Logic and Tiger - Part 2

Hi.
As a second part to my Tiger question, I'd like to ask something else. At the moment, I can't find the Logic installation disc for re-installing Logic 7. Is it OK to move the Logic program to another drive and then once Tiger's installed, move it back?

fellas, you're right if your not sure what your doing re looking for logicpro stuff, but saving across applications, library (from root level) and users will save all information relating to logic that is part of the install. after the clean install you can overwrite applications (or just logic from it), users, and the contents of library (root level - which will overwrite some things but add some additional things that come with tiger). or even just "application support" and "preferences" will do it.
it's not ideal, but it should work.

  • Logic 6 and Tiger Issue

I just upgraded to tiger, from panther.. I'm still using logic pro 6, and after 3 days of erratic behaviour (long long start ups amongst other dialogue boxes), now it wont start up at all.
I also use a motu 828 mkII, and have installed the latest tiger drivers for this product, to no avail.
If anyone wants to know, i really don't think it's compatible with tiger, and although i was going to upgrade anyway as soon as i could, now i have a problem..... do i go back to panther in order to finish my tune? what a waste of time! Shame there wasnt a warning from apple..so i do it for you.

Be aware, there is one bug that I know of with Logic Pro 6.4 and 10.4. If you try to change a song's metronome settings, Logic will crash.
I think that's the only known issue.
The workaround is to create songs in 10.3 with the desired metronome settings and use them as templates in 10.4.

    Hello:
I would trot back into the Apple store and have them fix the problem (or call Applecare with a warranty issue).  There is no sense in you wasting your time trying to troubleshoot things on a new computer.

  • Diff between logical and physical file path

    Hi ,
Could you please explain difference between logical and physical file path's and their importance in ABAP.
    Thanks and regards,
    shyla

    Hi
The function module FILE_GET_NAME convert a logical path into its corresponding physical path.
The advantage of using logical pathes within your applications is obivous:
If you need to change the physical path you just adjust it within transaction FILE yet no changes are required to your application.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/25/ab3a57df3b11d189fc0000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
The file names that you use in ABAP statements for processing files are physical names. This means that they must be syntactically correct filenames for the operating system under which your R/3 System is running. Once you have created a file from an ABAP program with a particular name and path, you can find the same file using the same name and path at operating system level.
Since the naming conventions for files and paths differ from operating system to operating system, ABAP programs are only portable from one operating system to another if you use the tools described below.
To make programs portable, the R/3 System has a concept of logical filenames and paths. These are linked to physical files and paths. The links are created in special tables, which you can maintain according to your own requirements. In an ABAP program, you can then use the function module FILE_GET_NAME to generate a physical filename from a logical one.
Maintaining platform-independent filenames is part of Customizing. For a full description, choose Tools ® Business Engineer ® Customizing, followed by
Implement. projects ® SAP Reference IMG. On the next screen, choose Basis Components System Administration ® Platform-independent File Names.
For a more detailed description of the function module FILE_GET_NAME, enter its name on the initial screen of the Function Builder and choose Goto Documentation. On the next screen, choose Function module doc.
Another way of maintaining platform-independent filenames is to use the Transaction FILE. The following sections provide an overview of the transaction.
To create a logical filename, choose Logical filename definition, client-independent from the Navigation group box in Transaction FILE, then choose New entries. You define logical filenames
You can either define a logical filename and link it to a logical path (as displayed here), or you can enter the full physical filename in the Physical file field. In the latter case, the logical filename is only valid for one operating system. The rules for entering the complete physical filename are the same as for the definition of the physical path for the logical file. To display further information and a list of reserved words, choose Help.
If you link a logical path to a logical file, the logical file is valid for all syntax groups that have been maintained for that logical path. The filename specified under Physical file replaces the reserved word  in the physical paths that are assigned to the logical path. To make the name independent of the operating system, use names that begin with a letter, contain up to 8 letters, and do not contain special characters.
    Save your changes.

