Logic 8 output - mono/stereo

For those who uses Logic with external mixer: is it possible to assign track output as MONO? That was not possible in LAP7.
thanks

Me too. - How can you create headphone mixes with only stereo assigns - I can make mono output channels easily enough, 1, 2, ect, but when I try to assign any channel or bus to an output, I'm presented with only 'stereo 1-2, stereo 3-4'.
Using 8 of my hardware outputs for 4 headphone mixes is lame. Any ideas?

  • ES1 sidechain - mono/stereo?

Ok, this is rather weird, I hope my memory isn't playing up on me...(!)
Way back when Emagic released the ES1 (version 4.5-ish, I think), it was purely a mono synth (as opposed to stereo). They then added sidechaining to Logic, so you could route audio into it. Cool bananas - this was my main interest in the ES1, I didn't really much like it as a synth. But you could only feed in mono audio through the sidechain, and I wanted to do it to stereo stuff. (PC version, by the way...)
Now sometime later (possibly V5?), they upgraded the ES1 with some new stuff, and one of the new features was the ability to route stereo audio through the sidechain. I remember making a funny post about this on the LUG. Whoopee! Finally! I bought it. Ah, stereo bliss!
Now, I've just been trying to send stereo stuff through it like I'm sure I used to do, but it's staying strictly mono. Tracks, busses, whatever, you can send stereo sidechain signals, but it's summed to mono inside the ES1.
Tried again in Logic 6.4 Pro, and I get the same result.
So before I dig out my PC and try it in 5.51, can anybody else route stereo audio through the ES1 via the sidechain and still get the full stereo signal?
Am I going barmy? (as in, looking like or resembling barm
    Weird...

    Hello,
Logic Pro 7.23 - I get mono, stereo signals come out mono and if I hard pan the source so it only plays on one channel my stereo ES1 outputs on both if its channels.
Maybe a bug since a long time
Once again how I set it up: one ES1 stereo on one instrument track. one other instrument on another instrument track -> routed to bus 3; output of bus3 to no output, SideChain of ES1 to bus3, second Osc to ext, Mix to Sub.
I am afraid you need to get your PC going to check
    Report it!
    hope that helps

  • Mono/stereo conflict

    Hello,
I'm using logic pro 7.2.3, I'm trying to import a wave file but when I drag and drop it an error occurs that says: Mono/Stereo conflict. Why is this happening and how can I use this audio file in logic?
    Thanks
    Mike

Firstly, this is the LP8 forum, so specific LP7 questions are best placed in the LP7 forum.
What is your universal track mode preference set to, what format wave file are you dragging, and where are you dropping it?

  • Mono/Stereo EQ?

Does anyone have any tips about how to do mono/stereo EQ in Logic along the lines of Brainworx Mono Stereo EQ? I explored Logic's effects looking for ones that could process or isolate mono/centered material vs stereo/panned material in a single stereo track but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the helpful answers guys, it makes sense, although wouldn't it be better to use melodyne first?
Melodyne needs to be fed a pretty hot and clean signal to get acceptable results, especially with pitch correction or time stretching. The 'cleansing' is done by the de-esser, and the 'hottening up' of the signal is done by the compressor.
My thinking is that if I can pitch correct the vox unadulterated any mixer/producer can use compressors better than me and if I plug one in and overcompress or something before melodyne then I'm stuck with it because melodyne will have recorded the compressed signal.
So what? Adjust the Compressor, and redo the transfer. Or decide no compression is needed, and bypass it. But compression doesn't mean anything is "pumping", it is supposed to be applied moderately, ratio 3 to 1.
"Pitch correct it unadulterated" That is a contradiction. In fact it is much better to first sculpt the whole sound before feeding it to melodyne
Well, then you should do it that way. The only way to tell what works best for you is to simply try it out and listen to the results. Keep in mind that the method must match the material. And for no instrument is the material more varied than vocals. Or, to put it in practice:
Since melodyne is such a versatile tool, shouldn't I perhaps adjust the quieter or louder notes in melodyne to keep a good natural dynamic rather than simply applying a high compress ratio to fix the extremes?
Try it out! It really completely depends on your material and the musical context.
Also, wouldn't it be better to de-ess after melodyne?  If I have to sharpen flat notes I may just be boosting the S sounds again
I never encountered that. And by the way, de-essing manually in Melodyne is my preferred method. I don't use de-essing. Popscreens are great hardware de-essers.

using usb mic with logic output stops

Aggregate devices are setup in the Audio/Midi setup of OSX Utilities, (Not in Logic). It gives you a way of having for than one audio i/o device. Once you have set up your aggregated devices in Audio/Midi, when you start Logic you will need to go into Audio preferences and choose the Aggregate device.

  • Mono/stereo field in iTunes view options

How do I add a mono/stereo field to the view options in iTunes?
I have over 20 years experience working with professional bands but am now deaf in 1 ear so I understand what mono is.
This would help sort a 128 kbs stereo copy of a song that is about half the quality of a 128 kbs mono copy of the same song.

If Apple's iTunes software engineers did not design-in a particular feature or function, you can't add one yourself, unless you are a skilled programmer or hire one to do it for you. Even then, I expect that modifying the code is a violation of the end-user license agreement (EULA).
If I understand your motive, you could rename mono files to distinguish them from others, or perhaps use an existing field - there are quite a few sort fields not typically used - and place an 'M' there to easily sort those tunes.

