Logic and audio interface issues. help!

Hey guys
I recently bought a small budget recording studio, My first one so bare with the newbie questions and I'm having diffucties with the setup I believe.
I connected my midi keyboard to my computer that had Midi in/out from the keyboard via USB Midi interface to the computer. That was all cool. The computer was seeing it and in Logic was telling me signals were coming into logic.
I then connected my Edirol audio interface ( FA-66 ) 6in/6out. to the computer via Firewire. Midi setup in utlilities sees the device. And that's good right?
I then used stereo jacks to connect the audio interface to my studio monitors. I played a song in itunes music is coming through the speakers, great!
Now off to the problem, finally. The reason I got the audio capture device is so that I can record Vocals and guitars, but the thing is when I connect my Mic and guitar to the device no sound in coming into logic, eventhough I can play the guitar clean through my monitor speakers. Very strange. I see 6 input/output channels in logic so it sees the edirol. So if i set Input 2 in logic and put the guitar in inputjack 2 the signal doesn't get through.
Am I supposed to intertwine the Midi keyboard and audio interface together? If so how is that done? Can anybody help?
Thanks for baring with the newbie!

Don't go beating yourself up... you'll rob the trolls of their only pleasure.
It's like you said: you're new. We were all new once.
Glad you're up and running... let's hear some music.

  • Are USB audio interface issues on iMac Haswell resolved?

    HI,
i just ordered a 27 inch iMac, maxed out with a 1TB SSD.
I noticed the imac doesn't have an audio in jack and figured i'd shop for a good USB Audio Interface.
But then i came across all these USB audio interface issues on the new iMac.
This is incredible to me because iMacs are often used by creative people and lots of musicians.
For me audio is VERY important. I record music and i record sound for animation and video.
Apple thus far seemed to be avoiding the topics and issues at hand.
Are the USB audio issues resolved? What was resolved? What was the problem (Maverick? Fusion Drive)?
Is it wise to choose for a Thunderbolt Interface? Which one?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Especcialy since it seems such a wide spread problem.
    Thanx

doubt it would be a general issue
usb is a universal serial bus it always require a driver for anything
and the driver of one external audio device would act different then the driver from another external audio device
so it would be very unlikely that an external audio card using a cirrus logic audio chip would cause the same issues with the imac as one with a realtek or soundblaster audio chip
not that there could not be issues with all of them but not likely that they would suffer from the same issue

  • Audio interface issues with Maverick

I just got a new IMac and have found that four different audio interfaces won't work with it.  Most of these work with my old IMac.  I've tried the Apoge Duet, Saffire Pro 24, Presonus Audiobox USB and a new Mackie mixer with USB output.  The two of these that have software had lots of crashing issues.  Garage band and Itunes are crashing.  All of them work intermittently, but then fail with digital distortion or even Mac bluescreen (the little spinning rainbow thing).
I imagine this means I just need to return the computer, but wondered if maybe I just picked four audio interfaces that all just happen not to work with the new IMac and new OS 10.9.1

Scott, I have a 2009 Macpro runing cubase 5.0 with a Mackie Onyx firewire audio interface that has run without major flaw for almost 5 years. I upgraded to Cubase 7.5 which required that I upgrade my OS, so I upgraded to Mavericks. I am now experiencing an unlimited number of dropouts, studders, clicks, and pops That make my$25,000+ studio virtually useless. I called Mackie, because my version does not have a driver as it is the older (non 1640i) version. They said that this version runs through Apple's core audio driver and there was really nothing they could do to resolve the issue (probably why the new 1640i has its own independant drivers). While with troubleshooting, the problem could still be a Cubase based problem, the forums I have read have shown problems like this occouring across a wide swath of different DAWS and audio interfaces. I believe the problem to be on apple's end, and specifically in some failure in Mavericks itself. I tried to call Apple about this problem, but apparently because my macpro is out of warranty they wanted to charge me $20 for my phone call (my Mackie is older than my studio computer, and though they couldn't solver my problem, they took the time to field my call free of charge). I believe what is going on is that they are using the free version of Mavericks to BETA test their OS, and will correct the issues as the complaints roll out. I am going to try and Install Mountain Lion on my computer and see if that solves the problem. It's only $20, and that is the cost of the support phonecall anyways. I'll tell you how it works out.
    To the moderators,
I have been loyal to apple for over a decade. I currently own a 2009 Macpro, a 2011 macbook pro 17", a 2013 macbook pro 15", and a plethora of your gadgets. I have spent over $30,000 on apple products, and to charge me $20 for a phonecall for a issue that is most likely internal, and probably has a relatively simple solution is infuriating... Needless to say, the next time I spend $5-$10K on a studio computer, it will most likely not be an apple unless you resolve these issues. Thank you.

