Logic Ex7 motu896 & Lacie drive ?problems!

I just picked up an 896, all works fine but i can't get it to record to my Lacie drive (250G). The sound is messed up, Glich and pops and stuff and then i get an Error message "Error while trying to sync audio and midi" Logic records fine
to my G4 hard drive. Also playback of already recorded files from the lacie drive
is the same way! Hard Time!!!???

Hi,
There are several possibilities:
1.The drive is not formatted correctly.Chck to see the drive has Mac OS Extended Journaled formatting,as this is the recommended format.
2.The order in which the audio interface and the LaCie drive can be changed.Try reversing the order in which the audio interface and the drive are connected to the computer. This sometimes works, for no apparent reason.
3.Are the pops and glitches on the recording themselves? Do you see them in the audio files,or are they occurring during playback only? Please check and audio file to verify which is occurring.
If the recordings themselves (the audio files) do not display the glitches and pops, then most likely it is an audio interface problem.Perhaps the drivers are not current,or the firmware needs to be updated.Check with Motu for this.
If the recordings ARE infested with the glitches, then it could be a faulty hard drive. Please talk to LaCie abouth this,to get a replacement drive.
I hope this helps you out,
Cheers

LaCie 6TB drive ejects when Air sleeps: I use two 6TB LaCie drives - home and office with my Air, which travels with me between the locations. Only have a problem with one that inappropriately ejects when the Air sleeps (and only sometimes). Is there a fix? I've read others who believe that the problem is with the operating system (I'm using 10.9.2). But my problem suggests that it's with one of the LaCie's. Any suggestions about how to fix?

Lacie doesnt make HD, thats a Seagate inside the box.
    Is there a fix?
Yes, get a 4TB max HD,    6TB drives are both new and have known issues,  ...in fact so do most all 4TB drives.
my problem suggests that it's with one of the LaCie's
    You mean Seagate
Large external hard drives are great! Large external hard drives are horrible
It is a common premise that people are overjoyed at the dropping prices per terabyte on external hard drives, and the first thing that enters most peoples minds is "great, I can put all my stuff on one drive,... all of it!" However considerations need to be made in creating a giant single choke point for not mere data loss, but seriously large data loss. If there is at the very least yet another redundant copy, this is fine, otherwise do not consider it whatsoever. Some 3TB and 4TB drives of all mfg. have, at the time of this writing, reliability concerns currently and best recommendation is staying at 2TB drives or less.
Advantages and disadvantages of larger 3TB and 4TB external drives must be weighed

  • Problem with Lacie Drive.

I go into time machine and it is not being recognized.
It comes up in the Mac HD folder under shared but it says it is not connected. I followed the steps Lacie gave for installation and it still doesn't work.
Someone please help. I contacted Lacie weeks ago and have still yet to hear back.

I had the same problem after the security update. Did all the usual things: repaired permissions & verified hard drive from the start up cd, did the fsck -y repair all for nothing. Then I read somewhere on this forum about another type of check, short of zapping the pram, or what ever it is called in Intel Mac's. I powered down everything and then removed all peripherals from the computer, including the keyboard and mouse. I also unplugged the external lacie drive from the wall. Then I waited 30 minutes. I plugged all but the external drive back in and re-did the permission / drive repairs. Then I repowered the external drive and reattached it. Rebooted the computer and everything loaded and worked just fine. In fact, all applications and anything I do on the computer is now much quicker.

  • Problems saving iTunes library to external LaCie drive

Not sure if this is posted in the correct place, but I am having problems backing up my iTunes library to an external drive. I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.4.11, and a LaCie 250GB external drive. I have saved all other files (PDF, text, picures, etc) by dragging and dropping onto the LaCie desktop icon, but when I try to transfer my iTunes music files they won't copy to the hard drive. Dragging and dropping the files doesn't seem to work, and I tried backing up my library in iTunes, but it only prompts me to burn them to a disk (not the hard drive). The LaCie drive is the "rugged" model/ USB 2.0.
    Can anybody help with this?
    -Thanks

I would check to see what type of file system your external drives are formatted for.
Use the Disk Utility in OSX to see what it is. If its a Lacie Drive, I'm guessing its already pre-formatted to work with MAC.
Make sure its HPFS and not something like FAT or FAT32 or NTFS which are all Windows based file systems.
If you find your drive is formatted with FAT, FAT32 or NTFS, you should format your drive, but that will mean erasing any data is on it. So you will need to move the data off before you format the drive. Format it using the Disk Utility in OSX.
There are limitations as well with the file format, I would search Wikipedia to see a comparison of the different file formats.

