Logic 9 Bounce

Hi all
Recently I have been trying to bounce a track that I have finished and when I listen to the final output wave, it is silent with a few clicks. The settings I am using are;
Wave 16bit 44100 interleaved and no dithering (offline mode)
It only started doing this recently. Anyone any ideas?
Help appreciated
c.

What non-Apple plugins are you using? What happens if you try realtime instead of offline?
What happens if you try a similar bounce with a new project that's almost empty?

  • Logic bounces won't open in Sound Studio

Properly speaking, this is a Sound Studio (2.0.7) problem, but as I've used it for many months (and would like to continue) for minor tweaking of bounced Logic AIFs, I'm hoping someone will have some idea as to what's going on here.
Since I got my G4 iBook back with a new 100GB HD, 7200 rpm, Sound Studio now crashes when trying to open Logic's AIF bounces. The Logic AIFs open fine and play in iTunes, QuickTime, and RealPlayer, no problem, which also rules out problems with my system audio prefs -- doesn't it?
SS will open and play other AIFs that it always has, BUT even while I see its SPL tracking the waveform, I get no audible playback (via iBook internal audio/headphones)!
At a loss for anything else, I've repaired permissions and rebooted, several times. I've chanted, burned incense, fine-tuned my feng shui. No improvement.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

First, make sure your audio file matches the sampling
rate and bit depth that Sound Studio requires.
Haven't found any documentation yet of what they require. Thing is, it all worked fine before. I did trash the two SS .plists and reboot — no help.
If that's not the problem then try opening your .aiff
in QT and exporting it as a new file... see if SS
    will accept that.
Very helpful. Having tried QT's "Save As" and finding only .mov options, I'd overlooked the EXPORT command, which did offer Sound as AIFF. That worked, partly — it yielded an inexplicably overamplified AIFF — significantly distorted, even to my amateur ears. And I still want to get back to the one-step direct route. But this is progress. I'll keep working with this. Thanks much!

  • Logic Bounce Issues

I've just started having a few problems when I try to bounce mixes internally in Logic.
I set my locators, set the start and end points etc etc...Everything is fine. Start the bounce, still everything is fine. The status bar starts scrolling, passes my end point and just keeps going!! Indefinitely! Ive tried bounces in different projects and its the same story.
The escape function doesn't work and the only way to regain control of logic is to force quit.
After I forced quit Logic, I checked the destination folder of my bounces a file is there of the bounce but it is just a .tmp file...
any thoughts or help greatly appreciated...

Wow, glad I read this earlier today. I had the exact thing happen just now when I tried to bounce a 2 bar MIDI loop to an audio region. I thought the UI was going crazy as it kept scrolling over and over through the entire 130 bars. After a while I hit command-period and it stopped, then took forever to normalize because my 2 bar audio loop was over 900MB in size!!
Why oh why does this happen? Is this normal? If so, why have such an "include audio tail" choice in the first place?

  • Pro Tools/Logic bouncing issue URGENT

I have an urgent Logic/Pro Tools question. I've asked several people and searched online but I can't find the problem. For some reason, my bounced Logic files come out as 5 mono tracks in Pro Tools.. but they're bounced as interleaved in Logic. I'm not sure what the issue is.. I have a deadline for this track (Jan 5th) help is  REALLY appreciated. Thanks in advance

Quality shouldn't differ between interleaved and separate right/left mono files.
If you want Logic to work like Protools and be more compatible with PT, go into Preferences/Audio and uncheck "Universal Track Mode". Now Logic will use separate files for left/right.
Most DAWs can import interleaved files because they also use them as the main recording option, ProTools has always stuch with single right/left files.

  • "Burn Cd" feature in Logic bounce window

    Hi,
Has anyone ben able to use the burn to CD feature? For the life of me I cannot get this feature to work. It does burn, tho static and noise just comes thru the CD. If anyone knows anything or tips to get it going, please help.
    Thanks,
    Anthony Mazza

These forums are great but you can also go to Apple support and type something like "logic cd burn" and get these:
    Symptom
When set the Bounce destination to Burn, the resulting CD contains only noise.
This only happens under the following settings in the Bounce dialog window:
You select PCM in addition to Burn.
The file format for PCM is set to Wave.
    Products affected
    Logic Pro 7
    Solution
As a workaround, either change the file format for PCM from Wave to AIFF, or deselect PCM and only use Burn.
    And:
If you burn a CD from the Bounce dialog in Logic Pro or Logic Express 7.1, the resulting CD may contain only white noise, or static, instead of the selected audio. This happens if you have one of the POW-r dither options selected for PCM bounce, but do not actually bounce to a PCM file. To avoid this issue, set the dither to "none" or check both bounce options for PCM and Burn.
This issue is resolved in Logic Pro and Express version 7.1.1 or later, available at Apple Downloads.

