Logic Board Error-No Firwire
I'm almost afraid to ask this question, but I just did a hardware test on my MDD G4 Dual Gig because I lost my firewire devices today. The Logic Board test revealed an error code fire 3/20. Is something fried? Can I replace it myself? This couldn't happen at a worse time because I'm editing video!!
HELP oh wise Mac people.
Hello! Sometimes the firewire ports "trip" out. Try shutting down and unplugging everything for about 30 minutes. Then restart and see if they have reset. Tom

AHT finds logic board error, but computer working fine
I ran the Apple Hardware Test to see the profile for my RAM, but 7 seconds into the test it stopped and reported a logic board error.
1. But my computer is working fine. If anyone has experience with this, I'll gladly take your advice. Do I ignore this error at my own risk? Or should I get it looked at now in case it's an early warning of something that can get worse? For the real Apple tech experts, here's the error code: 2I2C/1/1: 0x00000092.
Eleven months ago, I had to get a new power supply installed. It was covered under the extended warranty for power issues with iMac G5s. As I've indicated, it's been working fine since then.
2. Once AHT finds an error, it won't continue testing the remaining components. Does anyone know of a way to "force" the AHT to skip the logic board test and go on to test the other hardware items?
Thanks all.Michael, pray tell, where does one find the published list of codes you refer to? I searched the whole internet (or so it seemed like it) looking for a resource like that. Are you an AASP?
Even my experienced Apple technician and his AASP contacts didn't realize that my error code relates to the European Union. (And, BTW, I'm in Canada and I purchased my iMac from a store in Canada.) You have solved a mystery!
The strange thing is that when I phoned Apple Tech Support and asked to speak to a product specialist, even they told me that the code means "logic board needs replacement." When I asked to speak to a higher dept., I was connected to Customer Relations (very nice, professional fellow answered). When I explained that this G5 iMac has been problematic for me (failure after 7 mos. of ownership, power supply failure after 3 yrs, etc.) he offered me $100.00 off a new iMac ($125.00 in Canada), which I accepted.
I did use TechTool Pro to check the computer. It found no problems. Four months later and it's still going strong. I don't know whether to be upset with Apple for not bothering to look up the code, or whether I should look at this as a blessing in disguise (how else would I have received $125.00 off a new iMac? And now, my father gets a G5 that I can confidently say is in good working order). And it's strange that my local tech's AASP friends weren't any wiser. Aren't AASPs privy to this error code info? A mystery indeed... -

AHT isn't always dead on this is true.
Just out of curiosity, what are your symptoms? I am guessing that the start-up drive doesn't work if you put it into the 2nd bay?

while running the extended tests on the Hardware Test cd, the logic board test coughed up this error:
scc /1/5
anyone know what it means?
thanks,
G4 Gigabit Ethernet 1.2GHz (Sonnet Encore/ST), 768 MB/120 GB Mac OS X (10.4.3)As I recollect SCC refers to Serial Communications Controller. Probably something slightly flaky with the USB Phy.

