Logic behind negative 'Fade Out Linear Value'?
Hi,
our team is designing an ipad app. We did some testing on audio fades in Audition and found a 'Fade Out Linear Value' of -15 (over 2000 ms) is the perfect setting.
However, we now have to pass on this information to a development company in a design document. I tried to find out what the logic is behind this setting so it can be mathematically explained and reproduced in iOS, but I cannot find it in the documentation.
So does anybody know the logic behind this setting, or does anybody have an idea on how to pass on this information to an external development company in a design document?
Greetings,
Pieter-Jan
I don't think that any of us will have the faintest idea, quite frankly, although I'll check and see if there's any obvious logic to it. IIRC, last time I checked this I couldn't see any direct correlation to anything else at all.
The only way that I can think of detailing this to somebody else would be to record a constant amplitude sine wave in audition, apply what you think is your ideal fade, and then measure the amplitude of the sine wave at fixed intervals along it. Make a note of the dB figures and the times, and send that to them.

hi all.When pressed play and make some changes in loop (eg fade in fade out) are very slow to implement, and also the loops from the library are very slow to play, corrects the somewhat self so is the Logic??
Hey there Logic Pro21,
It sounds like you are seeing some odd performance issues with Logic Pro X. I recommend these troubleshooting steps specifically from the following article to help troubleshoot what is happening:
Logic Pro X: Troubleshooting basics
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5859
Verify that your computer meets the system requirements for Logic Pro X
See Logic Pro X Technical Specifications.
Test using the computer's built-in audio hardware
If you use external audio hardware, try setting Logic Pro X to use the built-in audio hardware on your computer. Choose Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio from the main menu and click the Devices tab. Choose the built in audio hardware from the Input Device and Output Device pop-up menus. If the issue is resolved using built-in audio, refer to the manufacturer of your audio interface.
Start Logic with a different project template
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Logic. If you use a template, damage to the template can cause unexpected results with any project subsequently created from it. To create a completely fresh project choose File > New from Template and select Empty Project in the template selector window. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project.
Sometimes, issues with the data in a project can be repaired. Open an affected project and open the Project Information window with the Project Information key command. Click Reorganize Memory to attempt to repair the project. When you reorganize memory, the current project is checked for any signs of damage, structural problems, and unused blocks. If any unused blocks are found, you will be able to remove these, and repair the project. Project memory is also reorganized automatically after saving or opening a project.
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Restart the computer.
Isolate an issue by using another user account
For more information see Isolating an issue by using another user account.
Reinstall Logic Pro X
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Logic Pro X. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application, then reinstall Logic Pro X. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Logic Pro X. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Logic Pro X.
In the Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
Locate the Logic Pro X application and drag it to the trash.
Open the Mac App Store
Click the Purchases button in the Mac App Store toolbar.
Sign in to the Mac App Store using the Apple ID you first used to purchase Logic Pro X.
Look for Logic Pro X in the list of purchased applications in the App Store. If you don't see Logic Pro X in the list, make sure it's not hidden. See Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases for more information.
Click Install to download and install Logic Pro X.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

Hi Everybody,
I want to know the logic behind
1)MC46 i.e. Report for Non moving & slow moving stock
2)MC50- Report for Dead stock
My client wants to know the logic behind these reports.
What i need to explain them exactly?
Please guide.The logic behind these reports is to identify dead and slow moving stock (and it's monetary value) in order to make a stocking decision such as to promote the material (reduce price), scrap the material (full or partial stock quantities). These reports may also help in future demand/forecast planning.
Dead and slow moving stock has lots of negative impacts on an organisation such as increased inventory levels (monet tied up in stock), reduced stock turn and wasted physical warehouse space (particularly if dead/slow moving stock is preventing a fast moving item from being in the warehouse/plant).

