Logic 9 in 64 bit

Hello.
Can anyone answer me a few questions, the manual and google aren't really helping me much
Is Logic 9 automatically set to 64 bit, even though my Mac boots only on a 32 bit Kernel? i did the get info on the App icon and it only states to use in Rosetta not to go back to 32 bit as described.
Also, i am looking in to potentially getting a new laptop which i believe will have 64 bit capabilities, as all do now? if i was to be making tunes on my 64 bit laptop and wanted to do a mix say on my 32 bit desktop, would it make any difference whatsoever provided i was working on the same sample rate?
Sorry for sounding a bit dumb
Cheers

That's odd. It defaults to 32 bit, but you should be seeing the option in the Get Info window unless you are on a machine that isn't 64 bit or 10.5. And your sig says mac pro and 10.6.2, so your OS is running in 64 bit. What does Logic say in the About Logic Pro window, 32 or 64?
Sessions should transfer between 32 and 64 bit machines without any problems, the only issue would be if a session on 64 bit used more memory than the 32 bit version can handle.

  • Does Logic Express export 24 bit?

    Yes it does. I use it. I think it depends on your audio interface though.

  • Can I run Logic 9 with 32 bit support alongside Logic X on the same Mavericks computer?

    Hello friends,
    I am upgrading from Snow Leopard and Logic 8 to Mavericks and Logic X.  It's my understanding that Logic 8 doesn't play nice with Mavericks, but I heard that the latest version of Logic 9 does.  I never used Logic 9 before, but it is my understanding that you could run Logic 9 in 32-bit mode and it should be compatible with all Logic 8 projects.  Is this true on Mavericks?  I am on the verge of setting up multiple partitions, one for Logic 8 on 10.6 and the other for Logic X on 10.9, but if I could launch logic 9 with 32 bit support on mavericks when I needed access to my 32 bit reliant projects, that would certainly be better!
    Would both versions of Logic work on the same system together in the way that as I hope?  Obviously, I wouldn't need them both open at the same time, but I didn't know if one would work correctly after installing the other, etc.
    Thanks very much!  Upgrading can be a hassle with consideration to legacy projects!   This would just be one step for me; it's a whole other question as to whether or not I could get the fxpansion vst wrapper working in Logic 9 on mavericks (surprisingly, it seemed to work with Logic 8 on mavericks, but the black curtain of Logic 8 almost makes it unusable).
    Thanks very much!

    Thanks everyone!   I was afraid that I was going to have as much trouble as I did migrating from Logic 4 to Logic 7 (yeesh, what a mess that was).
    Blueberry, are you warning about literally running both Logic 8 and Logic X simultaneously?   Because I don't imagine I would do that.  Could their be adverse consequences of merely having both installed?
    It is my hope that I can gracefully migrate away from Logic 8/9 altogether, but the OCD in me needs to have adequate access to legacy projects in a pinch.
    Thanks again!

  • Undocumented problem with logic 9.1 (64-bit) ?

    So this is a strange one that I didn't see in the list of unsupported features to the logic 9.1 (64-bit) update. apparently you option to import audio from Movie is not available when running in 64 bit mode, what's strange is that I could start logic up in 32 bit mode with same project, import the audio from movie and then save it. Then quit and restart in 64 bit mode and now I have the audio from the video !
    Anyone can confirm or deny this?

    Even prior to 9.1 h.264 was not recommended for use with Logic, as it takes a great deal of Logic's resources to convert it on the fly. Glitching and stuttering is to be expected.
    h.264 (or any other codec for that matter) movies should always be converted to DV/DVCPRO codec for best results.
    You can do this in either Quicktime Player pro, or Compressor--as well as many 3rd party apps.
    That's not the problem here. h.264 movies work flawlessly in 32 bit (I think 10.6 may even use hardware acceleration for it, although I'm not sure if I have a video card that takes advantage), with really low CPU use (for comparison, playing back one of these movies in QT player only uses about 14% CPU, which is practically nothing on an 8 core machine). I can do pretty big complex sessions and adding h.264 video has never caused me any problems. I'm talking about regular movie playback, not playing back via firewire.
    Running 64 bit, movies aren't glitching, they don't show up at all. The movie window is completely blank, doesn't even show transport controls. Back to 32 bit, just fine.
    I'll try a movie converted to the other codec, although I'm skeptical that will make a difference. Either way, it's still definitely a bug if certain codecs suddenly stopped working just because the app is running in 64 bit.

