Logic Express 8.0, should I re install?

Hi everyone, old guy, old equipment, not very techie but figure out what I need.  I made the mistake of loading Logic on the desk top not in utilities.  Worked fine for seven years but now I think it's corrupted.  Now I keep having audio conflicts and processor spikes which interrupt recording and I am unable to get downloads that may fix the problem.  I have original disk which has the second version should I uninstall the original and install the second version in utilities?  All projects are on an external hard drive so aside from templates I shouldn't lose anything.
Thanks in advance

Okay. When Software Update tells you that it can't find an eligible Logic Express application, that typically means that either the Logic folder is not where it belongs or it has been renamed. Make sure that the Logic folder (or package) is in your Applications folder (not nested inside another folder such as "Music Apps") and is named "Logic Express," not "Logic Express 8.1" or whatever. If it's not named properly SU won't see it.
If you are experiencing problems even after disconnecting the interface there may still be a driver conflict if you never uninstalled the M-A 410 driver. Also, check audio preferences in Logic . . . are you using your built-in audio output when mixing? . . . have you increased your buffer size to allow for smoother playback while editing? Playback will be glitchy if you try editing with too low a buffer size. You can lower the buffer size after editing to record with lower latency.
It wouldn't hurt to try deleting your LE preference file if you're comfortable with doing that. Go to your user library, e.g. Geo > Library > Preferences and delete "com.apple.logic.express.plist." Launch Logic after deleting this and it will simply create a new one. This often helps resolve issues.
I'm curious . . . do you use any other music apps, like GarageBand for example? If so, do you have audio issues with them also?

  • Logic Express 9.1.2 update Wont Install on 9.0.1 version

I'm getting an error message when trying to update to 9.1.2. My current version of Logic Express is 9.0.1. Here is the error message displayed:
    Alert
An eligible Logic Express Version was not found in the Applications Folder.
This Update requires Logic Express version 9.0 or h*igher.

OK, I really dislike reinstalling when an app is working perfectly. But having trawled through user groups and Apples help files - it became evident that this was the next logical step. So I reinstalled version 9.0.0. It worked! It then accepted the upgrade to 9.1.2 without a hitch. So i guess this is the solution

  • Opening Garage Band files in Logic Express

I'm a school music teacher and have just started using Logic Express 7 to open kids' Garage Band files for tidying up and polishing.(Still a beginner with logic I'm afraid!) Have just purchased Logic Express 8 update, but haven't installed it because I heard that it won't open Garage Band 3 files. Is this true? If so, is it possible to have both 7 and 8 running independently on the computer? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The original release of LE8 had a bug which required a workaround to open GB files. The subsequent 8.0.1 update fixed that. After you install LE8, go to Software Update and install the 8.0.1 update and you will be fine.

    Hi Cris,
These might be Obvious and things you have already done... But...
Since doing the Upgrade... Have you Run Software Update... Repaired Permissions and Restarted...?
Also how did you Put Logic on... From the Original Install Discs...?
And, I'm not sure... But Logic Express maybe expecting to see iLife Installed...

  • Logic Express and Roland RD700

I'm new to Logic Express and have been doing quite a bit of online reading, trying to get things set up. I have a PowerBook G4, Logic Express 7, and a Roland RD-700 piano. The Roland keyboard has MIDI in/out and audio out which I've connected to my computer using a MOTU FastLane and M-Audio FireWire Solo respectively. I realize the keyboard can function as a controller (using the sounds that come with LE) or as a sound generator (using the internal sounds). What I'd like to do is to use Logic Express to compose, sequence, arrange, etc songs using the sounds from the keyboard.
Now, I know that I can change the sounds for each of my tracks by using the keyboard itself, but that gets kinda tedious - especially if I'm changing them often to see what works best. What I'd like to be able to do is to use Logic to change the keyboard's sounds... but how?!
I've done some online research, and here is the sum total of my knowledge:
    - I know that my keyboard is a multi-instrument and that it appears in my Logic Environment
    - Each multi-instrument has 16 sub-channels which share the 15 banks assigned to the MI instrument, and that each bank can have 128 preset names
    - I know that each of the sounds in the Roland RD-700 keyboard is described by a unique combination of MSB, LSB, and Program Change numbers
    - I've already copied from rolandus.com a list of all the sounds and their MSB, LSB, PC and I'm ready to paste it somewhere in Logic... but I'm not sure where/how.
And that's about all I've got. I have a feeling that the answer involves using Define Custom Bank Messages somehow, but I haven't found any clear instructions on how to do so.
If you can kindly reply, please try to be as specific/detailed as you can to help the beginning Logic user. Thanks so much!

