Logic and MPC2000 tap tempo feature

Does anyone know how to setup logic pro so that I can emulate the tap tempo feature that the mpc has. I have downloaded the mpc groove templates and have become very skilled at using the Exs24 and Motu mach five samplers. Only feature I'm missing before I sell my mpc is the tap tempo button. For the hiphop stuff I create this feature is needed for hats and weird sounds sometimes.

try going to the matrix editor
set the grid to whatever resolution you want.
use pencil tool to draw in the note that you want
copy/duplicate the note so that all the beat subdivisions are filled (all 1/32 or 1/16 or what ever
delete the notes that you don't want.
using logic arpegiator is a good idea as well

  • Syncing Logic and multitrack tape using smpte/mtc

    Hi,
Has anyone managed to sync Logic to multitrack tape using smpte/mtc without major drift ? If you've tried this, let me know your experience.
    Many thanks.

Never had a problem with wow and flutter - but I guess it depends on how good the tape machine is. I use a Studer A827, so it's not been an issue for me. I just use striped tape, usually at 15 ips, to record the basic tracks, and transfer a reference mix to PT and/or Logic, and transfer those files to Logic and carry on with overdubs, and only use the 24 track tapes again when it's time to mix. I'm not doing anything complex like sound to picture, or chasing the tape in the rest of the recording, so there may be issues lurking which I don't encounter.

  • HOW DO I TAP TEMPO IN LOGIC 8?

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO TAP TEMPO IN LOGIC 8?

i agree with synthesian. apple needs to fix this tap tempo issue.
i migrated to logic from nuendo... nuendo has a great tap tempo feature... you tap your mouse button in a pop up window along with the music or without it, and it calculates the tempo in real time.
i don't use midi. and page 652 - unless i'm blind - does not explain how to use the computer keyboard to tap a tempo - or where you are even supposed to tap it.
You don't use MIDI and migrated from Nuendo to Logic?? MIDI is the main reason for using Logic, audio is much easier to manipulate and work with in Nuendo.
I guess it depends on what you're doing, but for traditional recording and editing....

  • How to do Tap Tempo in Logic Pro 7

    anyone know???

Open Key Commands, look under Global Commands and you'll find Tap Tempo. Or, do a search for it by typing Tap Tempo into the Spotlight-like search box in the upper RH corner.
Assign a key or key combination to it (mine's shift-period).
    Ta da!

  • HT201412 I have app - My Picasso - loaded last week, version 1.02, 17 Nov 2010.  When I open and tap Picasa featured photos, it crashes. how do I fix?

When I open and tap PIcasa featured photos on MY Picassa version1.02, 17 Nov 2010, it crashes.  Any suggestions what is wrong?

    Try basic troubleshooting steps,
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Delete the app and download it again. Tap and hold down on the app icon until it wiggles and then tap the X to delete it. Tap the home button to stop the apps from wiggling. Download the app again in the Purchased tab of the app store using the same ID that you bought the app with.

  • Logic Pro - control sequencer tempo externally

Its a drag, that Logic Pro doesn't offer the option to sync to external Midi clock since version 8 anymore. While thousands of live players are switching to otehr applications: What has Logic Pro 8 or 9 to offer today to work around this problem without extra applications or devices?
Grateful for any easy and working answer.

I don't run any audio, just ESX24/ES1 stuff.
That's audio, any way you slice it. If Logic is hosting sound-generating plugins, it's doing audio.
On the flip side, if you were using Logic solely as a sequencer for external MIDI gear, and you shut off CoreAudio in Logic, only then would you truly not be doing audio in Logic. Now, wouldn't it have been nice to have a "MIDI only mode" so that Logic could in fact clock to external MIDI clock soley for the purpose of using it as a sequencer for external MIDI devices? Yup. I can only guess as to why they decided not to implement that.
If the tap works, then external tempo control is also back.
No. Tap only sets Logic's tempo, but it doesn't clock Logic. After you tap in the requisite number of taps, Logic free-runs at the new tempo under its own internal clock. So no, external tempo control is not back. It's just not there at all.
Then only midi-controlled start/stop/rewind would be missing to resemble midi clock functionality.
Even if you could (and you can) get Logic to respond to external tap tempo events (give it 4 up front and let it roll), it's going to re-interpret the tempo each time it gets those four 'taps'. So there's no guarantee that the tempo will be the same each time.
The only way to get this to work is to figure out how you can send MTC from one of your other devices and synchronize Logic that way. Otherwise (I hate to say it, but it's true) you're SOL.

