boot DP 1.25 GHz, Mac OS X 10.4.11, volume with Mac OS X 10.5.8, iPad (original) iOS 4.3.xxx up to date]

    1. Not that I'm aware of, but might check out Google Sync Services.
    2. I do imagine so, in fact I think Leo/10.5 won't be able to sync even, & shortly after ONLY Lion.

  • Print Color Management Problem w. Photoshop Elements and Tiger/Leopard

Has anyone tried printing with ICC profiles through Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac? Apparently, it does not work on Tiger nor Leopard? My prints look very dark and over-saturated.
The Datacolor folks, who make the Spyder3 calibrators I'm using, say my prints look like they are being "double color managed," possibly once by PSE and once by the printer driver (even though it's turned off).
Over at the Adobe Forums some say it's a problem with Leopard. I'm not so sure, because I found that printing color management works fine on a Mac with Photoshop Elements 4.01 and Tiger. Any comments? Thanks.

Aha! Got it. Adobe has confirmed that the problem is on their end. PSE 6 is double color managing the images. Here's what one user got in reply from Adobe on the subject. There are two separate answers:
Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.
After consulting with my colleagues about the issue you raised, I can let you know the following:
The issue is both on our as well as the driver software side and the workaround we have given is the best available at this time. This issue is affecting all printers, not just Epson or Canon.
The soft proofing effect that you are seeing in the print preview is indeed an attempt at soft proofing. However since Photoshop Elements managed prints are incorrectly double colour managed it is not as useful as it was initially designed.
As to the exact details of why this occurred, we have no official information.
We believe that this will resolve the issues you are experiencing, however, should the reply not help solve the problem, please contact us again, quoting the case number given above, and we will re-open the case.
    Answer # 2
We have had word back from our engineers regarding your issue.
The Photoshop Elements team are aware of the problem and are working with Apple and the printer manufacturers to get this to work correctly. In the meantime, the only workaround is to switch off colour management in Photoshop Elements and let the printer handle the colour management.
Unfortunately we can not make an estimation as to when a fix will be provided. We will close the case for the time being as there really is nothing more we can do about this issue besides offering the suggested workaround. Closing this case does not mean that the research will stop however and the engineers are working on a solution to this.
As the tech noted, let the printer handle the color instead. Tell PSE not to manage color so it is the step sending the data unaltered. When the print dialogue comes up, under the Color Correction heading, change the pull down menu to "ColorSync". In the menu below that, choose the correct profile for the paper you're using. If the Brightness menu is still active, look for any choice that allows you to turn it off. If none exists, leave it on Normal. If the options below that for Color Balance and Intensity are not grayed out, make sure they are at the center positions (no effect).
These steps are the same as before, except you're doing them in reverse. Photoshop is doing nothing and the print driver is handling the ColorSync chores rather than the other way around.