Creating a Template with Fade In / Fade Out
Hi Guys,
I need to make a number of audio samples for promotion - I have a lot of audio files so I need to make a template which is 3 minutes long and has a 10 second fade in, fade out either side. How would I go about making that? I'm new to Logic so sorry if it's a dumb question.
Cheers.
MHi Matt,
I don't think it is a dumb question, you provided all the info needed to help you out. It is a newb question though (but they are not by definition dumb). here's what you need to do:
Open an empty project, create one stereo audio track. Hit 'A'. The track now goes to automation mode. Click in the track, it will create 'nodes' that you can drag at will. You make 1 node at the start (bar 1) of value -∞ dB, create a second node of 0.0 (or -6.0) dB at 10 seconds and at 2'50", and create node 4 at 3'00" of value -∞db again.
From the file menu, now select "Save as Template...", enter a name, done!
regards, Erik. -
Could you please help me understand the logic behind certain things in OSX?
Ok, so I try to be an open-minded guy, and I bear no particular allegiance to either OS. I own a Sony TZ and a Mac mini, and my wife has a MacBook Pro. I use both Oses.
There are certain things I have trouble understanding in th Mac OS, so what I'd really like to understand the logic behind certain design decisions in the OS, and why these might be better ways of accomplishing things. I know how to get around all of the things I mention, so I'm not looking for instructions; rather I'm looking for well-thought out explanations for why these features are the way they are.
*1. Programs don't quit when you close the window.*
- This totally puzzles me. Why design it so that program windows are independent are from the running program itself? There must be a reason, cold someone explain how this is more efficient? To me, it's simpler to click an X on the window you are working on to completely shut down a program, rather than to either mouse through menus to select quit, or be obligated to using Command Q keyboard shortcut.
*2. Menu bars are on the desktop.*
- Related to the first point, why make the main thing framing your desktop be something which is always changing depending on the program? Why have file menus outside the main window of the program. Having the menu bar on the desktop then necessitates an additional area, the dock, which has to be used as a launch bar and to tell you what programs are currently running. That obligates you to having 3 different areas of screen: 1 for program menus, 1 for running programs, and the program window itself. This seems very inefficient to me. Not to mention all the messy-looking floating palettes all over the place, again because everything is separated and not nicely contained in a single program window.
- Really, having a changing menu bar that frames the desktop isn't even consistent wth the whole desktop metaphor, which is that you place things on a desktop, like programs, files, etc. Are you changing the whole desk everytime you load a new program, yet the wallpaper stays the same? Doesn't seem to be logically consistent to me.
*3. No delete key.*
- This one really gets me. Why make such a commonly used key be a function key (Fn + Backspace)? Why make the user press a secondary key for a major function?
*4. No Cut command.*
- I read something about how Cut doesn't actually make sense when moving files around, but I obviously didn't fully understand it. Why make the user command drag, when you can just do Ctrl X??.
*5. Launching Apps from the Finder.*
- This seems weird to me, that you find and launch applications from the same thing you use to view files. Program icons in the finder are placeholders for the entire program, not files, yet they are found in the file viewer. Again, to me this seems logically mixed. I really dislike scrolling through Finder to look for apps. I know there is Spotlight and the dock (used as a quicklauncher), but these are really just workarounds for a setup which seems inherently illogical. To me at least, a menu of applications make more sense, ie, the start menu.
Anyway, those are all I can think of now, although there are other things aout OSX that don't make sense to me.
Thanks in advance! If I can understand Apple's reasoning and it is convincingly better, that will go a long way towards making me more comfortable with this OS.1. Programs don't quit when you close the window.
That's really more a matter of what you're used to. It comes down to a programming decision as to what Apple and Microsoft considered to make sense. MS thinks that if there are no open windows, you're done using the app. Apple thinks you aren't necessarily done yet, as others have mentioned. I certainly wouldn't want Photoshop to quit every time I closed the last open image I was working on. Would be nice though if Safari would quit when I close the last open browser window. It's quick to relaunch if you really weren't done with it, so wouldn't be much of a bother to have it shut down with the last window.
2. Menu bars are on the desktop.
Makes way more sense the Microsoft's approach of repeating the same file menu on every open document in a program. How many places do you need to see File, Options and other common menu headings?
2. Menu bars are on the desktop.
Related to number two. The forward app is the only one you can directly work in, so why not have the menu bar change to reflect the choices for that application? When you go back to the previous app you were in, the menu bar changes back. So what loss of functionality is there? It comes back to not having menu bars on every single open window. There's no need or purpose for it.
3. No delete key.
Backspace does the same thing.
4. No Cut command.
Command+X, not Ctrl+X. This is Mac, not Windows. There's also very little need to ever do this from the keyboard. If you're moving files that are on the same drive/partition, then just drag and drop from the target folder window to the source. It's automatically a move. If going from one physical drive or partition to another, it's automatically a copy. Press and hold the Command key during the drag to make it a move.
Besides, you don't really think Windows cuts the entire folder or file contents into RAM, do you? If your computer has 4 GB of RAM, and you cut 12 GB of data, it of course can't possibly fit in the clipboard. All Windows does when you do a cut is visually remove the files and folders from the screen. If the items are going to a location on the same drive/partition, it does the same thing as if you did a drag and drop move. The file table is simply updated to reflect the new file or folder locations. If it's to a different drive/partition, it then performs a copy then delete action, same as OS X.
5. Launching Apps from the Finder.
A program is just as much a file as any other file. It takes up space on the drive. The OS of course knows what to do with it when you double click an app. Same as it knows what to do when you double click a document related to an app. Windows is no different. An .exe file is also just as much a file as a .doc file. The .exe extension tells Windows to try and treat it as a program to load into RAM. It's not just a simple placeholder. The program has to be made up of something. -

