Logic and m-audio lightbridge

Hi
Anybody tried recording 32 tracks simultanously with express and the lightbridge.
Is it possible to open a "raw" logic recording session in protools ???
Hope someone have tried

No it's not possible to open Logic's session in Pro Tools. You have to export an OMF file, converting audio files into split stereo, as far as I know.

  • Installing Logic and the audio interface

I will finish reading all the manuals one day soon… but meanwhile, and because I haven’t found anything on the subject yet, can anyone please tell me if I should I install Logic first and then install the Audio Interface (MOTU 828 Mk3), or should it be the other way around? Or is it of any difference??
(I know with Cubase u must install the Audio interface first – but that’s a totally different scenario)
    Thanks

Install both, in whichever order you prefer, then restart and configure *Audio MIDI Setup*, and/or any dedicated MOTU software (drivers, control panel) and Logic (audio and MIDI preferences/settings).

  • Focusrite Sapphire and Core Audio not working together in Logic 8

    Hello all.
We're having some trouble with our Logic 8 at work.
Today we connected a Bose home speaker system to our Mac Pro via USB.
Once removed and back to our usual output of the Focusrite Sapphire, core audio is malfunctioning within Logic, and the software crashes at the initialising stage.
    To offer details;
    · We normally run our audio through the Focusrite Sapphire
    · Today (the first and last time) we ran the audio through a Bose home system
    · We can run system sound though the Sapphire no problem
    · Core audio works fine in Logic when the Sapphire is disconnected from the Mac
    · The system is an 8 core Mac Pro running Leopard. The software is Logic Studio 8
    · Additional software running is Spectrasonics' Omnisphere and East West's Play
We tried to view the crash report in Console, alas that is crashing upon start up too.
Any help would be most appreciated, we're scratching heads and beards.
I've searched the forum for the past year to see if there has been an identical issue.
    Lou.

Ahh OK, ( I'm presuming you're using the normal Saffire, not the LE or the pro? )
    go here:
    http://www.focusrite.com/support/software/saffire/
Download the latest software and install, also within that file there will a firmware updater, run that too.
    Let me know the results.

  • Logic and audio interface issues. help!

    Hey guys
I recently bought a small budget recording studio, My first one so bare with the newbie questions and I'm having diffucties with the setup I believe.
I connected my midi keyboard to my computer that had Midi in/out from the keyboard via USB Midi interface to the computer. That was all cool. The computer was seeing it and in Logic was telling me signals were coming into logic.
I then connected my Edirol audio interface ( FA-66 ) 6in/6out. to the computer via Firewire. Midi setup in utlilities sees the device. And that's good right?
I then used stereo jacks to connect the audio interface to my studio monitors. I played a song in itunes music is coming through the speakers, great!
Now off to the problem, finally. The reason I got the audio capture device is so that I can record Vocals and guitars, but the thing is when I connect my Mic and guitar to the device no sound in coming into logic, eventhough I can play the guitar clean through my monitor speakers. Very strange. I see 6 input/output channels in logic so it sees the edirol. So if i set Input 2 in logic and put the guitar in inputjack 2 the signal doesn't get through.
Am I supposed to intertwine the Midi keyboard and audio interface together? If so how is that done? Can anybody help?
Thanks for baring with the newbie!

Don't go beating yourself up... you'll rob the trolls of their only pleasure.
It's like you said: you're new. We were all new once.
Glad you're up and running... let's hear some music.

  • Audio recording using Logic and Mbox

    Sirs,
I've to import vinyl using Logic and the Mbox (Digimedia) card. Does anyone have experience in such kind of operation?
Thanks in advance for your help.
titanium 1ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   Logic Platinum 7.1 - Mbox audio card

No MBox, but I just patch my turntable into a phono preamp I bought at Radio Shack about 25 years ago (in order to have RIAA equalization) and the preamp outs into your interface and you can record like normal.

  • Logic and Audio Desk

I have been using Motu traveler with PC for couple of years...just seen the light and got a mac with Logic Studio - it has just dawned on me that Motu Traveler came with Audio Desk software that I ignored coz I was on a PC......now Logic is probably fine but I was wonering whether Audio Desk has any use in my setup?? Is Logic better anyway or thare there certain aspects of Audio Desk that are great and should be used in conjunction with Logic or are there parts of project that could be better run with Audio desk etc.....I have no experience with Audio desk so any experiences would be good........ta

yes I have some time off work now so am going through the David Nahmani and David Dvorin books - definte learn Logic and use it first and foremost.
Just wondering whether there is anything that Audio Desk does a lot better?!?!
Should I do everything in Logic or is Audio Desk good for recrding audio and importing to logic or not worth it and record direct tologic...is audio desk better for mixing....probably not and I should ignore it but just wondering if it has a use or just redundant now that I have Logic Pro 8.