  • Logic bounce clipping in FCP

    Hey all,
I was wondering if someone could please explain what's happening with a project I recently finished.
I just completed the score for a local independent film. The Director just called me tonight and told me that the final bounce I gave him is actually clipping when imported into FCP. What's odd is that if he lowers the audio by -6db, there's no more clip...
I have a custom channel strip that I use pretty much for every final bounce (unless I send the track off to be mastered). The last plugin in this chain is the Waves L3. The L3's output is set to 0db and I generally only hit it with about 2-4db of gain reduction. Even when I import this track into Logic with no plugins enabled, it never goes beyond 0db. Does anyone know why this would be happening in FCP - why it seems to clip and constantly hit the red?
    Thanks for any help!

Is this your first time working in video? Video audio is not like audio CDs where people routinely attempt to dance just below 0db. Audio that is too hot in video will interfere with the video signal.
While there are many caveats to this, if you set things up so that the track generally peaks around -12db with the loudest transient elements peaking around -6db, you should be good to go.
Broadcast can have stricter limits and each station will provide you with their protocols. If you are mastering for DVD, things can be looser.

  • Logic bounces unwanted audio when exporting audio to movie

    Hey all,
So as the title says, Logic seems to be bouncing a few tracks that i've now completely deleted from the Logic project. I even removed them from the bin.
Every time I try to export audio to movie these audio tracks come up in the exported .mov. I have no clue why this is happening. Any thoughts?

    Hi
Are these audio tracks that were/are embedded in the movie?
When bouncing to a (new) movie, these audio tracks are automatically included unless you opt out (de-select them).

  • Does Logic bounce to multichannel (surround) wav files?

I have surround and interleaved selected as bounce options, but Logic is still bouncing to multiple mono files. Am I doing something wrong, or is Logic just not able to bounce to a multichannel wav file (like Pro Tools does)?

That's disappointing. Looks like I'll have to dump the monos into protools or find a converter.
I hope apple fixes this in the next version, especially since it looks like STP2 handles multichannel audio files.

  • Wav files created in Logic won't play on I-tunes

I recently recorded some songs in Logic, bounced them to a wav file and tried to open & play it in I-tunes (I have the latest I-tunes)...when I click on the file to open it in i-tunes, the i-tunes main window appears, but nothing plays & the song is not on their. Also when I drag the files to the i-tunes window, nothing happens. Any suggestions?

No, these files are 16bit...I had this same problem 2 days ago, and after re-mixing several times, I finally got one to open in i-tunes, but I've never had this problem before.

you do have to actually define the area to be bounced in the dialogue window that comes up - there are some discrepencies in the way that the program behaves like that,
Apart from the "Include Audio Tail" function, which can leave Logic bouncing for a very, very long time, there are generally, no discrepancies regarding the Bounce Locators:
If Cycle is enabled, the bounce locators will be set to the cycle locators.
If Cycle is off, and regions are selected, the bounce locators will be set to the selection.
If cycle is off, and no regions are selected, the bounce locators will be set from the Project Start to the project end.
It is smart to actually check that the bounce locators are set where you would like them to be.

If you get caught with a bounce that does not stop, Command . (period) should do the trick.

  • How do you change your song made on Logic Express(Iso. file) into MP3 file?

I've been meaning to put a song on a c.d or just to transfer it to other people, and it is required to be an MP3 file. Does anybody know how to change the original file of the song (Iso.) into an MP3 file?

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Ahhh, an easy one even I can handle. This is what is refered to in Logic-speak as a bounce (I would think export would be a better term). In the old days bouncing meant rerecording and premixing several tracks into another to free up more of a limited total number of tracks. How quaint! I remember those days, during the Lincoln administration if I recall correctly. Enough levity. Assuming that your mix is to your liking, go to the file menu and select bounce. You have a couple of choices in the dialog window, select mp3 for the destination choice. Also make sure your start and end postions are appropriate and select a save as title for your mp3 such as RTFM (just kidding). The realtime bounce mode allows you to listen to the mix as it's being exported to mp3 format. Once this is done you can find your new mp3 by selecting music in any finder window, and then logic>bounces. Another way to bounce is easily available from the mixer or arrange window on your output channel strip. There's a little "button" marked Bnce which opens up the bounce dialog box as well. I initially thought it was the Beyonce button but the manual cleared that up. Good luck with your mixdowns!

