They fixed " close project without saving ". I use this thing as a live performance tool ( in addition to recording ) so having the ability to actually close a song without many keypresses, and answering yes I really do want to close it, and am I sure ? ..... means I can use it live without looking like I'm typing a novel between songs.
Anyway, I assigned a keypress combo to that and it seems to work. Yeah ! Before this update it crashed Logic and popped up a tell apple about it box.
Sometime today I'll try and set that up so it can be triggered from a midi foot controller. Do I sound excited ? Well I am. Any other fixes I notice will make the day even better.

  • Logic Express 7: sudden reduction of the number of available instruments

I use Logic Express 7, and when I opened a new window and tried to make another song with instruments (garageband instruments) I realized that the variety/# of instruments available were suddenly reduced.
To explain more, it is fine until I choose a instrument( for example,"guitar"), but when I try to change the setting of that instrument("guitar"-->"classical guitar" to "electric guitar") there are now only about 2 or 3 settings. I had tons more (at least more than 30 for one instrument) just before I started another song.
I don't have MIDI and I only use instruments. I don't think I have to pay for the garageband instruments(not loops) because they come with Logic and I never had to pay although I've made more than 10 songs using many different instruments/settings.
I tried to reset the whole program, but it didn't give me back the variety. Has anybody experienced this? Please please let me know if you know a solution!! Or even a clue. I cannot create anything with only few settings for each instrument.
    Thank you all!

Try loading the EXS24 sampler to a track and have a look in the presets menu - there should be a Garageband instruments menu to select from - you might find what you're looking for there.

  • Some organs don't play in new Logic Express files after JamPacks installed

After loading only the instruments from the Symphony Orchestra and World Music GarageBand Jam Packs, I lost the ability to hear most of the organs available in Logic Express and all of the organs available in GarageBand after inserting them into Logic Express tracks. These same organ sounds still play in any Logic Express file set up prior to the installation of the JamPacks and they continue to play in GarageBand. Can an uninstall/reinstall of Logic Express 7.2.3 be a fix for this or is there an easier way to return the lost instruments to Logic Express?
1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Midisport 4x4, iControl

The loss of instrument sounds in Logic Express had nothing to do with the installation of GarageBand JamPacks. The midi channel setting in the Inspector box of the Arrange window in Logic Express needed to be set to channel 1 to get midi data from other than channel 1 to play some of the inserted CoreAudio instruments. I don't understand what's going on but now I'm able to get the instruments that would not play.

  • External MIDI device, can't get more than one sound, Logic Express 9 & Korg N364

Hi, I just beginning to use Logic. I trying to get Logic Express 9 to work with and use my Korg N364 keyboard/workstation as an external MIDI device. I can only get one sound at a time even though I create multiple tracks and assign different programs (or patches) to them.
Each time I do the following: I add a new external MIDI track, change the Channel to new number, put a check in the Program box ( as well as the Volume & Pan), and choose a instrument or patch from the Program drop down menu. What happens, though, it changes the sound to that instrument alright, but ALL THE PREVIOUS EXTERNAL MIDI TRACKS HAVE THE SAME SOUND NOW. I've followed the tutorials I found on the web and it seems like I'm doing everything correct in Logic. I hooked up the MIDI cables, added a new device and connected virtual cables in the MIDI studio window of my Mac OS, and have added the proper Korg multi instrument in the environment window of Logic and "un-slashed" the 16 channels. I get the sounds from the Korg no problem, it's just that I can only assign one sound and no more to the external MIDI tracks. Is there something in my Korg I need to do? Or am I missing something in Logic?

It's not Logic, it's how you have the Korg setup.
I'm not familiar with that model but it is a workstation so I'm pretty sure you can set it to a "Multi" mode.
Right now you are running it in single patch mode.
In single patch mode only one sound is available on a single MIDI channel, your Korg probably has a Multi or Combi mode, this is where multiple sounds can be played, each sound has to have it's own MIDI channel.
You will need to set this up on the Korg first.