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • IPad2 - Midi and Audio interfaces / Camera Kit

iPad2 question I have Midi and Audio interfaces, specifically Edirol UM-880 for Midi and Edirol UA-5 for Audio. If I get an Apple Camera Connection Kit, will they work with my iPad2

    Check out the iRig:

It will connect "any" MIDI device to an iPad/iPhone.
(i don't have this--yet. I'm just using a USB powered keyboard with a powered USB hub with my iPad.)

  • Firewire and audio interface problem, please help

    Hi all
I'm not being lazy, i've spent hours trawling through forums and google trying to find a fix but cant so hope someone here can help.
Basically, I've been using my Macbook for Logic Studio with an audio interface (Motu 8pre). This was connected via firewire 400 to firewire 400 and worked absolutely fine no problems.
I've recently got a Mac Pro. I've installed Logic onto it, my Motu 8pre driver etc etc and noticed that the firewire socket on the Mac Pro is different. I've been on the Motu website and quite clearly they say that a firewire 400 to firewire 800 cable will work fine with modern macs (this can be seen in more detail at bottom right of this web page http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/8pre
I've bought one of these cables and plugged them into my interface and Mac Pro respectively, switched on the device as i have been doing for the past year with my Macbook, but the MacPro just wont seem to recognise it.
How can I get this interface to work with my Mac Pro?
I've tried connecting to different ports on back and front, restarting machine but it just wont work.
Am I missing something simple here?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance
    Adam

Ok its official I AM a muppet.
Went onto motu site again and noticed they released an update driver for snow leopard. Downloaded it and it works fine.
    Fixed.
    Thanks

  • Logic Pro X - How do I record my voice over existing tracks (via a mike and audio interface) without hearing those tracks on the speaker. I have headphones plugged into the interface but it doesn't stop in coming out of the speakers?

I'm new to Logic Pro X and can't work out how to record my voice over existing tracks without them playing over the speaker. I'm using a Sure mike through an audio interface and have headphones plugged into the interface?

Hi Kevin, what kind of audio interface do you have?

  • Yamaha MO8 and Korg Volcas with Logic Pro X- recommendations for mixer and audio interface

I plan to use Logic Pro X to access and configure the patch list for my Yamaha MO8 workstation. The Steinberg software I downloaded previously didn't work and never allowed me to configure the sounds. From what I've heard, I was told to use a cheap mixer or a Audio/MIDI interface (like the Scarlett 2i2 or 4i4). The Yamaha MO8 will be used as a master and has MIDI IN, OUT, and THRU. I also have the Korg Volca synths to use as slaves (they only have the MIDI IN port), and plan to connect them to the MIDI THRU on the keyboard. I already have the Yamaha USB driver installed, and the Mac recognizes the device. I also have the Portmidi app and wonder if that will allow me to see the patch list (with the actual names, not numbers).
What mixer and audio/MIDI interface do you recommend to use the Yamaha MO8 and the Korg Volcas? Just to be clear, I don't want to use software synths, but would like to use the external instruments to get the audio (which I know can be selected through the Environment Panel on Logic Pro X).

Anything with 2 audio inputs and 2 MIDI outs.
-Out HP jack of Volca-1/8 to 1/4 adapter into Audio interface 1 (For any that are stereo use both 1 and 2 and use a Y splitter in addition to 1/8 to 1/4 adapters.
-Midi out from interface to Midi in of volca (Or buy a USB to MIDI interface for about $35)
-When starting up the volcas hold down the "Memory button" the LED will tell you what MIDI channel it is set to, you can change it if you wish)
-Create external MIDI track and set it to the same channel as the Volca (Only if you want to do sequencing in the DAW, if thee Volca sequencer is handling it then not necessary)
-Patch together the Volcas via the "synch out/Synch in" jacks to insure they are synched
-Record them all together or one at a time, depending on how many simultaneous tracks your interface can handle.

  • Does Logic support Audio Interface and MIDI simultaneously over USB?

    Hi -
I'm new to this so please bear with me :-). I have a MacBook running Logic. Also have a MIDI controller hooked up via USB.
I also have a USB Mixer that I'd like to hookup to the Mac's audio output. Currently, I have the MacBook's headphone output going into the mixer. I'd love to get the cleaner sound afforded by the USB connection. Is this possible while keeping the MIDI connection over USB?