  • PB 3400 and 3500 parts

I've got a PB 3500 (original G3) that I'm trying to get up and running. Just a hobby (insert spouse eye rolling here), not my main machine, but I do love it anyway.
Here's what's happened, and what I've done: When I first got it it wouldn't power up - nothing, no chime at all. I could hear power though (a slight hissing through the speakers) when connecting the adapter. I reset by pushing and holding the reset actuator several times. Finally got the green sleep light to come on (steady, no blinking).
After a few more (maybe a dozen) resets I got a chime (YES!) and screen with the flashing floppy and ? It would then power on to the flashing floppy using the keyboard power button.
I inserted an OS 8 (and 7.5, and 9.1) cd figuring I'd wipe the drive and start fresh. Every attempt ended with a dialog box stating this OS will not run on this machine check your manual. These were all genuine Apple generic cd's, not machine specific cd's.
I decided to open it up and check connections (and make sure there was a hard drive). Everything seemed fine until I removed the cage holding the HD (yes there was one). I then noticed that the Power Management Board seemed loose - not really snapped in. I thought I had it figured out.
I snapped the PMB in, took the HD out and (with a another machine) repaired and wiped it clean and then reassembled everything carefully and tried again. But I'm back to where I started. It won't start up.
I've removed the RAM card and tried but no change. I've tried without the keyboard connected. I've tried w/o the PRAM battery connected. I've tried all kinds of combinations of these things. I've tried different power adapters. I've checked and rechecked all connections inside (keyboard, HD, etc.).
The results are the same:The keyboard power button does nothing. After resetting I can get as far as a steady green sleep light but that's all. I haven't heard a chime or seen a flashing floppy in dozens and dozens and dozens of attempts. So I'm stymied. Any one have any ideas?
Also, are PB 3400 and 3500 parts interchangeable (not the logic board obviously)? For example, can I use a 3400 power management board in this 3500? Or is it just the outer things like casing, screen, keyboard, cd module, etc that are useable?
Sorry about the novel-length post, and thanks in advance all.
    PB G4 1.33 Ghz 15 PB 170 8mg OS 7.1   Mac OS X (10.3.4)

Also, are PB 3400 and 3500 parts interchangeable (not the
logic board obviously)? For example, can I use a 3400 power
management board in this 3500? Or is it just the outer
things like casing, screen, keyboard, cd module, etc that
    are useable?
Pretty much all parts are interchangable. If you google for "3400c exploded" (no quotes), the first hit (for me) is an exploded view drawing with parts list. A few of the parts have separate G3 and 3400 designations. Most are things like hard drives which are interchangable anyway.

  • Spinning beach ball when quitting Logic and loading projects

    Hello,
Whenever I load a Logic project I get the spinning beach ball. After a while, the project is loaded and it all works, but it is taken way too long to load the plugins. I'm not even talking about big projects, and I have an SSD, so it should be much faster.
The same happens when I quit Logic. Not when I close the project, but when I actually quit Logic. The "Logic Pro" menu in the top left corner of the menu bar in OS X would light up in dark blue when I press CMD + Q, and it would stay like this for 30 seconds or so. The spinning beach ball would appear again during this time. Then it would finally quit.
I have reinstalled OS X and reinstalled Logic Pro X. But the problem was still there. It sounds like a core audio problem, but the problem occurs no matter what my sound output is set to. It happened when the audio output was set to the built-in speakers of my Mac Pro (yes Mac Pro have that!), when it was set to the speakers of the Cinema Display (LED one) and when it was set to my RME Babyface.
I don't think it's a Driver problem because it happened as well when I reinstalled OS X and Logic, and when I tested it on the Macs/Cinema Displays speakers, without the RME Babyface, basically without having installed any drivers or anything yet. So everything was fresh and untouched.
This is a very weird issue. I'm wondering if someone knows what I could do next.
    My specs:
    Mid 2010 Mac Pro 12-core 2,92 GHz
    32 GB RAM
    27" LED Cinema Display
    OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks
    Logic Pro 10.1.1
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply.
Like I said, this is a complete fresh install – I installed OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 from a USB installer, and re-downloaded Logic Pro X from the App Store. That's all. That means there's no 3rd party plugins, no 3rd party drivers, nothing, just the stock OS X system.
However, I just installed the RME Babyface drivers. But this makes no difference, as the problem was present before as well. I'm just saying that, because it appears in my EtreCheck Report which I will post an the end of this message, so you may be wondering.
I tried to delete the preference files and such before – no change.
Logic started normally (= no message or appeared or anything) while holding down Shift + Control, and also while holding down the Option key. The issue is still there. What would or what should it do if I hold these keys while starting? When I hold only the Control key however, it asked me if I wanted to start Logic without the Core Audio. I clicked to start without it, and then obviously everything worked.
So here's my EtreCheck report. Everything looks normal I'd say?

