Logic Expres on a G4

I got an ibook G4 and i install a logic express on it, do you think that is to much software for the computer? i dont use a lot of tracks and effects, just for an littlehome studio.

3 moths ago I did a project with 35 audio tracks on my 1 GHz eMac without problems. So, as long as you don't use lots of heavy virtual instruments, a G4 is a fine computer to run Logic on. You should have a minimum of 512 MB RAM, though.
If I run into CPU limits, I freeze one or 2 "heavy" tracks (like piano), and CPU usage goes down again.

Save as project and select the option to copy audio files; that will create a folder containing all.
Now move the folder on your mac tower and open the project.

Is Logic Expres 9 really better than 8?

I've got LE8 because I still have a Power PC iMac. I am planning on getting a new computer in the next few weeks. Should I upgrade to LE 9? Does the new version fix bugs? Is it worth the extra $100 for the upgrade?

I think you can't say LE9 is better than LE8, because it depends on what you're doing with it.
For example, if you're editing recorded (live, not MIDI) music with it, then you're life will probably get better when using LE9, because of Flextime. Another big pro for me are the guitar/bass amp simulators and fx.
If you're not going to use the above mentioned features, than I don't think it's worth the investment for you.

Can you use logic express on a mac mini for recording

Can i use logic exprees on a mac mini for recording? Ive seen alot of 8,12, and 16 track recorders with a cd burner and it seems like a logical and more productive gues for me to buy a macmini for the same thing of recording and then I can uses logic express, a far better program for recording. can the mac mini handle the load of processing tracks and how much ram should I uses? thanks tim

Can logic express be used as a sequencer?

Looking into buying some music production software, so want to know if logic exprees can be used as a sequencer.

If you are really serious about music production in a professional way, don't bother with Logic Express and get Logic Pro.
I would dispute that, but of course YMMV

I'd say go for Express in the first instance, and upgrade later if there's something that you really need (final cost will be the same IIRC, so there's nothing lost!)

Using Logic Express 9.1.8 - Upgraded to Mavericks and now can't open Logic Express. Why please?

As soon as I try and open the LE application the icon starts bouncing up and down in the bottom tray and that's it. There is no more. I have to right click and force quit.
Became fed up and dragged it to the trash with the intention of reinstalling form original Logic Expres 9.0.0 disc. Couldn't install though as the installer crashes.
Don't know if this because of the "upgrade" to Mavericks but it a real coincidence.
Any help is appreciated.

Well, the first thing I would have done is launch Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions. It sounds like your problem may have been a permissions error and this may have resolved it. If that didn't help I would have next gone to my user>Libary>Preferences folder and deleted "com.apple.logic.express.plist."
Next step would have been to reboot the computer in Safe Mode or create a new user account to see if LE9 would launch.
Even though you trashed LE9 I would still suggest repairing permissions at this point. Also, do a Spotlight search for Logic Express to find any remaining LE files that you might want to delete . . . primarily preference files like the .plist mentioned above. Now restart your computer and try running the installer again.
Just an FYI, LE9 will indeed work in Mavericks. I used it briefly until I decided to get rid of Mavericks and go back to 10.8.5.

LOGIC EXPRESS 9-keyboard does not work in enviroment display

why can't i get the enviroment display keyboard to display notes in realtime on and off. it currently only shows ON and never goes off, unless i reclick on the the display keyboard ?

Import my old logic songs in Logic Express

One of the reasons I choose to buy a mac was because it gave Logic Express as an application. Until now I used to work with a special Logic version that came with an special Audio card, Maxis Isis studio. but this card can only work under Windows ME, that is no longer an option. I hoped Logic Express would easily import all my old work, so I could continue working on them.
But import does not work, Logic Expres 9 says I should use an older version of Logic (7.xx) to make my songs suitable for Logic 9. Is there anybody who can help me with the transfer, or has an old version of Logic for me? I need only to transform some 20 songs and can abandon the old stuff.

Hey what version of Logic was it that was bunled with that sound card?
I guess you can at least try to export audio parts of your songs as separate tracks using the old version of Logic that you have. I'd recommend exporting both dry and processed audio.
As for midi parts, you can export them also as midi files and as audio (for reference to be used for editing in LE9).

Apple loops won't index

I use Logic Expres 9.1.5.
So, I've made 160+ apple loops of drum parts. They are all playable in the Apple Loops utility when I open them.
However, for some nonsensical reason, no more than 31 of them will shop up in my loop browser when I re-index.
I've trashed the index file, re-indexed them by dragging them into the browser window - stil no more than 31.
What's even more bizarre is that when I only drag a few of them at a time, all 31 of the same files still re-index!

Well, I don’t know what may have caused that to happen, but it looks like you didn’t install the update properly. Were any of those applications running while installing it? Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:

Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.
I don’t know what to do about Thunderbird, but we may investigate what happened in Mail if you wish. Please describe what exactly do you observe in Mail. How many accounts do you see in Mail > Preferences > Accounts? How many should be there? Have you tried searching for the missing messages in Spotlight?

Deleting measure and moving region changes notes

I need to delete a measure and move the region from the right to fill in the gap. When I do that all the notes in the region to the right that I pulled over change. The rhythm is right, but the notes are wrong, either too high or too low. Very peculiar. Can anyone provide some insight? I am using Logic Expres 9 on Mountain Lion.

Yep, the Chord track can cause disasters like this. Unless you have decent backups (check the project folder) you may be out of luck.

FW 800/400 speed

I have a new 3.06 iMac that I am using Logic Expres 8 on. I need to know if I use a firewire 400 interface for mics (Presonus FP10)in the 400 port, will it slow down a FW800 hard drive that I will be using for recording on that is plugged into the 800 port. If it does, I won't wast the money for an FW800 HD.

The iMac has a Firewire 800 port and a Firewire 400 port. I would put the FW800 HD on the 800 port and the Presonus firewire mic interface would be plugged into the Firewire 400 port. What I have heard is that both the 800 and 400 ports on the iMac are on the same buss and that haveing somthing plugged into the 400 port would limit or reduce the speed of the 800 port to 400.

DVD video tutorials for Logic?

I'm posting this for a small established publisher of video tutorials for Logic Pro. They have produced courses for Logic 7, 8, and 9 in both DVD and digital download formats as well as Mac App Store apps for LP9. However now that LPX is available only from the Mac App Store, is it worth creating a DVD format version? Would anybody still be interested in a DVD?

The tutorials that come with V8 are only song files; not actual tutorials. I was looking for them too! There are also a couple of books from Apple pro training. Logic Pro 8 and Logic express 8 by David Nahmani. Also Logic Pro 8 Beyond the basics by David Dvorin. Both come with a DVD with 30 day version of expres and work files to go with the various topics described. I've got the Version 7 books and they are excellent. Version 8 won't be published until end of OCt and 1st week Nov in the US. In Australia, where I live, not until Feb 2008. {boring!] but they are available from US publishers. Upgrade to logic pro

I have Logic express currently.. I have noticed that Logic Pro is now only $199.99. I was just wondering if it is even cheaper to go from logic express to logic Pro??

Short answer=No
Express (and any upgrade paths) have been discontinued, so unless you can find a dealer with some in stock, the Appstore Logic Pro is the way forward.
Alternatively, purchasing Mainstage will give you access to download all the Jampack content, which would add to Expres's capabilities.
