Logic Control broken by Logic Pro 8

My Logic Control, which has worked fine from Logic 5 to 7, now in Logic 8 has become almost inoperative.
1. the "save" button no longer works. It should not need assigning, according to the Apple Logic support guy, who is getting the same problem with his Logic Control. No solution yet.
2. the track display behaves erratically. When moving a fader, that track suddenly reads "volume" in the display, and won't go away. the track next door to the right of it immediately loses its name. Normally, this would never happen. the track is restored to semi-normalcy by pressing the "zoom" button - which, far as I know, is not the function of the zoom button, anyway.
Tried deleting and reinstalling Logic Control in the Control Surfaces prefs. No change.
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone out there is experiencing the same, and, hopefully has come up with a solution. help

I'm not denying that. I am quite aware that Logic 8 has issues. Being factual is important though. Especially when bringing credibility into question. If Logic causes you so many problems perhaps you should consider migrating to a new DAW. Gotta be able to enjoy your work. Pro Tools 8 looks quite tempting to me actually.
Cheers
Factual is every bit as important as literate.
I use Logic 7. In Logic 7 the control surface works perfectly, the audio output is not corrupted at the 2nd bit and all of the audio configuration functions are intact. None of this is true in Logic 8.
And please note that by saying that logic 8 is causing "me" so many problems you imply that these are not real issues, but apple have admitted to these issues and done NOTHING for "6 months".. Am I supposed to use defective software or do my job?
So please tell me why did you advise me to ditch Logic 8 (which I have stated that I DO NOT use) and moving to another DAW?

In Logic Pro 9, how many midi controlled software instruments do you get and is there possibility to download more as it says 40 on the programs info on the Mac Store, as i intend to compose on it but with only 40 instruments it's not really worth it.
So i was just wondering whether it let you download more for free.
    Thanks for reading

Yes: I too am interested in the software instruments available in Logic Pro: one has to be a bit wary of the jam packs because there don't seem to be many solo instruments included. But I looked at the Logic screen in an Apple store the other day, and it worked like GarageBand in
this respect: you created a new track choosing the software instrument option and a whole lot of instruments came
up in a column on the right: lots of solo wind instruments, plenty of keyboards and guitars of course and not very many solo strings, only one violin, in the world music subsection under Irish fiddle. Yehudi Menuhin
where are you when we need you?
What I've been trying to find out is which part of the purchase does this long list of software instruments arrive with, because it's basically the only reason
I'm interested - I get on fine with gb but it
Just hasn't got enough instruments, and as I say the jam packs don't seem
to resolve this ? Or do they? Could someone please help
    me with this?

  • Logic Pro X inaccessible after waking from sleep when using an MCU Control Surface

I'm having a problem I cannot seem to get around without force quitting Logic every time.  If I have a Control Surface setup as a Mackie Control (v1.0); and if the computer goes to sleep, and then i turn off the controller while the computer is asleep (for any reason), and then wake the computer without turning on the controller first, Logic becomes completely unusable and must be force quit.
My controller in this example is Solid State Logic's Nucleus controller, however it happens with other Mackie Control compatible controllers (i have another one i tested against), BUT not a real Mackie Controller sold by Mackie (i tested with that as well); more details below.
For the SSL controller, Logic automatically sets it up like this:
Now if the computer goes to sleep, and i wake it up, i get the following dialog, which is fine:
After clicking on "Continue" button or hitting the enter key, Logic is rendered useless, as if there is a modal dialog still open somewhere.  Clicking anywhere on the gui results in white flashes and nothing else.  doing cmd+Q to quit actually makes it try to quit (a save dialog appears), but it never does successfully quit, making me resort to force-quitting.  For an example, here's a pic of the file menu at this point:
I also have a regular Mackie Control Unit (MCU Pro) and the strange thing is with that unit, everything works fine after sleep, turning off controller, and re-awakening.  However, there is a difference in what kind of dialog is displayed after the sleep, which probably has something to do with this issue.
Here is the setup screen of the MCU Pro:
And here is the dialog for the missing ports after waking from sleep:
This dialog is completely different than the other control surface's missing ports dialog.  When clicking on "Keep unassigned" here, Logic resumes working fine.
The project is as minimal as possible; nothing is loaded, all that's there is an empty instrument track and a Control Surface configured.
    I'm using a Mac Mini (late 2012)
Processor  2,6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
    with Logic Pro X 10.0.7
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Did you ever figure out a solution to this problem?
I just pulled out my original Emagic Logic Control (MIDI) and I have having the same problem.

