Logic 8 with TDM Hardware, Delay Compensation?

Hi all,
Okay I have a session which has come in on Logic. I'm thinking of finishing it off in Logic rather than transferring it to tools. So have Apple finally added Delay Compensation on the TDM side or are we still back in the dark ages of shifting regions/inserting duplicate plugins etc... ? I haven't used the Logic/TDM combo for a while so if anyone out there has some tips that would be much appreciated.
cheers
M.

Sadly no plugin delay compensation on TDM side. Otherwise Logic TDM working fine (with all the latest versions).

  • Logic 7.01:  UAD-1, delay compensation

First question is this. If I would be using anything besides 7.01 that would fix all my problems regarding plugin delay...right?
Second question if I remain with 7.01 and when using UAD-1 card, If I use 2 UAD plugs on track 1 do I need to apply a UAD-1 sample delay plugin set to two samples for every other track in my song that does not have a UAD plug?
While I am at, does the PDC in 7.01 only work for tracks and not busses?
I know this is the approach for Pro Tools LE, didn't know if it was the same for Logic 7.01
    Thanks

    Hi
Full implacation of PDC is not a Logic feature ! what we have is an antiquated version of PDC, we have had a fix to PDC in 7.1 ( as an after thought to a much requested feature ) the next Logic paid for upgraded is expected to included the full program re-write that is neaded for Full PDC, but in Apples defence Logic 7.1 does go someway to fixing the the problems you are incurring with UAD, at the moment Logic is playing catch up but I'm sure it will roll some eye's with the next release ( maybe we'll get some of Studiovision pro's fully working features )

  • Logic issue with audio and instrm tracks!

    Hi!
Iam old Cubase user And i didnt see THAT on Cubase
When i cut a part of audo region or close the end by draging bottom corner of region,it play anyway on empty space
    Any ideas?

or.. did you mean that after you've cut audio, and you hit play, you still hear something playing even when visually, the timeline bar shows that there should be silence at that point? if so, this could be something to do with plug in delay compensation.. the visual representation of your arrange window is slightly out of sync with what you are hearing. I think I've seen this happen before in logic under certain conditions, but I'm not sure exactly when. it could be something to do with PDC as I mentioned, so look into that.

  • Logic Pro 8 & TDM Error Codes, need help!

I am using Logic Pro 8 & TDM hardware. I am getting 2 error codes, only when I try to use the Audio Suite in the Sample Editor.
"Error code -7401 was returned by the DAE driver."
"2 times TDM error -7102 while trying to disconnect TDM."
What do these mean? I tried searching the net and found nothing useful. Otherwise Logic Pro 8 and TDM has been flawless, and all my hardware works perfectly in Pro Tools HD.
I am using a 96i I/O, and 1 Accel Core card and 2 HD Accel cards (PCIe).
Also the Audio Suite doesn't seem to process the audio as intended or at all. There 2 errors show up when I try to preview the effect, no matter what Audio Suite buffer size I use.
Thank you in advance for any info.

I've been trying to get Logic to work with DAE/TDM in Leopard on a Mac Pro now for months! How did you do it?? Been searching the internet for answers ever since I started, and would highly appreciate your response.
My most obvious problems are: No audio from Aux (EXS, ESB) or instruments. The whole program is "struggling" with awful "framerates" . . just moving the pointer takes forever.
When in Core-audio everything works fine.
I have reinstalled Leopard, Pro Tools and Logic several times, with no luck.
Please tell me how you did it!
    Thx in advance!!

  • Delay Compensation stuff in Logic 7.11

    Hi,
As much as I love and need Logic, this one makes me sick.
If there's DC enabled, you obviously can't do any Midi/VI-Recordings and you can't do audio recordings which should play back as you recorded them.
How can, I almost wrote emagic, Apple release something like this and leave it in this state since 7.1? This is not acceptable for a pro app, I can't wrap around my way of doing things and first record all stuff and then turn on DC and mix ...
Even worse, always go to the preference pane or listen if I hear some flams, to know if I'm allowed to record or not (by checking DC status).
Logic needs, like Nuendo, a setting where all 'delaying' plugs are disabled when a track is in record mode for realtime playing. Nuendo also records in sync even when DC is turned on, this one is really not funny. At least, give as a DC-safe bus (like solo-safe) you can record through, or something ...
Sorry for the rant, bad first post, for sure.
All in all, I really love this stupid program!!
    cheers,
    bernd