    Problem System Launch Agents: ℹ️

I believed this was normal because my audio output was set to the external USB audio interface when I ran the test, but I ran it again with the sound output set to the Cinema Display, and this message still appeared. When I click the Information symbol, it says:
These are low-level parts of your operating system, usually provided by Apple, that run in the background while a user is logged in. Any failure that appears here may indicate a problem with your system.
I can't tell if there's a link to my Logic problem, however.
PS: I just remembered that I installed a system update for the LED Cinema Display which I downloaded from the Apple Support page. Maybe it has to do with that. It may have been an old update that was not needed.

  • Troubleshooting Logic and I/O board on A1370 11" MB Air after wine spill

    OK,
My wife spilled about 1/4 cup of wine on the keyboard of her MacBook Air. This is an A1370 (EMC 2471) 11" (Core i5 Mid 2011) model.
I have read the articles in this forum and others on what to do when you spill on one of these computers.
What I would like from this forrum is guidance/help/suggestions/best-guess on determining what I need to replace.
    Here are the details.
Directly after the spill, she tells me that the computer turned itself off, and would not come back on - no lights, no start chime, nothing.
I immediately took the back off the computer and mopped up what I could without completely dissasembling the system because it was late at night.
The next morning, one of the kids tried to start the computer (ya, I know that's bad and don't know why the **** he did it but he did). He "fessed up" later and said that when he pressed the power button the keyboard lights came on and chimed then went off and that was it.
I proceeded to take apart the computer, removing the battery, logic board, I/O board, airport, HD, etc.
I noticed that there was wine stain on the logic board and the I/O board and other areas and cleaned it all up with isopropyl and Q-tips.
I then gave the logic board and I/O board a very thorough wash with a cleaning spray by MG Chemicals called "Safety Wash II". Basically alcahol.
I scrubbed the two boards thoroughly with a soft bristle brush for about an hour, then I soaked the entire board in isoproyl alcohol bath for 2 hours then sprayed and scurbbed again until I felt that I got all the wine off.
I did notice a small amount of "purble" on two of the tiny contacts for the LCD connection on the logic board but could not remove no matter how much scribbing I did. The two contacts were number 3,4 if you are counting from right-to-left when viewing the logic board from the bottom of the PC, with the fan to the right.
After a good dry with a hair dryer and letting it sit a few more hours I put it all back together, crossed my fingers, plugged in AC and pushed the power button -- nothing happened.
I had an orange light on AC adapter so I let it charge over night. The next day the AC light was green and the backlight on the keyboard was lit. Tried starting and still nothing.
I took the back off again and disconnected the battery then plugged in the AC adapter. At that point the fan started spinning and I got the start "chime" but nothing on the LCD.
I disconnected AC and plugged in battery and noticed the same thing.
Now whenever I disconnect AC chord and reconnect it I get the chime with fan starting but nothing more.
Also, the backlight on the keyboard stays on all the time and the fan runs all the time if the batter or the AC is connected.
So, I am wondering what I need to replace?
    logic board?
    I/O board?
    keyboard?
    all of the above?
    Would appreciate guidance.

Zane is right, ....I used to repair laptops for years as well,.....diagnosing such things is FUTILE.
Lucky you there are are almost no parts IN the macbook Air. Its IO and Logic and thats really almost it.
Contact Apple for in shop full diagnosis and parts replacement,......youre not going to "diagnosis" nor "fix" it after a spill (without parts replacement) by any means.
Even if you had a BEST CASE spill.....corrosion and failure would ensue on average 7 to 20 days.......then kaput.
Spills turn the best computer repair person into what looks like (to the customer) dufus......WHY? ......because its a  "spin the wheel and GUESS where ALL the liquid went"
replace A......works ok for a week.....whoops, ..........oh yeah, theres a couple drops under under a solder connection on part B........replace that....

  • FINAL CUT PRO HD 4.5 AND TIGER 10.4.3

Can any of you smart people tell me if I can use Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 with Tiger 10.4.3. Unfortunately I installed Tiger before installing Final Cut 4.5. Yes, it sounds crazy, but it is a long story. I can't afford FC 5, so it has to be 4.5 for now. I heard there was only one compatibility issue with 4.5 and Tiger, something to do with Desktop Previews or something and a quick patch/fix was available for that. Can anybody help me. Thank you!!