  • Can I control the system output via Logic Pro?

I know how to record system output in Logic Pro (CH 13&14), but in order to do that, the tracks in Logic Pro must be muted to avoid feedback.
What I'm wondering is if I can control overall system output via a track/tracks in Logic Pro. I've got a Plextor PVR set up so that I can watch tv on my Mac, but when I connect my digital cable box to it the volume is down at around a faint -24 dB. I'd like to be able to boost the gain with Logic.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Never mind. I found a cool app called Audio Hijack Pro that works perfectly for this.

  • Any ideas on how to control the amount of sustain pedal data that Logic Pro 9 records? Every time I press the sustain pedal down, it records 4 sustains. Same thing when I release the pedal. Thanks!

This gets confusing, you have two Macs with different issues and two pedals with different issues? First let's sort out what's what. So, do the issues come from the pedals or from the Mac software? To find out, simply switch the pedals and note their behaviour. No change: it's the software, change: it's the pedals (imho the most likely scenario).
Second, what kind of pedals are they? Can you name the type of pedal too? The Yamaha what and the Mgear which?
Third, with the 4 fold data problem, are the doubled events simultaneous, or a few ticks apart, or more?
Also, you have no MIDI keyboard? Are the pedals both "standalone"?
I think you have to sort this problem at its' source, which are the pedals. You could, if push really comes to shove, perhaps create some sort of ingeneous/elaborate transformer setup in the environment to filter the extra messages, although with the 4/4 sustain events that may not even be possible. With the "stepped" events you could set up a filter to just block all events with values 20-110 or so.
But much better would be to configure the pedal(s) correctly.

  • Logic Pro 9.1.6 OS X server 10.7.2 create tape track to control external recorder

I'm just starting with Logic Pro, and I have an 8-track multitrack recorder from which I wish to import the tracks.  It uses MMC to control the transport functions, and MTC for timing.  I can use the 'Sync' button to start the thing playing, but no sound is recorded in the armed tracks in Logic.  Also, I can't find the instrument with the tape deck icon mentioned in the manual.  Can anyone shed some light on what to do?

    Hi
If all you are trying to do is "bounce" the recorded audio from the 8 Track into Logic, you should not need the MMC devices (The MMC object allows you to 'remotely' control recording on the 8 track from Logic)
How are you routing the audio from the 8 track into Logic?
If you have Logic and the 8 track running in-sync, all you should need to do is arm a standard audio track in Logic (set to the correct audio inputs) and hit Rec.

  • Using Mackie Control with Logic Pro 7 and Yamaha O1X

I currently own a Yamaha O1x which is a mixer/control surface/audio interface that I use with Logic Pro 7. I am planning on selling the O1X and replacing it with the Mackie Control Universal as my DAW controller and using the Apogee Ensemble as my audio interface. I already have purchased the Mackie Control Universal and would like to begin using it instead of the O1X as my DAW controller, but while I am waiting for the Apogee Ensemble to be released I still need the audio interface capabilties of the O1X. The O1X uses Yamaha's MLAN protocol to connect to the G5. MLAN is a firewire interface that can transmit both audio and midi. Does anyone have a suggestion for a work-around solution so that I can use my Mackie Control Universal (which connects via midi cable) and only use the audio capability but not the control surface of the O1X via the firewire connection? I haven't been able to figure my way through this one and see if it is possible. I have already tried having them both hooked up at the same time, and the Mackie Control seemed to work fine but the audio on the O1X didn't seem to be connecting and functioning properly. I appreciate any help as I am anxious to use my Mackie Control.
    Thank you!