The lack of Automatic Delay Compensation in Logic 7 forced me to switch to Protools. There, ADC is brilliant. The days of phase problems are gone and when u hit record in protools it automatically disables ADC unless one sets the prefs to not disable. ADC in Logic is a disaster. The ADC works on some channels with certain audio hardware (not all) and doing all the work arounds every tiime is killing ones workflow. I miss logic at times but I cannot go back to using it till at least the ADC is implemented specially when working with 96 SRates. Also - but this only regards protools hardware users: ADC dont work with protools Hardware in logic 7 - ADC is totally disregarded using the DAE even though apple states that they support DAE - the do support the DAE but only like 20% of the total DAE capabilities.....this IMO is outrageous and this funny business policy cant stand tooo long!!! I am not the only one who switched and I wont be the last....
anyway, the only way to record in logic and "bypass" ADC - is to disable adc and only use plugs that dont produce any delays in the signal flow - it's a hard pill to swollow but hey - it's the only way:-))
    Peace

  • Mac Pro/Intel with Logic 8, HD Accel Hardware, Expansion Chassis - Anyone?

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone out there is running a Mac Pro/Intel with Logic 8 and an HD Accel system with an expansion chassis. Apple does not support running Logic with HD hardware with an expansion chassis. However, we have been running one successfully (sort of) with Logic 8 on a G5. Unfortunately, the chassis we have doesn't provide the bandwidth that we need to get the track counts that we are looking for, so we are considering upgrading to a Mac Pro with either the Magma PE6R4 chassis or the Magma 64 bit 7 slot chassis. Anyone tried either of these configurations?
    Thanks,
    Ken Lewis

    Hi,
I am running Logic Studio 8 on my Mac Pro 4-core 2.66 (specs below) using internal HDs only and it runs like a charm.
No overload message yet and it seems to me that I have to do feed it a lot more than I do right now to even come close to an overload message.
So with a 2.8 8-core you are well in line and should have quite some reserves.
My personal opinion is, if you can afford the money for the Mac Pro, go for it.
    Have Fun

  • Logic 8 and TDM with Expansion Chassis ???

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the new Logic will work with TDM and an expansion chassis ?? The G5 & Mac Pro machines only have 3 pci slots meaning that larger TDM systems require an expansion chassis to hold the digidesign cards. I know from painful experience that Logic 7 DOES NOT WORK with TDM when an expansion chassis is part of the system. Has apple addressed this in the new Logic release ??

yes, it works. We have a system running logic pro 8, PT 7.3.x with a magma expansion chassis fully expanded with accell cards. no problem at all. I am however, having a problem with a newer system, I will post about that on a separate post.

  • Grrrrr Logic Pro won't update & What is up with my Tape Delay!!!!!

Right, i'm finding posting on this Forum intensely annoying already!!!
Anyway, can anyone tell me why when i try and update from Logic Pro 7.1 to 7.1.1 it won't let me do it? .....i download it....unstuff it .....and when i click to launch it's says it doesn't recognizea valid version of Logic Pro....yet updating to 7.1 was no problem.
Also, my Tape Delay will not delay consistently ....as the song position indicator passes a region with a tape delay insert ....there's no delay ...then suddenly it kicks in ...out of time/sync with the rest of the song .....it's driving me up the ******* wall!
no seems to have the same problem .....surely its not processing power although have realised that Apple did not make Logic to run on a normal or dual G4 which i'm currently running

the other thing re your upgrade problem is: what exactly is the error message? is it totally telling you that it cannot find a logic to upgrade, period? or is it saying that it has found a more recent version already installed? if the latter, you can ignore the error message and just go ahead and install.. the error message is bogus.
if not.. then I'm not sure what to suggest. all I know is that the app has to be left as is, and where it is, not even so much as put inside a little folder within the apps folder, which some people do when organising their apps.
I had this with a friend who was freaking out at the updater not working.. turns out he'd renamed the app 'Logic Pro 7.1', as he was accustomed to adding the version number to app icons since back on OS9. changed it back to Logic Pro and it went fine.
another thing to do is tr repairing your permissions.. which I presume you have been doing religiously after every software install like a good UNIX boy?

  • So will 7.2 universal improve Logic for people sticking with G5 hardware?