  • MOTU driver no longer recognized by Logic Express 7

I installed a MOTU 828 mk3 Firewire audio interface to use with my Logic Express 7 several years ago and have used it consistently ever since. No big issues.
A few weeks ago a friend attempted to install a new audio driver unsuccessfully.
Now Logic won't recognize the MOTU driver in core audio even though I'm hooking up the interface exactly as I always have and have enabled the external audio port in Preferences. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the MOTU audio driver, and everything seems to have been reinstalled successfully.
All my software for OS X 10.8.1 is up-to-date as far as I know and I've exhausted every avenue of enabling the core audio that I can think of. At this point, I'm out of my depth in figuring out how to get the core audio to recognize the external driver. This is not a input channel issue, as the core audio is not even recognizing an external driver is hooked up to the driver. I've also tried a new firewire chord to no avail.
Any guidance on this frustrating issue would be very welcome.
    Many thanks,
    Seth

  • Logic Express 8 won't load saxophones

For the first time ever, I'm getting the dreaded error: "Logical end-of-file reached during read operation. Result code = -39". This error occurs whenever I (a) load a Logic project that has a software instrument track in it that is assigned to either the Tenor Sax.exs or Alto Sax.exs instruments OR (b) create a new software instrument track and then load either of those same saxophone sounds. The same saxophone instruments work fine when I play them in GarageBand, however. I've tried reinstalling Logic Express. I've also tried using known-good exs instruments from another computer. To no avail. What else can I try?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
checked in the Logic Pro forum - maybe you should turn off time machine while running logic.
Another solution: If you can identify the exact file causing the problem, maybe deleting and reinstalling it from the Garageband or Logic Install Disk can cure the thing.
    The samples are in library/application support/garageband/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Tenor Sax.
The EXS file is found in Sampler/Sampler Instrument.
Also, repair permissions. May not have to do anything with this but is always wise to do.

  • Is pre-fader metering in Logic Express possible?

    The manual says:
"Activation of Audio > Pre-Fader Metering ensures that the level displayed by the level meters is measured pre fader..."
But I don't have this option in Logic Express 7.2.3 - is this just me, or is it a manual misprint for a feature only available for Logic Pro?

  • Logic Express 7 Upgrade to Studio

    Hi
I'm a Logic Express 7 that wants to upgrade to Logic Pro (currently Studio). I went to an Apple store today and the genius told me this upgrade, which lists on the web for 299 is no longer available because a new Logic Pro is coming out and upgrading from 7 Express wont be possible with this version.
Are you aware of this? What should I do? Wait for a new Logic Pro/Studio to come out and buy it from scratch? I would hate to pay full price when I have paid for the Express already... the upgrade to Logic Studio from Express is still available online but at the same time I wouldn't want to upgrade to a program which will become 'old' in a few weeks..
    thanks
    J

Garbage advice anyway: this is from the Apple store, today.

Although we'd all be happy to see a new Logic, I guess.

  • How can I upgrade form Logic Express 9 to Logic pro?

I have Loci Express 9 and I want to update to Logic Pro 9 . the only way is to download the "full" version from the app store? SInce I see that the download is only 400Mb what about the 8 DVD that used to come with the previous version? If I download Logic Pro, will It be a new program or It will upgrade Logic Express?

You might be able to find a Logic Studio updgrade out there in the retail world but the only current and active "upgrade" available is to simply buy Logic Pro for $199 through the Mac App Store. The initial download is only about 400 megabytes but when it runs the first time, it downloads an additional 2 gigabytes or so of "required content." After that, you can go to the Help menu at any time and select "Download Additional Content." There's over 20 gigaytes of additional samples, loops and presets you can download at your leisure.
To answer the second part of your post, Logic Pro will coexist with Logic Express side by side, but there's really no reason to do that unless you just want to. There's nothing Express does that Pro doesn't do.

  • Hardware compressor and am not quite sure how to use it in logic express 9. Please help???

    Hi Ujjawal,
Use the Tab-order property of IR object.
In design mode, select the any command button, right click and select the property. you will find the window for "Tab-Order". It lists all the objects available in that dashboard. Here you can arrange the tab order..
    Hope it will help you.

  • Logic Express to Pro Tools for mixdown

    Hi!
Really sorry if this topic has been covered before, but all I can find on the various Logic boards I know of are ways of doing this in Logic Pro that aren't available in Express.
My band recorded an EP in Logic Express, which was great, but the engineer we'd like to use to mix it is Pro Tools-only. I know Pro Tools can load up AIF files, but the problem I have is that each track has different start and end points. If I gave him the individual tracks as is, we'd be spending all day synching them up.
I've thought of two ways I can prepare the files for him. Please let me know if they're ********.
    1) Setting the fader at unity (0) and bouncing each track individually to a 24 bit WAV or AIF file while the rest are muted.
    2) Manually cutting and pasting "fake" beginnings and endings of audio information to each track, then using the Glue tool to create a new, merged track. This way, I figure, each track should be in perfect synch with the rest.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks! Rufe.