  • Loops mono-stereo

    Hi,
I was just trying to import a loop in my project. Loop is called "Remix Beatbox Vocal FX". For some reason, when I've imorted the loop and play it, sound only comes from my right speaker. When I look at the waveform, it's also only halve a waveform (only the bottomside is visible). So I tried I'd just change my audio-track to mono-format, but then the loop won't play anymore... How's this possible?
    Thanks!

Click and hold the mono-stereo button to choose whether you hear the left or right channel when in mono. It's in the manual by the way.

  • Making mono, stereo.

Quick question, I recorded some stuff recently in mono. I'm familiar in final cut of duplicating audio after you digitize and then making it a stereo pair so you get left and right audio... whats the quick way to do that in Premiere CS3?

  • Mono/stereo settings inverted

    HI!
When stting up tracks to record, the mono / stereo options are inverted
i.e. when I specify as, the track records as stereo, if I pick stereo, the track records as mono.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!!

I believe you're misunderstanding what stereo and mono are.
Stereo does not mean "coming out of two speakers", it means "two separate signals coming out of two speakers"
If you're using a Mic or a Guitar, for instance (each is a mono device) you must set the track to mono for it to come out of both speakers. Setting the track to stereo will cause sound to come out of only one speaker (because it's expecting two signals and you're providing only one)\

  • IPod nano 5G:  FM Tuner - Mono   Stereo   or   HD ?

    Hi:
What type of FM tuner is in the new Apple 5G iPod nano ?
    Mono , Stereo , or HD ???
    Thanx
    DaleB

Just do a upgrade but not the iPod touch please. I was expecting to be wowed by a 3rd generation iPod Touch. Just like the Second Generation wowed me with a speaker, volume control, hidden blue tooth and new shape. These were a 1G to 2G jump.
Faster processor and increased capacity are standard, expected, par for the course, the natural order of things, obvious, no brainers. What was the wow factor this time? What was the funky new shape? What was the speaker? What was the extra buttons?
Face it - no thought went into the ipod touch and the nano.
Stick with the zune HD, cheaper 16gb than the new ipod touch, hd radio, wifi enabled, OLED screen, friendly interface and most of all a new toy to play with :]

  • NEED HELP!!  outputs mono and stereo

Im new to Logic but not pro audio. I have a Motu 896hd and It has 22 outputs. Logic will not show a selection for individual outputs in mono. Just Stereo Pairs 1-2 3-4 etc to 21- 22. I need to see all the Channels to route properly to outboard gear Please help. Looked in Manual Doesnt say much about output assignments

[..] for individual outputs in mono. Just
    Stereo Pairs 1-2 3-4 etc to 21- 22. I need

see all the Channels to route properly [..]
AFAIK you can't do that for the output, only for the
input (try switching a channel in the environment to
    mono).
But if you're just working with outboard gear, you
might want to have a look at the I/O plugin under
"Logic -> Helper". Using this plugin is more
Logic-like than wasting the input or output tab for
    insert routing.

  • Logic 8 Mono Output

    Hi Everybody!
I'm getting crazy to find out how to get mono output on my tracks.
Basically i need to send mono outputs to my SSL matrix, to be able to use its sum engine.
I don't feel comfortable using the pan pot on the stereo outputs...
Is there a chance that APPLE can solve this issue and bring logic to protools level?
    Tnx!

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to get a Mono output from Logic.
You kinda have to pan the stuff into a stereo output.
    Yay... not.
This is why most of my final mixes I am doing on Pro Tools HD. Easier to set up routing, and no chance of it mistakenly getting changed by a pan pot.

  • About Mono/Stereo working with Logic 9

    Hello guys,
I´m new member here... I hope to share here with you great audio experiences.
Sure... i´m new Logic 9 pro user too. So i have no much idea about some things.
As I could see in other discussions, we have great geniuses of the audio here and that's really nice!!!
    So... i have some questions:
    1) When i´m using MONO channels (with vocals or drum elements) and then send these channels to a STEREO group, with reverb, eq, etc... all the things BECOME stereo or they are given only ´´filling´´ stereo as additional ´´space´´?
1-2) About this same question... shoud i send these elements MONO channels to MONO group?
    2) I love to create my own song textures... and to make my kickdrums, i always use MONO channels with appropriate layers audio, such as a layer with the bass/fat part, another layer with the mid and end with the clicks or high part. So i send them all to a MONO group where i equalize and glue everything with tape, compressor, etc... so... To me it´s very good, but someone can tell me if that´s the way?
Please fell free to give your opinions.
    Thank you very much

I'm using the Duet with 10.5.8 and LP9, everything is smooth.

  • Logic Pro X - Stereo Output Disappearing

I have a problem with the Stereo Output channel in the mixer not showing any activity. It seems to be an intermittent fault.
I have two multi-instruments set up (Stylus RMX and Kontakt 5) plus two folders of audio (Vox and Guitar).  Stylus works fine with activity on record and playback in all channels and the Output,  but Kontakt sometimes doesn't show in the Output channel (even though selecting bounce from that channel does produce a recording).  When recording my guitar, activity shows in the channel strip but nothing shows in the Output channel.
Has anyone else come across this?  I never had this problem in Logic 8 or 9.

    Ah - I have found work-around/solution.
If I click on "read" on the Channel Strip of the Output within the Inspector - I get this issue, but when I click on Read within the channel Strip of Output within the Mixer (and create a channel strip for Output in the Arrange window that way), the channel Strip for Output does not go missing whenever I change something.