    Hi,
So will 7.2 universal improve Logic for people sticking with G5 hardware?
    SvK

When you say "improve" I assume you mean either add new features, or bug fixes. Well, the new features have been documented already (do a search in the Manuals section above). But on the question of bug-fixes (which, in the minds of many of this forum's members would be the ultimate "improvement" to Logic) no one can say.
There's nothing posted thusfar about bug fixes in 7.2 on this, their website. There's no way of knowing at this time whether or not Apple will publish a bug-fix document after 7.2 is released. And despite many of this forum members' posting requests for a bug-fix list, sometimes literally pleading for such information, the only responses we've seen to such forum topics are:
    a) silence
    b) locking of the threads
So IMO, it's impossible to answer your question, because ultimately, Apple is not answering the question.
I think the best advice is to wait until Apple officially releases 7.2 and then see if a bug-fix list will be issued.

  • Delay compensation in logic?

In logic 8 or 9, is there any option for delay compensation? Or we don't need to do anything or open any delay compensation and logic is automatic turned on for delay compensation?

Control of PDC is in audio preferences under the "general" tab.

  • Logic 7 with UAD Card!!!

Hey... Is it possible or not to work with thw uad plugins while I'm still recording and workin on a song, is there a way to make it work without latency or do i have to wait until they re-write the program...???

Oh I get it. A wink helps.
    Anyway...
Check your Plug-In Delay Compensation. It's under:
    Logic Pro> Preferences> Audio> General
For tracking I have it set to "Audio tracks and instruments". (For mixing it's on "All").
Remove (bypass) all plugs on your Busses.
Bypass all plugs on your Outputs.
Lower you buffer settings to 128:
    Logic Pro> Preferences> Audio> Drivers> I/O Buffer Size
Are you using more than one set of Outs?
    Give that a try.
Check the UAD users group for info about which slot to use (I don't know, I have 3 slots and 3 cards).

it passes delay to Midi clock and MTC -to midi regions : NO!!! But u can just enter a delay manually - like in logic only more precise....

  • TDM Hardware question/Recommendation

    Hi all,
I have an MBP 15" with 4GB of RAM in it. I also have a focusrite liquidmix, and I use an Apogee Duet as an interface. I am currently facing the quandary that many if not all of you face. It's the ol' TDM crux. A lot of the plug-in's that I'd love to get are PT/TDM only. Would I be correct in my assumption that as a ferinstance, since the Eventide Anthology bundle is PT/TDM only, if I got Digidesign TDM hardware, I'd be good 2 go running it in Logic? I already know about the Magma expansion chassis, and the like, but I'm wondering of someone might be able to make a recommendation as far as card H/W to put in said chassis. All I want to be able to do is run TDM based plug-ins.
    Thanks much,
    Laurence M. Schwarz

Bummer......I didn't even see the part in the Logic TDM guide that you still have to have the PT software on your machine anyway. That just bugs me to no end.
    Thanks for the answer elfedmorris!

  • Delay compensation breaks when sidechaining to a multi-out instrument Aux.

This problem is reproducible on any system and all versions of Logic 8 or 9.
It's a common practice to insert a Logic compressor on a bass track and set the sidechain to a kick drum sent to a bus. So if your drums are coming from a multi-output virtual instrument and the source for the sidechain is NOT the main outs, then automatic delay compensation breaks. Unfortunately, this means you can't sidechain to any additional outputs. Your kick has to be on the main instrument channel outputs, sent to a bus, which the sidechain points to. Otherwise, no go.
Delay compensation is not correctly implemented on Effect plugins loaded as instruments either. Roger Nichols' SPL-izer relies on the same architecture as the above scenario in that its main output is generally muted and its three other stereo outputs are sent to Aux channels (three frequency bands). If any of those are set as objects for sidechaining, the same thing happens as with the kick/bass situation.
The bottom line is that I really hope this is fixed in the next update to Logic. It's been a long wait. There are many situations in which I need more than one sidechain to more than one drum output. Currently that requires a new instance of a drum source.

    Alien Implant wrote:
I'd be interested in what you experience if you try my scenario as I described >it, with the Logic compressor on a bass track with the sidechain pointing at a >bus with an Aux channel (any output other than the instrument mains) of Ultrabeat >loaded as a multi-instrument (12 or 16 outputs or whatever max it allows).
Well, I created the same conditions with UB using three drum pads - Kick, ClosedHH and OpenHH routing them as Auxes from the multichannel UB instance.
The Kick Aux is routed thru Bus 1 feeding the sidechaing of the Bass (ES1) Compressor, while the Closed HH feeds the sidechain of the (ES2) Noise Gate chopping the ES2 strings patch.
I exported a short non-voice over video just to show you that there are no timing side-chain issues ( this is most audible with the Nose Gate strings chopping ). Have a look at the video below.