  • Help me please to TAP TEMPO

Not getting anywhere with the "tap tempo" setup.
    Any tips appreciated.

I've struggled with this one as well. First go toLogic Pro>>Preferences>> Key Command and set a key for "tap tempo", then go to File>>Project Settings >> Synchronization then make sure "Auto Enable external Sync" is checked. This so far is (somewhat crypticly) in the manual. Now, for some reason, the tap tampo only seems to work when Logic is not playing or recording. You can tap and start it going, but once it's going you can't change the tempo without stopping again--at least that seems to be the best I can do. (you adjust how logic reponds to tap in Option>>Tempo>>Tempo interpreter) I would call this a flaw in the program. Please someone tell me this isn't true! What I'd like to see is something on the toolbar, like in Mainstage, that I could click on in real time and be done.

  • What's a good usb tap tempo device?

As a guitar player, using MS for delay effects, I need to reset the delay time on the fly as drummers (inevitably) speed up. I find the touch pad on my MBP doesn't always track my taps accurately, so I'm looking for a usb controller to map to tap tempo. Has anyone found a really accurate one?
    Soma

Your method is accurate, but doesn't help in my situation. Using a knob to enter a numeric tempo is a best guess method, that can be refined, or dialed in, as you go. I am listening to live drummers, and need to enter the tempo accurately on the first try, or my delays create havoc. I need a very accurate tapping device.

  • No sound guy seem to know the answer, LOGIC AND VIDEO

so I thought I would repost it here!!
    LOGIC AND VIDEO
I have video playback droupouts, even with just a few tracks Using Blackmagic DeckLink HD Extreme™ video card. Video is QT DV PAL, Sound 48K,... usual (for europe).
Is there some kind of buffer settings or other stuff to set up properly or is it just Logic which is not really good in video post prod?
    Should I use soundtrack then?

Ok... so you have video drop out, not audio...
Why do you suggest using Soundtrack and Logic? And reference a sound-man?
You say the format is DV PAL... Drop-out (video) is usually caused by tape faults, or recording-head faults (un-clean etc). If your definition of video drop-out is the same as mine, I'd be surprised if there is anything you can do about it, as it is most likely a tape fault.

  • For those using Logic and Protools

This is for any of you out there that use both Logic and Protools in your workflow. What are the reason(s) that you might do this? How do (if they do) these programs augment one another in the process of creating music? From initial idea to final mix, where do these programs plug in and why?
    Thanks in advance

I hear that there is no automatic Plug-In Delay Compensation in Pro Tools. You need to set a value manually. According to a training video I saw of Pro Tools, this appears to be true. I also hear that PDC still isn't implemented in the version 8.0 release, though I can't confirm that.
For a guy that's been using Logic for years, I may just be spoiled as far a PDC is concerned, but it seems like for all those missing features in Logic (such as Elastic Time), there are important things we take for granted that aren't available on the PT side. Add the 32-channel (16 stereo!) limit in LE that we rarely think about in Logic.
That said, PDC and channel limits aside, version 8 of PT seems like a pretty compelling upgrade from 7.x. I hope Apple is keeping an eye on things. If there's ever a serious competition between platforms as far as features go, it starts now.
    -droo
    You're right.
but the one thing I do like about not having the computer calculate the delay, is that when I am doing my final mixing, I can calculate it myself. this might be a little geeky for some, but in the end it allows me to control this aspect of the DAW that I cannot do in other DAWs.
I have noticed sometimes in Logic that some things do not get played back at the same absolute timepoint. In other words, i suspect the PDC might be changing upon each playback. This is fine for most music, but when doing either electronica or Jazz (believe it or not) this is not good.
This has only happened to me once or twice, but is something to note. In PT HD, the delay remains constant, so dealing with it is a one time deal. Set your delays, and you're done.