  • Logic and Audio Desk

I have been using Motu traveler with PC for couple of years...just seen the light and got a mac with Logic Studio - it has just dawned on me that Motu Traveler came with Audio Desk software that I ignored coz I was on a PC......now Logic is probably fine but I was wonering whether Audio Desk has any use in my setup?? Is Logic better anyway or thare there certain aspects of Audio Desk that are great and should be used in conjunction with Logic or are there parts of project that could be better run with Audio desk etc.....I have no experience with Audio desk so any experiences would be good........ta

yes I have some time off work now so am going through the David Nahmani and David Dvorin books - definte learn Logic and use it first and foremost.
Just wondering whether there is anything that Audio Desk does a lot better?!?!
Should I do everything in Logic or is Audio Desk good for recrding audio and importing to logic or not worth it and record direct tologic...is audio desk better for mixing....probably not and I should ignore it but just wondering if it has a use or just redundant now that I have Logic Pro 8.

  • Wallstreet and Tiger (a working setup)

For some reason my first lengthy post about the upgrade of my Wallstreet was removed so I will post it in (brief) parts since I am not sure where my mistake was supposed to be...
Many thanks to those ones among you who (unconsciously) provided me with help for such update. "jpl" and "Tinkerman" are the only names I can mention by heart but they are not alone.
Start configuration: PowerBook G3 Series Wallstreet Revision II, 233MHz, 512kB cache, 2GB, 192MB
Upgraded disk to 80GB and CPU to G4 (no brand names in case those were the culprit).
Partitioned the disk in three: 7.45GB for Mac OS X, 5GB for OS 9.2.2 and the rest for documents.
Initially it was running with Jaguar in the first partition, then I decided to move forward to Tiger.
Removed the disk from the Wallstreet and inserted in a FireWire enclosure.
Connected to another more recent PowerBook with Tiger, inserted the Tiger DVD and installed the system on the 7.45GB partition.
Remounted in the Wallstreet and booted in OS 9.2.2 (default choice when all power is removed).
Installed XPostfacto 4 and chosen the following option: everything unselected apart from "auto-boot?" and "Use old NDRVs".
    Restarted... in Tiger!
MANY more options are possible and were tested but these appear to be (so far) perfectly working.
If this goes through, I will tell you about the rest and the details.
    Regards,
    Giulio

Sorry for the late reply. Great, I am glad that this time the message went through; I am still wondering why the first one was removed.
More info about my bulky update. Actually the complete list of the updates should be the following: 500MHz G4 CPU with 1MB cache, AC/sound card (on its way; I was tired of keeping soldering), left hinge, PRAM battery, DVD-ROM (in search for a PCMCIA decoder card), RAM up to 512MB, new battery, PCMCIA Wi-Fi card at 54Mbps, PCMCIA USB 2.0 card.
Definitely not a bad final setup for a 10 years old machine. Money-wise I suppose I went close as I would have got a Pismo in very good conditions (but without at least a new battery and a G4 CPU).
Among the possible factors affecting the installation of Tiger on Wallstreet, I read that somebody included the type and amount of RAM so I kept 192MB throughout the whole installation process, in case this may help.
The system appears surprisingly snappy (the G4 as well as the RAM playing a good role here, I suppose) and it has become, or better returned to be, a working machine.
And now the "issues" that show up with the original CPU as well as with the G4 one:
    - the Debug menu in Safari was missing: after some day of surprise and confusion, I found this Terminal command that calls it back on duty: "defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu -bool YES"
    - System Profiler can not distinguish the two RAM pieces and just sees the total amount: any explanation or solution?
    - the Brightness slider in the System Preferences > Displays is missing: of course it can be solved through third party applications still... anybody knows how to make it appear?
    - ADB mouse: if not connected from boot or if the PowerBook went on sleep, it becomes so slow to be unusable (apparently, according to Apple, it is normal for ADB devices but until Jaguar I always plugged it and unplugged it without any problem); anyway now an optical USB mouse is much better
    - the "About this Mac" window does not show the serial number when clicking on the OS X version: any explanation or solution?
    - coconutIdentityCard and coconutBattery give meaningless values: any explanation or solution?
    - GoogleEarth (4.2.0205.5730) was not working and the Earth appeared as a white globe; then I saw that, enabling "Preferences > 3d View > Graphics mode > Use safe mode", it works although it is not blazing fast, of course
    - Login window keyboard layout: this is somehow annoying since, whenever the login password is required (i.e. not the authentication window for, say, software install), the keyboard layout is not the system one (unless in a user change when the previous user had the Italian keyboard, in my case) but supposedly US International or alike thus password entering may become a challenge according to the characters involved; again: any explanation or solution?
    - battery remaining time is/was missing (apparently this is also an issue with Pismo and Tiger): the percentage of charge is calculated but the time estimate remains always on "calculating..."; I discovered that there is a trick of substituting the "/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle" with a Panther or Jaguar version, repair permissions and reboot, still I am experiencing not reproducible misbehaviors with the battery management (including not recognizing or not charging the battery...) and I hope, but I am not sure, that the yet-to-arrive AC/sound card may solve them unless I got a defective battery: any better idea on how kicking it to work properly?
    - I tried also Gimp and NeoOffice: roughly 30 seconds and one minute respectively to start but rather usable afterward
    - some heavy graphic functions of the system are simplified, such as the "rotating cube" for the user change becoming a blue screen or simply the lack of the "stone in the water" effect in Dashboard; at the same time, Exposé is perfectly working as well as window effects
    - Wi-Fi and USB 2.0 work perfectly
Well, that should be all. I would really appreciate additional comments... as well as explanations or solutions for the issues.
    Regards,
    Giulio