For a start, this is the Logic Pro forum, not the Logic Express forum, you should have posted there instead.
All the stuff you are asking is in the manual. Read the sub-sections which speak about Multi instruments, particularly the section on the Multi Instrument Window (page 168).
You may, or may not, need to use Custom bank messages. It depends on whether the RD700's bank select scheme complies with the preset bank-select settings that are available in the Multi Instrument Window. (try the various roland presets in the bank select list first, and see if they address all the banks correctly)
Use the 'paste all names' command to paste the patch lists in the Multi Instrument Window, a bank at a time.

  • Deleting plug ins + Logic Express

Hi I have recently bought Logic 8 studio and dont need logic express 7. i cant seem to delete the entire program. does anyone know how to completely wipe Logic express 7 from the system drive?
also im using Toontrack's DFH Superior drum sample plug in. i dont need this anymore and would like to uninstall this too. how do you unistall audio plug ins on a mac?
    cheers

Josh since I've never used Logic I really can't say. I did however find this:
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Logic Express. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Logic Express and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Logic Express. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Logic Express. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
    Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Logic Express application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the "Logic Express.pkg" file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Logic Express.
Drag the Logic Express.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the Logic Express.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Logic Express" to the Trash.
Insert your Logic Express installation disc and install Logic Express.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.
It concerns removing Logic Express and reinstalling as a troubleshooting measure. However I would assume you could use it as a guide in just plain uninstalling.

  • HT3423 My iMac came with logic Express 8 installed, how do I get it to work on my mac book pro

My iMac came with Logic Express 8 Pre installed. How do I get it to work on my Mac Book Pro

Along with your OS and applications installation DVDs, you should have gotten an LE8 installation DVD along with its manual and serial numbers when you bought your iMac.
Your license allows you to install LE8 on two computers as long as they are your computers, you are the sole user, and you do not run Logic on both simultaneously. So dig out your installation DVD, install it on your MacBook Pro and enter your serial number and you will be good to go.

  • Logic Express 8 glitches with Mountain Lion - will I lose stuff if I re-install?

I use Logic Express 8, but it has been acting up since I upgraded my iMac from Leopard through Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. The sliders for navigating around my song projects are not working properly, which makes it difficult to zoom in on details. The program also crashes every time I use Flex-Time. Anyone know why this is and what I should do? I have a large amount of stored music projects on my Mac and, although they're backed up on Time Machine, I'm afraid that if I re-installed Logic Express 8 I might lose all this material and have nightmares getting it back.

  • Is Logic Express 7 left when Logic Express 8 is installed?

My question is: I have Logic Express 7 and I want to buy Logic Express 8 now. Nobody in Sweden can answer me if Logic Express 7 is still left in my computer, when after I have installed Logic Express 8. I want to work with old projects in LE 7, before I have learned the new LE 8 completely. Can someone tell how to do: One person in a Macstore have told me that I must change name on the folder of LE 7, but I am suspicious. Others tells me that LE 7 is left and I dont need to do anthing and others tell me that LE 7 disappears.
So what is the real truth? Anyone who really KNOWS and not only believe?
    Regards Marie

I just upgraded to LE8 from 7 and I found LE7 still in my apps. l thought that to be strange but after you mentioned learning LE8 before losing LE7, I feel better. Now my next question is should LE7 still be in my apps after the I upgrade to LE8 cause i still se it and it opens up.