  • What is going on ?!?!? I can't start logic pro in 64-bit mode

    I have been struggling with this issue for a while now, but I haven't made any progress. I am unable to start Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode. And when I say that, I mean that if I select the Logic Pro app in Finder, and say "Get Info," there is no "Start in 32-bit mode" option like all of the tutorials say to do. It used to show up, and I was able to start in 64-bit mode just fine, but suddenly, the option is not there, and the app is starting in 32-bit mode.
    My Mac/OSX have been running so well, that I'm not too knowledgeable about where to even start looking for a solution. I am very comfortable with the Terminal, etc, so I can follow directions well, but I don't know where this problem stems from.
    The machine is running in 64-bit mode, ie, if I do uname -a, it does return that the system is running in 64-bit mode. Logic runs just fine outside of not starting in 64-bit mode, but I want/need to be taking advantage of all of the RAM I spent so much money on.
    I'm not sure what info would be needed, but here goes:
    Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008), 8-core 2.8Ghz.
    10GB RAM
    4 SATA HDDs
    NVidia Geforce 8800 GT 512MB RAM
    OS X Mavericks with all current updates
    Logic Pro 9.1.x, again,  with all updates available.
    Steinberg UR22 audio interface (USB)
    Also, I'm not sure if it matters, but I also have Windows 7 installed through Bootcamp, and it is running fine, and recognizes 32-bit/64-bit apps just fine.
    I hope that's enough for someone to be able to tell me where to start looking. I really don't get it. This was happening when I first installed Mavericks. I ended up doing a fresh install from USB stick, and everything was going fine. I don't think that an update has changed things, as the last time I opened Logic, it did open in 64-bit mode. Suddenly though, that option is unavailable.
    Is there a plist entry I can edit that will force it into 64-bit mode?
    What part of the OS is in charge of this type of thing?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Could be corrupted preferences.
    In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
    Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
    Remove the  com.apple.logic.pro.plist  file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.

  • Not able to open Logic 9 in 32 bit mode

    Hello,
    Even if I have checked "open in 32 bit mode" checked in the Logic Pro app, it still opens in 64 bit mode. Why is this happening? I need to run 32 bit mode for certain plug-ins, and to be able to bounce audio to movie. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Joe

    well I am going to assume that the application marked photoshop is the 32-bit application, since the other on is marked 64-bit and I don't see one 32-bit. in any case it still not recognizing pen pressure and i have the newest drivers. The only thing I can think of now is that wacom drivers are interfering with it some how since they don't get along, although I was pretty sure i got rid of all wacom software.
    Sigh, it's starting to look like I have to format my computer

  • Logic not opening 64-bit 48khz audio files.

    I recently tracked drums at a studio thatuses Cakewalk Sonar 6. The audio files are consolidated (into 16 54 minute strips) and on my hard drive now, but Logic will not open them for some reason. I have my Mac and Logic in 64-bit mode. When I try to import the files, it changes the session to a 48khz session. Anybody have this sort of problem before?

    If your files are 24bit / 48khz, (as originally recorded)... all good (you can check in the "Audio Bin" window where this info is displayed). As above, Logic will automatically switch the session to match the file rate, but if it is converting your audio files unintentionally, you need to un-check "Convert audio file rate when importing" (File> Project Settings> Assets> Assets : "Convert audio file rate when importing").
    If your files are still not opening, it could be a Sonar export / compression issue - maybe best to check with the studio you tracked at?