Freezing, Panics, and a Logic Board error
Okay, I have a PowerMac G4 Gigabit Ethernet, and it's been crashing, giving me kernal panics, and today, toasted my main hard drive. It's running on:
1.2GHz Sonnet G4 upgrade
1.5GB Ram (2x256 and 2x512)
Radeon 9800 128MB
2x20GB hard drives RAID striped
18GB spare
combo drive
2x120GB external firewire drives
I can give more details if needed, but basically, if I watch TV resolution video with VLC media player it will crash after 25 minutes or so,if I run the iTunes visualizer for 15 mintues it will crash, if I play World of Warcraft for about 30 minutes it will crash, actually, if I run any graphically intensive game it crashes. Then today I ran the Apple update for the JSE (or whatever) and 10.4.6, then when I rebooted, it gave me a kernal panic, where the first line said something about not having the driver for "Powermac G4 3,3". Then I run Apple hardware test 1.0.1, I ran that 5 times, and the first time, I got the error "scc /3/7" every time after that I got "scc /1/5" all on the logic board, and it wouldn't test pass that. I do have the machine running but since I left my system disc at my parents', I'm booting it from another machine in target disk mode that has 10.3.9 (option-boot saved my butt, kinda). Last but not least, I cannot access my main drive (the 2x20GB RAID), and I'm hoping someone has a way to get to it, but every time I start, it tells me that I've connected a disk that is not recognized my Mac OS. If the drives are gone, I'll have to deal with it, but I can't have my machine freezing on me like this, and any help is much appreciated
Gigabit Ethernet Powermac G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Well after 5 tests and every time having the logic board fail I am willing to bet that the logic board IS the probable cause.
What I would do is disconnect all the drives (minus the x2 20gig raid) and get the data off each one. If that other machine you are booting up in targeted disk mode has at least 1 open ATA66 slot free then you can simply change the jumper settings on each drive and get the data off. This will also give you a chance to test and verify each disk.
If the other Mac you are using targeted disk mode on is a laptop then you could go the slower rout of taking turns with making each drive the master drive on the internal ATA66 buss that your machine started with. That way each time you start up with targeted disk mode you can get the data off that drive.
Once all your data is off I would consider the cost for a replacement board (probably $3-500 is my guess) vs the cost of getting a new machine or simply a used newer machine (like a dual 1.2Ghz G4 or something allong those lines). The drives will work in the newer machine so there would be no costs in getting new drives compatible with the system. That is my thoughts. -
Query logic board prob - errors on installing Tiger
Hello
I'm trying to fix a friends G4 iBook 1.2GHz and have apparently made it worse.
It was running on 10.3.9 and warning of the HD being full so I suggested installing more RAM and updating to 10.4.8
I put in 512 mb of RAM and tried installing Tiger (from 10.4.6 Apple install disk - a generic one - not a specific to iBook version) and whatever I try it starts the instal and then stops "there were errors installing, please restart and try again"
I pulled the extra RAM out thinking that may be the cause but got same error. I tried starting the iBook in target disk mode and installing Tiger from my old G4 PowerMac. Also tried zero'ing all data on the iBook. Everything I do gets the same message. I think the message is exactly as I have typed above - there's no error code or specific reason for failure to install. Needless to say, it wont boot from the failed instal version - it just gets a black screen.
As I understand it was generally working before I did all this. It had been dropped a year ago and was reparied by Apple - new case and hinges. The battery now doesn't fit very well but it does always power up fine so I'm not assuming that is to blame for anything.
I think that gives all the necessary info. My guess is there may be a fault on the logic board. Another guess could be to do with the instal disk but it has worked fine on my G4 Powermac. Also, I have not run the Apple Hardware tester. I've had one in the past but cannot currently find it.
If you have any suggestions, I'd be very grateful to hear them. Many thanksHi RichT353
I my opinion you fell at the first hurdle. An overfull hard drive can cause all sorts of erratic behavior.
Instead of adding RAM, the remedy would have been a larger Hard disk.
Nevermind; you must try to restart it in a functioning Operating System, - if that's panther, that is OK, and then make some space on the disk, by dealing with excesive music, file, photos, videos, and other such personal documents.
Boot from the Installer CD, holding down the C key and then after selecting the language, go up to the top menu bar, to run Disk Utility and selecting the Hard disk, choose
Repair Disk.
Then Repair Permissions.
Exit disk utility, cancel the installation and restart normally.
Once you have things back on an even keel, then think about upgrading the OS to Tiger.
Of course adding the extra RAM will not hurt.
good luck

TM error after logic board replaced
hey guys,
I've got a strange one. I had to have my logic board replaced in my Macbook Pro due to a nVidia graphics card dying. Time Machine was working like a champ before I dropped it off. When I got it back I got a TM error and it doesn't want to backup now. One thing that seems strange is that when I open a Finder window and then launch Time Machine, it's looking for files for Jonathan's Computer (2) instead of just Jonathan's Computer. (Yes, I'm Jonathan.) So it seems to be looking at some sort of duplicate or something. My backup files are on the TM drive and are searchable via Finder. However TM won't backup and I can't restore anything.
Any thoughts as to what may have been borked and how to fix it? Thx.
JonathanJabulani Jonny wrote:
However TM won't backup
Why not? It's likely because the extra full backup has filled your TM drive.
See item #C2 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
It will show you how to locate the message(s) that describe the problem, then help you fix it.
If that doesn't help, post back with details, including all the messages, your setup (especially the destination for the backups), what you've done, and the results.
Also note #C8 which addresses the Logic Board problem. -
I just had major issues with my Mac and had to get a new logic board. When I got the computer back and tried to reinstall Photoshop- it says error 6. What do I do? It is impossible to get any phone number for adobe.

HD or Logic Board? error code ata1/6/3 HD:2,0
I've been having a problem with my PB Ti 500 where after running for a while, I'll get the beachball of death and my application, usually Safari or FireFox since I haven't been able to rely on the machine lately, hang. Other symptoms are the machine occasionally not seeing the drive and issues with CDs spinning up and mounting.
I'm on my third replacement harddrive, the current one has 4 years left on its warranty so I'm skeptical that it's the problem. It's a Seagate Momentus 40GB drive. The error messages, below, suggest that it might be the HD but I also wonder if it could be the logic board and the ata bus going.
Any ideas or advice are appreciated!