Thanks, Fox. You're right - I just tried it out and it worked out very well (although I'm getting I high-pitched noise through my monitor speakers only when Logic is running. The noise stops when I exit out of Logic.)
I couldn't get myself to believe that the Mac/Logic could keep the USB data straight - MIDI on one, and audio on the other, but sure enough, it works just fine. :-)
    Thanks!

  • Do i need an audio interface? HELP!!!

Do i need an audio interface for logic to connect m audio speakers, a novation launchpad, and an akai mpk 25 keyboard?, Do i need an audio interface for logic to connect m audio speakers, a novation launchpad, and an akai mpk 25 keyboard?

Wow. You have in your hands some of the most advanced and powerful music production software on the planet. Surely you would want an audio interface to make it sing rather than limp along. How are you going to control momitor level, headphone level, etc. If you are going to connect a mic, it is essential (unles you are going to opt for a USB mic. There are very few pros who would choose that option). Any audio interface will sound better than the sound card inside the mac, but if you go for something like Native Instruments Komlete 6, it's affordable, user friendly and sounds amazing. There are other good ones, like Focusrite and MOTU, but M audio and the lower range of Presonus are not in the same league and the more advanced users would avoid them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Record Movie from Digital Camcorder and Audio Interface

I need to find an easy way to record from outboard audio and video equipment, keep it in sync and create a movie file like iMovie out of it. I have a Digital Camcorder I would like to use, and I have my mic interface and I would like to record from both of those at the same time, without needing to sync it together later. iMovie will let me do this, however it will only let me record audio from an outboard device, not video (or at least, not iMovie '08); it requires use of the internal camera. Does anyone know if iMovie 09 will do this, or another Apple program that will work? I'm also running Logic Studio so I have access to Logic and Soundtrack Pro.

With HD being the new standard, do you imagine that they might make QT able to acquire HD soon? Seems that since it plays HD, it should be able to acquire HD too. thanks for your help!

  • Hard-drive and audio interface set-up - Advice please

    Hello,
Please offer me some advice if you can. I have the new 13" macbook pro 2.26Ghz with Logic Studio. I am going to get a hard-drive that has both usb and firewire 800 interfaces and need to decide whether to get a usb or firewire audio interface. The crux of my problem is in what configuration to use the devices, which will determine which audio interface I choose. E.g.
    1. Firewire 800 hard-drive to record tracks onto and back-up + usb audio interface; or
    2. Firewire 800 hard-drive as above + firewire 400 audio interface daisy-chained; or
    3. Record onto the internal hard-drive and use a usb audio interface; or
    4. Record onto the internal hard-drive and use a firewire 400 interface.
FYI, the audio interfaces I'm looking at are the E-Mu 0404 USB or Focusrite Saffire LE, both of which have had excellent reviews.
Questions to consider, please, are: Which configuration will offer the best performance and least latency? Is it worth recording onto external hard-drive (7,200) or will the internal drive (5,200) be faster/as fast? Will daisy-chaining cause a significant drop in performance? Do you have any alternative configuration suggestions? Plus any other comments you can think of.
    Thank you in advance
    Jamie

The good thing about #2, if the drive enclosure also has a USB 2.0 interface you have the option of using/trying that configuration as well. I know a few that get away with using USB drives for recording.
Make sure the audio drive is formatted Mac OS Extended, with Journaling OFF.
Don't trust the drive formatting as it's delivered.

  • Movies and Audio Problem - PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Hi,
If I am working on the music for a movie file i sometimes open a new project with no global tracks, so as i can focus on the music, when i then choose to open the movie and see what the music sounds like with the movie all is fine..... until i stop the movie. If the movie is not playing or doesnt have the volume slider raised high (on the movie window), no sound is heard when i press a key on my midi keyboard. This means i can only come up with ideas when the movie is playing. If i close the movie and/or the global tracks, the problem remains the same. I have to close logic an reopen it in order for me to hear any sounds (audio tracks and midi). Any advice or help would be great as this is really frustrating me. Thanks, Ben

I use Logic Plug ins and Korg/Steinberg plug ins. I have a multi instrument set up in my environment for an external Korg Trinity Keyboard. It is no longer connected as it was too difficult to control program changes etc and recording in audio takes too long for me. This many be the problem??? Maybe i could remove the multi and see if this helps. I am thinking of re-connecting the Korg to my computer but am not sure if it will cause more problems. Any advice? Thanks... Ben