  • MacPro  (Jan 2008) Leopard 10.5.2 and Tiger/Mbox2

I have ProTools LE 7.1 and an MBox2 which I used to use on a Powermac G5.
I now have a MacPro. I have just bought Logic Studio. But it will not work with the MBox 2. It is widely known that PTLE is not yet compatible with Leopard 10.5.2.
I am therefore thinking of partitioning a harddrive and using Logic Studio with Toger.
    But here is my question:
Will a universal version of Tiger work on a MacPro (Harpertown, Jan 2008) that came already pre-installed with Leopard 10.5.2?
maybe there is some weird firmware incompatibility with these recent MacPros and Tiger?

Has digi said when they're going to get LE compatible? It has been half a year since the new OS shipped, what is taking them so long?

  • Logic And VS-2480cd

    Hi Guys
A friend of mine is using a Roland VS-2480 CD to recored all his audio ,he really likes it. However he wants to start using EZ Drummer for all his drum parts. He asked me the best way to make this happen. He wants to keep all the drum parts separated and record them onto his VS2480.
THe only way I know would be to buy Logic/Logic express and EZdrummer program his drums mute each part of the kit and recored them as audio.
    Any other thoughts on this.
    Thanx in advance
    John

Correct. You cannot run any third-party plug-ins with the VS 2480.
You will have to synchronize the VS2480 with your sequencer via MIDI Time Code or MIDI-Clock. Then record the audio from your sequencer into your VS 2480.
You may also bounce the drum tracks within logic and import the audio files into your VS 2480. Logic Express would be a good choice.

  • Logic and MicroKorg Vocoder

I'm about to purchase the MicroKorg Synth. My question is what will I need to hook everything up with logic. Right now I just use an USB based Edirol Controller w/ Logic and everything is software based for the most part. However with the microKorg what will I need to get the Synth working along with it's built in Vocorder?
I realize I will most likely need to get a midi-to-USB adapter to incorporate the MicroKorg into Logic for the synth but what about the Vocorder. How will I get the Vocorder to translate into audio in logic? Will I need some type of Audio-to-USB adapter as well or will everything be handle via midi?
If I do need an Audio-to-USB adapter does anyone have any recommends on a basic unit that would do the job, works well with logic and is relatively inexpensive?
    Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure I'm following you on the output into the back of the computer. I don't have any audio interface cards only the Internal Audio that comes with the mac. I do see on the back of my mac two jacks which look like they could be line-in inputs. But not sure as I have never used them before. If I do understand you basically you are saying take the 1/4" output and line it into the Mac w/ a smaller 1/8" headphone type jack. Is this correct?
Like I said I've never recorded audio before w/ logic as I use mostly midi and samples as my main interaction w/ Logic.