  • Hi need help! 2.2 or 2.4? Logic and maybe some video, I like GLOSSY!

First off, I like the glossy and for video, crucial stuff, I could always get a 30" or whatever MATTE display for that down the road, but right now I can not seem to find any BENCHMARKS on 2.2 vs 2.4 for say LOGIC and how many more plug-ins you would get or not get.
Right now on a Mac Pro (work) and was wondering if anyone knew where I could find such an article that compared the two for audio and or video use and how much of a gain would you get with the extra 200 which is really equal in old school to about 350 more megahertz and the extra 128MB of VIDEO.
If someone could please explain as I plan on ordering one sometime next week.
    Thanks.
P.S. Is it really a desk top replacement? Can it do the job with or without the added 7200 RPM drive? Is the USB or FIREWIRE 800 HD's fast enough to stream say orchestral samples without choking?
    In order of priority:
    a) Rock and Roll (Analog, Vocals, guitar (but plug in), bass, then plug ins for drum machines, still not sure on whether to go LOGIC or LE (I know, its a huge rip off (LE from Digi), but I like their Digi Strike - am hoping that Logic 8 and Groove Agent 3 will solve some of this.
Lastly, how many displays can you drive from a MBP? Can you drive two? Do you think that will be a feature to come, or should I just get a Mac Pro and say the heck with it at home!
    Thanks!

You will likely not find benchmarks for Logic as the HD and other internal components will play a huge roll in the performance you get from the applications and various plug-ins. Plug-ins put different strains on your processor, depending on the level of processing each plug-in requires.
No, the MacBook Pro isn't a desktop replacement when it's being used for audio recording and mixing, especially when you compare it to a Mac Pro. No way will it beat out a maxed out eight-core Mac Pro. You'll get night and day performance differences in these two machines.
It sounds like you'll be working with 4 tracks of stereo .. or possibly 10 mono tracks? If you state specifics about your method of recording and play-back and what audio interface you intend to use, we'll have a better idea of exactly how many tracks and plug-ins you actually intend/need to use simultaneously. Also, which plug-ins are you intending on using per channel? Are you going to utilize sends for global FX or rather, assigning fx to each and every channel separately?
As to the external displays you intend on using, will one not be enough? You can attach up to a 30" cinema display if you buy the 256mb upgrade option (NVidia 8600m GT) using dual display mode to assign separate windows to each display.
As to the difference you'll see by utilizing that upgrade, check this link out: http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/graphics.html
My purchase advice is this if you MUST purchase a MacBook:
    2.4 MacBook Pro
    2GB of RAM
    7200rpm Internal 160GB HD Option
Logic Express 7 (if you haven't used logic, there is a big, not huge learning curve - be warned) It's incredibly powerful.
You said LE is a rip off? Of what? Pro Tools HD - yes, Logic 7? No. These two applications couldn't be more different. Logic is a sequencer/audio recorder and mixer/midi recorder with a fully customizable mixing environment and Pro Tools is the industry standard for audio editing, recording and mixing digital audio. Logic allows you to use stereo tracks and Pro Tools uses mono (split-stereo) tracks like you'll see in every professional recording studio.
Go with Pro Tools LE if you think you'll be using mostly audio recordings versus utilizing midi-styled sequencing of audio units instruments. The MIDI and virtual instrument implementation within Logic is far superior to Pro Tools in my opinion.
If you're looking for a great virtual rock-n-roll drummer plug-in, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by overlooking Quantum Leap Ministry of Rock. This plug-in also features guitar and bass instruments sure to please any rocker. For orchestral samples, try Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra plug-ins.
What's your budget for this recording rig you're planning on putting together? Also, what are you planning on monitoring your output with? ADAM S2.5A studio monitors? Genelec 8050A monitors? Mackie HR824 mk2s?
What are you using for a DAC? The Benchmark DAC-1?
    More details please...