Can i create a new function (Fade out, Amplify down, Fade In)
Hi,
I am using Adobe Audition version 3.0
Is it possible to define a new function, so that i can select a short piece of the audio file within Edit View, so that the first 5 miliseconds (of the selected piece of audio) will be applied a Fade Out, and the last 5 miliseconds will be applied a Fade In, and in-between will be Amplified by -12dB.
I have to do this hundreds of times within a 1 hour recording of speech which has many short pauses, in order to remove small external noises between the words.
I normally select (one by one) the space/pause between the words and amplify this by -12 dB. Then i select the preceeding 5 miliseconds and apply a Fade Out. And the 5 miliseconds after the pause a Fade In.
I have only discovered today how to create short-cuts, so at least i have a short cut for the Amplify, Fade Out and Fade In.
But it would be great, if i could somehow define a function as i described above, to do all 3 steps within the one function.
Any help or tips appreciated.

You might be able to - but this is going to require quite a complex script that would need some serious editing by hand, and even then I'm not absolutely sure that it would work. The previous problem with this sort of script was that due to an 'anomaly' in the program, the - (minus) sign wouldn't work in a script, but I think that with the 3.0.1 patch, it does again. And even with this working, it's going to require some experimentation. Initially you need to refer to ryclark's method of entering absolute values which you will find here, and then you have to find a way to realise the whole operation a step at a time. You'd have to handle the fade out and the fade in separately, but where I think you might come considerably unstuck is trying to fade to -12dB for the middle section - that's probably the bit that would perhaps require slightly more than might actually be possible. I'd be quite happy to be proved wrong about that though!
I'm afraid that there's no documentation at all for the scripting language - this is something that Adobe, and Syntrillium before them, have never quite managed to provide, despite promising me some a while back. The good news though is that if you can make this work, then it's relatively straightforward to assign a shortcut key to it. But I should warn you now that this would be one hell of a script... -
Fade Out to White in Final Cut Pro (FCP)
Could someone please show me how to do add a fade-to-white transition in Final Cut Pro (FCP)? (Instead of black, which is default.) I want to be able to do both: 1) fade to white; 2) and white to the picture. An example clip:
http://www.allfilters.com/campingfilters/gravityfed/platypus-gravityworks-filter
*Click on the "Videos" tab.
This clip ends with "fade to white." I want to apply the same effect in the beginning (white to movie).
Thank you in advance.Effects > Video Transitions > Dissolve> Dip to Color Dissolve ... add it at the start and end
Double click the transition at the start (the Fade In) to open it in the Viewer and change the Color property to White. For extra credit you can change the Start value to 50%. Then double click the transition at the end (the Fade Out) to open it in the Viewer and again change the Color property to White. For extra credit change the End value to 50%.
Or another way would be to use Effects > Video Generators > Matte > Color Solid to create a "White" clip and then use that to dissolve into and out of your edit using a regular Cross Dissolve transition or by placing the Color Solid on another layer and the keyframing the opacity.
Hope it helps

In SE38 by using the copy option, Program along with sub-objects can be copied to another object.
Please let me know the Program/Logic behind that functionality.