  • Problems with Lacie Drive

    Greetings all!
I am AGAIN having problems with my Lacie Big Disk. This thing has caused all sorts of problems on three separate occasions. This morning when I went to do some work in FCP, I noticed that I kept getting the "beachball" everytine I did anything. I went to the finder, and accessed the Big Disk from there, and got the same problem.
In the past Lacie had me do some things like repair permissions, etc. I did those things with no change. I then tried connecting through a FireWire 400 port. I did not have any free ports, so I connected to the port on another external drive. This seemed to work. However, when I did this, I suddenly got some REALLY strange results. All the files on the other drive kept failing! If I tried to open a photoshop file, I got errors. If I opened a DVD SP file, I got errors.
I turned off the Lacie drive, and suddenly the files on the other drive opened fine again!
    Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

One suggestion is to get a PCI firewire card, and create another bus.
I did not have any free ports, so I connected to the port on another external drive.
Some drives don't play well with other firewire devices, and you seem to have every port involved with one or more devices

  • Problems using Lacie drive as scratch disk

I'm trying to capture footage into FCE and saving the project to the external Lacie drive and i keep getting this timecode error and the recording stops. It seems like it's putting timecode breaks where there aren't even cuts in the footage. I've searched around and found other people with the same problem but can't find an answer. I'm using this professionally and am under a deadline! Please help!

Thank you for this suggestion...I recently purchased a new system and upgraded to FCE 4; never had this problem with version 2.
In my case, I was trying to capture to an external Maxtor drive from a Canon GL 2. Simply capturing to the internal drive (something which Apple, curiously, advises against) solved the problem, and I didn't have to remove the external drive. It's a kludge, since I'll have to manually move the footage over to the Maxtor, but it's an effective kludge.

  • Fresco Logic xHC1 (USB3) Root Hub driver problem Code 31

I  have the Ideapad S206 Windows 7 32 bit and have a driver problem which I believe is due to a Windows update at sometime. I get the following statement :-
"The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load drivers for this device (Code 31)"
Can someone very kindly please advise me how to sort this out. Apparently uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling does not work.

  • External Lacie drive suddenly became "unreadable by this computer"!!

Probably not the wisest thing to do, but I've just used a 160G Lacie drive to store ALL of the dv files and STP audio mix files for a 2hr project (and unfortunately one of the 3hr source clips), and the above message came up in red when I turned it back on.
If I look at 'about this mac' it is seeing the drive, but I get no options but to reformat!
I've tried it on 2 other iMacs, with the same result. The directory has obviously become corrupted somehow ..
Anyone know how I try and recover the files (which took me the best part of 2 weeks to create!!)?
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Hi Christina,
It's quite possible the AC PSU has given out, if It's only Bus powered as it appears, that's the worst idea ever & asking for eventual problems.
    What Format is it?
Did you install any WD SW?

  • External Lacie drive crashed, now I can't find a recent backup for LR3 catalog.

I have LR3 on a Mac running OS 10.6.8.  My catalog, cache and images were stored on an external Lacie 1TB drive (partitioned so it can be used by a pc and mac).  My catalog backup files were saved on another external drive MXTR as well as copies of all my images.  The Lacie had started self ejecting while running LR3 and I thought it was maybe a problem with the cable, as it would work fine after rebooting.  Yesterday it crashed LR3 and never remounted.  I used Disk Utility to try and repair the disk and it instructed me to erase the disk and start over.  I was not worried, since my catalog was backed up to another drive.  10 hours to erase the drive (the drive never quit during this time).  Another 2 hours to copy my images from the MXTR to the Lacie (again the drive never self ejected during this time either).  So now I go to find my most recent backup catalog.  The most recent one I could find was dated 2/09/2012.  I am baffled.  What happened all those times I was backing up?  I upgraded to LR3 in 2011, and I don't remember ever telling it to backup to another folder or drive.
Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

What happened all those times I was backing up?
We can't possibly know what happend or where your backups are. But you can indeed search all of your available hard disks and see if there are any files named *.LRCAT with recent dates.
By the way, I would be extremely wary of using that Lacie drive any more. If it was me, I'd replace it.

  • Error burning to LaCie drive from DVD Studio Pro 3...

Whenever I attempt to burn a DVD to my LaCie d2 DVD+-R drive, using DVD Studio Pro 3, I get an 'error #6' and the burn is unsuccessful. At the 'formatting' stage the process hangs up after a couple of minutes and returns an error message with the following text:
"The recording device reported error #6: Power on, reset, or bus device reset occurred. (0x29, 0x00.)"
Has anyone else experienced this? I have used both DVD+R and DVD-R discs. I have used the device on two different G4s--a 733MHz, and a dual-1.25GHz. I have worked with the source files on the hard drive, as well as on an external drive. The size of the project is nowhere near capacity for a DVD.
But the result is always the same: Burn aborted, 'error #6.' I'm at my wit's end. Thanks for any suggestions or insight...

    hey terry
you say you are directly burning from DVDSP to your lacie drive, correct? is it an internal drive? did you recently replace your drive?
if it is, go to "about your mac" on finder and click on "more information".
look at your ATA and or "burner" (something to that effect) and make sure that is "vendor supported" because if it is not, iTunes, DVDSP and iDVD will have problems burning media directly from those apps.
the easiest way to fix this is with "patchburn". it will make your drive compatible or "supported" by able and you will have NO problems buring.
question: do you have another burning program (such as toast)? do you have problems burning from the finder?