  • Cant e-mail any bounces  HELP!!

That pretty much says it, I can't email any bounces in any format or size from any email service (Logic Pro 9)... I can send any mp3 from my computer, just not any logic bounces.... please help...

tried bouncing as an mp3, AAC, etc. and none of them work. when i go to the "attachments" tab in the e-mail it sees the file but when i click on it nothing happens although it is there and all of it's info is there and accurate (file size etc) the file isn't big 4.5-5 mb depending on format of the bounce...

  • Video Clip Speech Mux Pain in Logic Pro :(

    Hey there,
ok, since the last entry on Normalization dates back to 2006 (at least the one I found), I would like to throw this one out there.
I have a conference with different volume levels (voices at different distances from the mic) that needs to be muxed to a (post-prod) slide presentation in Final Cut X.
    My questions are:
    - how can I quickly normalize the audio track (all voices) to about the same levels without losing all of my hair?
    - how can I speed up / slow down speech for a slide without affecting pitch?
    - how can I do this in the most effective workflow between Logic Pro and Final Cut X?
    - do I need any other software that can speed this up?
    All help is much appreciated,
    videonoob

Thanks for the swift answer, kc.
The problem is that I don't have a continuous audio track, but need to cut it into pieces using logic. These pieces will then be used for the video presentation, so we know that sync-ing will be a paaain.
"Do your thing in Logic, bounce the results of your work to HD and import the audio into your FCX project."
Believe it, or not: I've been using Logic since 1998 (yeah, Emagic days FTW) and I STILL have to stumble upon a A/V tutorial that is specifically geared towards "doing my thing", aka knowing how to tweak the plugins correctly. I guess that's why Apple just introduced the presets: because of people like me.
    So, to reiterate:
    - demux audio from video from original footage
    - fix audio (normalize, tweak, cut)
    In the meantime:
    - export slide presentation to .mov
    - arrange bits and pieces in Final Cut Pro X
    - sync bits and pieces of audio to it
    - render and pray
Did I forget something? Any plugs that can help make my life less miserable in any of the steps?

  • Bouncing entire song..a quick way to choose "entire song" besides Locators?

When I am bouncing an entire song, is there a quick way, or default option, to choose the entire song? I understand that I can easily set the Locators, but then what's the purpose of having the "end" marker available? I am trying to save myself the step of setting the Locators every time. Thanks!

    Hi,
you need to set Locators (as Cubase requires)...
    But Logic is different...
So after set Locators you must hit on Cycle button in order to activate the left and right locators points... (this is a Logic pro feature)
    There is also another way:
you can Select All tracks/regions in the arrange window...
The resulting bounce will be exactly the same size/time as region selected...
Logic allow you to bounce only a part of the song (NO sets Locators is needed)
Just select one or more regions = the resulting Bounce will be strictly related within the starting/ending points of the regions that you are selected...
As you can see... Logic is different
*you don't need to use Locators!!!*
*Just select the portion of regions that you want bounce!!!*
this is the logical way of Logic pro.
(you can also create an Empty region .... if you select the empty region Logic bounce will be the same as the size of the region selected)
There is also a 3rd way: on the bounce window you can set manually the Locators... if you use this way... this is the Main way...
if you set locators in the bounce window all previous suggestion will be bypassed
This 3rd way is the Main Locators Bounce size window.

  • Apogee ensemble and logic studio

I got a new apple desktop pro quad 2.66 and Logic Studio.
I have been using a Motu 828mk11 and logic 7 pro.
I was considering using the Apogee Ensemble and was wondering if anyone using Studio has any luck with Ensemble and if they think the switch would be worth the investment.
I also Use an API A2D preamp with the digital outs.....any news on how that might work with Ensemble?
anyway, just a note, if anyone cares, the UAD Nevana X2 works really tightly with Logic Studio and its WORTH the purchase price. amazing.

    Respiro wrote:
    saved through it as wavs?
If you use outboard gear for mix and processing i.e you route out your Software Instruments thru some of the Apogee outputs (analog/optical or digital), process them using some external analog or DSP processors and route back the processed sound to the Apogee Inputs ( i.e Logic Mix track ), then the mix may be different, rather than the Logic native Bounce.
If you use Logic bounce, then Apogee is just a monitoring device as was mentioned before. I agree if you have several devices and play same (previously) bounced Logic audio file thru the different devices they may sound different - this the test the audio engineers make in the laboratories.
Personally I own several devices and I prefer to use one for final mix monitoring (which is most "true" not "sweet or pumped"), some for recording, other for internal DSP processing, depends on the situation...