Simple question - How do I fade out a project?
There's got to be an easy answer to this. I have created a project in Logic 9 and would like to fade it out at the end. This is really easy in GarageBand (Track > Fade Out) but I can't see how to do it in Logic. Any tips?
Press A on your computer keyboard to show the automation.
You can make changes in volume in a similar way to the way that you do it in Garageband, so try it with different tracks first. You can fade the whole thing out by automating the main output channel, but it needs to be in the Arrange window for you to be able to do that, yeah ?
If you open the mixer you can select the main out and choose an automation mode from the button on the channel strip - that automatically put it into the Arrange window, there are a few other ways of doing that that are worth knowing. -
Interactive–Fade In / Fade Out
I am working on creating an interactive map. When a button is clicked a circle graphic fades in. When the same button is clicked I want the graphic to fade out the same way. I can only figure out how to make the graphic instantly disappear instead of fading out.
I am following a tutorial and changing it to my needs. The tutorial can be seen here: http://flashexplained.com/design/making-an-interactive-country-map/
The steps for the animation start at step 8.
Here is the code I am using:
button_btn.onPress = function() {
if (popDensity._visible == false) {
popDensity._visible = true;
popDensity.play();
} else {
popDensity._visible = false;
popDensity.gotoAndStop(1);
I am using Flash CS3 and Action Script 2.0.
I would also like to have the circle graphic have a small photo pop up by it when the mouse hovers over it. What do I need to look into to make something like this happen? I haven't been able to find anything similar to doing this.
Thank you for any help you might have.If you used a timeline tween to make the object gradually appear, then you can make one that builds off the end of it that makes it fade out. You just tell it to play again. So you won't necessarily need the _visible code for the button anymore. In your animation you can use
// in frame 1 of the animation
stop();
this._visible = false;
// in frame 2
this._visible = true;
// the frame where it is fully faded in
stop();
// and your button code...
button_btn.onPress = function() {
popDensity.play();
So the object starts out invisible sitting stopped at frame 1, you click the button and the animation plays, turning visible at frame 2 and fading in until it stops when it is fully visible. You click the button again and it plays to fade out, looping back to stop at frame 1 and turn invisible again. There are other approaches, so maybe you can think of something else as you go.
You actually do not need to make the object visible/invisible with this approach because it is not being used as part of the control logic. -
Adobe Form - to fade oute a Form part
Hello,
what I have:
A Adobe Form with Masterpage and page1 and page2.
an interface with many variables.
Two of them are the name for appraiser1 and appraiser2
Problem:
If the field appraiser2 is empty, the second page shouldn't print.
manual I have made a partform about page2 and under Object it gives the section partform. here I have the chance to fade out the partform with the page2.
How can I do this in the script automatical, if the variable appraiser2 is empty.
Gives a attribute vor visible/output?
Thanks four your help.
regards dseHi Dirk,
There are 2 approaches to your requirement.
1) when you say if appraiser2 is null page 2 should not be printed, here why don't you make the page 2 invisible altogether, so if the value to this field is null user sees only page 1 and on print only page1 is printed ...?
2) fine lets say even the appraiser2 value is null you will show all the pages but when you click on the print button you need only the page1 is printed.
here lets say your form is of n pages so if appraiser2 is null page n should not be printed and all the n-1 pages to be printed then replace this below code on the print button click event.
Note: this is in java script
var appraiser2Value = <<form1.form2.subform1.appraiser1.rawValue>>; // this is your apparaiser2 field value.;
var lastPagenNo = 0;
lastPagenNo = (appraiser2Value!= null) ? (xfa.host.numPages -1).toString() : (xfa.host.numPages -2).toString();
//here page number is is calculated by -1 or -2 because the indecx for pages start from 0 in java scripting language.
xfa.host.print(1, "0", lastPagenNo, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0);
Try this out, and let me know if this works out or my understanding your requirement is wrong.
Cheers,

Stop and fade out a rolling title
How can you stop and fade out a rolling title, if at all?
Thank you.
PalHere's an alternative approach - it's great to have alternatives! I believe that to "stop and fade out a rolling title" is what the Roll/Crawl Options box is all about. Here's what I do:
Create a Default Roll Title.
In Roll/Crawl Options click on Start Off Screen (Preroll will disable) and enter the following values: Ease-In: 0, Ease-Out: 50 and Postroll: 100
Leave End Off Screen unticked
Make a few space lines before and after whatever it is you want to have stay on the screen at the end so that it fits in the middle. In my case that's usually ME! :-)
Your titles (as long as you like) will start off screen and then they will roll and roll until that last block appears and slows down - the Ease-Out value. That will stay on the screen for the Postroll value duration. Usually I have a normal disolve transition to do the fadeout. All done in just a few mouse clicks.
(The above values are what I use 99% of the time but you might wish to experiment.)