You need to connect only the Audio and not the MIDI between your 01x and Mac. You can achieve this in mLan Graphic Patchbay-connect the cables between the Nodes in Audio part of a Graphic Patchbay, connect the Wordclock but do not make any MIDI connections. this way it should work as you want. the other way is to Make your regular connection from mLan Autoconnector and disable the MIDI ports that are dedicated to control the DAW by 01x by some freeware utility (01x uses port 1 for that...)
As this is quite 01x specific, please visit 01xray.com/forums where you will find more help, or send me PM.
As Apogee enssemble is expected to have great features, I would rather recommend the i88x instead of Enssemble (i88x has two Mic preamps-the best Yamaha produces (derived from Dm2000)VERY good converters (mLan is known for low jitter and it was tested with Rosseta by a mate from 01x forum who said (he tested it in store with other people) that i88x sounded better-may believe it or not...).The mLan Graphis Patchbay application allows you to patch connections between mLan devices and computer -very flexible. 01x already does almost the same as Mackie control and it is for almost the same price.... But maybe you are pi_ssed of waiting for new mLan drivers? I am just speculating....

  • Logic Pro - control sequencer tempo externally

Its a drag, that Logic Pro doesn't offer the option to sync to external Midi clock since version 8 anymore. While thousands of live players are switching to otehr applications: What has Logic Pro 8 or 9 to offer today to work around this problem without extra applications or devices?
Grateful for any easy and working answer.

I don't run any audio, just ESX24/ES1 stuff.
That's audio, any way you slice it. If Logic is hosting sound-generating plugins, it's doing audio.
On the flip side, if you were using Logic solely as a sequencer for external MIDI gear, and you shut off CoreAudio in Logic, only then would you truly not be doing audio in Logic. Now, wouldn't it have been nice to have a "MIDI only mode" so that Logic could in fact clock to external MIDI clock soley for the purpose of using it as a sequencer for external MIDI devices? Yup. I can only guess as to why they decided not to implement that.
If the tap works, then external tempo control is also back.
No. Tap only sets Logic's tempo, but it doesn't clock Logic. After you tap in the requisite number of taps, Logic free-runs at the new tempo under its own internal clock. So no, external tempo control is not back. It's just not there at all.
Then only midi-controlled start/stop/rewind would be missing to resemble midi clock functionality.
Even if you could (and you can) get Logic to respond to external tap tempo events (give it 4 up front and let it roll), it's going to re-interpret the tempo each time it gets those four 'taps'. So there's no guarantee that the tempo will be the same each time.
The only way to get this to work is to figure out how you can send MTC from one of your other devices and synchronize Logic that way. Otherwise (I hate to say it, but it's true) you're SOL.

  • Logic Pro X: control surface "Scrub" no longer working

    Hi everyone,
I'm a relatively new user of Logic Pro, and a very new user of Logic Pro X - I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction!
I've been using DAW Remote HD (by EUM Labs) on an iPad 1 with Logic Pro 9, and found them to be a great combination.
Two weeks ago I upgraded to Logic Pro X, and I've found a problem which has been driving me crazy. Basically, the "Scrub" function using the Jog wheel in DAW Remote HD has stopped working. Using the jog wheel just to jog forwards and backwards works fine; however, when I hit the Jog / Scrub toggle, the "Play" button lights up, and then regardless of whether I try to scrub forwards or backwards the playhead just "jiggles" in place and nothing happens - no scrubbing.
Can anyone help? I'm guessing the control surface assignment has gone awry somewhere, but have *no clue* where to start. I've had a look at the Controller Assignments expert view in Logic Pro X, and had a read through the Control Surfaces documentation, but I'm all at sea. Is this a bug somewhere, or is this something I can "fix" myself?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help. I can't use the native Logic Remote as I only have an iPad 1, and am hoping I can get this important function working again on DAW Remote HD as it's pretty vital in my workflow.
    All the best,
    Sarah