  • DVD drive problem or dodgy disk?

    Hi all,
I am currently trying to install a program (Logic Studio) on to my iMac.  The first install disk works fine but the installation fails on the second disk with an error in the log basically saying "an error occurred while extracting files from the package".
I then tried to save the problem disk as a Disk Image but Disk Utility failed citing a rather generic "input/output" error.
Now generally this sounds like a disk problem but I've been advised that this can sometimes be an optical drive problem.  My only concern is that I installed Logic about two weeks ago and everything went smoothly and now, after someone has faffed around putting a new HD into the tightly packed internals of my iMac, one of the disk doesn't work.
I don't have my original install disk for my computer so to the best of my knowledge the Apple Hardware Test is a no-go.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Rich

It'll tell you that the drive is doing what it should :-) if the offending disc continues to play up my only advise is to try and clone it to a disc image using Disc Utility and burning the image if successful to new disc. Good Luck :-)

  • LaCie Drives

I was wondering what peoples experiences with LaCie drives is like. I am thinking of getting the mobile porsche drive they have since it has a firewire option and was hoping to hear some people's feedback before purchasing. Thanks

I have the Porsche design mobile drive in 100gig and have had no problems with it. I use it for storage and have also used as a boot device on my G4 and Pismo. It's great because it offers the FW which as well as enabling it as a boot device it bypasses the low power USB ports that my machine has (not enough to power most USB bus powered drives).

  • ITunes iPod update slow, LaCie drive sputters

I have my iTunes music on a LaCie 500GB external Firewire drive. The library file is on my Mac. When I try to update my iPod using iTunes 7, the drive seems to "click off" after each song, then seems to restart itself for the next song. The updating process is extraordinarily and unacceptably slow (1 song every 30 seconds) when the iTunes "Devices" screen is showing. The updating process is faster (5-10 songs every 30 seconds) when I make another screen (e.g., the Library) visible, but the LaCie drive still "clicks off" every now and then. This behavior seems new with iTunes 7 and is extremely annoying. What's the problem?

follow up... during a second round of updates, the problem did not occur. Very odd.

  • Crack in Audio when FireWire LaCie drive plugged

I have a Mac Pro 2.66 with an ATI X1900 XT and 2Gb RAM.
For audio I use the Focusrite Saffire LE (Excellent sound) which is plugged in the FW400 port on the back.
    All well so far.
Except that when I plug a LaCie FW 800 hard drive on the front FW800 port, I get crack and pops in audio, with iTunes for example.
And worse, if I copy a file from an internal hard drive to the LaCie, the audio is completely distorted.
When I eject the LaCie drive, and unplug it from the front port, the audio is completely off. No more audio.
I have to restart to get it back.
Is there known problem with FireWire ports in front or back ?

I have the exact same problem. BUt then it got worse: I could only get blips of audio out. After reading your post I went and unplugged the lacie and the audio will play now but I'm still getting pops.
    I will be experimenting more.

  • Serious external drive problems after installing Mavericks

OK, so now I am seeing multiple external drive problems. Here is my setup: A GTech 4TB drive connected to MacBook Pro via Firewire, formatted of 2 partitions of 2TB each (called GT1 and GT2). This is then daisy chained to two WD drives of 2TB each, called WD1 and WD2.
After installing Mavericks everything worked fine (in fact I have an amazing speed increase). However, after restarting my machine this morning I have the following issues:
The GTech is now a single partition called MyBook (obviously a hangover from the WD drives. I suspect the WD drive managment software) with NO data files. Interestingly it shows the following USED 1,106,870,272 bytes (1.11 GB on disk). This suggests that one of the partitions has disapeared completely.
Whilst WD 1 launces ok, WD 2 causes the Finder to relaunch whenever selected, meaning I can't get to the files. I remember having this problem before when I upgraded to SL, and it having something to do with hidden files that needed to be deleted via the terminal. However, I have searched the web and can't find the solution again.
Given that WD 1 and 2 are my backups of GT 1 and 2, then I now have a situation where I cannot access my primary or backup files for GT 2. Very impressive - not!
Can anbody remember the hidden file solution for the finder relaunch?
Can anybody help me get back my GT1 and 2 partitions (as they have the latest work on them)?

FIrewire & Thunder bolt drives are having issues with Mavericks, avoid same until a fix is issued if you can.
many are reporting same, there is a firewire fault and TB HD on external HD from LaCie (Seagate) and from WD especially.
    Technicians are looking into it.
Until there is resolution, consider setting up a USB ext. Time machine HD.
Until then consider confining Mavericks use with USB HD.
Ive tested a very long line of USB HD on Mavericks, all seem fine.
Recommend anyone DO NOT ATTACH any WD MyBook externals (firewire, thunderbolt or otherwise).
I dont have same to test, so I dont know if the problem is in the firmware on the SATA bridge or if its a problem with the WD software
