Logic, 828mk2 & Digi 96io?

Have been using logic8 happily with a MOTU 828mk2 soundcard, also using live 7 fine with this on a Mac G5.
Now have decided to upgrade to a newer Mac Pro 3.0ghz with logic8 and ableton and also new Protools 8 HD with a 96io
Does anyone know the best way to connect these?
I used the 828mk2 ins and outs to feed a couple of hardware compressors with ins/outs 3/4 feeding out and back in to one hardware compressor and 5/6 also to another compressor so that i can use the i/o utility in Logic to select the hardware (like a desk) on logic or ableton channels (ableton uses the ext effect plug in) and these work really well capturing the compressors on mixdown when doing a live render..
Now that i have the 96io as an addtition will i still need the 828mk2? can the 96io do this with live7 and logic and i plug the compressors straight into the 96io bypassing the 828mk2?
Or do i still need to use the 828mk2 as i was, but connect the 828 to the 96io somehow so i do all my finished mixes in the 96io and PT?
Also i currently have the 828mk2 feeding my active monitors (ADAM A7s) - can the 96io do this also? so would i need an ADAT cable to go from 828 > 96io?
Sorry for the confusion but just want to know the best way to connect these together, as i take it the 96io should be at the end stage as its a better device? I just dont want to fork out for a little mixer also, and stay digital?

In the MOTU Firewire Console app., there's a drop-down menu to select which output will feed the headphones. Select Main output instead of phones.

  • Logic 8/Digi 003. Core audio issues. Any ideas?

I am running a 003 (surface, not rack) with PT7.4 on my iMac having some major issues with it. Last weeks issues (kernal panic from boot) caused me to to a clean install and reinstall all my audio software. Everything now appears to be working except this (major) problem.
I now have Pro Tools working fine but almost all apps using Core Audio will not boot, when it gets to the point of initializing Core Audio, the apps just crash. This occurs in both Logic Pro 8 and Ableton Live 7.0.10. I say almost all because Waveburner still opens although does so in a different manner to other apps (you open the app and then select the device, it's default output is "internal output").
    Here's the crash report from Logic;

We all love to bash Digidesign, I'm usually the first, and I will defend Apple to the end but IMO Apple's lack of focus in pro audio and their slow Logic development is annoying me. Not content with destroying what is left the music business and the general quality of audio (who can say iPod's have been a good thing for the music biz? MP3 ***!!!!), they have slept on a program that, a few years ago, had a real chance of rivaling Pro Tools in being a dominating force. But Apple's consumer focus has let that chance slip and we are all the worse off as a result.
Digidesign hardware like a Digi 003 is obsolete! (Motu828mk3 comes with newest convertes better sound... internal DSP and 32 IN/OUT for about half price of the 003... (you pay for Protools LE??? and UPDATE must be paid too... is not pro software)
The rewire file that you are talking about is DIGIDESIGN REWIRE for Melodyne support...
I use Melodyne without problem in Logic ... (also works in Rewire... but I don't have PT installed)
you cannot use Melodyne in Logic if Pro Tools is installed!!!
is the Digi-Melodyne-rewire the cause of those issue...
this is another prove that DIGI soft is not Logic frendly... it is developed with intentionally bugs focused to appear in the competitors software)
About Apple and Logic... they stay focused to advanced features for high quality conversion...
Every time that a new version of the system is released, Logic works better and many bugs have disappeared. Logic is Rock solid now... very stable...
This result comes from the System...
Logic works with Apple core Audio... Audio Units is great advanced plugin technology.... obviously the most advanced.... the first one that use Side Chian Input plugin features... (VST must be upgraded for that)...
there is no story, no defence or offence... it is simply the truth... Logic is a Rock Solid DAW!!!
(Personally I suggest to don't use Digidesign Hardware with Logic.... except for DAE HD systems that work $$$$$$$ fine)

  • Logic with a digi interface

Hello I just bought a logic studio 8. I have a Question, I was reading that some people use a digi 002 working with logic 8, I wonder if a digi 002 or a digi 003 works sincronized with all the motorized faders, gains, knobs and the little screen?
    somebody use that interfases?
    Paul.

I just got an email this morning from Digidesign. They indicated that their hardware will not interface with Logic. Digi is only designed to interface with Pro Tools.
I have the same problem. I have been using Pro Tools LE with a 002 surface controller. Now I have Logic 8 and have to get a different controller. I am looking at the Mackie Universal Pro or Euphonix MC.
    Good luck.