  • Are Logic's instruments and effects Audio Units yet?

I quote from the logic manual: +"Audio Units is the standard Mac OS X format for real time plug-ins. It can be used for audio effects, software instruments, and Generators. The Audio Unit format is incorporated into the operating system, and installed Audio Unit plug-ins can be simultaneously accessed by all applicable programs. Logic Pro supports all Audio Unit format plug-ins."+
If this is the case, it seems odd to me that the "audio effects, software instruments and Generators" that come with Logic are not Audio Units (or weren't in Logic versions < 8).
"Why do I care?" you might ask? Well, mainly because I'm interested in using different Audio Unit hosts -- specifically, I'm playing with "live coding" (see www.toplap.org), and the instruments and effects in Logic would be wonderful to be able to live-code to.
I just scanned through the manual (it's nice that it's posted), but it mainly focuses on the Audio Unit host features of Logic, and doesn't mention the components.
Can anyone answer whether this decision has been changed yet?
    thanks!
    dylan

You're confusing an API with a set of Plug-ins. Yes, Logic's plug-ins are all AU's. They all conform to the AU specs. However, they are exclusive to Logic. To believe that the plug-ins will ever be available outside of Logic is more folly than anything else. It would go the same for any DAW. Logic is no exception to the rule.

  • Why does the letter P show up when i try to record audio into Logic Pro and no audio is audible ?!

Can anyone pleaes help as I have occured this problem today and sent hours trying to fix it and not had any luck !?!?
I always record in audio by press "R" on the channel strip but today for some odd reason the letter "P" shows up and no audio is audiable ?
Can anyone tell me what's going on ............!?!?
"When I try to record in some audio and press "R" it chnages to the letter "P" and no audio is coming through ?!?"

This is because you have Punch on the fly enabled under Options (top menu)>Audio>Punch on the Fly.... signified by the letter P instead of the letter R

  • Want to get a new Macbook and import audio through USB? Look here.

FWIW, as I was reading many of these posts, a lot of folks are suggesting that you NEED firewire for audio interfaces. Here is a link to twenty (USB) audio interfaces and that is just at one site. I myself record hi end audio for film using a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (8 in and 8 outs) along with Logic and Final Cut Pro. Firewire is great, can have less latency, and a lot of users still have gear. I won't get into that debate, it's been beat to death. Just wanted to be accurate to any budding musicians, etc. who might be scared off by all this talk re: Firewire a necessity for pro audio. Latency (a problem 'sometimes' associated with USB devises transferring slower data) is old news. Technology has come a long way since the days of a USB 1.0 MBox. Get a new Macbook, a good audio interface, write a great song and you're in business -- all in style with your new sexy MB. Here's the link: http://www.sweetwater.com/c695--USBAudioInterfaces

I'd still beg to differ, and I would hazard a guess that most people who work in Audio would agree that firewire interfaces are as a general rule of thumb, far superior. Now a reason that I'm not too inclined to recommend M-Audio is because I had an M-Audio USB interface, and it was nothing but trouble, pops clicks, dropouts, high on the CPU, it would reset the USB bus and cause crashes, often forcing me to reboot mid session. Plus the MIDI interface never did work!
I hope they've cleaned up their act since then, and I guess if you can get work done on your interface that they must have done.
I do find it odd though that the company who Apple partnered with to release some audio interfaces that work seamlessly with Garageband and Logic chose firewire, so if you buy a new macbook and want to use the interface that Apple recommends to use with garageband you can't.
Now one of the reasons I have a macbook, is that last year my iBook died, and I needed a new notebook to go with my MOTU interface, I could just about have stretched my budget to a MBP, but seeing as they used the Lucent (Agere) firewire chipset, there was a strong chance that any decent firewire interface wouldn't work with it, and I've heard that the new MBP uses the Lucent chipset, rather than the more dependable TI one, so there's a chance that professional audio may have to skip this whole generation of notebook refreshes, that is until Apple start using a decent chipset again.
And I'm sorry, the argument that Pros would only use the Pro machine seems a little naive (see above reason), sometimes portability is a pre-requisite for a persons needs, the portability that say the old 12" Powerbook had, which many still miss. Plus as far as portability goes many firewire multi channel interfaces are bus powered, something that AFAIK you can't get with USB.
But all audio interface disagreements aside, one thing that USB does not have, and I don't think could have, is DSP, like the SSL Duende, the TC Powercore, the Focusrite Liquidmix. All three which come in a variety of flavours, including the less powerful, but more price friendly variety, perfect for end users who want a bit of class but without paying the earth.