    Hi,
    half ok,
bounce one by one to a folder (mute the other tracks) from the start to the finish, PCM 24 bit (44.1 if you going to make cd's), WAV, SDII or AIFF,
that way, all files start and finish in the same spot, Inside Protools you cut the silence parts and don't forget to place a dither plug-in in the master-fader.
    Regards,
    Jorge

  • Logic Express and  Garritan

I'm considering getting Logic Express 8. (Leaving the Win/pc world for my new iMac).
I have some Garritan strings I purchased and also some Giga Studio samples which I love and am accustomed to.
Does anyone know if I'll be able to use these with Logic Express 8?
    Thanks, Charlie

    Yes...
This copied from the Garritan Personal Orchestra:
"MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (for Kontakt Player & Sound Library)
Running Personal Orchestra is dependent on the speed of your computer. The faster the processor the better.
2 GB of free hard disk space.
    CD-ROM or DVD Drive.
Windows XP, Pentium 4 /Athlon 2.4 GHz or better is recommended.**
Mac OS 10.4 or higher (Leopard updates coming soon), G5 is minimum but may not load the full orchestra. To load a full orchestra a Mac Intelis recommended. **The Kontakt audio engine is designed to make use of the processing power of your computer's CPU. The powerful and complex algorithms of the Kontakt Player work best on modern and fast CPUs. Please also observe the systems requirements of your host application.
The Kontakt Player needs a soundcard for playing the sounds of Personal Orchestra. Standard DirectSound, MME or ASIO drivers required; Windows-compatible MIDI hardware if required.
A MIDI interface is required if you are using a MIDI keyboard, another MIDI controller or an external sequencer. The MIDI interface integrated in many sound cards can also be used.
To play the entire orchestra, we recommend 1 GB of RAM or more. There is a direct correlation between the number of instruments that can be loaded and the amount of available RAM. The more RAM available the better."

  • How can I add new software instruments to Logic Express?

I just got Logic Express 8 and was disappointed to see that there were not as many instruments available as I thought there were. Is there a way I can add additional software instruments to my library without having to spend 300 more dollars to get Logic Studio?

    Hi,
the cheapest way would be to buy a specific sample library from a music store and import them into the EXS24 Sampler. There are also some free downloadable ones, but i think they are not very satifactory.
Maybe a Jam Pack would help, also. Don't have one myself, so this is a shot in the dark.
However, i would encourage you to think about logic pro. You don't only get the sound library, but some very useful tools and plugins that Express doesn't contain. If i had the money, i would instantly go for it.

  • External keyboard only now and then work in Logic Express. Why?

I use a Roland JX 305 Synthgroove as keyboard with Logic Express. If I want to use it as Audio instrument, -using the sounds that are in Logic available - It only works now and then. I can play the keyboard, but after i changed a setting or switched shortly to another track, I have to start up Logic again, before I can get any music out of the keyboard. How come?

  • Syncing Fast Track Ultra (Slave) With Logic Express (Master)

I'm trying to get my fast track to slave with Logic Express, using Logic as the master. It doesn't appear to be sending out any messages. On my fast track I can get the midi 'in' light to blink but not the 'out.' in Logic, the transport bar on the bottom, says 'no midi' for both the in and the out. Does this sound like a Logic setup issue or a fast track ultra setup issue?

    Hi,
1st: You need to set your drum machine clock to external. That's important if you want to make Logic the master. Be aware any clock signal only is available when Logic is in play mode (naturally, but sometimes i forget even the most logical things).
2nd: In the Audio-Midi-Setup, the Fast Track should be displayed. Open the MIDI window (Window-> show MIDI window). Click on the "add device" icon. A new device will be added (new external device). Now open the inspector for this new device. You can name it, adjust all these things like MIDI clock send/receive and other gizmos and give it a nice icon. Now you must "connect" this new device with you Fast track by simpy dragging a line from it's outputs to the Fast track input and vice versa. The MIDI setup window will now represent your hardware's cabeling.
Once you have done this correctly, you should be able to correctly select the Drum machine in Logic.