  • Logic Gold 5.5.1 and Digi 001

After formatting my computer, logic and digi 001 wont communicate in OSX anymore. I have installed both OS 9 and OSX, and in OS 9 it work fine. But when i try to launch Logic (5.5.1) in OSX i get this error message: Error code 28519 was returned buy the core audio driver...
The Core audiodriver is installed in Library/audio/plugins/HAL! But i have no clue about SystemInit and Direct I/O (versions or were to put the files on the computer.
I have also tried with and without the Protools software installed but that did´nt work either.
PLEASE someone, help me. I have tried and tried but nothing seems to work. Before the formatting everything worked fine, but not anymore...
    What´s wrong?

    Hi,
Why exactly did you format your computer?
Did Logic Gold 5.5.1 work on you OSX BEFORE you reformatted?
What changed from before your format to after (any driver versions changed/automatic updates?)
Remember,Digidesign does NOT support Digi001 anymore,so which Audio driver(DAE/CoreAudio) did you use before you reformatted?
    From Digidesign's website Answerbase:
Core Audio error 28519 when trying to use the Digidesign Core Audio driver in a third party application (Logic, Reason, etc.).
This error can have several different causes. Some things to check:
    1. Is another application using the core audio driver, such as the Sound control panel in your System Preferences panel? If so, you'll need to quit that application or switch your Sound control panel back to built in hardware. Keep in mind the Digidesign core audio driver is single client - only one application can be using the hardware at any time.
    2. Is your Digidesign hardware turned on and powered up? You may try turning off and turning back on the hardware and restarting your application.
Also see Answerbase #27816 for other possibilities specific to Emagic Logic:
Getting an error message -28519 in Logic Audio 6.3. when changing to Digidesign hardware for the CoreAudio output.
These errors can be caused by two plugins that are installed when updating Emagic's Logic to version 6.3.1
Removing these two plugins from the plugins folder may solve the issue.
The plugins folder is located in the
    MacHD / Library / ApplicationSupport / Digidesign / Plugins
    Remove
    - ESB TDM OSX
    - ESX 24 TDM OSX
If these plug-ins are installed, when launching Pro Tools, you will get an error message: When attempting to launch you get either: "- 6003 Emagic system bridge error"
or "- 6003 error while initializing TDM host streams." (see Abase # 27414). Remove the plug-ins above to solve this problem.
Without knowing why you reformatted,it is harder to help.
I hope the Digidesign Answerbase messages help you out.
    Cheers,
    Nick

  • Logic 7.1 and MBox

Can someone help me make sense of this set up. I have a G4 1.67 Powerbook /with OS 10.3.9 and I'm trying to use it on the road with an MBox. It works fine with a Motu 828 that I have in the studio, but I can't seem to get it working with the Mbox. I installed the Digi Core Audio driver vs. 6.9 It works if I use it with Protools but when I launch Logic the Digi core audio manager says Not Connected (HW in use). Huh? As soon as I quit Logic. It shows connected. I apparently don't have the right settings in Logic. HEEELLLP.
P.S. - I have Digidesign HW (Mbox) selected in my Audio/Midi setup as default input and default output. Is that wrong?

    David,
Thank you soooo much. After 3 days of tearing my hair out your post made me realize that the Digi Core Audio Manager was not launched before Logic. All this time I thought it was active becasue I'd launch it and see the Mbox. Then I'd Quit and open Logic. Duuuuuhhhhh........ You've made me a VERY HAPPY woman. I'm sure everyone knows the plight of saving up their hard earned dollars only to realize the piece of equipment you've gotten doesn;t work with your set up. LOL..