  • My Bad - Logic and FX Sync'ing

Wouldn't you know it. I picked the Tremolo as an example and it has tempo sync'ing. What about chorus, flanger, phaser, Modulation Delay etc. Just seems to be missing either the Beat Sync button or the dual purpose time control like the Tremolo. An oversight??

sending audio through the network is attractive, although your comment is a bit scary.
Yeah, the feature is attractive, but it practice it's never been particularly easy to do this reliably.
I've tried all kinds of solutions, and while I've been able to get them to work, it's never been particularly solid, for all kinds of reasons, especially variable latency.
is there more information about accomplishing this - again - a la a rewire setup...
i'd only be interested in sending a stereo pair from the ppc to a channel or aux in on the intel side...
A simple stereo pair is easy enough - you can use OSX's network audio plugins to send and receive audio across the network. However, you will have the need to accurate timing of the audio, because it needs to "line up" with the host DAW. Give it a try, because it's free and easy, and see what success you have with it.
You can also try FX Teleport and do it that way, which works in a similar manner but should have latency a bit better.
If you have a PPC machine with an inbuilt digital output, then it would be easier to connect that to your current audio interface and transfer your stereo feed digitally...

  • Logic and protoools

HI I am thinking of getting logic pro 8 and was wondering if anyone knows first hand if there are any problems with importing protools files in and out of logic and what I will lose in the transfer if anything?
I plan to record my band at a studio and they use protools, then I am hoping to have that studio give me the protool files so i can load them into logic and mix the album, then maybe when I am done export out of logic back to protools so the studio can put any fine tuning on the mix before we complete it.
I want to make sure I can do all of this before I buy, let me know,
    Thanks
    don

You'll need to make sure that any processing done in the PT session is written to the audio file or just don't have them do any editing. Logic can import the files, you just need to make sure that plugins applied, edits, etc are written to the file itself, so that all the tracks can be lined up when you import them into Logic.
The same will have to apply when you prepare your Logic project for export to PT. You also may want to look at the OMF import/export features, which I haven't used. Check the manual on that.

  • Logical AND in MDX Reporting Services Parameter

Hi, I would like to implement logical AND on a cube parameter. I have seen examples of hard-coded logical AND in MDX.
But I'm not sure how to apply this to a parameter's MDX dataset.
Here is an example of the automatically generated MDX which uses logical OR:
This is the drop down parameter:
WITH MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterCaption] AS [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.MEMBER_CAPTION MEMBER
    [Measures].[ParameterValue] AS
    [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.UNIQUENAME MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterLevel] AS
    [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.LEVEL.ORDINAL
    SELECT {[Measures].[ParameterCaption], [Measures].[ParameterValue],
    [Measures].[ParameterLevel]} ON COLUMNS
    , [Department].[Department].ALLMEMBERS ON ROWS
    FROM [MyCube]
And the demo report dataset is:
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[CompanyTbl Count] } ON COLUMNS,
    NON EMPTY { ([Product Level No].[Product Level No].[Product Level No].ALLMEMBERS ) }
DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM
    ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED) )
    ON COLUMNS FROM [MyCube]) WHERE
    ( IIF( STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED).Count = 1,
    STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED), [Department].[Department].currentmember ) )
    CELL PROPERTIES VALUE,
    BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING,
    FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS

    Hi,
I can see there just one parameter @Department@Department in your script. But if you had two parameters that should return resultset affected by two parameters. You can do it as either select from subselect from subselect.
    Example 1
    SELECT
    {x} ON COLUMNS,
    {ROWS_SET} ON ROWS
    FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param1) ON COLUMNS FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param2) ON COLUMNS FROM
    [CUBE_NAME]
    Or crossjoin between 2 parameters
    SELECT
    {x} ON COLUMNS,
    {ROWS_SET} ON ROWS
    FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param1)*StrToSet(@Param2) ON COLUMNS FROM
    [CUBE_NAME]

what is a  Logical and Physical file path in sap?

    Hi,
Physical file is what you see from the OS level.
Logical file is what ABAP code can call certain functions to read/write.
Transaction FILE would link them together. Typically the logical path ends with "<FILENAME>", and the logical file refers to the logical path.
To extract the physical path from the logical path name
    DATA: lf_mandt TYPE sy-mandt,
            lf_opsys TYPE sy-opsys.
      lf_mandt = sy-mandt.
      lf_opsys = sy-opsys.
To extract the physical path from the logical path name
      CALL FUNCTION 'FILE_GET_NAME'