  • Cannot Install Logic Express 9.0.1 Update

I tried to install the 9.0.1 update but I keep getting a message "An eligible Logic Express Version was not found in the Applications Folder. This Update requires Logic Express version 9.0." when I try to install it.
I have a copy of Logic 9 Express that I bought from the Apple Store & there is a copy in the Applications folder that I installed as a default location.
This was an upgrade from Logic 7. I may have shortened the name to "Logic Express" & I also have the copy of Logic 7 still in my Application Folder.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is your version 9.0 registered and functioning properly? If so, I see no reason why the update installer does not recognize it . . . as long as you installed the original application to the default Applications folder and did not move it later, and did not rename the file. Also, be sure you have not moved or renamed any support files (Library/Application Support/Logic, etc.).
Having both LE7 and LE9 in your Applications folder should be okay. I have "Logic Express 8" and "Logic Express" in mine ("Logic Express" being version 9) and I was able to update to 9.0.1.
Unless somebody else has a solution, you might try reinstalling LE9 and then the 9.0.1 update again.

  • Logic Express 9 will not install.

    Hi all,
I just bought a Macbook Pro 17" with Logic Express 9 and the program will not install and comes up with with "Errors where detected and installation has stopped. Contact the manufacture." It would get through to about 20 - 30% when it fails.
I have updated my mac with all the latest updates and I have only installed Adobe CS3 Master collection. CS3 did not install with succsses either and Encore failed to install. To be honest CS3 I have found never installs like it should so that does not seem out of the norm (Although it should be Adobe).

    Hi There.
Did you manage to get this sorted? I have just bought a brand new Mac myself and cannot install Logic Express 8!
I have limited connectivity to the internet and don't know what to do.
If yo sorted the problem, would be great to know how you did it!
    Cheers

  • Do I have to keep Logic Express installed after I upgrade to Logic Pro?

Would like to delet Logic Express to make space but don't kow if that will make Logic Pro/Studio inoperable.
Got Studio through upgrade form Express.

    Nope.
You SHOULD still be able to run both!
One trick you could try before installing Logic X, is to "Get Info" on the Logic Express Icon, and LOCK it.
This way, in case the new Logic X DOES want to overwrite Logic Express, it won't be able to.

  • Re-installing Logic Express

    Hi
I'm having persistant audio problems with both my Focusrite Saffire and Emagic EMI 6/2 interfaces (clicks, dropouts etc) and I haven't been able to root out the cause of the problem. I'm now considering doing an erase and re-install of OS X Tiger and all of my software to see if that makes a difference. Just wondering what the implications are for re-installing LE 7.2? I originally upgraded from Logic Audio 6 (Big Box version) to Logic 7.0 and I needed to have my XS Key connected. Is this still the case and do I have to start from Logic 6 again or can I just install LE 7.2, enter my serial number and go? Also, do I have to re-register the software with Apple? Any hints and tips gratefully received as I've never done this before and I'm a bit nervous about it!
iBook G4;   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Logic Express 7.2.1/768Mb RAM

    Hey Dewi,
First try to see if your HD is getting full.
Are you recording audio to the internal HD?
The internal drive is a 5400rpm, for audio
you should have a 7200rpm (external firewire or USB2),
remember that as your machine isn't that powerfull you
    should also add more ram.
And give a a peak at the I/O buffer size, you probably recording at 32 or 64, if yes, try to change it to a value that don't bring too much latency and clean those clicks, 128 or 256, that should do the trick.
If all this fails, check for new drivers, in your case I wouldn't re-install the system if everything else is fine.
When did this happend, have you installed any programs, demos or AU plug-ins?
About re-register the program again, I don't think it's necessary as you already did it, and probably haven't upgrade since then.
    regards,
    Jorge

  • Installing Logic Express from Logic Studio Package

Does any user, or Apple, know if it's possible to performa a Logic Express installation from my Logic Studio package, i.e. not the whole Studio installation, but the limited version?
    TIA,
    -gg

In the installer simply untick everything you can untick and you should be able to do a "skeleton" install of about 7.5 GB. It'll still be Logic Pro though, not express. But installing the app only is not possible, some content +cannot be deselected+ in the installer.

    Hi there!
Does anybody know what happens if I install Logic Pro from the Mac App Store while Logic Express is already installed? Will this drag me derectly into dependency **** or can the two coexist?

    Hi
It should work fine, with the exception that opening projects via the Finder may open Express rather than Pro (easily fixed).