  • Logic quits after time compression/expansion

Logic Pro 8 quits EVERY TIME after I use a time compression/expansion plug-in in the sample editor. It does not matter if I use Logic's own plug-in or if I use Serato Pitch 'n Time LE. I am currently spending all my time in core audio as opposed to DAE/TDM land. Anyone else have this issue?
    Mark Miller

I used to be hard core Logic only, and then I noticed something (this may seem off topic but I'm getting around to the point). For the first time, probably about 2 or 3 years ago, Digidesign got off their laurels and realized that other software platforms were taking legitimate shots at their "industry standard."
That's when you saw instrument tracks implemented - that's when you saw better (but still far from the quality of Logic) MIDI implementation. . . that's when the Digidesign AIR group was created. . . that's when Digi added the dynamic transport, flexible track resizing, screen sets, included software instruments.
As a whole, Pro Tools still does not give you the abilities out of the box that Logic does. However, whatever gap Logic 8 closed between itself and Pro Tools with audio editing, Digi widened even further than before with the introduction of elastic time. That's when I finally realized that Pro Tools, a great editor, tracking, and mixing machine, finally realized that its throne was threatened and went to defend it. My work used to primarily take place in Logic, however, that has switched. I probably do 60-80% of my work now in PT and still use Logic for mixing and such. For whatever reason I just like it better. . . I"m sure that will change over too. All pro tools has to do is implement a Logic-esque MIDI editor and I'm not sure I'd have any reason to stay with Logic. Digi has really stepped up to the plate in a time where it has looked like Logic has stepped up, and then done nothing to stay up.
All that to say if you want good timestretching, right now PT is just about the only way to go.

  • Logic Time Compression/Expansion vs. WAVES SoundShifter

I'm considering upgrading my WAVES Platinum to the Diamond, largely because of the SoundShifter plug-in. Does anybody have any experience with the WAVES SoundShifter plug-in? Is it significantly better than what is already included in Logic 8?
    Thanks!

  • Logic 7.2  White noise and hiss when record enabled trak using 002r

A stange thing in logic 7.2 that nor apple or digi design can fix. Any one seen this?
The config ( my belif is that all drives and programs are the latest and greatest.)

    Logic 7.2.1
    Protools LE 7.1.1
    Digi core audio 7.1.1
When I record enable a track in logic (using digi core audio) I get a very loud white noise feed back. Muting the track does nothing. I can play out of the digi core audio all day long with other apps as well as logic. the problem is record spicific. Protools works great
I have wiped my computer and installed protools then logic with no luck.

Just to confirm, you have -not- installed the CoreAudio standalone driver -and- the one that installs with ProTools? This can certainly cause problems.

  • TDM Digital Input not working in LP7 after upgrade?

I ran my first session today with LP7. I opened a version of a song I was working on in LP6. I have all of the DAE DTDM and Dig hw settings the same as in LP6. All of the tracks ply perfectly and no problems with plugins. When I went to record the vocals, the track I was using showed input and the waveform drew normally as expected. Of course I didn't listen back and went on to record 4 more passes of the lead coal to comp later. As the singer was leaving, I decided to play back the last take. To my horror; there was nothing on the track except digital noise full to 0db. My assumption was that it was some kind of digital clock sync issue with the 192. Checked HW settings and everything was set properly. Using AES input as clock sync, recording to AES 1-2 inputs just like in LP6. When i went to the screen that sets up the clock synchronization, it was set to digital. I changed it and then changed it back and a dialogue box opened and said that my clock source need to be set to digital. It was already set to digital AES1 1-2 enc. Has something changed since LP6? Thanks everyone for all of the help these past few days. I though this was going to be a simple upgrade...

***, BWF?! Guess I'm falling behind, had to google that stuff!
Yeah, I had the feeling it could be about wav. Guess I've always been hesitant with wav. files on mac's. Have no problems playing them back though....
Now, to ESB distortion. You really shouldn't have this. What PT/Logic config do you use? I'm running 10.3.8/PT6.9cs1/LP7.1, a pretty stable config and my esb distortion is long gone.
But here's a little procedure I had to do and it has been very successful on other rigs I helped out with as well:
    1. Archiving and trashing ALL Prefs (yeah, you've heard it before but bare with me), Logic and Digi. Make sure you don't have any LAP 6 pref's either, there is one under system's preferences as well.
    2. Restart the computer
    3. Start Protools, set the playback engine to match your hardware and workflow
    4. Quit PT
    5. Start Logic-it will ask you if you want to run the setup assistant, say yes.
Now, be meticulous with your settings so it matches PT's playback engine.
    6. When you're finished, open "Audio Hardware and Settings" and check the DAE's settings - it's probably not set to what you chose (bug?). Correct that so that, once again, you are matched with the PT playback engine.
Finished! (Well, apart from importing your KeyCommands from the old pref.)
Since I did this I've been more or less clear of issues, and it serves as an alternative to rebuild my autoload. Kind of...
Sorry if this is obvious, it's just that I know power users rarely go near automated "assistants" and I think there is a point in doing so since LP7.
I think Apple is putting power into such features, and this has surely helped my and a couple of other rigs.
There is ofcourse another reason for esb distortion and that's "dodgy" AU's.
I know that both Stylus RMX and Reaktor are very sensitive in DTDM environments. There is a certain logic to that, since they both are capable of handling huge amounts of files/computation.
    Anyway, best of luck!
    /Erik