  • Question about updating to Logic 9 and 64-bit

    Hey guys, thanks for reading.
    About 5 years ago I purchased the student discounted version of Logic Studio 8 (does not support upgrades of any kind).  I have used this until now in conjunction with many Eastwest and Spectrasonics audio units.
    I am now considering buying Logic Pro 9 to take advantage of 64-bit technology (which is a new concept for me), which will help my Eastwest and Spectrasonics audio units make full use of my 8GB of ram.  No more crashing or slowing, hooray!
    Here is my question: if I want to use all of the old reverbs, EQs, instruments, and jam packs that came with my Logic Studio 8 five years ago, do I need to purchase Logic Studio 9?  I was hoping I could just buy Logic Pro 9 and that all the old plugins and instruments that came with my Logic Studio 8 will still function.  I use Space Designer and a few select instruments from the Jam Packs quite frequently.
    However, because these plugins and instruments came from Logic Studio 8, five years ago, and I doubt I can upgrade the files in any way because it was the educational version, I'd imagine that they are 32-bit.
    Sorry if that was long and convoluted.  Logic doesn't have a simple support line and I want to make sure I buy the right product!

    If you buy Logic Po 9 from  the App store.. all that extra content is available to download directly from inside the Logic Pro 9 App now (It's a menu option) so you won't lose anything.... and you get all your old versions updated and the  for free!
    The Logic Pro 9 from the App store acts as both an upgrade version from earlier releases such as Logic 8 and as a fresh install without the need for any prior versions instaled.

    Hello,
    I recently upgraded to a Mac Pro, Quad Core 2 x 2.66 gHz. I'm running Snow Leopard and Logic 9.1.1.

  • Logic Pro X - 64-bit Export Audio to movie

    Does any one know if the " Export Audio to Movie " function has been fixed for the new 64-bit only Logic Pro X?
    In Logic Pro 9 you could only do this if you ran the program in 32-bit mode and I am concerened as to whether this has been addressed or not before I upgrade.

    hey over there,
    i have still problems to export an movie, including my audio tracks i made for the drumvideo! here i load up a .png, showing the "logic conservation" while trying to "export audio to movie" ... i tried both: 32bit and 64 bit
    what i did:
    i made a drum video while recording 6 audio tracks in logic, importet the video, made it synchrone to my audio and loops, put a little mix on it and tried to use the function: audio into movie export (chapter 24 in the manuel)
    but here, im missing the "advanced" functions in ther:

  • Is Logic 8 a 64 Bit App?

    Is Logic 8 64 Bit? It doesn't really say this anywhere in the specs. After all this time are we still confiined by the memory limitations of a 32 app when Leopard comes out next month? Still we will not be able to load large numbers of sample library presets. This can't be. Someone tell me I'm wrong.

    No Dongle, whole new interface and Lep 64 bit OS around the corner=new from ground up.
    Surprised they didn't wait for Lep. I guess that's when we'll see FCP (new). Spoke with someone who SAW it and stated "not like iMovie, ut very, very APPLE like"...
    32 float is normally the best way to record audio.....64 will allow for more RAM and a speed bump of about 30-40% (original poster), so lets say we have out MBP or Macbook or Mac Pro, simply adding the new OS, will bring a 40% CPU usage down to 20%. And with Leopard coming out in a few weeks, yes, it has to be 64 bit ready...they wouldn't take 5 years to release if it was simply a re-write and half the price...maybe that will be the PT killer (the price), don't see any mention of PT though whereas the older logic talked about PT compatibility all the time.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mac mini mid 2011 and logic pro 9 in 64-bit?

    Hi,
    I have a mac mini mid 2011 with a 2.7HGz intel core i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM. I have been using Logic Pro 9 in 32-bit mode and tried switching to 64-bit mode. I unchecked the "open in 32-bit mode" in the "get inf" section, but logic still opens in 32-bit mode.
    My question is: Can my computer run Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode???
    Thankyou!

    Hi there jdtay2,
    It looks like your model of Mac Mini does have a 64-bit processor according to the article "How to tell if your Intel-based Mac has a 32-bit or 64-bit processor"
    Processor Name
    32- or 64-bit
    Intel Core Solo
    32 bit
    Intel Core Duo
    32 bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo

    64 bit
    Core i3
    64 bit
    Core i5

    As far as opening Logic Pro in 64-bit mode, you will first want to make sure that you have the most updated version, as 64-bit support was added in the v9.1 update. The article below has more information about Logic Pro and 64-bit mode.