    Hi everyone,
I've been doing a bit more research into this and am wondering if it might actually be a bug. I've deleted my control surface config file, reinstalled the DAW Remote several times clean, both automatic and manual, and even tried it out with completely different control surface software on my iPad1.
In all cases the "scrub" function doesn't work properly - it stutters and "jiggles" and moves forwards randomly, and all the while the jog / scrub toggle enables the "PLAY" button (I'm not sure if this latter is intended functionality or not - I never noticed when it was working in Logic Pro 9).
Could it be that Logic Pro X is interpreting the scrub command(s) differently from Logic Pro 9, or even incorrectly? I don't know anywhere near enough about control surface commands to comment - just that the apps & functions were working with Logic Pro 9 and now aren't with Logic Pro X.
Would someone mind giving this a second check to see if it can be replicated? Basically use an iPad control surface app like DAW Remote HD, AC-7, LPTouch, etc, with Logic Pro X and try and get the "scrub" working on the jog wheel (jog works fine - it's scrub that's the issue).
I'm using an iPad 1 so don't have access to the Logic Remote, and it seems a bit expensive to upgrade the iPad to get access to a scrub wheel.
    Thanks!
    Sarah

  • Controlling Logic Pro pitch bend

Okay I just got Logic Pro 9 and haven't even dived into the manual yet but I hope someone can step me through this nonetheless. How do I control the pitch bend sound for the software guitar? It has this unappealing country twang (no offense to country fans) every time I hit the pitch bend button on my midi and it's driving me batty. I have to get rid of it. Can someone please guide me through changing this? I'm looking for a pitch bend setting similar to the one in garageband, more of a rock feel, or better. Anything but this.
Thank you, for the love of God, thank you.

    Hey Guys

  • Logic Control and Logic Pro 9.1.0

I'm running Logic Pro 9.1.1 and Logic Control V1.02 which makes it mackie control.
Today i set it up with Logic and noticed a few things:
    1. The level reading on the Logic Control's display is choppy...meaning if i raise a fader really slowly the display levels also rise slowly synced with on the onscreen faders. However if i move the faders a bit faster, the Logic Control display reading is very choppy--it always settles at the right level, but the changes are jumpy. Is this usual ? This was not the case with Logic 7.
    2. A few times the locator bar jumped forward missing beats, as if stop/play were pressed repeatedly. I rebuilt defaults and now it seems to be working fine, This used to happen to me in Logic Pro 7 as well, maybe its a fault with my controller. Anyone ever experience this ?
    Thanks
    Faisal

Cowbell, my experience has been different.
I tried the Logic Control mode but things were really wierd, some buttons not working, then the whole control lost contact with logic till i re-launched.
The Scroll bar jumping thing was happening a lot more often.
Then i deleted LC, trashed preferences and re-booted in Mackie Control mode.
Still strangeness and i went did the check TOUCHLESS FADER thing and all is working fine now which is WEIRD!!!!!! I think i may have a defect in the jog wheel/transport section but its all working fine for now.
I'll give it a few days.
    Thanks !!

  • External control of Logic Pro

I'm branching out. Is it possible to control start / stop externally with my Midi keyboard, i.e....do I use program change, control nos, etc. I want to be able to set up a song...then once I punch a foot controller or press a certain key, the program starts. Sorry if this sounds stupid. I'm going live for the first time.

You understand that MIDI is not audio (sound), it's only a simple set of instructions that describe the MIDI performance. It (MIDI) can be routed to and sound producing keyboard, module , virtual instrument... etc.
In any case, you have it routed back to your keyboard so natually tha sound will come out of the keyboard, it's the keyboard that is producing the audio. If you want the sound to come out of the computer the audio outs of the keyboard have to be routed to the audio inputs of your sound card, an audio track selected, software monitoring enabled and the track record enabled. (that's one way)
You could also create an instrument track, load a virtual instrument and slide the MIDI performance over to the virtual instrument track.

  • Control surface for Logic Pro

    Hi There
Any ideas- what is the best control surface to use with Logic Pro?I would like a controller with at least 16 or 24 individaul faders.
Does the Mackie X Bus emulate a controller for Logic Pro?
    thank you
    G4 1.25 gig   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   G4,

I'm using a Mackie Control Universal and absolutely love it. The integration with Logic is top-notch. It would be nice to add an Extender and have 16 faders, but I'm finding that for what I do 8 faders at a time is plenty.
The X Bus has a Mackie Control layer that gives you the same amount of control. I believe the MCU's buttons are all displayed up on the X Bus screens. I'm sure you can find out more in the owners manual: http://www.mackie.com/products/digitalxbus/pdfs/X200OM_Ver1_04.pdf