  • Latency v. Latency

What's the difference (or relationship) between the I/O buffer size in Logic (in Audio Preferences), and the Buffer Size parameter in the Digidesign CoreAudio manager? Does one override the other? Do they actually refer to the same parameter?
    Thanks for any help!
    Mike

    Thanks for the response.
Right now the settings between Logic and Digi's CoreAudio Manager differ. (Logic == 64, digi == 256). Who wins?

  • Can't sync Digi 002 as an interface for Logic Pro 7

I discovered Logic about a year after I had already purchased a Digi 002, and have been using it as my interface for Logic Express for about 6 months.  No problems.  I upgraded to Logic Pro 7 last month and now get only garbled sound and the following error message. "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi.  Sample rate 88215 recognized.  Check conflict between Logic and External Device."
I am trying to run Logic Pro 7.  I still also use Pro Tools LE version 7.0 which runs fine.  I can play itunes songs, Garage Band, movies, Pro Tools songs, etc., no problem, but not Logic Pro, or Logic Express.
When I switch to Built In Audio, Logic Pro works fine through the tiny built in speaker, but trying to use the Digi 002 as my interface all the sound comes out garbled.
I have been pulling out my hair for weeks.  Any help would be much appreciated.

The digi people also recommended buying the update for 7.3 and then updating to 7.3.cs4.  I am going to give that a try.  What does Pro App Support 4.0 do and where do I find it if you think that might help me?
That is what I'm running, and it works great. Give it a shot. You can do a search on this forum, or on the Apple Support section of the website, and search for that term (Pro Application Support).
Yes I have learned my lesson with auto update.  Live and learn.
Yes. Remember, a DAW machine is NOt a regular computer you can do whatever with. Audio software and hardware are finicky creatures that don't play nice if you're messing with their operating system willy-nilly.
I spoke with the Apple Store people today as well.  They suggest I spend $100 and sign up for one on one support and bring the whole **** set up in to the store and let them work on it. Seeing as how I am using a G5 tower, and we are talking about a digi 002 board, that is going to be alot of fun to lug across the mall.   I am just about that desperate though.  Any thoughts on one on one support in store?
LOL!!! they just want your money, and will most defniintely screw up your system. They'll update wrong, install stuff you don't want, and re-configure your system to THEIR liking. Stay away from the genius Bar. When it comes to Pro audio, they really know little or nothing. As an example, I went to my local Apple store recently and asked for a copy of Logic Pro. the helpful guy there responded "Logic what? we don't have that kind of software here."
    Thanks for the help.  Again.
You're welcome. Hopefully soon you'll have it up and running.
    Cheers

  • Logic 7.1 MIDI problem (Digi 002)

A year ago, I bought a dual G4, a Digi 002, and started recording. After realizing I was using GarageBand more than ProTools, I bought Logic Pro. Of course, the 002 isn't a supported interface, but I could still use it as an input device - I could have my microphones, guitars, etc. pugged into it. I was also able to have my keyboard plugged into the MIDI IN on my 002, and I could use it in Logic. My only use for it is to use the audio instruments, to create strings, etc.
Somewhere in an update, things changed. Now, Logic doesn't seem to recognize any MIDI coming from the 002. I have trashed prefs, messed around with the AudioMidi setup... in the AMSetup, I can see my 002, and I can add in my keyboard, and cable it to the MIDI port of the 002. I get nothing in Logic.
Another change (in case these are related): At the same time, whenever I open a new Logic project, the "output" track (says "output 1-2) has a red X through it. I can manually change that, but it is weird.
What I want to be able to do is play my keyboard and have it make sounds through the audio instrument tracks.
In my transport window, it used to show the note I was playing when I hit my keyboard. Now it says No In, No Out.
    Details:
    OS 10.4.2, CoreAudio 6.9.2, LogicPro 7.1
I lost MIDI BEFORE I went to 10.4 and after I went to CA 6.9 (tried reverting that but it still didn't help), and after I went to QT 7 (reverted but that didn't help either).
    Anyone know what's going on?
I am a real noob when it comes to the environment. I have several logic books, but I still can't grasp it. I have the feeling I could solve this in the environment, but I'm not sure how.