I just recently aquired a Power Mac G5 early 2004.
When I power the system up. I get 2 beeps
and the small front panel light blinks 2 times continuously.
The error codes show that it means a memory problem or
no memory present. Memory is installed.
In this case do I need to replace the mother board.
The system goes no futher, no video or any thing.Well, it's possible that someone pulled the original RAM from the computer before they sold it, and repalced it with incompatible RAM. That, believe it of not, would be the best of all world in this case, as a working G5 logic board and its installation could cost as much as a refurbed Intel mac.
I would contact the seller if you did not personally see the computer working before you bought it.
As the computer had to be moved about--possibly shipped--to change hands, first check that all internal cards and RAM Modules are fully seated. They can work loose in some models. -
Logic board has an error code running A.H.T.
I ran AHT 2.0.1 on my MDD Dual 1.25 OS10.4.11
It said the logic board had an error code.
2PFW/2/3:Firewire
The test stopped.
I this serious?
What should I do?
ShamusFirewire external DVD & HD work fine for me in 10.4.11. Never tried target disk mode.
Anyway, if AHT found an error with your firewire port, I'd say you have a hardware problem with the firewire port not a software problem. If you have lived with it this long, you can live with it a while longer.
I guess the question it how do you skip the firewire hardware test??? I do not know. Anyone know?

Error: 4SNS/1/4000000:TGOD after logic board replaced
Hi there -
I got my MBP back today, after having the logic board replaced to resolve the nvidea graphics card issue (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377).
After working with it for about 40 minutes the screen went blank. I ran the Apple Hardware test on restarting, and got the following error code -
4SNS/1/4000000:TGOD
I've given it back to the guys who repaired it for further testing. They said that their diagnostics arent showing anything, but the Apple Hardware Test has come back with this error each time. I've searched around for information on this error, and there are suggestions ranging from issues with the logic board to a thermal sensor issue.
I've found 2 threads in this forum where people have experienced the same sequence of events - logic board replaced for the nvidea problem, only to get this error code when the laptop is returned.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8633584
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1850653&tstart=0
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem might be? Has anyone else had the same issue?
Any feedback would be appreciated.I can't find the thread, but I do recall one case where the person got to talk to a product specialist, who said that the sensors sometimes do not get precisely located where they should be after a logic board is replaced, as well as sometimes not being securely plugged into the logic board. I don't think the AHT error should be ignored. If the local guys can't figure it out, it may need to go to Apple.
Good luck!

Is this fixable some where? Or am i s%!t out of luck?If something has broken off the logic board, you'll need to get a new logic board.

Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz Logic Board Part Number
Hi all,
I have been searching for a few hours trying to find the part number for the logic board one of my MBPs. I, unfortunately, have the Mid-2010 15" MBP with the bad GPU that results in endless kernel panics. (I also had the first Pentium chip, the pentium 60 with the floating point error in 1995 too). I upgraded the MBP to the 2.8 GHz, core i7 (2 core) processor when I ordered it in 2010.
Anyway, the apple tech guide exploded view does not show the part number for the 2.8 GHz. It only shows the part numbers for the other 3 configurations - 2.4, 2.53 and 2.66. I took the cover and discovered my my EEE code is "QAG".
I have just started trying to figure this issue out (too much time has passed and Apple will charge me to fix). I want to try and find a replacement logic board and do it myself. Does anyone have an idea what my part number is for the logic board? None of the sites I searched have a 2.8 GHz board listed just 2.66.
An alternative question - In my PC building days, some motherboards were compatible with multiple speeds of main processors. My computer model number
MC373LL/A
is the same as the 2.66GHz model. Does the 2.66 GHz logic board support the 2.8 core i7 too? I don't want to screw up and order the wrong part.
OSX Yosemite is installed.
Thanks,
Tonyhttp://www.powerbookmedic.com/MacBook-Pro-15-Unibody-28GHz-Core-i7-Logic-Board-p -36842.html

Kernel panic.. with new logic board
Hi,
So I recently replaced my logic board after trying EVERYTHING to fix a somewhat frequently occuring kernel panic. Now however.. it has happened again.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I honestly feel like I've tried everything. Could it be bad RAM? I've changed the hard drive, done a fresh OS X install (perhaps its something in my settings from migrating my old stuff back over?), new logic board.. reset PRAM, every suggestion I could find.
Here is the old discussion before I changed the logic board. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3902490