  • Vivado 2015.2: Simulation and synthesis reverse bit order of std_logic_vector in logical operators

    In both simulation and synthesis the logical operators on std_logic_vector bit-reverse the operands in the result, at least in the case where the result of the expression is passed to a function.
    I suspect this issue applies to other operators as well, though I have only tested the problem with the logical operators. I also suspect the issue exists in other situations where a function is not involved.
    This is incompatible with both ModelSim simulation and XST synthesis and it breaks a lot of our code.
    The attached xsim7.vhd example shows the issue. The xsim7.tcl script will run the Vivado simulation. Under Windows, the xsim7.bat will run the whole thing. The xsim7.xpr project file allows synthesis under Vivado, and you can look at the schematic to see the issue in the synthesized netlist.
    The source module also simulates under ModelSim and synthesizes under XST, and these show what I believe to be correct behavior.
    Can someone please verify this error and either file a CR or tell me to file an SR?
    Ian Lewis
    www.mstarlabs.com

    Hello Bharath,
    When I said "what was index 'LOW becomes index 'HIGH" I meant the 'LOW of the source operands and the 'HIGH of the result, independent of the actual index range. I would have no problem with any 'HIGH and 'LOW on the result of the operator as long as the direction matched the left source operand, though personally I would prefer the same 'HIGH and 'LOW as that of the left operand.
    Looking at the IEEE implementation of logical "or" on std_logic_vector from package std_logic_1164: https://standards.ieee.org/downloads/1076/1076.2-1996/std_logic_1164-body.vhdl:
    -- or
    FUNCTION "or" ( l,r : std_logic_vector ) RETURN std_logic_vector IS
    ALIAS lv : std_logic_vector ( 1 TO l'LENGTH ) IS l;
    ALIAS rv : std_logic_vector ( 1 TO r'LENGTH ) IS r;
    VARIABLE result : std_logic_vector ( 1 TO l'LENGTH );
    BEGIN
    IF ( l'LENGTH /= r'LENGTH ) THEN
    ASSERT FALSE
    REPORT "arguments of overloaded 'or' operator are not of the same length"
    SEVERITY FAILURE;
    ELSE
    FOR i IN result'RANGE LOOP
    result(i) := or_table (lv(i), rv(i));
    END LOOP;
    END IF;
    RETURN result;
    END "or";
    the operator does exactly what Vivado seems to be doing: alias the downto source vectors to a to range of 1 to 'LENGTH and then return a vector of 1 to 'LENGTH. This both bit reverses the downto indexes (the alias on the source operands does that) and changes the range to "to" with a 'LOW value of 1.
    This gives us the 'LEFT 1 and 'RIGHT 4 we see.
    So far, I have found no definition from IEEE of what logical operators, such as "or", are supposed to do on std_logic_vector except as defined by this piece of code for "or" and the other operators' associated bodies from the std_logic_1164 package.
    What this code does seems like a horrible decision about how to implement the logical operators on std_logic_vector with respect to range direction, but it is compatible with what Vivado does, and incompatible with what XST does. (I had never investigated this issue before because what ModelSim and XST did made perfect sense to me.)
    That the assignment  (Result := s)  works as expected, makes sense. The assignment of the "to" range s to the "downto" range Result maintains the 'LEFT relationship. That is, Result'LEFT (index 3) receives s'LEFT (index 1). So, the bits are reversed a second time.
    That ISIM does not match what XST does seems like a defect no matter how you look at it. Your simulation can never match your synthesis if you care about the range direction inside a function (and I suspect in other places too). This deserves an SR or CR if you are still doing any work on those two tools. I think you may not be.
    Are you able to find out whether Vivado was changed from XST on purpose with respect to the behavior of logical operators?
    If this is "as designed" then I have to start working on updating our code to live with it. But, if this is something that happened by accident, and you will change Vivado to match XST, then I probably want to wait. Updating our code to live with this behavior is going to be a pretty big job.
    Thank you for your help,
    Ian