Dirk, recently a whole load of musos like yourself started having problems with their misi setup following a security update from apple. The culprit seems to be update 2005-007. Anyway I spent hours trying to get my Logic Pro 7 to work properly again and after re-installing everything from Logic to the midi and audio drivers for my outboard midi and sound card to running first aid and doing permission repairs etc, I eventualfly went for the drastic step of doing an archive and re-install of my OS X.
How to do it properly is listed here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    Follow the instructions and reboot.
You will then need to run the software updates up to but excluding security 2005-007
You may fing some of your other 3rd party software may need to be re-insatlled after this and possibly some of your drivers for midi. But take it step by step. After the archive and install, run your software update from the apple menu then try to run Logic as normal. If any errors come up concerning midi timing etc, quit and re-intall your midi drivers from the latest update at the manufacturers site. Then try Logic again after rebooting.
    Hope this helps.
By the way, it took me 2!/2 hours to do all theat, so patience is needed!
    best regards
    martin
When Apple finally get round to sorting out what is causing this they may do a patch update. In the meantime this was how I got back up and running.

  • Logic 7.1 + OS 10.4.7 + Digi 002 problem

    Hello!
    I have a problem.
I just updated my OS to 10.4.7 and to Logic Pro 7.1
At the same time I uninstalled Pro Tools LE 6.4 (which I never used, only used the drivers for the Digi002) and installed Core Audio 7 instead.
Now, the Core Audio Manager can find the Digi 002, but logic, logic setup assistant cant find it. I have unplugged it, deleted preferences files and other things, but nothing seems to help.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

Are you sure that you are using CAD 6.9.2 with OS
    10.4.7?
I read on Digidesigns website that 6.9 will not work
    with 10.4
Try reinstalling all of it,but before you do...uninstall all of it...and double-check to make SURE there is nothing left of Digidesign's software anywhere...a pain..but worth it.Also, run your maintenance scripts before the re-install,and then immediately after.
Then...run PROTOOLS first...and set it up correctly.DON'T run Logic first...Then run your AMS (audio-Midi setup) and make sure you have all your harware set up there, and choose under Audio devices to use Digi as the default input and output, but your system's sound can be left as internal.
logic pro should now see the Digi interface. This is due to logic looking at AMS for info as to what audio interfaces are there in the system to begin with.
    I hope this helps you,
    Nick

  • Tiger 10.4.6 + Logic 7.2 + digi 001 no worky...HELP!!

    hi there,
so i received updates last night and installed.
    - tiger 10.4.6
    - logic 7.2
    - g4 dual 1.25 ghz with 1.25 ram
so i've been using my digi 001 as my soundcard, running coreaudio. after installing everything last night, the 001 was not being seen by the version of coreaudio i had, think it was 6.4. so i upgraded that to coreaudio 7.0. still no luck with the 001. read on a thread this morning that coreaudio 7.0 doesn't support the 001. ah, yet another notch in my 'i hate digidesign' belt.
so, in this thread it said coreaudio 6.9.2 worked with the 001 AND tiger. so i trashed coreaudio 7.0 and grabbed 6.9. installed, and when firing it up, it at least recognizes the 001, but says it's in use, though i see nothing else open. any thoughts here?
    another item:
i use a hd24 to track all my live audio and use logic primarily for mixing and virtual instruments. i could get by without the 001, what sound cards would you folks recommend? and they don't even have to have audio in capabilities.
    thanks! hope someone can help!
    andrew

ah, david, you're the post i saw earlier! yay! ok, so i do always fire up coreaudio first. usually it's all systems go, but last night/today, no dice. i just completely shut down and rebooted. only think i've fired up is coreaudio, it says:
    digidesign hw: digi 001
status: not connected (hw in use)
and the hw setup button is not active. i did open up the audio/midi utility and the 001 is there and have it selected as my defaults.
    what do you suggest?
    THANKS!

Yesterday when I was trying to get it to work, I closed the program and restarted the computer several times are making adjustmemnts but it just wasn't working at all. It seems a good night sleep has gievn it time to think things through lol.
